    Ive been following your exercises. TKR 8 weeks ago. I have a full range of 140° in my knee now! I can't believe how quickly my range of motion has improved. I had normal range prior to surgery so that is my goal. I used a cooling pressure sleeve "game ready" for 4 weeks. I didn't have any swelling at all!! It was the bedt device ever, and definitely recommend using one

    Thank you so much for this exercise as I just had a knee replacement on Oct. 30th. I still have to bend my knee further back as I'm not on 90% yet. I've been going to PT to help me get my knee to full flexion. Sometimes it's still a little painful. I appreciate any exercise that will help me.😊

      @@MovewithDrMike Thanks for responding and asking the question about what I would like to see. Since I am brand new to your channel, I haven't seen any other videos yet that you have done. I'm in the middle of big winter storm preparation here in Central Kentucky. With that, I'm anticipating not being able to go to the gym for a few days. I just bought resistance bands, so if you've not done any videos with safe exercises using resistance bands for those with osteoporosis, I would appreciate content on that. Thanks!

    Neck posture and core engagement, I focus too much on using my arms and have trouble around the lock out point - I've made great progress on the muscles around my shoulder blades but I'm still weak there when I dead hang because I strengthen using dumbbell rows on an incline bench and I never engage those muscles under my whole weight in the same verticle direction - thinking of buying bands so that I may fail these muscles properly across the whole ROM in the right direction and remove resistance until I'm doing full strong pullups

    • @MovewithDrMike
      @MovewithDrMike 16 годин тому

      Thanks for watching! Dumbbell rows on an incline bench is one of my favorite exercises but I understand how much harder the vertical pulling with your bodyweight can be with pull-ups. Bands could definitely be helpful in helping you move through greater range of motion…I’m also a big fan of toe spot pull-ups to allow your feet to assist with the movement vs relying on bands. Building more back strength through ring rows is also very effective and a great skill to translate over to pull ups!

    My surgeon offered to do my other knee 5 months after my first, i decided to leave it at least a year and glad i did as i still have issues 10 months on, still get pain on the inner middle area of the knee, still find i can't get the degree of bend i expected and need, for example to ride a bicycle with confidence, the knee in general especially after a couple of days at work (manual job on feet all day 12 hour shifts) feels really horrible, to be honest although the unoperated knee is bone on bone i am put off having it done altogether, very disappointed to say the least.

Don’t be discouraged though because some of my patients didn’t feel 100% recovered until after a year! This recovery can be long especially if you’re someone that has to continue to do manual work as an occupation. Wishing you the best!

    I agree with everything, I had a total knee and recovered quickly, I was expecting the worst pain! My pain was very minimal, I did well with PT 7 weeks and was back to work in six weeks, I suffered with my knee fir 3 yrs because of my insurance, I was limping and my quality of life was getting bad, as soon as I got Medicare I had my surgery! It changed my life is all I can say (: I would recommend the robotic procedure!

    would it not be better if you put the yoga strap around the ball of your foot and pull it in toward you as you dont have much leverage near the joint as you prescribe? I'm 2 weeks post op (partial inner ZUK replacement)

    • @MovewithDrMike

      Thanks for watching and for taking the time to ask this question! Great question. The strap is placed at the top below the knee cap to help specifically facilitate a posterior glide of the tibia on the femur. This is considered a gentle joint mobilization that many people can do on them selves. This technique is designed to help improve knee arthrokinematics with knee flexion (bending) further improving your range of motion.

      Thank you for watching! It’s very difficult to explain what might be going on without a thorough evaluation. There is a high likelihood that you could be dealing with some joint stiffness that could be improved with a regular weekly mobility program focused on increasing your hip and knee range of motion.

    The majority of the swelling and pain was gone after three weeks and I could walk normally around the house, climb the stairs and peddle a bike, however go for a walk outside, for any length of time, requires crutches. If you walk too much or do too many exercises then it's your sleep that's effected. I'm beginning my fourth week and every night while trying to get to sleep the sharp pains still radiates up from the foot to my knee then and on to my hip. Which means I have to take the hated codeine with it's side effect of constipation, meaning a laxative which screws up your bowel movements and even effects your stomach, sometimes nausea. It's not just the pain in your knee that wears you down it's the knock on effect of everything else.

    Can one use a cane AND a walker (not at the same time obviously)?

    • @MovewithDrMike
      @MovewithDrMike 5 днів тому

      Thanks for watching! My recommendation is to first begin on the front wheeled walker since it’s more stable and will allow you to have more support while you’re getting the hang of putting more weight on the leg. Then as you build more strength and balance you will be able to transition to a cane. There are exceptions and sometimes I have my patients who need to walk short distances between tight spaces around their home which is when a cane can be appropriate. But early on this should ONLY be for very short distances to prevent yourself from overdoing it too early after recovery! Hope that helps!

    61, male, TKR on 12/23/2024. Wow.. and owww! 6 days out and I had some good parts and some bad parts. The good parts are that I can do all my toilet stuff myself, and I can stand and sponge bathe reasonably well using washcloths and cleaning wipes. I was able to use just a cane to walk 200+ feet at PT post-day 4. Not much pain at all. Surprised. Bad parts are that I paid for that PT walking, stretching and showing off to my wife with a leg that swelled up so tight I thought the stitches were going to pop. Could not bend it at all. Stayed elevated all night, with almost non-stop 50-55 degree F cold machine running (I'd turn it back on for its hour-long cycle several times during the night). An entire day later, the swelling subsided by about 20%, then more. Almost back to 'normal swelling' now. Therefore, walking any distance right now might be a recipe for acute swelling and pain to return. But you won't know until you try it, and then yes, it will be too late. I'm looking forward to the day when I won't be punished with painful swelling every time i stretch and walk. Maybe next week.

    I am almost 3 months out from surgery. These are all excellent points. I pretty much followed what information I was given. I'm not in any rush but sometimes it seems like will I get past this part and you do. I'm coming along nicely. I also had an excellent PT person who nugded me just the right amount. The knee bend is crucial in the first 6 weeks.

      If you’re someone that has an occupation that requires a lot of gripping I would recommend a few strategies on a weekly basis to prevent injuries and build strength in the forearm for your job: 1) Perform wrist extension stretching to lengthen the flexors of the wrist which become tight with gripping which I show in this video here ▶️ ua-cam.com/video/aSIcK8GO3t4/v-deo.htmlsi=Jf_3_wWK483pQhB8 2) Strengthen the wrist extensors with slow eccentrics and 3) Taping can also be helpful for you to use even while at work on the job!

    Had may acl and menisci done three weeks ago. I wish I had known about the pillow under the leg sooner. Woke up in the worst pain a week ago worried about elevating it and the stitches at the top of my knee and knee cap were on fire. I was so worried about getting my knee over my heart, didnt think I could leave it straight and wedged until that night lol!!

    This is a very difficult problem to cure, due to the fact that it is not an inflammation but rather degeneration of the tendon's collagen matrix.

    ACL replaced in 2000. Unfortunately, I waited way too long after injuring it, to do anything about and my left thigh atrophied over the years. I am now 16 days post left TKR of the same knee, and I am SO afraid of stretches like this. I can do this, pain free, but I am so worried that my knee is going to buckle backwards. I know I no longer have an ACL or PCL anymore and I worryy/wonder how much the new joint compensates for this. Knee is still stiff and feels weak/unstable, but improving with PT. Going to try the Tape if Doc approves. Thank you for thsi video.
