    One thing i admire about high Se users is the way they always seem confident in their ability to just handle whatever gets thrown at them with minimal preparation. Seems like the most "streetsmart" function. I guess Ne can kind of do that too but it needs more time, it´s not necessarily good at coming up with things instantly.

      I'd say Se is comfortable in physical frameworks and Ne in metaphysical frameworks.

      @@NoblenoobTM Exactly. I find that high Ne is able to imagine how ideas would fit together, even when there isn't necessarily a lot of concreteness to the discussion (future oriented). They do call Ne the "brainstorm" function sometimes, as users of Ne tend to like to play with different possibilities and ideas.

    Se is the ability to manipulate and observe the physical realm (or at least manipulate oneself to fit to it) to make your path through the world (Ni). Se adapts to the present, connect the present to their personal future. Se lives in the present and the personal unconscious.
    Si demands to be comfortable and it does by knowing how others are making there path through the world (Ne) and remembering experiences so they can connect personal past with the future of others. Side effect of this is falling to the abstract realm. Si lives in the past and the collective unconscious.

    And then there’re those us with inferior Se and demon Si having to check to see what we’re wearing when someone compliments our shirt. The way you describe Se is also interesting because it sounds a lot like symptoms of my ADHD. I wonder how type theory would fit alongside mental conditions like this, because I’m an INTJ with ADHD and it’s like this ESFP “monster” side of me is continually trying to upend my life (oh but I want it NOW! Oh GOD I’m so BORED! Routine? Might as well just shoot me now!). It makes things interesting but it drives Ni and Te nuts (if we’re personifying, here).

  • @solarisan_

    The style of communication when one uses Se/Ni (Ni/Se) vs Si/Ne (Ne/Si) differs. While the first ones’ seek certain brevity in delivery, or simply ask: What is the point?, the second group does like to go into details and connect one story to another one (that might seem random to someone even if it is not). To understand any function better, perhaps it helps to reduce it to a single notion and build the knowledge from there. Go back to what S stands for and what the added I and E add to the function. Also, cognitive functions are a filter through which we process information. They can influence behavior, but certain types can show similar tendency, so it might be helpful to figure out which 4 cognitive functions one has in their main stack, rather than only focus on 1, or 2. I have sent this video to a friend to watch it, and she said: I see myself in both. And although she does know her type, sometimes explaining one function at a time is beneficial only when we move on to explain the other ones, so people can precisely know what comes from where. All 4 functions in the main stack have certain influence on each other. However, to understand any human being better, one doesn’t have to use cognitive functions in case they seem complicated to understand. Listening intently and understanding people even if their approach differs from ours, can help in forming closer relationship with people. And I am not sure if this helps, but since I saw it was confusing for my friend, it might be so for someone else, as well. Se seeks novelty in the sensory world. Ne seeks novelty when it comes to ideas. And if one has Ne/Si (Si/Ne) in the middle, their approach will highly likely be a mix of following routines/going into details vs seeking novelty in the realm of ideas and connecting those.

    • @solarisan_
      @solarisan_ 2 роки тому +3

      @@ethanlynch8275 I think the best way to figure out one's personality type is by understanding ourselves. If one finds it challenging to figure out Se and Si, perhaps it could help to see if one uses Ni or Ne. Have you tried that?

    • @ethanlynch8275
      @ethanlynch8275 2 роки тому

      @@solarisan_ I’m not sure of that either. There’s multiple ways to look at the observing functions - is NE just mental variety? Is NE a matter of understanding perspectives? Is NE a random word/sentence generator? Is NE a matter of conceptual or set-piece rearrangement?
      Ni of course is the part of the Se-Ni circuit that formulates a conclusion after Se gathers information. They’re straight forward. You could also look at Ni as a coalescing of various datapoints into one conceptual structure, but that entails roughly the same shape.
      Ne however you can take a million directions.

