I just bought my 99 F250 V10 today of Facebook market place and get home with it and wouldn't ya know it started loping. Found this video, ran back outside and sure enough that PCV elbow was dry rotted. Thank you so much for this video you boosted my confidence and saved me a visit with the stealership! Cheers to you sir!

Thanks so much for this video. We have a 2000 F250 V10 that has had this issue for the last couple of years. We were dreading taking it in for fear of the possibility of a $2000.00 repair bill. My husband checked this out and sure enough the part was cracked. He went to the ford dealer for the part, been discontinued. They told him to try NAPA. He went there and they had the part (PCV end assembly 630-1671) in stock. $12.71 fixed the truck. Thanks again!

I can’t believe after all this time owing this does E350 super duty RV. And going through mechanic after mechanic performing all kinds of leak down test and vacuumed test. It was the elbow you described under my throttlebody. Buried way under. Thank you thank you so much. Just fixed it. Never sounded so good. Heck of a lot of work to get to and can now see why they kept missing it. You saved me so much money

I've been a Chevy man for 30 years. 3 months ago I found a 2001 F250 Super Duty XLT V10 4X4 with 136K miles for a great price that I couldn't pass up. I have a lot to learn about Fords. When I replaced the spark plugs I couldn't believe some one had put Autolite plugs in it and they were gaped at half of what they shoulda been. I installed Motorcraft plugs. Motor runs much better now. I also replaced the rear diff fluid...It was way past it's fluid change interval. I am going to tackle changing the front diff fluid very soon. Over all I like this Ford. That V10 shore has a ton power! I've had to rust proof the under carriage also. On a quiet night you can hear Ford trucks rusting ya know. lol. Great video sir, good information, I will check mine today.

My 2000 F250 V10 just blew out another spark plug for #2. I put a helicoil, new plug and coil in and it wouldn't run. Came inside to research it and saw your video! When the plug blew out it knocked the hose off . I never would have seen that connection back in their. Saved me about 250$ and a lot of time. Awesome!!

I used to sell autoparts years ago. I recognize that hose. Go to the parts store and ask for a waterpump bypass hose for a 1976 f150, 302 engine. It will be the exact hose he used. Gates hose number 20662

Taped it up with electrical tape and boom. She fires up and stay lit. Just need to replace that hose. You da man.

This was it!!! For two years I’ve worked on a farm and we have a F-450 V10 service truck. Thing ran like poop. It is our main truck and it was just getting worse over the years and no one could figure it out. This video helped a ton! I checked the hose and it had a hole. So I did some farm hackery and she runs like a top again.

I just subscribed and thank you for the video. I have 1999 F250 V10 SUPER DUTY that I purchased just before 9/11. I must admit that V10 has so many anomalies and quirks and not being a ford mechanic causes me many hours of internet, parts stores and other nomadic avenues of research. Because of people like you who post worthwhile and very helpful videos, I have managed to repair most issues myself. I will be changing my oil today 20MAY18 and will conduct a check of that commonly afflicted area as preventive maintenance. Thank you again Sir.

Glad you got your truck fixed. Its amazing what a vacuum leak will do on these newer vehicles. It can mess with so many things. On the old ones it might miss a little but that was about it...unless it was a huge leak.....then you knew from all the hissing going on. I had the same thing happen to me on a ford escape. Elbow on the pcv valve split right in the bend. Problem was that it was at the back of the engine between the engine and firewall. I just about gave up on that one...LOL

I was going to change my spark plugs on my E350 van to solve this problem, which would have been a nightmare! But I saw your video while looking on youtube for instructions on how to remove the spark plugs. I took off the air cleaner, removed the accelerator/cruise control cable bracket and found that elbow. Pulled it off, and sure enough, it was cracked! You saved the day!! Only took me about 10 minutes!

