WOW, I just watched the 1st Video on engine breakdown, I left A 5* Rating So Informative , recommended not just for Rv’s . But I’m shopping and want to try to find the best Videos, that I can Walk along with So if / when this happens . My self looking at a very nice Jayco with the 2007 V10. 305. In a Ford 450 body 31.000 miles . I heard from the beginning get the RV Inspected , yes it will cost . Maybe up to $500.00 . I’ve already had one sold used dealer saying inspection? As if to say are’s go to fast for that I will go back to see their TRACK RECORD ! I’m retired disabled Vet So I don’t want the BIG SURPRISE , at lest not lied to , broke down ,when in fact the Dealer Knew something was Wrong . This is Part #2 it is another 5* VIDEO. Full of information and advice . Pictures of the rebuild and How People should get a Warranty. Very Smart hope you enjoy as I have . Happy Trials GOD Bless.
I was multitasking while watching the beginning of this video... missed the caption that it was the OLD engine running, thought it was a diesel.. then read it’s a Triton V10 (like my coach). I had to rewind... thanks for sharing.
Glad it’s all fixed and you are on your way. Just wanted to tell you about a mechanic who did a video on the Ford V10. His channel is just his name Steve Cox and the YT title is Are Ford V10 Engines Trash? That’s a come on title because although it’s a kind of rough video, he tells you why it’s still a good motor other than mileage. His engine has over 350,000 miles on it. It’s like anything else, maintain it properly and you will be ok.I think you will find his discussion interesting. Happy New Year too!
I’m glad to see you got your rig repaired. It’s nice to see a shop like this take great pride in what they do. And I must say they gave you a great price.
Thank you for showing all the pictures of the breakdown and re-build. Fascinating stuff for us pilot chair motor heads! Kudos to the shop knowing they could remove the engine out the front of the rig by dis-assembling it. I think that's something your previous repair shops had no idea could be done. BTW- based on your reviews on the Letric e-bikes, we purchased 2 and had them delivered to the dealership in Mesa that is preparing our 5ver. We pick up Jan 6th - see you on the road!
Thanks for watching! The teardown and rebuild process is pretty neat to see and something the average person is never exposed to. Let us know what you think of the Lectric eBikes. We think you'll love them. Merry Christmas!
I highly recommend having an injector cleaning performed. It’s less than $100 and if one of the injectors failed like that, another could be right behind it. I’m a Mercedes master tech and we used to share a shop with a Ford dealer. We used the Ford chemicals to do injector cleanings on Mercedes. Very good stuff. It always made a noticeable difference on cars that had some age or mileage on them.
Steve St. martin Motorcraft Power Flush Injector Fluid. You use it with a special pressurized canister and the vehicle runs off of it instead of using the gasoline from the fuel tank.
Steve St. martin It is definitely not something you can do yourself. Adding it to the tank would not really accomplish anything. It is run at 100% solution directly into the fuel rail. You can very likely find an independent auto repair shop that can do it for you. Especially shops that sell BG or Wynns products.
That was nice of them to take pictures as they went along. I bet it gives peace of mind seeing the new parts and resurfacing. I will definitively use them if needed. The cost was much cheaper than your other quotes too.
They rebuild the Ford V10 6.8 engine all the time. Every single time they rebuild a Triton 6.8. V10 it’s always the same expression, “why’d anyone want to to rebuild a engine with a reputation like that one” Is the answer my friends, that actually a V10 engine still blows us away, with two extra cylinder and better gasoline mileage than a square body Chevy, Ford, Dodge. Few would really care. Truth is that they got a Triton V10 in a lot of vehicles that are already on a list of vehicles that would naturally always have an engine replacement. Which makes sense? Or is it because emissions laws prevent an upgrade to a more excepted engine.
Excellent Video! I also have a v10 ford engine (2015) and so far it’s running well (32K Miles). I live in AZ so good to know this shop in Glendale can rebuild mine as well.
That's good news for you , I know 6K unexpected is little pain, but now your good to go. I will keep the engine builders in mind and make sure my injectors are clean. Thanks for the update and info.
I am glad you got your motor all rebuilt. It looks like they did a great job. I personally love Ford. We have a diesel pusher, but we tow a Lincoln MKX. I hope you have safe and happy travels.
Hi i have a 2015 Triton V10 having serging problems. My guy is a having a problem finding the cause. After a very long time and after watching your video I called Engine Builders in Glendale, Az and spoke to someone who without hesitation said he would talk to my shop and see if they can put their heads together and get me back on the road. Thanks for sharing your video. We have a 2015 Thor ACE. Had to replace the motor and a little frustrated now but love it anyway.
@@LyfUninterrupted Had to reprogram the computer as it wouldn't recognise the new engine. Back on the road tomorrow. Not sure if my guy called Engine Builders or not but he said he might because he has worked on Fords for 35 years and this one had him stumped...Thanks again.....
