5.4L 3-valve. Thank you. I think you just reminded me of what I forgot to do. I lost some fluid onto to top of my engine when I moved the crossover out of the way. Had to get the intake plenum out to swap out the temp sensor. Ford assembly is done before the body is set on the chassis during assembly. All of the back of the engine is easy to access and assemble while there is no body or firewall, or floorboards, or kick plates, or toe board... no fenders, grill or hood. That's why they're so hard to work on ex post facto, after the fact.
I have a 2000 5.4 that was leaking from the crossover gasket on the thermostat side..thermostat bolts go through the intake and into the head(long bolt)..the coolant leak siezed one of the bolts and of course broke off in the head so i had to remove the intake.once removed about 3/8in of the bolt was sticking out. After pb blaster / free all and fresh vise grips i had to drill and tap but was able to avoid helicoil..has been about 4 years since with no problems but yesterday it started missing and thats why I'm here..long story short ford gaskets dont like coolant and a thermostat should always be easily serviceable...great video, great advice!
In a LOT of the 4.6 and 5.4 engines, if you EVER throw a P0307 code, replace the coil pack ($50, ouch when often-repeated) and then within a month are replacing that same coil pack again, you BETTER be pulling your cam cover and checking all your followers too! 99% of the time, that 'can't find the miss' you keep patching with a new coil, is in fact, one of your intake cam followers has blown the bearings out, and excessive lash has allowed it to 'walk out' and lay in the oil galley...until it is chewed up enough to drop and destroy your valvetrain! If this happens, goodbye engine. Before that happens, if you find a cam follower off, TOSS IT (no guys, do not re-use it!!!) and replace the now-worn cam and ALL followers...the effort is WELL WORTH the effort!
Bingo Ron, my 2009 F-150 4.6Lheater core outlet hose connector got cracked and was dripping on #4. Just as you said produced the #4 misfire. Thanks for the info I know its 3 1/2 years later, but this video helped me solve this.
You are exactly right I had to do that to my 2002 Ford F150 with the 5.4 I had to change the intake while I was there I went ahead and changed the plugs coil packs and went as far as changing the water pump didn't want to have to go back in and do that again thank you so much for your video very informative you're right on the mark
Really? He was 3:30 into it before he started telling us anything and it was about coolant, not coil packs. HOW many minutes in do you need to go to get to the part that was what you were here for?
Ford has had the same issues with coolant running into the sparkplug wells for so many years. You'd think they'd listen to the customers and figure something else out. What a great engineering feat. Put a plastic intake on the top of a hot metal intake. I remember the first time I pulled a coil pack plug I thought I had a crack in the block!
😂 Now their using them to cover the bottom of oil pans. Come on Ford. People are paying top dollar for your vehicles. These are not places where they need to cheap out on.
Bro I'm going through the same thing right now 2008 town car my intake leaked into my spark plugs and now I replaced all spark plugs. Now I have to replace the intake to stop the leak and replace all coils
Great info to help with the 5.4 in my '07 F150. I didn't have any P0308 code until after heavy rain so I'm hopeful that is the reason I'm getting that code but if not your video is really going to come in handy in case I need to fix it!
Excellent!!! Thank you brother! I have 2007 Ford F-150.... In my case pressure washing was culprit. I like the have a clean motor, but sometimes that comes at a price! I usually blow off my engine, then run a fan on it for 24 hours before I even crank it, however I realize now that water won’t dry out of the spark plug ports. I always shoot blaster down the ports, and wait a few hours before removing my plugs. I heard it’s a nightmare if you break one off! Thanks again! I think I will just live with a dirty motor over causing myself these problems.
Hi Ron. I just bought a Titan 5.4 and had it power washed. Sure enough big misfire. Your video was very helpful. I'll get to clearing out the excess water. Thanks Kev.
Ron! Thanks for the video. I don't have issues with water down the hole, or leaks of coolant, but this information is great for guys troubleshhoting their possible causes of misfire. I have a misfire someplace, and it only activates sometimes when I'm stopped at a red light. I should get it scanned. Thanks for the Denso boot information. I will lean towards that if I replace one or more. THUMBS UP!!