    • @solarisan_
      @solarisan_ 2 роки тому

      @@ethanlynch8275 I don't know if this will help, but I will try to simplify things. What N really stands for is ideas (for both Ne and Ni). When one uses Ne, the process of idea exploration can be quite visible. There will be some "jumping" from one idea/possibility to another one. Ni does the same 'chaotic' process on the inside. Connects ideas/possibilites internally, and because of it, it can come across as 'more collected' externally. Se and Si are different sides of the coin called senses. The focus of Se is external, so engaging in activities that indulge the senses can feel energizing. Si, very much like Ni, needs stabilizing when it comes to the external world. Having a mom and brother who have Si in their main stack (as their 3rd function), I have noticed that they remember details of previous situations. For example: my brother was eating a candy when he said that the package and the taste of it reminded him of childhood. He actually went more into detail of how and why. My mother often explains situations that had happened by connecting stories with details of people/circumstances that I have long forgotten. These are mostly things she subjectively sees as important. Oftentimes, I have heard of Si been called memory, but I think there has to be further clarification on it. Si, in a way, interprets the sensory world and connects such interpretations to one another. So, in that case, it is indeed memory. Honestly, I am not sure if this helps you. I am trying to summarize something that is complex and can come across differently based on how one uses a function. Perhaps reading on cognitive functions can help. Or, try to figure out your Enneagram, Socionics,... it can be a roundabout way to get to know the cognitive functions you are using.

    I feel like my perspective (INTP) is not super helpful, since Si is my third function. I do learn from mistakes, because I am terrified of making mistakes, but I also don’t like to focus on the past. Well, my past. I love history and stuff like old movies and music. I do love change and I like to constantly entertain myself. I have pretty high Ne for an INTP though.
    My ESFP sister with that Se, she always suddenly decides to do something and gets mad at me if I’m not ready to go in 10 minutes. I need time to waffle around and get out of my pajamas.
    Sorry, 4am ramblings.

    • @tubax926
      @tubax926 2 роки тому +10

      As an ENTP, I do learn from mistakes, but sometimes I dismiss that mistake as a minor failure and try solving the problem from another angle using the same method. Until I am satisfied with experimenting, I will probably make the same mistake a few times due to some clumsiness. Once the entire ordeal is done, my Si will lock that experience in place and I hopefully won't make these mistakes again. I did notice my Si is very relatively developed, so it kinda hurt my progress in relating to other ENTPs.
      I'm also not really excited to have someone to tell me to go in 10 minutes. I need to make some preparations and check the things I need to check because I know there's a very good chance I might have forgotten something important.

No one that would live to tell about it anyway, lol. Okay, that's silly... I'd just decline the offer... Unless I was feeling spontaneous, which happens once every decade or so, lol. Hey, even Vulcans have Pon Farr!

      Your first paragraph describes me perfectly. I am exactly the same. I love history, 50’s film musical, jazz standards, old towns and ruins. But I don’t wish to go back in time to be 20 or 30 again. Whatever path I chose or chosen for me it’s done and over. I learned from past events to help defining what’s essential for me.
      I wonder if you are like me about relationships. In the past when I fell for someone romantically, it was intense and seemed out of my control (kind of terrifying tbh). In the back of my mind I felt ridiculous and immature but couldn’t change a thing. When it was over, I moved on emotionally and didn’t care to rekindle (those reconnect via FB years later and get married will never happen to me). I do will all my exes having a good life, but it is not possible to “fall in love” with them regardless how much I had liked them in the past.

    • @freregregoire2685
      @freregregoire2685 2 роки тому +9

      Another INTP here, and there's something familiar here...
      I also don't really care to focus on my past, I don't really care for nostalgia, it's not really a feeling I do or even understand, and there's certainly lots of things where my attitude is very "I've done that, I'll never need to do that anymore".
      Yet I do have a reasonably good memory (so when asked about some past event, can often remember stuff...if it was something I noticed in the first place) and Si allows a certain amount of automation: there are lots of things where I have figured out the best way to do them and so I just do them like that without really thinking (and might get annoyed if for some reason this way was somehow blocked). So yeah, there's certainly plenty of that Si activity going on, but mainly on the less interesting stuff like food and clothes (yeah, INTP).
      For the more interesting things, that Ne needs new ideas (though I guess Ne-Si also works for finding new insights for the same things: the activity stays the same but me, I am not the same).
      Another MBTI commentator also suggested that Se is more in touch with the "regular" senses like sight, hearing, touch but Si is a lot more in tune with internal experiences like hunger, fatigue, comfort...which also sounds about right :)