Saw your other vid and came here to see results. Good to hear you didnt get taken. I am very fluent in these v10s after the first one i had sounded lile it had an upper end valve issue. I took it to the dealer and was told it needed an engine, 10k and i said no way. Took it home and started looking around, noticed the back lower exhaust manifold bolt broke off. It is very common on ford and gm engines. Replaced the bolt and manifold gasket for under $50. It was obvious to me the dealer never looked at the engine. Fyi yes it also caused several codes that mimicked a lower rod knock or head valve train issue. But simple visual inspection and a mechanics stethoscope found the culprit in under 15 minutes. These v10s will go 300k no issue and most place dont diagnose them properly.
Thanks Tim. as a former aircraft mechanic, I am truly flabbergasted at the lack of quality troubleshooting. Seems like most shops are only interested in removing and replacing parts without understanding cause and effect.
Well, all you wanted for Christmas was a brand new engine! Glad it got it fixed. Merry Christmas and May your New Year be relaxing, safe and enjoyable.
Thanks for the video. V10 are great engines we love ours. Just turned 200,000 on the baby. They do have their issues but all engines do. Nice to know there are good shops out there.
@@davidmckibbin4440 No. Starter is still running. My engine only has 35,000 miles on it. But last October I had the dealer pull the V10 out of my RV (E450 Cab) and install new stainless exhaust manifold studs and nuts, new valve seals, new rear main engine seal and new spark plugs. Ford Tough...Ha!
My old southwind has 2nd gen v10 and has 52kmi. Ive put 30k of those miles on it. I run mobil 1 5-30 and motorcraft filters. I do oil and filter about every 1500miles. Did plugs and coil packs a few years ago. Going to have a look at the injectors after watching your vid. Knock on wood my V10 still runs smooth as silk. Also I dont like to rev it high like some people do with their v10s. Glad you got your rig sorted. We will be heading to AZ in feb.
Thanks! I’ve since purchased all new fuel injectors. Sounds like you take great care of your engine. I changed the oil in the old engine every 3000 miles or so. Sometimes went a bit over that due to logistics.
Glad your R.V. is back and going. I was going to buy class A motor home but it was an 88 model with 58,000 miles on it. I ran from the old girl as she sat most of it life. Did not want to buy what maybe trouble.
So glad to know you got it fixed, as they say stuff does happen to the nicest people. Being an GM Certified World Class Technician for 48 years you become a customer when your away from your tools. Look at it this way it’s fixed and if something happens you have someone to blame.Put it behind you chalk it up to life lessons and pour a cold one or several 🍺🍺🍺👍🇺🇸
Very good price, happy for you. The piston examined was not sealing at all, the black color between the rings tells the story, was like that for a while.
You guys are providing great information. I do not have an RV yet, but I watched this whole video as if I knew what was happening...lol. Still, I will store those links in my information file. Thanks for the follow-up.
That was a very informative video. So glad it got done well and correctly. An aded plus was that you were able to save a lot from the first quotes. Now we can look forward to seeing you back out on the road again.
Hello Brian. Wanted to share with you something we had in common. I work for FedEx, self-employed. So my step van for delivering packages which is just like a ups truck, had engine issues. We buy lots of FedEx trucks with Ford engine in them. It was like you said, very frustrating that they could not work on them because of its size and it been a commercial vehicle. OMG I was so frustrated with them. My attitude was if your going to sell these Ford engines in our FedEx truck and Rv's and not provide services, then get out of the business. LOL I had like yourself had to take my truck to a trucking company. Which to me is very funny, because they had the equipment to work on them but had to go to Ford to get the parts. Talk about been _______ fill in the blank. Enjoy your travels and thank you for your honesty. It's greatly appreciated. You are ahead of my wife and I for now. But we are going to follow in your foot steps one day soon. I might even caravan with my daughter. She loves the idea. Talk to you soon. And a big Thank you for responding back. I was impress by that
Hey me and my wife have the same v10 and same 2008 . The engine has real issues and alot of other shops wanted to charge me over 20k . I found your video . Also subscribed!! Would you recommend the engine builders after having it for over a year? . I set up an appointment to drop ot off with them on Monday. I also told them it's because of your video that I called them . Thank you !!!
Hi Jesse. Sorry to hear about the engine in your coach. Curious to know what problems it’s having. So far so good with the engine in our coach. The Engine Builders certainly know what they are doing.