Just spoke with Ron via telephone call. Really cool guy. Gave me advice on what to look for on my 4.6 2003 Expedition cylinder 8 misfire. Thank you Ron. I will run a compression and switch around the coils. Thank you.
I use a food grade grease called Petrol Jel. It is made for neoprene. We sold it where I used to work. Water pump empreller s and and thing that is neoprene. It will even stop a leaky faucet in your house if the little seals aren't broken. It softens neoprene and protects it. Awesome grease
I really appreciate this video. I have a GM truck that randomly misfires at idle, only a handful of times per drive cycle. I don't think this video caught my exact issue but it was very informative nonetheless. It's pretty cool that you left a contract to help give people advice. Subscribed and will spread the word of your channel.
You have just earned another subscriber! I haven't tried what you said yet but you are clearly knowledgeable and your video quality rocks! Excited to watch more! Cheers!
On my V10, the driver’s side rear coil boot had coolant droplets on the outside. No puddling or anything like that. Looked like condensation. Wondering if I should just do the manifold gaskets while I am at it.
I actually watched your video, and looked in or at the area where the Thermostat Housing, was located, and I didn't see any Anti Freeze?but there is a leak in that area, it must be a small leak, but never the less a leak, because there was Antifreeze that had leaked down into #5 Spark Plug port. And I only found that out after I removed all of the COP's,plus Spark Plugs,on the passenger side, and then I proceeded to the drivers side. And ,so,I removed the Air intake cleaner, and Duck, and then the first COP I removed was #5,and that's when I noticed moister, on the surface of the COP's Spark Plug Boot, and Antifreeze down in the Spark Plug port So thanks for your video, as that was my problem, and I will look closer tomorrow,to try to see where the Antifreeze is leaking from, but thanks again for you video. .
ford also have a known issue - they were designed with drain/weep holes in the windshield wipe cowl, area so in heavy rains or washing the vehicle without letting dry, water will drip down onto coils 4 and 8.
Hey Ron, just worked a security gig for Denso a few weeks ago. They're actually right down the street from you off of Adams Street over by Offroad Warehouse.
GReat video. Dead on in regards to ECM's inability to determine cylinder which is misfiring the most. On my 2000 5.4 2v 8 cyl the ECM is saying cylinder 9 and 10 are the bad actors.... Will start the process of replacing COP's tomorrow, I bought ENA's fr Amazon.
Great video, I got some random misfire codes last night and even a flashing check engine light. I have been chasing a coolant leak as well and this may be linked to each other, truck is a 98 F150 manual. Going out to trouble shoot now
Ron, you might want to also mention to everyone that when tuning up engines, sometimes putting to much dielectric grease into the spark plug boots will also create a misfire condition. I fought an intermittent miss in my Escape only to figure out there was a lot of grease inside the boots. Once I removed and cleaned all the boots the problem was gone!
Thank you so much & May you receive your crown's in heaven for saving people &myself our first born from going to Dealership's again.Thank You so much.
So I have a 4.6 in my 2003 Crown Vic, and the FORScan test shows misfire in cylinders 1,2,3,4-all on the right hand (passenger)side of the engine. All new plugs and coil packs. Could I have this problem causing the misfires? Thanks!
