FYI Wolfpack, you can now also board lone enemy merchants and have them evacuate before blowing them up if you wish to respect prize rules. Just make sure they are unarmed first, fire some AA warning shots, and board in packed heavy in case they fight back. Also, you were still running on your diesels while underwater.
You need to buy dynamite to sink boats that way now (unless you have a perk). The gun is also pretty good at sinking lone ships. It takes a few rounds, but it works.
Big tip for the Type IIA (and Type IID even if it has larger fuel tanks); always have 2 guys helping the engineer and 2 guys helping the navigator. With the engineer, you get access to full speed and flank speed and also use 30% less fuel, and the guys helping the navigator will reduce fuel usage by a further 20%, totalling a 50% decrease in fuel usage. Very useful in the early game with the small fuel tanks on the IIA before you upgrade to the IID or the VIIB
Can only imagine the conversation on that last ship. *First torpedo duds* Crewman #1: "Did you hear that? I think something hit the ship!" Crewman #2: "You're imagining things. Someone probably dropped a wrench." Crewman #1: "No I think we were hit by something." Proceeds to argue for the next min about the sound. Second torpedo duds. Crewman #2: "You know what, maybe you have a point." Sounds alarm.
I know you're joking but you definitely wouldn't confuse it for a wrench drop. There's a whole lot of force there. A 40 knot 3400 pound torpedo is something like 15.5 million foot pounds of kinetic energy. It's gonna make some serious noise. I remember reading an incident where a USN sub hit a japanese merchant ship in the early war with a dud mk14 and the torpedo holed and sunk her. Of course I'm not saying that this is the standard result to expect, just illustrating the amount of force we're talking about here. Since shipping was mostly break bulk at the time, they might really think that some of the cargo broke free and was shifting around the hold. Which can be a pretty dangerous situation for sure.
Unfortunately it's not even close. The main issues are that it's insanely tedious compared to SH3 (things that are automated or abstracted in SH3 need to be done manually in UBOAT - the amount that you get knocked out of time compression for trivial nonsense is absolutely insane), and it's also not difficult at all, even with difficulty mods and maxed out settings. Wolfpack is a good entertainer so he can make it look fun and engaging but I guarantee he isn't actually facing a challenge. The AI are braindead, and aircraft functionally don't exist. Devs have been receiving complaints about these two issues for six years now and have done hardly anything instead focusing on graphics, crew management, new features etc. and they show no sign of changing. SH3 OneAlex is still superior unfortunately.
There is also a captain mode in the perspective menu now at campaign start where you only play the captain in first person without having access to the outside view and you only give orders with the tab menu while driving the boat from the inside and the map view.
@@sirboomsalot4902 Which means he can't get ANY of the exterior shots he needs for intro/outro. Better if he just plays like normal but keeps it FPP with captain a bit more than usual.
The reason the target speed changed in your TDC is because the torpedo speed was increased to 40 knots instead of 30. The TDC of the type II is of an older and less-advanced type than the one you're used to on the type VII. For instance, it doesn't track AOB, but also, the way it calculates a solution for a faster torpedo is by changing the target speed :)
I would like to know how aware the Frieghter captains was of Germany declaring war on Great Britain. Being out on the sea and war breaking out. If they was warned or if they just sailed into the unknown.
They were most assuredly officially advised in the open radio channels that Britain and France were in a state of war with Germany. It's not like it was sudden, they were forewarned as soon as Poland was invaded to be on their guard.
You may already know this but you need to have the diesel tech officer holding the lubricant to have it remove the thick black smoke when running on the surface, and the 2nd tier of the Type 2 boat introduces the Uzo for surface attacks.
These early torp-pistols are probably the reason for the duds. Especially the impact ones. I believe they require pretty exact angles on target, when they hit.
Honestly so excited to see UBoat back! It’s what caused me to find the channel and subscribe way back! Truth be told I can’t play the game for shit, I’m terrible even with 20+ hours in it, so watching you play fills a big void 😂

The devs know that the stopwatch is often needed in Peri/UZO, so ... 😉 The fact that the target speed on the TDC changes when the torpedo speed is changed is due to the construction and corresponds to the original TDC. 😉 This applies to both TDCs. Not only can you board or signal you plan to sink the ship….it takes a good few rounds but I have sank a couple freighters with the AA gun and armor piercing rounds. You can usually get 2-3 destroyed or abandoned with a full set of 3000.
IIRC when you increase the torpedo speed the computer calculates a similar fictional speed increase for the target so that the angle and range can stay the same as both objects just travel faster, though one actually and the other simulated.
If you're talking about sinking physics overhaul 2 (the one specifically made for the unstable branch) there is a bug where if you sink a ship in shallow waters, the ship will glitch out and stand completely vertically up when sunk, so the ship is like pointing ass up to the sky. It's funny the first few times but it gets real old and immersion breaking real quickly

Thank you for the new adventure! I'm glad to see that the new patch allows the crew to eat. I was wondering how they got along with cruises that lasted for weeks and didn't get a bite to eat. No wonder why you had issues with morale!

Yeah I see battleships and aircraft carriers in the recognition Manuel but have never encountered them. It would be cool to see more than just merchants, corvettes and destroyers with the occasional cruiser
@montgom71 I've sunk a few carriers. Especially in the Mediterranean you find them in a convoy from time to time. Cruisers as well... never encountered a battleship outside of the Scapa flow mission though.

Hi Wolfpack, another great video. Your commentary and editing are as good as your torpedo solution 🙂. I know your a busy man with all your projects but do you have a full campaign play through of Uboat planned for the future?
Just a warning, once you get to the norwegian campaign the first escort mission is kind of unbalanced. It says the troop transport will leave immediately, but in reality you will be put off-duty until the day of the invasion. And when you do actually get to the mission, it's near impossible to do with the type II. You have to sink all ships, if you let even a single corvette through it will fail the mission even though the destroyer in the convoy is supposed to be able to protect it. The reason that's a problem is that there are more ships than the type II can carry torpedoes. I recommend making your torpedoes count, you should be able to sink every destroyer with a torpedo at least, and then try to knock out the corvettes until there's only a few left, get a head of them and surface when they have just passed you, and take them out with the deck AA. That way their main gun won't be able to hit you, as it should be off to the front, and they never seem to get the idea of shooting you with the rear AA. It's still really risky, so beware.
I did manage the mission actually. It was only 1 destroyer and 2 corvettes. The first corvette attacked solo and I wat he'd a fierce gun battle between the 1934 destroyer and the corvette which was of course no match for it. I hunted down the other destroyer and corvette far away from the convoy and sunk them with 3 torps total. Guess I got lucky!
@maartenbaas8513 Oh, that's interesting. I also had a destroyer show up with 2 corvettes, sunk all of them away from the convoy, and then later another 2 destroyers with 5 corvettes showed up.