      I am partially confused about these functions .
      Sensing and intuition is how one takes in information.
      So Se types take in information by from the world around them and what’s their five senses can detect in their environment who adapt to changes because their senses are in tune with what’s happening while Si is observant of what is happening inward and takes in information inwardly such as being in touch with their body, feelings, thoughts and personalised experiences but Se priorities taking in information from the sensory world and then sharing their experiences with others but Si likes to take in experiences, subjectify and personalise them with thoughts or feelings and keep them to themselves as Personal collections to analyse further and make them last but Se just likes to experience and then give it away and don’t care care about what legacy or accomplishments or goals their experience leave im guessing

      Interesting perspective. I am the opposite yet I share the same type with you. When I say opposite I mean: I need to know why something has happened and learn from it. I am never really satisfied with: it happened. And the goal of Ni is kinda to reverse the process to Ne. Or, to put it simply: notice that there is more than one star on the sky, quickly realize that others are seeing just part of it, try to narrow it down to the side others are seeing, then point out at what is missing. However, I have noticed that Enneagram (which talks about childhood trauma, fear, motivation, communication style,…) does have an influence in how we present ourselves and react in situations. Personally, I do speak my mind. But that Enneagram 1 might be the reason why.

    Stray thoughts:
    1. As with every function, how Si manifests will depend somewhat on what other functions it's working with. In an Fi-Si type like mine, the main things Si is trying to preserve are identity, things with personal meaning, and a sense of cohesiveness in our personal journey. Whereas, for example, an Fe-Si type might be more inclined to preserve social values, norms, and traditions.
    2. You mention Se taking things in by osmosis; I once saw an INTP describe themselves as taking in information osmotically, and I relate to that as an INFP. I think Se and Ne are both kind of like this, with the concrete and the abstract, respectively, while Si and Ni seem to process new information more slowly and systematically.
    3. I've noticed people tend to overassociate Se with any kind of physical skill, including in the artistic/aesthetic realm. I've seen discussions on Personality Database where people assumed an artist or musician must be a type with Se because they were so technically skilled. And that is such an unreasonable assumption, especially given how frequently NFPs are also inclined toward these things and skilled at them.
    As an INFP, I've always had a natural facility with artistic things of all kinds, in a way that I decidedly do not with most physical things. It's a realm that feels completely different from most of the physical realm; it's very intuitive, and it's strongly tied to Fi. I'm also very perfectionistic when it comes to art and aesthetics and have put a lot of effort into attaining technical mastery there.

      In regards to your #4, my husband (ISTP) and I (INTP) were discussing having an ability to do something physically could come from a few times of trying it, happening to get it right, and having the muscle memory of doing it, so being able to do it naturally and effortlessly thereafter. "For an INTP" I'm actually quite good at a lot of physical things including sports, art, music, construction, etc. And I'm a girl (which doesn't mean anything, except stereotypically). Once an Si person knows how to use their body parts in any given way, they will pretty much always be good at that thing, even if it took a few tries in the beginning, or, as in my case (like yours) with Ne being above Si, if a lot of time has passed since last doing said thing, it doesn't take long to get the skill back. A few swings of the tennis racket, a few strums on the guitar, etc. Maybe an Se person is good at physical things for different reasons. It does seem to me that Se dom people might ENJOY doing physical things more (or not feel a fuss about it... possibly because they're not really thinking about doing it, they just do it). I personally sometimes like the IDEA of doing something, but then actually doing it is another story, lol! It's like, when actually I have to get up off my butt to do the thing, I don't really want to. However, once I do get going, I'm usually fine and momentum takes over. I definitely take a lot of time to think about the doing before actually doing. I agree with Nathan's point on Si wanting quality physical experiences. If I've going to expend my precious physical energy, I want it to go well! ;) I think Se people think about what they're doing WHILE doing it. Si people are more likely to think about what they're gonna do before doing it, and then think about other things while doing it... unless that's just people with Ne above Si or even Ni above Se. There could be a scale. Se is known for being present in the current moment, so does that mean only people with Se in their first or second have no trouble staying in the present moment?

