    Speak for yourself. The value of a small toothpick is determined by the needs of the person who carries it. I have found great value in mine.

    Cutting an apple, or lemon for tea, almost every day. It does what I want and is kind of different and fun. And if I'm honest, fun is the #1 reason I carry a pocket knife most of the time.

    My wife’s grandad was the police chief and potato inspector in a small farming community from the late 40’s to the early 70’s. He carried a small Ka-Bar toothpick that whole time and used it to test potatoes, fish and for general chores. She still has it with the blade sharpened to almost nothing so it definitely saw plenty of work.

    They're great for letter-opening and cutting string. I also think they're nice for small, piercing tasks. I got a REALLY nice one from Case in a Curly Maple.

    Great video and collection! Mini toothpick becoming one of my favorite pants front pocket carry dress and office tool. Light, small, no funny marks and tear on pants, no strange look as looks more like a jewel than a threat. Nice patina and classy. Single thin pokie blade Is all I need mainly for tip-work on mails, papers, envelops, (nails, staples, poking holes?), food packages and boxes. Easy two hand opening, one hand closure. Sadly, sees more use time than even my favorite larger 3.5-4” tools that need a jeans, belt or clip.

    I carried a tiny toothpick when I worked in an office. Worked great most of the time, carry a small knife as primary and a SAK as secondary. Usually Grampas old Queen Peanut. I’ve found a small knife just gets things done.

    I'm a retired carpenter and I had 20+ hammers. I used an Estwing daily but the odd time might come when you need a small double faced Japanese finishing hammer. You never know when a tiny knife could come in handy like if you find a trapped little animal with fishing net around it that little knife might be better to cut it loose. The last thing I would use it for is an actual toothpick. Thanks to you and Potato Peeler I discovered these old style knives.

    I like the tiny toothpicks because they just disappear in my pocket. So, it's an easy way to have a spare knife, and more pocket jewelry...lol
    I find that they work just fine for opening boxes, and light duty stuff.

    Great video! Thanks for the shout out! I’ve pocket carried both my tiny ADV and my baby Butterbean, but never a tiny toothpick, so I’m going to join you on this. My green RR toothpick is going to go in my pocket from today. Let’s see how it goes! First issue; fund a small enough slip.

      Slick Slicers, that’s cool. Maybe we can start a movement! Definitely an idea for an open tag event. Love your channel, especially the way you focus on legal carry in the UK. So many of your carry options are similar to the legal carry options in major US cities. Keep up the great work.

    • @slick_slicers
      @slick_slicers 5 років тому +1

      I felt there was a need for a UK legal channel. So many people do a video about the 2 or 3 knives they have that could be carried here and go on to say how awful it must be here and how many fingers you’ll lose without a lock on your knife! I set out to show that there is a huge choice available and that we managed for centuries without locks without losing any fingers!

    • @KnifeChatswithTobias

      I recall while serving in the Army just how many soldiers were pulling out huge knives just to cut tape, string or cardboard. It was kind of silly. I quickly grew out of that when I saw just how silly it was. A small pocket knife with a two or three inch blade can and should handle most daily cutting chores. The main problem with smaller knives isn't the blade so much as the size of the handle. And if a slip joint is folding up on your hand, then you're not using it correctly.

    • @slick_slicers
      @slick_slicers 5 років тому +1

      In the days before our stupid knife laws, I routinely carried a small, sub 2” lock-back knife as my ‘main blade’. I always had something bigger close at hand -in my desk, glove box etc. - but the little Silver Tern did 90% of my work. Let’s see how this goes!

    No value?Well, there is probably not a package it won't open,
    a string or bit of fishline it could not cut, an apple it would not peel, or a sliver it could not dig out. But then you don't seem to like Opinels either, so....

    • @KnifeChatswithTobias
      @KnifeChatswithTobias  5 років тому

      I’m not crazy about Opinel’s collar lock or the way friction folders work. So it is true Opinels are not for me. But in another video I recommend them as a good choice for a person’s first knife. The knives are well made and excellent quality for their price point. Nothing wrong with Opinels. They just aren’t my choice.
      I still appreciate their quality and their design features.

    I’m interested in learning of your findings in carrying tiny toothpicks! I carry them often, Case and Rough Riders. I carry a Victorinox Climber or Spartan as well as a peanut or tiny toothpick pattern for small jobs. I find lots of uses for tiny toothpicks! I have a few large toothpicks but rarely carry them. Too big for my needs. I find that smaller blades can accomplish 99.9% of what I need a knife to do. If I need a bigger knife, I always have a larger locking blade or fixed blade in my bag, car, and house.

      Booklover Piper, I agree. The bigger the job, the bigger the blade, the more I gravitate to locking blades...loving my fingers....even though in my birthplace of Hunlandia, stiffer backspring large folders are the traditional norm, rarely a locking folder...for interesting historical and legal reasons dating back to Austria-Hungary

    I wore a 3-piece suit for many years and often carried a small 3" toothpick in my vest pocket. I used it for anything a guy in a suit would need a knife for (mail, threads, packages, boxes) nothing heavy duty. I’ve been using the little toothpick for over two weeks now and I’m actually impressed with it. I’m also curious to see what others think of it. Are you referring to a blade with more belly? I think the Camillus knives have more belly in the blade. The blade is really designed for skinning birds, fish, and small game, hence the muskrat blade. The Rough Rider large toothpick has a common clip blade instead of the California/muskrat clip so it has substantially more belly to the blade. I think that is one reason why it works better for EDC. GEC's #12 (a 4 inch toothpick with a 3 inch blade also has a more hearty blade than your typical toothpick. No doubt, the toothpick is not for everyone! Thanks for dropping by and thanks for the feedback! I especially appreciate opinions to the contrary on a knife style when it is thought out and reasoned!