Good video, I have the same problematic issues and recall seeing a bit of coolant on the left side up front and I wasn't sure where it was coming from now thanks to you're awesome video I know what to look for. Thank you kindly
Hi Ron question ? I have a 2001 ford expedition xlt and my windsheild wipers want work. I change the multifunction turn signal switch the rear wipers work the turn signal work the bright lights work but not the wipers. I've change the fuse under the dash also i check the relays and change the wipers motor what else do i need to CHECK
2007 5.4 v8 mine did this as well while running it was blowing coolant up onto battery and passenger side coil packs. Had to file 3/8ths to slip cross over pipe back in without taking alternator off or the intake manifold. Also one on the bottom of driver side that is some piece for coolant and oil. Had that one blow and mix in the engine and I caught just in time to to flush oil and coolant twice replace gasket and a few coilpacks on passenger side which were my intermittent misfires
When you put dielectric grease on the ends of the plug wires, if you get some smeared on the outside of the boot & it touches the head that won't cause a short or crossover of the spark will it?? I think that's why they call it dielectric grease so it won't short out right?? I know l like asked & answered my own question but lm still learning & want to make sure lm either right or wrong!? Thank you very much for your time and understanding!!
@@billyhunt8983 Thank you! Mine is a older 4.6 & it has 2 separate l think there called coil packs? 1 on each side of the water pump. 4 plug wires go to 1 side & 4 to the other. It doesn't have individual coils per wire, but its still a bitch to change plugs & wires! Thanks again 🙂☯️
A lot of the water problems in this trucks are from the hood when it rain or car wash will affect it to seal the hood w a regular sealer and you see the difference
I have a 2001 6.8L triton v10. I had three coil packs go out a while ago I replaced all three but now a few months later I am getting a random misfire code. I’m leaning towards changing the plugs but I know that this engine has aluminum heads so I’m wondering if there is anything else I should try before the plugs.
My 2010 4.6 van front driver side coil pack #5 had 3/4” of dirty water. No smell or look of coolant. I’m suspecting rain water off of windshield. But all looks factory good?
So I just changed my thermostat and of course coolant did spill on to the engine. Now I have a misfiring issue. Now I know what to look for. Thank you so much for this video.
Had that problem with my 03 expedition 5.4 plastic part of the intake was cracked where the crossover bolts up ended up buying a new intake from Ford wasn't going to use that dormen replacement that's offered
I have a 2003 4.6 and I just used the cal van kit on cylinder 3 it worked great held the plug but then I developed a knocking noise and I had a coolant leak from the heater core hose that was leaking in the hole 🕳 I stopped the leak changed the plug and coil pack could that water have damaged the motor I also think the knocking noise might be the alternator bearing because the motor runs great and fires right up but when I speed the motor the noise quiets up
I had p0300, 301,307 Cleared codes for about 3 days , reappeared and then no more codes. Vehicle purchased used and engine compartment very clean. Could it have been pressure washed and water in plug holes evaporated and no more problem?
Oh wow this was very helpful. I'm gonna ck out my gasket & spacer cause I just paid 700 bucks to change plugs and coils to get ck engine lite out for smog ck and it's back on again throwing P codes. This really sucks cause Ive been homeless in my 2006 E250 4.6 for over a year now finally got my inheritance and having to spend it all on ck engine crap. Really 😢😭
I have a 2008 6.8L and the intake manifold on the passenger side doesn't match up to the head. It doesn't seem to be leaking externally but I have a PO305.
i have a 2004 Ford F150 lariat 5.4 triton . I just bought this thing today from an old lady. I test drove it a week ago and it worked fine. Today i brought it home and i felt it stutter while driving down the road going 30 plus. There are no codes. The vehicle is in mint condition. I did notice the PCV connector was a little loose. Does it have to spit out a code? What do you think it is?
I had a 03 f150 5.4 . Went 250k miles before i had to change one . I desided to change all of them . Sold the truck at 275k . The other pwner still driving it .
Hey Ron my 1999 F150 4.6 liter Triton motor does not have coil on spark plug coils. It does have ignition coils but no coil packs on plugs. My question is, is what year did Ford not use coils on slark plugs. I'm thinking my motor in truck is not the original motor. Plz help. Thx and great video.
I had multiple coils and plugs replaced, a couple of them had condensation on the boots in cold weather. had to add a very small amount of coolant only once In the 3 years I've owned the truck so I don't think I'm leaking coolant, any ideas?