I've been chasing issues with running rough on my 2000 excursion V10. In replacing coils, I had seen the pcv hose was very dry rotted. Got a new pcv valve from O'Reilly along with a 11/32 crankcase hose. So far seems to be a good roadside fix til I can get the actual part from the dealer
Difficult part is 99/00 has a heated pcv valve

I was having the same idling problem. I changed the fuel filter. I cleaned the air sensors. I checked and all the vacuum lines were hooked up. Nothing seemed wrong. I was about to make an appointment to take it to the mechanic when I saw your video. I couldn't feel anything amiss, but just to be sure I sprayed a small amount of starting fluid in that area. The engine immediately revved up. I knew I had found the problem. I found a preformed water hose at the parts shop and my V10 is back on the road. Thanks for the advice.

Very good video doingitcheap as a technician here in Canada this is a very common fault and easy to fix.
For the most part you can almost hear the leak if it's bad enough or sweep over the engine with a stethoscope. As far as diagnosing goes this is a very easy find intakes are another issue as well, using the short&long term fuel trims can also point in the direction of what it could be.

Just bought a 1999 F350 that is doing what you described. The guy couldn't figure it out and I haven't really had to much time to spend on looking at it. This gives me something to look at and see if it was a well spent $900.

Finally took the time to look my 900 dollar SRW F350 Superduty V10 Triton over and this was not the problem. It was an easy fix however, the guy replaced the battery cable ends and he didn't tighten the 2 bolts that holds the positive cable into the new battery end. I never would have guessed that that would have made the truck miss so bad at idle but smoothed out at higher RPMS. Just thought I would share my fix to give someone else the idea to check their battery connections.

Hello I just wanted to say thank you so much for your video as it was the exact problem I was having. I had to make shift it for now I just took it strait out and hooked a different hose to it and she is working great. I might even get around to buying a new part for it but for now it is working. Next I will replace the transmission oil and hope that cures it from jumping back into 2nd gear as I drive but lately that is not happing even though it is warmer. Then if that is good I will replace the rotors and I might even have a truck my wife would drive again and I can tow our trailer. Well if you ever are up in BC you can stop by we have lots of room.

Hey, thanks for putting this up, I'm just about to buy a used V10 and am rooting around for problem fixes, cause I don't know the complete history of this vehicle. I'm sure this info will come in handy.

I was pretty scared cuz I thought it could be the spark plug and I've heard that those V10 have a huge default with their spark plug, so it make me a little less worried

That's way to fancy for me. I like my old 38 Plymouth motor. It looks like s box with six spark plugs sticking out the top. Happy Birthday my friend and many more.

Boy I sure miss my old 77 Chevy Stepside. Like you said, nothing under the hood except an engine and radiator. Hell, you could almost stand inside the engine compartment!

I had the same problem with my 2001 Ford ranger 4.0 SOHC. The "check engine " light would come on and it ran like crap. Well it took about 3 hours to find. I had the codes pulled on it for free at Autozone. And every time I did, it said something different was wrong. O2 sensors, EGR, MAS. Well it turns out, after running down every vacuum line on the engine, I found it. An AC hose was crossed over that thin hose you are talking about and it wore a hole in it. It could not be seen unless you lifted the AC hose. I replaced it with a piece of heater hose. Problem solved. Vacuum leaks can drive you nuts. Especially if they reseal themselves when you hit a bump and leave you with the "check engine" light on.

This was the fix for my ‘01 e350.
The connection into the intake was almost impossible to get at but the elbow had 2 holes in it and now it runs smooth as silk

Excellent video. For my information, you told us the make and model, but not the year, a common oversight on a lot of vids I watch. Just wondering what the fuel trims were like. And thanks for the upbeat signoff. My first wife used to have the same one. Have a good day and a better tomorrow! RIP Sue. 1956-2004 I still love you sweetie.

I got a '02 E350 with the V10 (210k miles) and it's missing a couple of beats at idle but runs fine otherwise.
A bit of injector cleaner made it better but I'm going to check this.
    Thx.
