- I had the chance to review a 2008 F250 with the 6.8L V10. Its a nice ride, and for those of you looking for used truck for towing, check this one out!

A few guys commented on the towing capacity, and it's up to 12,500 lbs. Thanks gents I got my numbers backwards.
12500 for conventional towing/travel trailer, 15000 for 5th wheel towing
Trust me, that engine is capable of 20k+ Just make sure to upgrade your brakes before hand.
All trucks deserve a v8 or v10
After running diesels hard for years I'm switching to a v10 I'll pay the extra gas and not deal with bank draining diesel repairs.
You won my sub when you said pickup trucks were pickup trucks. This was also before Trucks started costing outrageous prices.
Appreciate ya bro! It's crazy though BMWs are the same price as pick up trucks and a single cab is more than a civic.
@@LJsGarage yeah i just bought an 03 f250. Was looking at the prices of the newer used ones they are crazy. I needed a farm truck not a family pavment princess.
Good choice! At the end of the day I remember when Lincoln made one of the first luxury pick ups and people laughed and here we are now. Even the Escalade truck people hated on thinking we wouldn't have buyers for them.
Im late; my 2500 cummins, 5.9 ,3 Transmissions because i tow a 8k mini excavator. Engine shot at 300k.
So now, im looking at older ford w v10. I have v10 in older motor home. Love it. Since im semi-retiring, dont want the huge cost of another deisel mainly...im angry about environuts destroying good in line 6 cyclinder diesels.
I have a 2003 with the V10, love it! It’s a real truck!
I have the 2001 full four doors with extended bed
got an 03 supercharged brotha! passes everything but a gas station.....
Learned to drive in an 01 v10 excursion! Don't let your 16 year old buy a v10... so many burn outs!
Great Video! My 99 F250 V10 super cab Lariat automatic 2WD came with 4:30 gears with a Trac-lock differential. It still looks and runs great @ 167k. Gas mileage is around 9.3 city & 13.5 highway. Highway speed average is 60 mph @ 2000 rpm.
Thanks for the positive vibes! Those gas mileage numbers are crazy haha I respect you for keeping that ride on the road!
P J ram for the win!!
V10 with 4.30 is great for towing but with 2000rmp at 60mph you're taking some serious beating on fuel on the highway.
Get bigger tires, that might actually raise your MPG On the highway and lower the axle ratio artificially. My ram 2500 with hemi runs 1800 RPM at 70mph. And 2100 at 80mph.
@@gc99289 Large and heavier tires on a truck decrease fuel efficiency,it never raises it.And the V10 is not a gas saver engine. If people are worried about fuel economy with a huge size gas engine in a heavy truck, then either they should consider a diesel truck with more deceny on fuel but more costly on mainteance,or just not purchase a truck at all.My 2002 F550 XLT had the 6.8L and I got 7-9 MPG,but keep it in mind that my truck was a estimate of 12,000 lbs because it had a service bed on the rear and it had 4:56 Gears too.
About to buy the same exact truck possibly (99’ f250 v10 long bed) but 4x4. Any advice? Worried about the gas and reliability, contemplating a diesel truck.. how many miles does your truck have now?
This was awesome bro. Keep it up you will get the views you deserve! Great quality 👍🏻
That means a lot man, thanks for the positive words!
Nice truck. Made me laugh when you said old school lol. Mine is a 2000 f250 super duty 4x4 crew cab long bed v10 XLT. 4:30 rear end. Love the truck. Leaf springs all the way around. (Rides like an old wagon) 165,000 miles. No leaks, no problems. Just regular maintenance. Pass everything but a gas station but I didnt buy it for the mpg.
haha, and that's a solid ride you got there plus I have heard good things about those and I still see plenty running around. Thanks for checking out the vid Terry!
certainly not old school enough, i have a 1975 F250
@@P_o_l_a_r_i_s haha that's old school
About to buy the same exact truck possibly (99’ f250 v10 long bed) w/ 95k miles for 10g’s. Any advice? Worried about the gas and reliability, contemplating a diesel truck.. how many miles does your truck have now?
