The 'Golden Era' of when these ladies, were part of an 'African / American' group of singers, Crystals, Supremes, Chiffons, 'Martha and the Vandellas', Mary Wells and these ladies. Brilliant times ........
After all these years, still three beautiful ladies with the golden voices. This 63 yr old Italian kid still remembers and loves especially these two songs.
My heart still follows My Soldier even though we have been parted by his death in Oct. 1968 in Viet Nam. He is my only love forever and always will be, I still wait for him.
Man, I actually had tears in my eyes reading this, this man was blessed by a dear lady (yourself) and he carries that love with him to Heaven and will be holding his arms out for you when God calls your name
I was in the U.S. Army when this came out, at times it would actually bring a tear to the eye! It was playing on all the juke boxes then!. Great stuff and voices!
I can't believe it was 59 years ago when I first heard Soldier Boy...at the time, the boy I was dating was going in the service the following year when he graduated, so this became our song. We went different ways, but I think of him every time I hear it, and I am thankful he came home.
I used to listen to this song when my ex husband was deployed to Viet Nam, this brings back so many years and the good times that he and I did share. I'm thankful he came home safely, and we are still remaining on a talking basis. Life is so short, treasure your fondest memories always.
Lots of great talent came out of North Carolina and particularly Shirley. Great State and Henderson is my favorite. I have seen the Shirelles many time and they never have disappointed me. Love them all they are all beauties. God Bless Dr. Doo Wop
I thank the Shirelles as their album helped me tremendously get through my tour in Europe. I wore the album out. I would fall alseep with their album playing in the barracks. Along with Roy Orbison.
They sound so good. Too bad Shirley and these ladies no longer sing together as the Shirelles. I loved these women/girls and remember them as if it was yesterday. My God, has it really been 4 decades? It is heartbreaking when you think of how much joy so many singers of that era brought to millions with their performances yet many received very little in compensation. However, they shall always be gratefully remembered in the hearts of their fans with the fondest of memories.
In 1962 i was in the British army ,i was stationed at a camp at Aldershot camp,i met a girl who was also a soldier. One day she walked into my barrack room and handed me a record and ask me to play it,that record still have today and it was Soldier boy by the Sherilles.

Old sailor (Viet-Nam vet) watching here in the Pnilippines. Fond memories of listening to these beautiful ladies 60 years ago when I was a teeny-bopper back in Minnesnowta. Boy, the music was SO GREAT back then.
Fort Ord basic training circa 1970 I would put on the local radio station to listen to in the barracks when we were getting dressed and this song came on and you could hear a pin drop as everyone listened, feeling the pain of separation from home in a special way. Timeless.
I remember driving to Fort Ord in the spring of 1970 with my friends. Two guys got into a physical fight over me. The troublemaker was drunk and became belligerent because I wasn't interested in him, and instead chatting with other sob nice guys. Thank you for your service. The years around 1970 was a difficult time for young people in the service!
@@helen5852I know 1965 was a hard year for a lot of guys. They were being drafted and sent to viet nam. I was in high school but I remember. A lot of American boys were being killed in 1965-66 over there somewhere.
@ezerlenewatkins9644 Three guys from my high school class returned in body, 2 of them were only 18 yrs old, and they hadn't been in Vietnam for more than 4 months before they were killed. Another dear family friend was also killed on Dec 12, 1969. Had I been born with a penis, maybe I wouldn't be here either! Very dark years in my book. 😥
@@helen5852 I know! That's what i think all of the time. If i would have had a penis I don' t think I would be here either. I lost a couple of guys from my class that were drafted. It was a terrible time.
This is one of their best songs and one I liked a lot to hear I remember hearing this song a lot in the radios in those days. As Benjamin Franklin said we become old too soon and wise too late.
Had the honor of meeting Ms. Beverly (the one in the middle) in 1978 when she and 2 of the other originals (Ms. Mickey, Ms. Doris). Was such an honor for for a kid like me who grew up listen to my mom and dad's music and loving it!! Thank you for memories!!!
Wow! That was great! I loved those songs then and I still love them now! Thank you so much! I'm so glad you wonderful ladies got together to sing them again for us!! Your voices were perfect (and your gowns were beautiful!). ❤️☘️🌹
