    My favorite thing isn't even on the tour, it's when my brain clicked and realized that in 1904, during the World's Fair, this house was up and running in its full glory! I wonder if Mr. Brown's family took a streetcar to the Fair? Or maybe he was chauffeur-driven in one of those new fangled horseless carriages? It gives me chills! 😇 Meet me in St. Louis, Kaleb & Kim, meet me at the Fair! Don't tell me the lights are shining anywhere but there 🌟😇🌟

    And I thought my “restoration” of my 1927’s house was a lot of work…
    Kudos to Kaleb. This place is awesome. Hopefully more will be saved.

      Did you restore it to 1920s style or made it another cooky cutter house

    • @td0911
      @td0911 Рік тому

      It had been “modernized” in the 1950s so all that is gone. I’ve reintroduced all the original style mounding. There is a place in STL which still makes it to 1920s spec. This includes mounding around all windows as well as baseboard. The bathroom is back to 1920s marble and I was able to salvage the original 1927 tub. The floors and stained glass are all original. The kitchen is new but a more traditional / timeless style. With the exception of the paint schemes, I bet the original owner would recognize most of it.

      Agreed, and I appreciate them "resto-modding" it rather than remodel. It's destined to become another Campbell House or the like, thanks to these folks, and I hope they encourage others. Getting to make this film is a proud moment for me and Kaleb was very kind to oblige with a great energetic performance and I enjoyed my visit so much. Thank you for checking out my film take on their story.

    As a St Louis native, I appreciate all the love of restoring a historic home / mansion, as I am too subscribed to. The empire strikes back channel, I love the beauty in the details of older homes, specially here in the north side of downtown St. Louis, there is much more to restore there, so, maybe some more people can appreciate the landscape of this area... amazing homes, it's just ashame the city gets a bad deal for criminals and the stupid stuff they do.. Go STL Forever!!

    What you said about my Great Great Grandfather Charels sounds about right. He Started in New York and moved to Missouri. He didn't do so good in Missouri. There was no money to be made there and found better money and employment in New Jersey selling species of woods and making specialty wood items, cabinet, doors, stair cases, some furniture and moldings. That is why the Brown(E)'s moved out of Missouri. What I heard was he moved to Missouri because it was quite, beautiful scenery. "What the heck was he thinking???" There was nothing in Missouri back in the 1800'S! He did okay in New Jersey for a while until the Great Depression and went bankrupt. "WE POOR!" Family business gone! I was born and raised in New York. Lot of the Brown(E)'s still live in New York and New Jersey except for Micheal Browne in Onterio, Canada who owned a Kitchen Supply factory and sold it to CHINA in 2017😡! Not happy with him! He is now the richest Browne and a traitor. Love the tour of my Great/Great grandfathers old house in Missouri. I can't wait to see it restored. If you ever get a chance to goto New York visit the Browne Mannor in New York City and take a tour. Learn about some of the Brown(E) family. If you ever get a chance to goto Dutchess County, New York there are several old massions and 2-3 President's houses, and the Vanderbuilt Summer home in Hyde Park New York you can tour. President Woodrow's house was restored back in the 1980's, it was a difficult restoration due to paranormal activities. Some of the construction workers wouldn't go back to finnish their work.😬

      Oh it was a pleasure and an honor. He is over 265 times more subscribed right now and very nice to give this nano channel his time. I hope there is some benefit from this film to him, I feel like I'm getting all the reward and attention right now thanks to him (and his dad.) I like how the interior tour is a comprehensive overview of the story so far in a single unbroken 26 minute shot. What you see is Kaleb non-stop explaining everything in the ONLY take. He did it like a pro, I just did my best to catch it reasonably well on camera. That was my idea behind the film, and from my view it worked out incredibly well and I'm quite happy with it.
      Thank you for watching my film on this great story.
      PS- If Kaleb was in their century, we wouldn't have him to keep the house alive THIS century. ;)

It's not just a house to be restored, but it will be a home AND a time capsule I'm sure with it's rich history and the love and work Kaleb and Kim have put into it and friends of his with supporters who have assisted with history, artifacts, useful components that speak to the age of the home and its original beauty. Kudos indeed to Kaleb for all the work he's put into this. Amazing indeed.

    Wow! That's around when Australia became a Nation and Federation. From what I've seen our restorations are done differently in that things get modernised. The story is instead told in photos and books. One thing I would consider doing the house you are renovating is put the water closet under the formal staircase and make the old closet into a pantry. I would do a lot of work in the garden something I think gets overlooked in restorations and modernisation.

This particular video is a feature documentation I did for my channel, and took place in October 2021, just before they really got the electrical wiring going. I think this piece offers a nice detailed overall tour of the house up to a certain moment that we are already past, but hopefully will be nice to revisit in the future. Cheers and thanks for watching my "a bit outside view" glimpse of this great resurrection story. :)

    In my grandafathers house ( the Spring Garden Tavern built in 1852) the windows downstairs had shutters also but the were a 4 panel style and were not shuttered - the windows were deep enough you could sit in them

    When you are on the upstairs 3rd floor and looking out the window, you talk about columns. I couldn't help but to look at the surrounding area. Did all those surrounding lots have houses on them at one time? If so, were they as grand as the Brown's home? Thx!

    • @Dozenspeed
      @Dozenspeed  2 роки тому +1

      You might mean the empty lots behind the house, or the massive clearing across the street out of the front which is huge new government complex development. Either way, yes, they would have been full of houses at one point, and I think the infamous Pruitt-Igoe was located there. Some of the houses over the last century and a half were pretty fancy, but
      generally the most affluent ones were on St. Louis Ave itself. Cheers

    Interesting that the dining room is its own room, with just a door to the hallway, in comparison to most homes where the dining room flows off the living room or has a large entrance way. (Now, with open concept floorplans, the dining "area" is a table and chairs, no separate room at all.)

      Hi 24 klia, I'm not the guy in the video and this isn't my house, I'm just a 3rd party film maker who made this particular video. It was filmed in October 2021 after he had been working on it for about a year. This film contains the entire house as it stood at that time. He's still working on it with steady progress and you can find out everything and follow along on his channel:

    Anyone know why they grouped the houses so close together when they were built? Just curious

    • @Dozenspeed
      @Dozenspeed  2 роки тому +2

      I think it was just trendy to do that in cities to maximize development costs and taxes and profits per square foot. Or mowing grass wasn't fashionable yet!

    • @The2ndEmpireStrikesBack
      @The2ndEmpireStrikesBack 2 роки тому +5

      No one drove cars back when this home was built so it made the most sense to build homes closer together to allow more people to live closer to city center for jobs and commerce.

    Kaleb don't steam the paint off of the wallpaper. Christine McConnell restored original wallpaper by pealing off paint and she tried to steam a section and it ruined it. Watch how she did it as I think it will help you a lot. Those shutters are pretty common here too and I'm in Australia ☺️

      It's a 96 acre parcel that has been built and torn down about 3 or 4 times, and I think was once home to the infamous Pruitt-Igoe project. It's now going to be home to a new government operations facility, so that should stick. Thanks for watching.