@@LyfUninterrupted I just bought this coach. I have less then 1000 miles on it. Skyler (my wife) and I bought it to be able to start having Family adventures with our 2.5 year old and probably our parents from time to time. It was said to of had a full inspection on every part. I found out that is not a real thing. It was not a huge deal because I am a trained master tech and it has been fun fixing everything on it and creating new systems to really make the Coach ours. I noticed very soon after i bought it that it has a very slight misfire so i decided to do the spark plugs. I took the plugs out and they were the worst plugs I have seen in all of my years. Most of them were missing parts and I know that means they were bouncing around in the engine. I brought it to a shop because, yes, I absolutely could rebuild and change an engine. I don't have the equipment to change an RV engine at my house . They quote me somewhere north of 20k. I found your video and called them right away. They are getting me in on Monday and they were way more fair. (very close to your quote in vid) I told them I would like to do any upgrade that they recommend like the high volume oil pump to keep this engine bullet proof. I am a Chevy guy myself but most RVs are on the f53 chassis. That being said this is not a failure of the engine this is lack of preventive maintenance. I also saw that you guys ride SXS . We have a great group of guys and girls that we ride and camp with. If you ever find yourself out here we should ride. I also have a 4 car garage and lots of tools if you guys ever need to tackle some smaller jobs but need more then you carry with you on the road . I am very thankful for your video because it changed my nightmare RV into something I can live with and learn from.
That was a great price. You are right. Could happen to any manufacturer. Especially in this case as they often share injectors. From seeing Picts I’d agree that was the problem. Way too much fuel in there. Washed away all the oil. Lack of oil caused the piston to overheat. Glad you are back on the road.
We too are full timers and considered Class A vs travel trailer. We decided on travel trailer just because of these potential problems. We heard that most Ford dealers will not do service on RVs and many commercial vehicle mechanics will not service RVs. Any Dodge Ram dealer can service my tow vehicle while we stay in our travel trailer in a local RV park. As it turned out we parked our TT full time in a Seniors RV park near South Padre Island and bought a smaller hybrid camper for going North in the summers. Just so much easier to tow the little camper. We have A lot of Class As permanently parked in our seniors RV park that have not moved in years. One is a Provost. All that investment in drive train sitting unused. And we had more flexibility in floor plans with a travel trailer. Perhaps if we had a Class A we would have not needed to get the smaller hybrid camper. We learn as we go along. Now I bought a Harley so we wish we had a small toy hauler.
Wow and I thought we had problems! We own a 2009 Chrysler town and country which we have a lifetime warranty on. We have had to replace the engine 3x’s and the transmission 2x’s . That warranty saved my husband’s life. Because I would have driven it off the nearest peer. What a lemon 🍋. Count your blessings it only been 1x🎊🥳🎉
My son is a Ford senior tech and had told me to look out for the nodular engines 4.6,5.4,6.8 especially if they are under a load. 50k it's not unreasonable to see injectors and coil packs failing ( rv may be less). Light load there is not as much problem. He said to run an injection cleaner ( professional system) and to get coil packs checked as they detriate ( or better yet just replace all at same time) . Just saying preventative maintenance is a good thing.
Wow, Brian you really held it together. Brave of you both to venture out and do this together. I bet going out and doing this together has created an even closer bond to each other. Thanks for sharing, '
Congratulations on your patience & success ! If it were my engine, my videos, upon news of my Engine blowing out w/be laced w/so much profanity, I reckon they'd kick me off the internet ! LOL

@@LyfUninterrupted so now that it has been sometime wanted to get your thoughts. I have a 2007 sightseer that is Tuscan az and thinking about what I should do.
Glad you got it fixed. That’s not a bad price with all the labor. Warranty’s are always a crap shoot I’ve always looked at them as prepaid repairs and never came out ahead in my personal experience. Didn’t know those were OHC motors. Thanks for sharing. Merry Christmas
Looking at the rings gap and oil burn marks the people who had the RV before you used it for long periods of idle and cheap oil filters and lack of oil changes. The top of the piston is the indication oil was burned in the cylinder. Fuel injector leak would be washing the piston down. The radiator would cost the engine to overheat in one part of the engine. And show normal operation.
Thanks for the info. The previous owner gave me the entire repair and maintenance history as well as all paperwork/receipts. He had the oil changed at a Ford dealership or RV shop every 3000 miles. At some point the #2 compression ring apparently seized which may have allowed oil into the cylinder? The spark plug electrodes were melted as well, but the check engine light never came on nor did it throw a code.
@@LyfUninterrupted Super! I use that same brand in my truck, a 1996 Dodge Dakota with a 318 cu. in. in it and I also add a little bit to my fuel in my 2006 Suzuki Boulevard. Good stuff. Glad your engine is running well too. That is sure a testament to The Engine Builders!
Hi there! Glad you were able to get the engine rebuilt! I guess the surprising thing is that one of the arguments for a gasser are that they can be serviced just about anywhere. Well....true.....the engine is the same as what is in the pick ups. But, not all ford dealers have the lift capability for a large commercial vehicle. Thank you for sharing your experiences with this issue!