    Here's a possibly interesting set of data points. As someone with Se trickster I often become aware too late that my voice has risen to an uncomfortable level when discussing an exciting topic in public. My Si child makes me acutely aware when someone has moved the seat of my vehicle (even slightly) and I instantly complain like the 'Princess and the Pea'. -- My wife has Si Trickster and becomes forgetful of where she leaves things unless she writes it down or documents it in some way. She has a habit of never leaving things in the same place twice. Her Se child becomes bored quickly and she must constantly be doing something. When playing video games, this combination often results in her running off and getting lost and forgetting where she is and is fine with this. When I play video games, I'm very meticulous, making maps and making sure things things are in their place. We sometimes laugh about at how this frustrates each other's play style but often works out in a sort of "best of both worlds" sort of way, each covering for the other's weakness.

      INTJ is Ni Te Fi Se
      Introverted intuition
      Extraverted thinking
      Introverted feeling
      Extraverted sensing
      You might feel more Si than Se because Si can resemble Ni in some ways. I think of Si as the organization of the sensory and Ni as the organization of the conceptual. So they are both organizational, focused, routine, possibly even determined. Also, our 4th function is considered our "inferior" function, so that would explain why you would not be able to see the Se in yourself so much.

      I said that while also hesitating. I appear to be a total contradiction because while I can be habitual and routined in some things, I also do shake up my environment very often. I moved 10 times in 12 years just to have a new apartment to design. I do the same with people. I love strangers and prefer to have the new encounter and never get to know them well, as time is valuable, but I also deeply appreciate the consistency the few close people portray as I give them the same consistency. INTP here and idk if this resonates with other INTPs. So that means i have Ne auxiliary and Si tertiary.
    Si to me works like this, and I just recently realized this, like 3 weeks ago when I was out of town that was somewhat new to me (i visited the town in my childhood but forgot about it by the time I visited it again like 3 weeks ago):
    I gradually acquire experiences by familiarity. Forgive my English.
    anyway, as I went on a trip to that town (along the way to that town), I noticed how similar things were to my hometown. The roads, streets, buildings, etc etc. It felt like a déjà vu. Even the area of my family's residence looked so similar to the area where my Pastor used to live.
    I don't pick up data in the moment. When "in the moment", i won't be focused on the things around me or my environment. I will be focused on my thoughts. So i think I pick up details in my environment subconsciously (because I don't necessarily intentionally pay attention to the things around me) when I am in the moment, to be used in the future.

    My primary and tertiary functions are Ne/Si respectively (primary Ti, inferior Fe).
    Makes sense, the part about making a map, that'a why it takes me some time to make a story. I want the story to be deep, that the research in history and culture shows. That... leads to me making the big picture fantastic and grand... and then it's time to get to the details of the everyday experience I created... but suddenly it's a drag. So frustrating.
    But then the part about Si relating to the past came up. Oof.
    Usually when I make a big mistake I'll be beating myself up for quite some time and get sad ans stuff until I push it all into the trash bin. Too much dwelling on the past and my own stupidity, keep moving forward until next time. Because apparently with all Intry to learn and absorb, I simply cannot process the most basic development to avoid the same mistake later on. Tsk 😞
    I prefer quality over quantity, hence all the time I dedicate to perfect the few projects I have. Hey, another reason for the typical INTP procrastination!

      There are many reasons why someone would do this. I would say it could be an Ni OR Si thing. And because there are many reasons why people do what they do (it's not all 100% related to the strengths of our cognitive functions or order of the cognitive functions) that means it really could be any of the 16 personality types. Because even someone with Ni or Si as their inferior function, there is still a reason they are doing what they're doing. And never underestimate the ability for a past trauma (consciously known to them or not) to affect someone's current behavior, no matter their type. This is just one clue in the giant puzzle that is this person. I will say though, that based on personality type generalities, it is less likely for an ESFP to do this than an ISFP.

