  • From our 1st Season of Paramount’s hit 80s TV series, “SOLID GOLD”, enjoy the classic 60s group, The Shirelles, singing a medley of their hits, “Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow”, “Soldier Boy” & “This Is Dedicated to the One I Love”, arranged & produced by myself (Solid Gold's musical director and theme composer, Michael Miller - aka "Mickle"). This performance aired on March 28, 1981 and, while the videotape quality did not hold up over the years, the Shirelle’s music will live on forever!

That was a beautiful arrangement of 3 Shirelles classic songs that were already going on 20 years old at that time. Canadian singer Anne Murray and comedian Marty Cohen said some jokes, then The Shirelles were on with their medley. Dionne Warwick has stated in interviews that she had sung backup for The Shirelles in the early 1960s before becoming famous in her solo career. The Shirelles really had that girl group harmony!!! I recall their song "Mama Said." That was a good one of theirs as well. It had continued to be used in television commercials through at least the late 1990s. A real medley of classics.

Second lead singer the late Doris Kenner (famous for her lead on "Dedicated To The One I Love") does an excellent job leading the other songs main lead singer Shirley Alston Reeves lead on in her absence. She is backed here by the other original members of the group the late Mickey Harris (aka "Addie McPherson") and Beverly Lee. This is a rare treat as this is the first time I have ever seen or known of this footage and a great tribute to the legacy of this group, who always seemed to be having the time of their life when they were on stage together. Though preceded by The Chantels and a few others, it was The Shirelles who people think of when they think of when they think of the group who created "the girl group sound" and their lengthy list of hits attest to their greatness as a group. Many of their songs have not only been covered by numerous others in the business but resonate with people of all ages who know each and every word of these classics!

Ms Mickey Harris died that year though I forget what month. She looks so beautiful as does the late Doris Kenner and of course Ms Beverly Lee.