Help please, started my vehicle and white smoke came out of the throttle body. So I replaced I knew intake and Gasket. That solve the problem 2 weeks later it did it again. This time I replace the gaskets, the intake was new. Almost two weeks later the same thing again white smoke out of the intake/ throttle body. I did have to rethread cylinder 8 spark plug blew out. And now I have a misfire po358. Replace the coil replace the plug. 12 volts on the connector. And receiving a pulse, on the other wire for the PCM. I have noted removing the connectors, off cylinder 8 did you change the engine from run differently of course it would not. Nor did it do it with one free or 5 it all sounded the same not even not even a stall. I do have to keep the RPM's up to 1200 when stopping at a light power braking. Or put a piece of paper on the throttle body to maintain 700 RPMs while checking everything out. Compression check on cylinder one 195 all cylinders range from 195 up to 215 PSI vehicle has 270000, it's been a great truck. I would like to keep it. If I can
My husband has an 07 F150 that the #7 cylinder fills up with water every time it rains. Our mechanic has repaired it twice and it's not a coil issue. He showed us that water is running right into the cylinder from the vent above. How do we stop this? We can't stop the rain!
hey ron i have a few questions my 98. 4.6 v8 2 piece plugs question 1 can i replace them to 1 piece plugs and question 2 what would you recommend as to taking them out
Hey Ron it was nice talking to you the other day . I was the one with the 427 Ford. I asked you why there was a idle circuit for the front carb on the 427 and you replied that having the idle circuit on the front balances out the engine for fuel delivery which I agree with . You stated that having only the center carb for the idle circuit will cause the engine to run lean on the forward banks. Here is my other question? I have a 65 GTO with the factory Tri power I have a 400 bored out .030 over 10.5 forged pistons 428 HO heads with a isky Cam 475 lift 292 duration and it only has the idle circuit on the center carb I have never had a lean condition on this engine even with the cam and 428 HO heads . The linkage is progressive. I do agree with what you are saying but I have also proved that is not true running only a center carb with the outer carbs with no idle circuit. On a progressive linkage I still don't understand why Ford put in a idle circuit on the front carb? If it was direct linkage and all carbs ran the same time yes you would need the idle circuit . Thanks for the videos very well done!
Okay think of it this way. The idle circuits themselves are not affected for the most part by the throttle plate. The idle circuits use a suction effect from vacuum below the throttle plate.
@@SandCarServices I totally agree with what you are saying in principle . All I am saying is the rest of the manufactures with multiple progressive carburetors there are no provisions for the idle circuits for the front and rear carbs and they run fine even with the performance build on my Pontiac 400 it has never had a lean condition with only one carb with the idle circuit, I think Ford might of been in a hurry to develop the 427 and put a standard Holley 4150 series with a idle circuit on this engine for the front carb when it wasn't needed. All my point is the rear carb is centered on the intake for the primary's the engine would run fine with just a idle circuit for one carb. Case in point the Chrysler 440 six pack Holley 2300 series and they ran the same set up on the Chev 427 and that was 435 HP that is more cubic inch than the 427 and they run fine with just one idle circuit Now if the carbs were not progressive the front carb would need the idle circuit . I totally agree with what you are saying and the principle but the idle circuit on my 427 for the front carb really isn't needed . I will have to get them balanced when I get the engine done . Thank you for your very informative videos they are very well done . Keep up the good work.! After seeing the hell you have been through I don't see a Ford 5.4 in my near future hahahahahah
I hava a misfire and also loss of power. I replaced spark plugs and coil packs. Still have the misfire and loss of power. It is a 2007 E150 4.6. No leaking coolant visible in any spark plug holes. What else could it be.?
2013 6.8 e450, New engine and 5 new coils. Misfiring like crazy on both sides. All coils are new on d- side and p- side best out of 10 coils.Misfire is on both sides? Will kinda smooth out at higher rpm but stalls at curb idle? Help please. Thanks!