Long before I even knew about cognitive function, I've been "throwing problems in the basement" to get worked on intuitively. another . Conscious intent of Si . Intent is always conscious . We can speak Subconscious intent yes yet the purpose of word Intent implies conscious , and Se user decides in condition to being stimulated . Si user is deciding based on Introverted preference/ belief . Because Si is linked to subconscious . Whatever is there is individually there . Conscious intent can be way different to Subconscious because consciously you are free to choose . And Si is preferring memory sourcing the perception and determining reality . Even Si can consciously decide different . Se prefers the external condition because its External and S means 5 senses . Why ? well we are designed to be influenced with reality and cooperate with external life surrounding our illusion . I call it being open when I compare it to Si because Extroversion is balancing with Introversion . Yet The Se and Si are not comparable because they heave different function and linkage to other Cognitive Functions . Like a boat and car to travel , one is for water not the other to compare . INFJ has Se, but as their inferior function. This is the same as my type, INTJ. For us, we have Se, but it's usually pretty underdeveloped. Right now, in my mid-30s, I'm working to try and be more present in the moment, "being" rather than "doing," have fun, connecting to nature and my surroundings through my 5 senses, and experiencing pleasure through the physical without overdoing it. I'm no expert, but this is what I've gathered can help us Se inferior types to become more well rounded, healthy individuals. Not sure any of that is true in a generalizable way (MBTI validity and reliability of all types is actually pretty low, tbh), but for me personally, it does seem to be a good short hand for areas of strength and needs for improvement. Since ur an intuitive this analogy might help.
      Se si ne ni are how we take in information or what we take information from and how we think and process.
      Se like to take in information from the sensory world which are the details of the external environment such as fashion, cars, trends and are observant to the details and their five senses can adapt to change and things that are fleeting. For Se it’s all about taking in and sharing collective experiences with the world.
      Introverted in mbti means “inward focused and keeping things to yourself and for yourself” so it’s as if u are living in ur own bubble when u use an introverted function.
      For Si they like to take in experiences and sensory details from the external environment and personalise it to their thoughts and beliefs if they are a thinker, or their feelings and connection to it if they are a feeler.
      They often like to take in experiences and I’d say that they’d prefer to keep them as trophies or add to their personal collection or stash that is only important to them usually.
      For isfj, their experiences hold sentimental value that they would rather keep and analyse then try to get rid of by sharing.
      For istj their experiences are viewed as life lessons that have a lasting legacy and they are very goal orientated people, because istj and isfj are all about things being long lasting and stable, Si like tradition so inferior Si (enfp and entp) can appear erratic and wishy washy people who aren’t grounded in reality and lack the pragmatism and lack goals because they jump from idea to idea from perspective to perspective

    • @YourMom-iy6cv
      @YourMom-iy6cv Рік тому

      The way I see it if ur inferior Si, instead of waking and processing in a linear function by continuing to walk in one line to one destination, you’re all over the place and constantly switching sides and wishy washy behaviour I think and
      About infj, inferior Se means that ur Ni clashed with Se and how that plays out is that Ni takes in information from theories concepts beliefs ideas ideology, information that is “what if?” Rather than “what is?” all that and internalises it with a personal bias that believes in their insights and truth over all the other possibilities.
      intuition and mbti is al about simplification to process things better that requires the ability to not just take in things how they are but make an interpretation of it. Ni believes in one interpretation and one right and one wrong, Ne believes there are many right answers and many wrong answers.
      Ni will take in information and judge for themselves whether they want it or don’t and will only take what they want or need, Ne will take in theoretical information and trade their judgements and interpretations by leaving it open for interpretation, they will share their beliefs and perspectives and also take in others while Ni will not care what others think and keep it to themselves and for themselves.
      Ni can clash with Se because Ni can be very stubborn and deep rooted into their beliefs that they struggle to try new things unless they can find a purpose to it.
      Intuitives often crave meaning but Ni can be less open as they tend to be judgy before trying something new. Ni get into the trap of Being stuck in their own heads and overthinking what’s going to happen before trying it and that annoys Se because they prefer to try first and think later.

      @@LizzMo INTP. I have never liked crowd or going out, prefer to stay in the head space. Traveling in a city setup is exciting yet exhausting. Ne is there to help my brain work thru the new idea or subject. If I was a Ne dom I’d be more comfortable in a group, talking to ppl, or more spontaneous.

    How can it come that you have such a multifaceted, individual and complex way of understandig every personality? I can understand that one can recognize the types and categorize them with a handful of information, but I woundn't expect someone to know about the darksides, especielly not when these parts often are put under the radar.
