They weren’t the first. The Bobbettes and The Chantels came before them but The Shirelles were certainly the most popular, enduring, and radio friendly than the rest of the girls of that era.
Great. Grew up with their singles since my older Sister bought these along with Dionne Warwick stuff. Early '60s. When Burt Bacharach passed away recently, a local college station had a day long tribute. Driving where i live, i hear a 'boy band' do Baby It's You. Sounded ok but think "didn't The Beatles do this?". It was them!! I hadn't heard it in 50 years or more. It was John Lennons idea to cover this and Mr Postman. The Shirelles were great. Thx for the memories.
So long ago since we heard music like this when I was a boy aged 10 sadly we have grown up im 71 Seamed time passed so Quickly singers bands music lives on when we are no more rest in peace those have passed over in death Generation will live on on on forever kind regards peter Kimberley love you all and music lovers we all support each other when push comes to shove 🙏 amen god loves his disciples
The Shirelles, One Of The Most FABULOUS GIRL GROUPS OF THOSE WONDERFUL YEARS Gone By !!! ❤️ Loved All Their MUSIC and SONGS, THEY WILL LIVE ON FOREVER and NEVER Be FORGOTTEN. !!! THEY ARE TRULY LEGENDS With Such BEAUTIFUL VOICES 🎵🎼🎶🌹🌹🌹🌹😌
I was born in 1962. My oldest sister was 16 years older than me. When i was about three, I loved Foolish Little Girl, my sister had the album. One day, she wouldn't let me play it, and in a childish rage, I broke it. I LOVED the Shirelles!
Very nice. Would love to hear more about the girl groups. They never - except for the Supremes - got the press attention they deserved, and it seems they were just considered as faceless voices.
Baby It’s You is the most haunting, heart stopping sound ever recorded! Nothing like it ever. Her voice made it! Dianna Ross’ voice like chalk on a blackboard compared to Shirley’s deep rich tones.
Will You Love Me Tomorrow is such a classic!
And timeless - it has now been covered by Taylor Swift, no less, among others, although I still prefer Carol King singing the song she co-wrote!
Fantastic group rest in peace who died will be remembered 😢for ever there music will 😅never die be forgotten kind regards peter Kimberley
Ripped off by the record companies. Typical of those companies.
One of BesT Female Groups of ALL
Time. They did it First and no one will ever be able to replace such an amazing Group 🎶 🎼 🎵

A life time of legacy… ❤❤❤
Beatles must have liked them because they covered Baby It's You on their first album.
Beatles covered the Shirelles whole sound - those backup harmonies are still there on Abby Road
Fascinating. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐🦌
I loved 'em.
Thank you! Great channel.
Thank you too!
Really enjoyed your video!!

Dedicated was a extremely underated song