@@LyfUninterrupted it would be interesting to talk to one of the mechanics 'off the record' and find out the real reason why they don't want to touch them 🕵️
Great video. Hard to believe you only paid what you paid. That's a huge job. I'm have problems with my 6.8L V10 with oil in the coolant. Replaced radiator and oil cooler and now trying to get all the sludge out of the cooling system. Wish me luck. I won't put another engine it this truck however. Too old. LOL
Sorry to hear this. What is the condition of the block and heads? Coolant leaking into oil or vise versa typically means an issue with head gasket(s) or a cracked water jacket. Perhaps it was just a cracked oil cooler in your case?
Good info. I replied to the first v10 problem video. Mine is being replaced with an engine from Jasper. I'm waiting for it to come in. Luckily I am able to stay in the rv while waiting for it. '16 Bounder with 33,069 miles on it. $18,000 to r&r the engine with intake and oil cooler. No warranty on mine so it is painful. Distressing how hard it was to find a place to do the work. I went with gas thinking finding a place to work on it would be easy. No so. Caveat Emptor!
Sounds like it's awfully pricey compared at least to the video we just saw but I expect half of the price is engine alone or possibly even more than half idk but big things cost big bucks to repair or replace so it is what it is sorry to hear that it's a bad hit for real
We went through the exact same thing here in Florida. Ford just wanted to stick it to us, so I had the engine removed, rebuilt at a local engine shop re-installed and CRAP...! the rebuilt motor is now knocking like hell 15,000 miles later. i'm ordering a re-manufactured long block with a 5 year warranty and having the work done here at my home and selling the damn thing.
Hi Steven. that’s a hard knock for sure. Sorry to hear that your still having issues with the engine. The rebuilt engine in ours is still purring along with over 20,000 miles on it so far.
Nice Video, just found your channel and have watched a couple of your videos and appreciate how you handled this entire event. We have had to pretty much empty our emergency fund in 2019 as well but kind of like you said, it is just part of the journey and we still love the full time rv lifestyle. Look forward to your live stream you mentioned in one of your videos so we subscribed and clicked that bell so hopefully we will be notified and get to watch it live. Good Luck and Safe Travels

That is a great price glad your motorhome is fixed i felt bad for you and I know that crappy sunk feeling when your vehicle breaks down and you know it is a big bill i am planning a trip to Palm Springs in may after seeing what you went through i am going to get my rig fully checked out before i make the long journey south but I can't wait to go i am going to the motorcaoch country club rv resort looks like one of the best rv sites i ever seen
We were very happy to see y’all recover from the engine issue, and still go back to what you wanted out of this! Why would someone wish someone else would switch to a diesel? It is NOT YOUR CHOICE-IT IS THEIRS! Just come out and say it "You made a bad choice because I would choose a diesel!
We've all been there with engine problems, glad to hear all is well. IMHO the rationale for getting a gas V10 engine over diesel was reasonable. I had V10 in a 98 Ram 3500 and was happy with it. I'm not sure the extra cost of diesel maintenance, fuel and acquisition cost is worth the extra torque and longevity. Also, great price on the rebuild.
Make sure your ECU is okay. I lost an engine this way. Two of the injectors were putting out too much fuel. Injectors were fine but there were two bad MOSFETs, which control the pulse width. Killed my engine. I didn't realize there was a problem until I got the new engine in and connected my laptop with the dealer software on it and it saw some bad numbers on those two cylinders. Got a new ECU and had it programmed properly and it's been running beautifully ever since. I would have destroyed the new engine if I didn't happen to check the engine with that dealer software.
@@LyfUninterrupted the vehicle I mentioned is a BMW. It's pretty easy to find online. It should be out there for a Ford, I would imagine. Even if you can find someone who knows how to code Ford engine computers. Have them take a look at it.
Never seen anything like that, but glad you got a good deal on a new motor. I guess it would be wise to use a probe camera to look at each cylinder if this should happen to anyone. Might be able to catch the problem early and save lots of $$$$.
You did very well grasshopper a excellent shop. Very fair priced good parts that means a lot. I worked in a diesel and gas repair shop most of my life. I'm older fella now I have a motorcoach with the v10 . When I 1st saw the piston I said it ran hot. Dumping too much fuel in their is just bad luck. And I'm real sorry for your experience specially just getting on the road. Believe me or not Diesel just as much Trouble. If is bolted together ill break Somehow. I'm going to assume you gonna keep it seeng got a fair price on Your repair. You'll probably have a few bugs but nothing major those guys did a good job. V10 Ben around it's pretty solid. They all break diesel lot more expensive. 6000 might get you started on a diesel.
Yeah, it definitely got hot. The spark plug electrodes were melted too. A lot of people bash the Triton V10, but how many other engines could make a 2000 mile journey with that sort of internal problem?? Thanks for the words of encouragement! Merry Christmas!