Ron I just brought ford e350 with a cylinder 6 misfire.the owner explain that when the van goes in reverse it misfire. The reason I brought it was cause the miles was good but now I feel like the chances is i brought a lemon I’m scared to death I invested all my money to buy this van 😢
Question, I have a 2005 150-5.4 with a new reman. engine. about 30k miles on it. It has started to misfire just under a certain load. No codes showing thus far. Think I have a coil misfire? Dont have a fancy code reader? suggestions?
i got one in the back yard with a stuck plug that wont budge had something leaked down in the hole now i cant get the damn plug out the bad part is is the last plug on the left and its hard to get a wrech too much crud the plug socket wont go down into the plug all the way im strugleing to get a grip on the plug
It's not always the engineer. A lot of engineering decisions are made by accountants. The engineers should have to do every service operation before final approval of the design.
Hi nice video I have a 2001 f150 4.6 and I can do a power balance test but the only cylinder I see not normal is #8 it stays on the highest point on the scale and It will not come down even if I remove the coil . Hopefully you can give me some help . Thanks
DONT REPLACE WITH FACTORY GASKETS..A lot of the problem with the rubber deteriorating is when Ford Engineers designed it there was no ethanol in the fuel. Later on 10% ethanol which is basically like rubbing alcohol it dries and cracks the gaskets. The good thing is gasket companies like felpro have made gaskets from different material that holds up to the drying of ethanol.
I have a 05 f250 5.4 super duty ,I hooked it up to a computer and it said number 7 was filed so I change the spark plugs and coil packs in the fuel injectors and it's still having the same problem and I checked the compression and it was good. what else do you think it could be because I'm lost right now I don't know what else to do
If you are getting misfires an issue you would never suspect can be the coolant itself. The Ford garage chased a stalling issue for me for over three weeks. In the end they could not eliminate this issue and it eventually was fixed by me changing to fresh coolant. We coolant and two different metals creates a battery and the current will throw off the sensors and cause a misfire by sending the engine and ecu into a lean condition. Been chasing this issue for a complete year and had the truck into two different Ford garages. Items done to my truck: New battery New plugs New air filter New fuel filter Cleaned MAF Cleaned throttle bodies Cleaned IAC valve Checked all hoses for vacuum leaks Changed transmission speed sensor Swaped fuel pump relay Changed ECU None of this fixed the issue so the next direction was going to see if the fuel pump or regulator was going out. Changed coolant.......all problems gone. Just finished putting 2500 miles on the truck. No stalling. Not saying this is your issue but this did not throw a code to indicate a lean condition. We did get some cray electrical errors such as the Ford scan saying the engine was at 5200 rpm while idling. Most important item I learned form this is make sure your basic maintenance is up to date. I bought my truck over two years ago and should have changed the coolant in order to set a baseline. Failure to do so cost me lots of time and some money @$1700 and it all might have been the coolant aging out. Thank you for your video as it helped me compile a list of things to check.
@@JV-vy7de Old coolant can cause the metals in the engine to produce a current. This current can throw off the sensors and create an issue. The time it was most evident was we had a hard start when hot as the voltage caused an extreme lean condition and the result was a no start of very hard start . This might not be your case but it is a reason to make sure all your basic maintenance is up to date when you start solving issues. In the end mine was weak spark and as the engine got warm the fuel supplied could not be ignited after it warmed up. What threw me off was it would always start fine and drive well but once warm would stall out at a light or when foot on the brake in neutral or park. If you know the cylinder that is giving you the misfire you can swap coils between cylinders and see if the misfire follows. Hope this helps
I've got a 6.8 and get some misfires at low rpm (idle) but it runs fine otherwise. It doesn't throw a code very often but when it is is a P0302 (IIRC). I've seen online that it could be a small leak in the EGR system. What is your take?
This was actually the problem I've been having with my 97 4.6 but it was a hose over the top of the engine and sometimes the rain from the back of the hood
So I did an alternator in a 2008 with 4.6 and then had a coolant leak so fixed that issue now its running like it's got a bad miss but not throwing any codes. I unplugged the coil and it threw a code right away. Plugged it back in and the code went away but still runs like crap.