@@dfy so mine has over 205,000miles. Still runs great. Starts up every time. Nothing major really just every day maintanenc and only replace worn out parts. Its horrible on gas but cheap on maintaining. Parts are easy to come by usually. Aftermarket world is big enough to play around with looks of the truck. As long as you check spark plug tightness, oil level and make sure everything works before buying it. Great truck. Its my work horse. Sometimes id like a diesel to pull my trailers in the mountains but it does just fine.
I confirm on that towing cap. I have a 2010 SuperCrew 4x4 with the V10 (74k miles) and I drive that thing everywhere. 😁
Thanks John, Hope it's treating you well! 👌🏿
This video was fantastic! You deserve all the subscribers in the world man. Wishing you well
I appreciate that my friend. Been a struggle lately so comments like this give me a boost!
The ingredients for a real truck are reg cab, long box, stick, manual transfer case, lockout hubs, they are very hard to find as the new trend is minivan with a tiny box on the back and only worried about useless things like heated leather and backup cameras.
That's a pretty solid recipe can't argue that. Who would have thought a Sierra Denali would be as expensive as it is with all the bells and whistles of an exotic car.
I got a Excursion 2000 limited. 10k towing until I do the suspension. But man do I love my v10. Its fun. 430s gearing and get 13 mpg around and get 15 highway.
Have you seen what the Excursions are going for nowadays they've shot up in price since people realize how capable they are and they just don't make an SUV built like a truck like those anymore
The intro applause..hahahaha
Excellent video all around..
I'm contemplating a 2006 with 60K
May be a bit late, but people offer to buy my excursion and its pushing 450k if you can grab one at 60k. Do it, and sell it for mad stacks in 10 years.
@@philipstanley5611
"Mad stacks".... =)
@@RSTI191 I mean people want my old pos (body work done by nature) So if you keep it nice, when trucks all start going hybrid/electric, I'm sure superdutys and full size trucks will be collectibles
Might want to check the horsepower and torque numbers again!! I have an 08 F-350. Super Duty, and It is 362 horse, 457 foot pounds of torque, I think!!!
I got a feeling the lift and tires probably had a lot to do with why that particular truck accelerates so slow. You'd be amazed at how much bigger tires will slow you down. Great video though!
Thanks for the input & honestly you're probably right! Good point on the tires.
Dude your review absolutely hilarious!!! Loved it! I'm actually a Ford guy. Not big fan of the V10. But I own a Power Stroke F350. Tired of the big loud diesel. Still want a big truck. But maybe I'll just have to settle for a F150?
Appreciate ya lol. And honestly the f150 is plenty unless you're doing some real towing and I mean real real towing. F150 is the champ!
The new 7.3 gas is pretty sweet ,no overhead cams
I've got a 06 f250 V10 with a 6 speed and that thing is a beast. Pulls better than most other trucks we own only being beaten by my dad's 2018 Cummins HO
Thats whats up!
Damn it LJ 👌👌👌👌
Haha 😎
What was that song from in the intro?
Should be able to tow more than 8600#, depending on rear differential and cooling systems in the truck. My previous 06' Expedition 4x4 w/3.73 gears towed a u-haul full car hauler and 89' Lincoln Towncar with ease, but rear sag was more than I would have liked, and that combinaton is relatively heavy. One may buy a 3/4 or 1 ton truck not only for towing, but payload capacity as well. For example, my father-in-law has a 2009 Hemi Ram crew and I have a 94' F250 supercab, and yes he has more power, but when loaded with concrete bags and lumber for fence building, he could not drive faster than 45mph without swaying all over the road. I, on the other hand pull a 34' travel trailer close to 10k lbs fully loaded with equipment and water with an 850lb tonque weight, not including firewood and other camping gear in bed at 60 and sometimes 70mph with little worry on vehicle handling. Hauling almost two cords of oak firewood in bed puts no stress on my suspension or engine performance.
I see what you're saying and you're probably right. It's probably the safe recommendation from Ford that people have gotten which is the conservative 8600lbs. I don't doubt you could pull more!
@@LJsGarage I think maybe you are reading the tag incorrectly...my 2000 4x4 Excursion (which is literally and F250 SUV) has the 2v V10 and is still factory rated to tow 10,000lbs.
@@joer5057 I'll double check, but everything I found was saying 8600. Thanks for the heads up Joe!