Great video showing the rebuilt process. I was hoping to find a video or two today offering a FIX as in preventive fix for the famous Ford V10 engines in the late 90's through 2006's I believe that are famous for throwing sparkplugs and leading to very expensive repairs and even rebuilding engines. So still looking. Every single RV class B & B+ I've been looking at seem to have favored the Ford V10 engine. To be fair I haven't seen any reports of any RV user with low or high odometer readings having had an issue. Only on line scare reporting. I did read that if you are worried to change your plugs more frequently than recommended. And also the brand of spark plugs may be more favorable than others. They also do sell kits from 150 to 300 even higher that repairs sparkplug damage to these Fords. But that's only after the damage occurs. Right...anyway I thought I wanted Ford over Ram and Ram over Chevy and siince I've been searching and twice now lost the RV that fit me to a T I'm less picky. Been looking for a year now. And we live in rural MT and it's 100 miles to nearest airport of fly out size and 200 to Spokanes airport. So part of our problem is traveling in time to one before it sells out from under. That includes putting down down payments that are ignored if seller chooses to sell under us anyway whch has happened by dealers and owners alike now. There are some decent sellers however out there just more patitence to find and be first in line so to speak. Thanks for this video it was definitely educational. I'm a solo female camper who's hubby of now 50 years is not into camping but he's fine with me going. That makes us both happy...me a happy camper not having to drag along an unhappy camper. Works for us and as you know lving a full time RV life there are a lot of solo females of all ages out there who have similar partners as well as just single ladies who enjoy the outdoor and scenic trips. Off to do more searching on this subject.
All vehicle brands have issues. When I was young my dad told me "Chevy makes a Corvette and a Chevette and that shows the range of 'quality' one maker has." There are some brand new Corvettes that are junk off the lot and some basic low end cars that never have a single problem. These are all things that wear down over time and at different rates based on how people drive them so people complaining about one over the other are all hot air. No sense in complaining about the maker when you really only have reference to YOUR VEHICLE and YOUR EXPERIENCE WITH IT. Glad you got it all fixed.
I have a 2000 Excursion with a V10 in it. I pull a 31 ft Airstream with it. I have been having problems with pinging under heavy load for a while. Higher octane fuel helps some but I think I have a bad knock sensor. I have checked for air leaks and have not found any. It has almost 140k miles on it. No codes at all. I guess it would not hurt to put some injector cleaner through it.
Pinging usually indicates pre-ignition or detonation. Have you pulled the spark plugs to check their condition? Try a couple cans of Seafoam fuel treatment. That is my go-to fuel system cleaner. Autozone usually has buy-one get-one free.
@@LyfUninterrupted I think it is probably a knock sensor. The computer is suppose to lean the mixture till it sees knock then retards the timing till it stops. If the knock sensor is bad it runs the timing to far advanced. Had this issue on my wife's Subaru. Fix the knock sensor and ping went away. I think there are two sensors on my engine. One for each bank of cylinders. Not easy to get to though.
Correct! I believe the knock sensors are u see the intake manifold. Check out ChiltonDIY.com for maintenance and repair manuals for your coach chassis. I use it religiously!
Some YT channels can be a bit too staged or overly dramatic, some just whine too much about everything. I tend to enjoy those that depict travels or subject in a realistic candid approach. Honesty is the quality I look for.
I agree with the Mercedes mechanic, I would have put in all new injectors. If one in the bunch went bad no telling when the next one goes! You found a great shop and really got a great price. Do they do diesel engines also? We are leaving Iowa for Tombstone tomorrow and I would use that shop in a heartbeat if the need comes up. Glad your back on the road, safe travels!
I’m so glad you got that engine fixed and finally found somebody to fix it. Too bad nobody could fix it in Florida. What do people do there if they need their engine fixed? That’s a shame. So sorry again that this happened. But at least it didn’t cost &10,000 like they told you at other places. Arizona seems the place to go for engines. Nice and the people there do a great job on engines it looks like. Now your home is as good as new. 👍 Have a great weekend! And drive safe and stay safe.
There are plenty of good shops in Florida...and a general rule the only reason to take a motorhome to the dealer is for warranty work....A good independent shop will be a better option!
Nice! Makes it a nice Christmas for you to get your coach back but unfortunately and expensive Christmas.Glad you two found other accommodations to stay at. Hope you have a new warranty on it. Yep just heard that. 😊 Sweet that it didn't cost what you were originally quoted! Great explanation of what went wrong. Merry Christmas Eve and Merry Christmas to You two!!
I am so sorry that you had to go through that terrible expense. I am myself about to purchase a brand new 2020 with the Ford V 10 engine in a 32 foot motorhome class C. I still think Ford builds the best engine for the job, certainly much better than GM. Now you have pretty much a brand new engine and you know how to take care of it so you should be good to go from here on out. I’ll see you out there on the road I live just down the street in Tucson.
