Dozenspeed is an independent film maker from St. Louis Missouri, and founding curator for the Dozenspeed Film Foundation, a modest archive of original historical video footage.
This video was funded and produced and is copyright exclusively by the Dozenspeed Film Foundation, unless otherwise specified.
The Dozenspeed Film Foundation is very grateful to artists who allow use of their music in our videos.
I think of myself as a Sentimental Video Artist, something I've never heard of but that I feel best expresses my motivation and purpose behind my video creations. The goal is to contribute to the documentation of history in some small way, while evoking emotion, memories and nostalgia for fellow humans, well enough to make a living.
The videos on this channel are for art and entertainment purposes only, no warranty is either expressed or implied. The choice of an existential tour guide is an important decision and should not be made solely on the basis of videos on this channel.
If you own or can otherwise authorize access to something you think I might like to curate footage of, document or promote, or for sponsorship and donation inquiries you can reach out to me at:

If you have a local business (with a physical location) in the St. Louis region and would like a commercial spot created for this channel at no cost to you for the sake of posterity and whimsy, please contact.
The Dozenspeed Film Foundation is also interested in supporting local musicians willing to allow usage of their work suitable to our content (primarily instrumental) for publicity under license.
Dozenspeed currently isn't on any other platforms, with no other channels. Everything is kept here for simplicity and productivity. (I have an unused Twitter for emergency fail safe purposes only)

I know I've said it before, but I worked for SnS for 13 years. Yes that long. How I made it throughout is beyond me. Left the company in 2011. While I don't wish the company well, I still find it very sad to see what it has now become. The one I worked at (Edwardsville) is facing so much competition now with several restaurants opening. Of course, it's been going on for 15 years now with that area developing. I can remember a time that SnS was the one place to go after h.s. football games, after church, etc and these days I only see 3-5 cars if any everytime I drive by the restaurant. How they stay in business I'm still wondering. Now, Sardar Biglari has been trying to re-invent the company by making it like McD's (the franchising thing) but I have yet to see its success. Two of my favorite business YT channels (Franchise City and Company Man) are not even saying positive things about it.
Anyway, thank you DS for taking us all down memory lane. Great shots

I’m rooting for this building! Though even if it reopened, I’ll admit I probably wouldn’t frequent it.

This isn't the high traffic area it once was, it needs to be destination dining.

I agree. Funny, because the one time I did go there it was because a friend said, “I really want to go to that vintage Steak N Shake.” So, it was a destination for us then.

@@td0911 I think they used to have classic car meets there, they could bring that back too. In fact, I'd say give the driver half off if they show up in a car older than (some arbitrary year like 1970)

I thought the original one was in Normal Illinois

That sounds right to me (he said without bothering to look it up 🙄) but just for the record, I wasn't trying to suggest this was the original location. 😉 Thanks for watching!

If this place doesn’t get saved, it’s going to be sad. Even if someone is able to save the signage and some parts of the interior and facade for a regional museum scene setup, that would be awesome.

I'm confident the sign will be saved at least, to not would be outrageously foolish! 😣 TYFW

For decades, Steak and Shake was The place to go for thespians. After the curtain has come down, the audience has departed and the stage has been struck, where else could still-pumped cast and crew go for a snack or meal at 2 a.m.?

Almost all of the locations in St. Charles county are open

They seem to be hanging on better in Jefferson county too. I haven't been to one in at least 5 years, and as my last visit to Freddie's that replace the Gravois Bluffs location was a let down, maybe it's time again. Thanks for watching! 🙂