I have a 2006 Ford F-250 gas 4.6 and it randomly went from driving like a brand new car to stalling. I was in the highway doing 80mph and lost acceleration. Pulled off the highway and when I came to a complete stop my truck started shaking. PLEASE HELP!!!
I have a 2001 Ford F-150 with the 5.4 triton in it and it’s not firing on the #1 and #4 cylinder what could be the problem I ran a code scanner on it and it had 4 different codes come up what could be the problem
I have a 2007 F150 with a 4.6L SOHC V8 (2 valve) engine. Going on 150k miles on stock parts. Would l benefit from a high M340HV volume oil pump? What other upgrades/replacements do you recommend for my engine? Always used mobile 1 synthetic oil every 5k miles.
Does this happen only on the plastic intakes or the aluminium ones as well? My 97 F150 is still going strong on the original gaskets and my intake is aluminium.
having a misfire on cold start up only, 2008 crown vic 4.6L, replaced plugs, cleaned throttle body, egr valve, no change, pulled a p0300 code also, been chasing this about a year now, car has 223,000 miles and runs really well when warmed up, i'm stumped on this thing
My rough idle was a misfire caused by dead coil. And when driving normally, the truck would start shaking as if my engine and transmission were loose when I'd get to about 55± mph, just to find out it was bc an unfired cylinder caused so much imbalance. Replace coil, all good now. Id thinking it was something really bad or a multitude of stacked issues. Thankfully was easy fix. And I have 2004 F150 5.4
cylinder 1 constant misfire, replaced coils, plugs and injectors. still misfire cylinder 1. I have to do a compression test. cylinder 1 spit a plug about a year ago. was fine since now it seems dead. please any advice is appreciated
I have exact same motor that you're making this video of the seals went out on my intake manifold yes they are flooding cylinder 7 I'm trying to find that intake manifold for my 4.6 liter engine I cannot find it at all I have called 10or15 junk yards I finally found one
I got same problem on 2010 4.6, had bunch of crusty stuff in each spark plug hole. Cleaned em all out before i pulled em. Computer said random & #5 misfire codes, i pulled intake off& #5 intake hole was full of coolant today. All new gaskets goin in tomorrow

THUMBS UP!!
You've got a fucking vacuum leakage or possibly a failing Brake cylinder booster.
Excellent detail and covers the entire spectrum of possible problems. Water is NOT good in the Coil Cavity!!! You saved me mucho denaro...thx
my problem exactly! Great video. 4.6 ford 2006
Just spoke with Ron via telephone call. Really cool guy. Gave me advice on what to look for on my 4.6 2003 Expedition cylinder 8 misfire. Thank you Ron. I will run a compression and switch around the coils. Thank you.
i have the same issue with my 4.6 grand marquis
I ended up having a bad coil. #8 to be exact. Bought a new Motorcraft coil from AutoZone and it fixed my misfire.
This guy is my mechanic he knows his shit and he is honest
Thanks Larry
Awesome feedback. Chasing the illusive misfiring one coil pack at a time...
Changed my mind about buying one of these. Heard lots of bad news. I'll stick to my 1976 302.
Thank you for helping me out with sparkplug issue i was having.. Now this was a great video (IN MY OPINION).. Have a great day.
You have just earned another subscriber! I haven't tried what you said yet but you are clearly knowledgeable and your video quality rocks! Excited to watch more! Cheers!
Don't forget the hood to cowl seal that fails and allows water to drain on back plug Wells.
?
Yep, 6.8 v10 here and just had to do that to 2&3....blew it out and regreased boots checked coils with ohmeter and all good now.
@@gurban333 Really?? I'm misfiring 4 & 8!

Hey Ron, just worked a security gig for Denso a few weeks ago. They're actually right down the street from you off of Adams Street over by Offroad Warehouse.
Yes, I know.

Thank you sir, we are very fortunate to have this video
Hey Ron your Ford knowledge is very well informed and beneficial to me you ll be definitely hearing from me
GReat video.