I would think maybe intake valve guides or seals for that cylinder with the carbon on top of the piston, The carbon deposits damaged the rings and the thrust side of the piston skirt will always take the brunt of the damage,
Glad to hear you got it taken care of, i know i sit behind my rebuilt 5.4 and love the confidence of a rebuilt engine. Sounds like you paid almost similar pricing but you also had to pay for the big rig labor. Hope i get a chance to park up along side that beast one day!
20 thousandths over should make her run like a racecar. I'm surprised the open injector didn't cause a check engine light to Flash. And if it was running rich for that long I would keep an eye on the Cattiletic Converter for temperature change. Running rich will clog it and cause it to not flow freely.
Lol twenty thousand over bore is not going to change the performance your talking about the thickness of a matchbook lol it's only to clean up the cylinder walls we go thirty or even sixty over in many cases and if that was all that was done and all things put back. To exactly the way they were before absolutely no difference would be there at all possibly may feel like it runs a little stronger because the rings are sealing better in the cylinders but that's it
Yay! So happy to hear that you have your home back. Also, good to know you spent your dollars, at what sounds like a good local business, right here in Glendale, AZ. Merry Christmas to both of you!
Happy for you that it's fixed. Looks like they did a good job with proof of the work. I think I would have installed a crate engine because the engine not the labor would come with a Ford warranty. Happy new Year.
Looks like that shop did some very high quality work! I'm sure that you would recommend them to people in that particular area? Like you had said this was no small job! Good to see ya back on the road!
I was a GM Dealership Tech from 03-13 and Never once would I EVER sell a customer something their vehicle did not need! I realize that some flat rate techs take advantage of some people but I can ASSURE you that they don't last long! These techs that performed your work for sure went above and beyond! Those are the kinds of techs that are mostly out there! Like any industry some bad apples pop up however this repair facility employs honest hard working great techs! Love vids like this!
That looks like lean run condition as the root cause, causing the piston to melt and smear aluminum on the cylinder wall. That would take out the temper of the rings, which would lower the compression and allowing the diesel to not be completely burned causing the carbon build up. A vacuum leak at the intake would be my first suspect in this scenario. Did not see if the lower end was checked for wear or not.
This was one of our fears. That’s why we got a fifth wheel. Plus more room. We also want to find a mobile RV repair company. The pur of the engine sounds much better. The price difference is crazy.
Glad you got taken care of by a good repair shop. I have 90,000 miles on a 2002 twenty seven foot Fun Mover. I highly recommend the Banks Power Kit and Transmission Computer. Unbelievable difference in drivability and performance. I have also found that the coils should be replaced with the plugs. I have had three go bad. The price of the coils and plugs is reasonable as a set on Ebay. The coils are not the problem but the rubber boots that cover the plug insulators fail and short to the cylinder head. Do not use twenty weight oil. I reccomend thirty for engine longevity. I do not use twenty in any vehicle.
Great info! I have the Banks kit on our rig too. I spoke with a Ford Tech and he also recommends going to a 5W-30 or even a straight 30 weight in hotter climates. Thanks for watching!
I am a retired Automotive Instructor and have seen and heard with my own ears many problems with the factory recommended light weight oils. I would never recommend twenty weight oil in any motor. As a motor grows old, so does the internal clearances which leads to even faster wear and more windage that can not be removed by the oil control rings. End result is oil consumption. You need to raise the oil viscosity with the milage to help fill the void in the clearances that have grown and control windage which leads to oil consumption.
The engine shop uses 10W-30 conventional oil for break-in then said I can switch to OE recommended oil. I’m inclined to stay with 10W-30. My understanding is that the OE recommendations are driven by the need to make stated MPG. Your thoughts?
Thanks for the thorough update. We have rebuilt an engine or two, but never one in a MH. Not looking forward to the thought of needing ours rebuilt someday, but if we do let's hope we can get it to Glendale, AZ. 😉 Merry Christmas and Happy Travels in the New Year!

Proof that not all auto repair shops are out to screw you. Good job guys! Thanks for demonstrating that good mechanics still exists.

@@LyfUninterrupted Have you put a link on here for the shop that did the work?
No link, but we do discuss that in the video.
Thanks for sharing this. My van has the Triton V10...very powerful, amd been running string at 229,000 original miles.
Looking to purchase a 2000 Rexhall Vision V26. V10. 47000 miles
Anything you recommend to look for?
I was multitasking while watching the beginning of this video... missed the caption that it was the OLD engine running, thought it was a diesel.. then read it’s a Triton V10 (like my coach). I had to rewind... thanks for sharing.
Thanks for tuning in Cory.
Thanks for the i fo! I've watched that and it's a really good testament to how reliable the Triton V10s really are.
I’m glad to see you got your rig repaired. It’s nice to see a shop like this take great pride in what they do. And I must say they gave you a great price.