This number is from the bumper also, not in the bed, so when pulling a fifth wheel or a gooseneck you will have quite a bit more capacity.
@@masonwoodward9758 thanks for the additional information!
6:52 I havent got my hands on an F250 yet but almost did get a 2004 F250 V10 and missed it by minutes and someone else got to it. My truck is an 03 F150 5.4 but I love it. Lift is like 4 or 6 inch lift and 33's but its perfect. Gas mileage is not bad, 10.8 mpg but whatever its got power and is tall. Mud tires are pretty good and already used to the road noise and kinda prefer it hahaha over my car thats like suuuuper quiet inside and tight steering. Love the bald eagle references lol
Good added points I appreciate ya checking out the vid!!

"The v10, you might not see those again in the future" They were in production until 2019.
Truth!
Yes but not in your typical passenger vehicles
Tim Hoppin a heavy duty truck isn’t a typical passenger vehicle.

I'm in the market for the best SUV ever made, a Ford Excursion. What are your thoughts on the 5.4 L V8 as the engine of choice?
The 5.4 is a solid motor and great if you're gonna be towing. I'd recommend it. Stay on your maintenance and it'll treat you well.
Oh, what's the difference in fuel economy, between the 5.4 V8 and the 6.8 V10?
I dont recommend an earlier 5.4, nor the earlier v10s cause they had cam phasers problems, they would shoot out spark plugs and all sorts of other things. They both do it because the v10 is just the 5.4 with 2 extra cylinders. After 05 they had fixed most of the issues though
Love my v10- it has some balls !
Love to hear it!
Good on ya for keeping this big ole girls alive and well there good buddy.
🍻
Woooow!!!! Im looking for an 04' what are the power figures for one of those?
Sorry for the late reply! 325 horsepower and 560 pounds-feet of torque
@@LJsGarage The 2V V10 is 325 HP/425 TQ and 3V V10 is 362 HP/457 TQ.
I just bought a 2005 v10 a few days ago and I adore it! The problem I have, is the dmv wants to tell me the cat is after market and put tampered on the smog!!! This thing was never tampered with, the guy just didn't see the number. They weren't required until 2009! But...I paid only 7k with 80k miles. I still got a good deal.
Wow that sucks! But luckily not too expensive of a fix. Hope this truck treats ya well! 🙌🏿
7k! How many miles?
@@dfy 80k! She's still running strong with zero issues :) I haven't reached 100k miles yet.
V10 towing capacity 12,500 to 16,500 lbs
I have the 2008 F350 4x4 Lariat Crewcab v10, its awesome!
Great ride!
Wonder what the difference is in the 350 vs 250 if both have a v10 noob here be kind
@@demerclopez2622 Mine has the three valve 6.8V10 375hp, maybe the 250 has the 2valve. Mine is the superduty and has every option from the dealer, sunroof, step on reargate, media console, towing package w extender mirrors, preset seat buttons etc.... I love this truck. White with Goodyear trailrunners. White AreA cap with lockable windows, lights, brakelight, window screens and able to carry 500lbs on the roof. It's kind of hard to find these things which means nobody likes to let them go...I have had no problems, 174K miles. We tow a 26' travel trailer with dual slide-outs @ 8000lbs. Best of luck!
The 4.3 gears are alot better at acceleration.
I've heard that before. That's a good note to add, I appreciate the comment 👌
My dad used to have 2010 toyota tundra with 4.30 gears and a 6 speed. Idk what it is but that truck accelerated so hard.
Its not goin anywhere because of the big ass tires and lift. It’s probably set up for towing anyway with a stock ass motor
Yeah a few others mentioned that as well so thanks for the comment that makes a lot of sense!
are you sure you were to the floor in the one clip? My family had this same exact truck (crew cab) and I swear it’ll move a little quicker than that! Lol
Lol scouts honor I did, then again any 0-60 time in the 8.5-9s is going to feel slow to me. But the 1st Gen raptors were doing 0-60 in about 6.5-7 seconds so you figure at the time for a truck that was nuts, any other pickup would be somewhere around 8s, still respectable!
