    I just watched the video of Caleb restoring one of your doors and came over on Caleb's recommendation....glad I did. It is fantastic how you, Caleb and Kim and others are buying and fixing up these beautiful old homes. I just went through most of your videos but I didn't see one on the history of your home or the family that built it. Did I miss it? I am a history nut and love knowing about those who went before. Good luck to you and your family, it's a big job but looks like you have a good team to help you out with it!

      Matt Mizell here.. I love this comment because I am so passionate about this story. Here's the deal. To properly shoot the documentary about Vahlkamp we need time and money. I dont want to under-produce it. We are trying to get monetized on YT first and get several more episodes made and then the teams dream is to shoot a documentary about Vahlkamp's life. I was a bit naïve about how much this would take to keep the 2 video a week pace. But we're going to do it.
      I'm also considering shooting some brews where I just go through the history without the beauty and engagement of the documentary, but it would provide context.

      @@MansardStudios Matt, you don't have to be all fancy with your videos - people (or maybe it's just me???) are just enjoying your saving of the beautiful home. I know it is hard work to get 2 videos out a week, don't kill yourself over it - My only suggestion is to simplify. With you (and your beautiful deep voice) telling the story and maybe showing a couple of pix is enough for most people. You can work on the fancy stuff as time allows. Just my 2 cents. Whatever you do, keep it coming!! and wishing you much luck and success!!!!

    I applaud your efforts and vision across the board. As someone who loves old houses with history I always suggest having the property 'cleared and smudged' of the old energy including new houses. There are real estate agents hiring people for energy house clearings. I am assuming you have done this.

The energy of the house is such an important aspect that has been overlooked for so long in the mainstream and I am SO extremely happy that it's becoming such a common practice. Thank you SO MUCH for his comment and for following our journey!

      @@MansardStudios Awesome JD I am very happy to hear your response as it felt cleared to me. After clanging and smudging a popular Toronto bar because the owners couldn't find a buyer, they called us back for a meeting because of the way it felt the morning after. They especially were shocked that the musty dank smell in the bsmt bathrooms was gone after their constant attempts to clear it with cleaning. I told them the 'copal' we added to the sage and cedar would flare up in the area across from the entrance so had to repeat the process a few times there also. They said the nasty former owner used to stand there choosing who he would let in. Loving your production. I thought just the fact that this house was so connected to the 'other' one through the DNA of this owner intensified everything and you fixed that so good job! BTW the bar sold shortly after.

    Wow, so much to see. All these fireplaces, every single one different and lovely to look at. From the video it was difficult to tell but could the fireplace with the brass inlays and the different stone types be a painted piece like Kaleb from The Second Empire Strikes Back has in his library. And these ceiling roses, they almost look like they should be original in that paint.
    On your attic room, please don't remove the railing, it survived all these years, about 150 like you said and it would be a shame to loose that. If you are worried about privacy you can install a sort of non see-through glass in front of it.
    Last thing that interests me is will you get most of your walls plastered again or and if not, what do you imagine you do with the brick walls ?

    • @mattmizell7340

    • @MansardStudios
      @MansardStudios  Рік тому

      Thank you so much for your comment. We are going to work with the construction team to see what creative ways we can keep the original woodwork, sometimes its a matter of keeping trim or railings.
      The plaster was falling off the walls and ceilings due to the home being vacant for so many years. It needed to go for the safety of the family. We will have to go back with drywall so it can be insulated appropriately and it is lighter weight than plaster. Plaster would also not be financially feasable.