Yes indeed! Thanks for watching!
6700 for a new engine and install is a really good deal. That shop has my vote.
Brian Walker Thanks! I’ll check around our area for shops that do that.
Brian Walker what's the name of the injector cleaner you used I nave a 16 Tiffin with a V10
Steve St. martin Motorcraft Power Flush Injector Fluid. You use it with a special pressurized canister and the vehicle runs off of it instead of using the gasoline from the fuel tank.
Brian Walker so your ford dealer has to do it I thought it was something I could add to the tank
Steve St. martin It is definitely not something you can do yourself.
The cost was much cheaper than your other quotes too.
nbmws6 Yes indeed! Thanks for watching.
What a treat to find someone who actually knows what the hell they are doing. Seems to be more and more rare.
The shop was great. No frills. Just pure talent.
They rebuild the Ford V10 6.8 engine all the time.
Every single time they rebuild a Triton 6.8. V10 it’s always the same expression, “why’d anyone want to to rebuild a engine with a reputation like that one”
Is the answer my friends, that actually a V10 engine still blows us away, with two extra cylinder and better gasoline mileage than a square body Chevy, Ford, Dodge.
Let’s hope you never need to have it rebuilt! Thanks for watching.
Thanks for sharing your story. Glad to see you got your rig back up and running in such a short period of time. Happy travels!
Thank you John!
Bummer a $70 dollar failed part caused $7k worth of trouble. Thanks for the detailed vid.
Thanks for tuning in. The engine has been running great!
That's good news for you , I know 6K unexpected is little pain, but now your good to go. I will keep the engine builders in mind and make sure my injectors are clean. Thanks for the update and info.
Excellent idea. Seafoam is about the best you can use as a preventative

Had to replace the motor and a little frustrated now
but love it anyway.
Excellent! Let us know how it goes!
Thank you! Merry Christmas!
Thanks for the video. V10 are great engines we love ours. Just turned 200,000 on the baby. They do have their issues but all engines do. Nice to know there are good shops out there.

Which to me is very funny, because they had the
equipment to work on them but had to go to Ford to get the parts.

Thank you!
Thanks for the update I’ve got the V10 in my Tiffin and if I have a problem I’ll use these guys
Thanks for watching!
great video, appreciated hearing the entire story.

So true. Thanks for sharing your insights.
Ouch! That does not sound fun. Thanks for watching!
I had a Triton V-10 engine in my 2000 Bounder and just sold it 3 months ago. It still runs and sounds better than my newer 2016 Triton V-10 engine.
Glad you had a good experience with yours. I’m not at all disappointed with ours, even with the problem we had. Things happen.
👍

Thanks for sharing your thoughts! Merry Christmas!
Have a fellow who is having same problem you had and recommend him to go to The Engine Builders. Watched this video again. Great job and thanks.
Thanks Dave! We’re so glad that issue is behind us. The new engine has over 10K miles now and running like a top.

Thanks! It was a hassle for sure. We went to three different Ford commercial truck dealers, but none wanted to touch the engine. Not sure why exactly.
Glad to hear you’re getting a good engine. Jasper is one of the best, plus a nationwide warranty I assume.
Sounds like it's awfully pricey compared at least to the video we just saw but I expect half of the price is engine alone or possibly even more than half idk but big things cost big bucks to repair or replace so it is what it is sorry to hear that it's a bad hit for real
Thanks for the update I was curios what was wrong with the engine. That sure seems like a good price for the repairs. Back on the road.

Agree! The shop has a very good reputation for quality and workmanship.
Thanks! We're glad it all worked out.
How did you get the dealer software?
@@LyfUninterrupted the vehicle I mentioned is a BMW. It's pretty easy to find online. It should be out there for a Ford, I would imagine.

Thanks for watching!
Motor home's are real bad for throwing codes till to late thank you for the great video
Thanks David! The rebuilt engine has about 8000 miles on it now and it’s running strong. Plus it has 1/8 more horsepower now!😂
@@LyfUninterrupted have a great time camping very nice people
👍
Wow that's a nice builder. Pictures and all. Rare.
Very rare indeed. We like to highlight companies like this that go above and beyond. Thanks for watching.
Glad you got the issue resolved.
Thank you!
So very true! Great insight and wisdom from your father!
Glad you where able to get the repair done and get back on the road. Merry Christmas
Thank you! Merry Christmas!
Thanks for sharing your experience!
👍
always nice to get a new engine. good luck with it, you are good to go.
Yes indeed! Thanks for watching!
Glad things got solved! 😮just realized the date!!!
Thanks for watching!
This is why I want a Class C instead of a Class A. I would not want my coach torn apart like that . Thanks for the video.
Thanks for watching!
A Class C is even harder and just as intrusive to do a motor on!
