I live in Passaic New Jersey, where these young ladies came from. They graduated from Passaic High School, where they entered a talent show with a song they wrote "I Met Him On A Sunday" which tore the auditorium down. We are soooo proud of them; two are still with us Shirley Owens Alston-Reeves and Beverly Lee. Thank you to The Shirelles, for representing us so well. WE LOVE YOU!

lmao that guy at the end in the office was a complete joke. Even got him to admit it wasn't a valid signature and reacted like a clown losing control of his juggling.

The same thing happened with The Zombies from England. After they broke up several knock off groups toured the US calling themselves the Zombies and playing their songs. One of the knock off groups went on the become ZZ Top. True story.

ZZ Top was apparently a cover band. There are many cover bands out there but using the actual names of the band is where the problem arises

I think I seen the fake drifters in New Zealand around 1985, only because they performed at our local pub (hotel) because the publican was from the US. . if they were or weren't they were still awesome, pretty sure they had members in there that had been with the drifters at some time. . .

Not very factually accurate. The Chantels were the first of the era's girl groups to hit big, releasing "Maybe" in 1957. Also the Beatles recorded, not one, but two Shirelles songs on their first LP. I don't trust this guy and I'm 30 seconds in.

YOu talked about secondary facts which you are corret about. I saw this when it first aired many year ago. The main point as to this Wet 57th report had with fake oldies acts. BTW I know the area that this was filmed in. I teach a few miles from the Bronx location.

On the one hand, I don't feel well-placed as a white guy to say what is and what isn't rock and roll (a Black style of music). On the other, I don't like this white dude on the teevee calling all those groups "rock and roll" for the sake of palatability to white audiences.