Exactly, that was kinda embarrassing to watch lol. My 2002 f350 crew cab long bed with the v10 is much much quicker and that’s with the older 2v with less tq and hp
I was lookin at new trucks all makes couldn't touch new one for under 100k so that was not an option. Found a 2012 f650 with 12foot flat bed in it setting in a field, paid 2500 for it because guy put new motor in it at 450k said old one using alot of oil then he they loaded it 30lbs and burned tranny up i put a new tranny in it after verification of new motor. Been driving it 1 year love it,found a tune place had it tuned and by all means its not a race truck but if you punch mine like he did your asshole will suck seat when that f650 jumps to 65mph in just a few seconds. Its tuned at 550 hp and 500ftp torque i get 10 mpg if i keep my foot out of it 8 in the city. It used to shut off at 75mph now it has no limiter on it and we pushed it one night coming back to Houston on i10 115mph pulling a trailer.
I appreciate the thoughts man f650 is a whole lot of truck
@LJsGarage it really wasn't my first pick but I had about 15,000 saved up before trucks started costing more than a house.. I put 18,000 into the 650 and took a wrecked king ranch and made a really nice truck outta both and it's paid for.
"Payment Princesses" lol. I own a 2003 Ford (not particularly brand conscious, or loyal though. It just happened to have the look/capability/track record that suited me.) truck and wouldn't consider anything newer. I even bought an identical, parts truck to rebuild all the major components and install them in my truck (just to keep the downtime minimal). As for the truck you featured in the video, IMO, the lift and the big tires were detriments not assets.
Agree with you on the setup for "speed" and "performance". I am with you though I never have been brand loyal when it came to trucks. Thanks for stopping by!
Maybe you have bad tune bad Exhaust set or low pressure because my 1999 v10f250 4x4 hits way harder than that
I think that was it for sure. I rode in one similar and it was movin!

Heck yeah ✌🏿
Not a big fan of Fords but this is a beautiful truck
I agree! It's actually for sale 👀 and if I had space I'd jump on it but then again I love diesels
Gas mileage goes down and towing becomes more difficult when you get it lifted.
True!
My 06 v10 is rated to tow 14000 lbs.
Thanks Pat!
Whoever owns that truck, probably didn't re-gear after the lift and tires. I've driven a V10 F550 1.5 ton truck, and with the 4.88 gears it pulls like a diesel. That truck might have 4.10's or even 3.73's, so a jump to 4.88 or lower will bring it back to stock tire acceleration or better.
That's a good point man and probably what the answer is. It definitely did not feel right but I had no reference since that's the first v10 truck I've driven. Diesels I've been in plenty and this specific one wasn't even close. Thanks!
Its an almost 7 litre ohc v10. I wouldnt normally say this but, let her sing.

Enjoy it man! These are cool
I did that when I was 18....worst mistake I've made to date lol once one flake of rust starts. Its game over. Keep it cleaned and get it coated.
You are a L🤥R the V 10 makes 310 hp !!!!!!
Oh
had a uhaul with this v10 in it, useless engine in my opinion. would have rather had my 2000 chev 2500 with the 6 vortek.. but i ended up with the v10 which was useless for power/towing.... 6.2 v8 ford engine would have been a better choice for towing, but it is what it is . v10 has more torque but doesnt use it at all with the gearing the trans computer uses. 6.2 v8 has more HP, a bit less touque but would still out perform the v10 POS... just a pile a trash the 6.8L is. climbing a hill with a load and a trailer with the v10 is a joke, if the trans shifts down to any gear, all that happens is the engine makes a bunch of more noise, with no additional power. Good job having a big 6.8 v10 that doesnt offer any real power for towing. for a 6.8 v10 you would expect more, but you'd be wrong.
Thanks for that input Ryan! You explained that very well! Couldn't agree with you more.
Why would you pick the 6.2? It has less torque then the 6.8? That would have been the f53 chassis so 320 hp and 460 lb/ft compared to 385 hp and 430 lb/ft remember horse power is how fast you hit the wall and torque is how far you take the wall with you.
You may want to acquire some real world experience towing with something other than a Uhaul rental you obviously don’t have a clue . If you still feel so confident in your 4.3 v6 look me up, and be prepared to lose some $$$$.
I had a 2001 ford f350 v10 used it for 20 years before it broke only towed trailers filled with masonry trash it’s a great truck when maintained horrible on gas though but who cares