We had a class c 👎. Now a class A 👍
Good to hear ....superb price for all that was done... Merry Christmas and Happy New Year !!!
Thank you! Merry Christmas to you!
@@LyfUninterrupted I was thinking of a couple cans of seafoam as well.
Glad they put the melling pump in there don’t have to worry about idling it now did they recommend that or you tell them to do it
They replace all stock oil pumps with Melling pumps. Another great sign of a shop that builds quality into their product!
Enjoy your down to earth approach channel!
Thank you Dave! We get this quite a bit. What has been your experience watching other RV channels?
Some YT channels can be a bit too staged or overly dramatic, some just whine too much about everything. I tend to enjoy those that depict travels or subject in a realistic candid approach. Honesty is the quality I look for.
Thank you Dave! We work hard to stay away from the drama and too much negativity. YT seems to reward those kinds of channels however.
Yes they do. My brother-in-law had them rebuild the diesel engine in his truck. Thanks for watching!
👍
There are plenty of good shops in Florida...and a general rule the only reason to take a motorhome to the dealer is for warranty work....A good independent shop will be a better option!
Nice! Makes it a nice Christmas for you to get your coach back but unfortunately and expensive Christmas.Glad you two found other accommodations to stay at. Hope you have a new warranty on it. Yep just heard that. 😊 Sweet that it didn't cost what you were originally quoted! Great explanation of what went wrong. Merry Christmas Eve and Merry Christmas to You two!!
Thank you! Merry Christmas!
We agree! The V10 is a good engine but has its issues just like any other. We'll be at the FMCA convention in Tucson from March 26th-30th.
I would think maybe intake valve guides or seals for that cylinder with the carbon on top of the piston, The carbon deposits damaged the rings and the thrust side of the piston skirt will always take the brunt of the damage,
The shop that rebuilt the heads said they didn’t see any glaring issues, but what you describe makes sense.
Glad to hear you got it taken care of, i know i sit behind my rebuilt 5.4 and love the confidence of a rebuilt engine.
Sounds like you paid almost similar pricing but you also had to pay for the big rig labor.
Hope i get a chance to park up along side that beast one day!
We're glad we went with the rebuild option too!
20 thousandths over should make her run like a racecar. I'm surprised the open injector didn't cause a check engine light to Flash.
And if it was running rich for that long I would keep an eye on the Cattiletic Converter for temperature change. Running rich will clog it and cause it to not flow freely.
Motorhome Gearhead Will do! Thanks for the info.
Lol twenty thousand over bore is not going to change the performance your talking about the thickness of a matchbook lol it's only to clean up the cylinder walls we go thirty or even sixty over in many cases and if that was all that was done and all things put back. To exactly the way they were before absolutely no difference would be there at all possibly may feel like it runs a little stronger because the rings are sealing better in the cylinders but that's it
Great video very well explained
Thank you!
Yay! So happy to hear that you have your home back. Also, good to know you spent your dollars, at what sounds like a good local business, right here in Glendale, AZ. Merry Christmas to both of you!
Thanks! Merry Christmas! We're still looking forward to that cook-out!
Lyf Uninterrupted we are looking forward to it also! Just let us know when it works for you!
Happy for you that it's fixed. Looks like they did a good job with proof of the work. I think I would have installed a crate engine because the engine not the labor would come with a Ford warranty. Happy new Year.
Thanks for watching. Happy New Year!
@@LyfUninterrupted What was the mileage on the old engine. Thanks
Terri Pomeroy Sadly, it only had about 45600 miles on it.
Thanks Chris!
Great video, I will now follow the Ford recommended oil change intervals. I have a tendency to stretch the interval to save money. No more
Yes! Follow the OEM recommendations. Thanks for watching.
more oil changes would not have avoided the issue but yes a good policy
That looks like lean run condition as the root cause, causing the piston to melt and smear aluminum on the cylinder wall. That would take out the temper of the rings, which would lower the compression and allowing the diesel to not be completely burned causing the carbon build up. A vacuum leak at the intake would be my first suspect in this scenario. Did not see if the lower end was checked for wear or not.
Thanks for the info!
Excellent video. Thanks. Got a knocking in my 99 Bounder. Probably a similar issue.
RV UNDERWAY oh no! Does your motorhome have the Triton V10?
I think you got an awesome deal! If i needed a motor job I'd be going there for sure.
We don’t think you could go wrong, that’s for sure.
This was one of our fears. That’s why we got a fifth wheel. Plus more room. We also want to find a mobile RV repair company. The pur of the engine sounds much better. The price difference is crazy.
5ers do have their benefits. Thanks for watching!
Your thoughts?
great outcome. pays to do research glad you made it to AZ
Thank you!
Congratulations on the repair and Merry Christmas to you two. Happy trails in 2020.
Thank you! Merry Christmas!