THANK YOU FOR THE GREAT INFORMATION YOU GIVE US MR. RON
Great video, I got some random misfire codes last night and even a flashing check engine light. I have been chasing a coolant leak as well and this may be linked to each other, truck is a 98 F150 manual. Going out to trouble shoot now
He’s a good teacher nice keep it up man
Ron, you might want to also mention to everyone that when tuning up engines, sometimes putting to much dielectric grease into the spark plug boots will also create a misfire condition. I fought an intermittent miss in my Escape only to figure out there was a lot of grease inside the boots. Once I removed and cleaned all the boots the problem was gone!
THIS is exactly why I NEVER put even the smallest amount of Dielectric grease on the Higher mileage engines, the computer reading is too sensitive.
Engineers may not be the brightest tools in the shed but they definitely are the sharpest tools in the shed. Lol

No there's no crossover period. It's stops moisture and corrosion.

Thank you!
You are welcome
Had that problem with my 03 expedition 5.4 plastic part of the intake was cracked where the crossover bolts up ended up buying a new intake from Ford wasn't going to use that dormen replacement that's offered
Heater hose was leaking at the 'T' above the passenger side coil pack causing a misfire. '2012 5.4', easy fix.
I have a 2003 4.6 and I just used the cal van kit on cylinder 3 it worked great held the plug but then I developed a knocking noise and I had a coolant leak from the heater core hose that was leaking in the hole 🕳 I stopped the leak changed the plug and coil pack could that water have damaged the motor I also think the knocking noise might be the alternator bearing because the motor runs great and fires right up but when I speed the motor the noise quiets up
I had p0300, 301,307
Cleared codes for about 3 days , reappeared and then no more codes.

Yes sir! Makes you stop and think about everything for a while
Dang I wish I had a mechanic like you
I had a 03 f150 5.4 . Went 250k miles before i had to change one . I desided to change all of them .
Sold the truck at 275k . The other pwner still driving it .
Solid video. You obviously know what your talking about because you use Cids & pids.
Ron, what if there IS a bit of oil down in where the coils go on the 5.4? What's next if that's the case? Thanks
Replace valve cover gaskets is next step
We can't stop the rain!
hey ron i have a few questions my 98. 4.6 v8 2 piece plugs question 1 can i replace them to 1 piece plugs and question 2 what would you recommend as to taking them out
Can this cause P0308 also on a 06 F150 4.6L? No flashing engine light it's just on and has a rough idle and miss when driving below 50mph
The hard way is to buy 1 good high quality coil and start at number 1 cylinder and replace them 1 by one. If it's a bad coil you will find it
Thanks! 2000 expedition here...have not seen coolant leak but number 5 keeps screwing up...
Great video! This is exactly what happened to my 2003 Expedition 5.4L. My coolant leak what due to a faulty heater valve. 👍🏼
i got one in the back yard with a stuck plug that wont budge had something leaked down in the hole now i cant get the damn plug out the bad part is is the last plug on the left and its hard to get a wrech too much crud the plug socket wont go down into the plug all the way im strugleing to get a grip on the plug
Edit: only on gaskets where fuel is involved.
By the way thank you for the video and I by no means I'm taking away from your expertise just adding from my experiences only
Hey. I know this video is old. But I really need some advice on a p0355 that's been going on with my 02 f150 5.4
Items done to my truck:
New battery
New plugs
New air filter
New fuel filter
Cleaned MAF
Cleaned throttle bodies
Cleaned IAC valve
Checked all hoses for vacuum leaks
Changed transmission speed sensor
Swaped fuel pump relay
Changed ECU
None of this fixed the issue so the next direction was going to see if the fuel pump or regulator was going out.
Been chasing a random misfire for seven months. I don't fully understand your old coolant theory. Can you clarify?
Great video! I am having this problem now with my E 250.

The aluminum manifold use the same style gaskets and they do leak. But I do far more plastic manifolds because of the crossover factor
