Love that new wavey music you got going! I've been to most malls in the STL area but I never did go to Chesterfield Mall until about a couple years ago when my nephews wanted me to take them to V-Stock, which I'm glad they got me into. I think its funny that a lot of those "dead mall UA-camrs" all rushed over to Chesterfield in the last two months to get one last shot at filming this. But getting the outside is as good as the inside of the place
This vid went under the radar
I want a Zoltar so bad for my collection. They are insanely overpriced.
Just like Pittsburgh mills… sad 😢
I'm glad that this channel exists and presents its content in the way that it does.
Yes! I dig the vibe and local focus versus so many channels focusing on brands. I really like seeing ordinary places I will never see in life. 🎉🎉🎉
A very appreciated comment, thank you. 🙂
😢 Sigh. My mom loved this mall. We went there so many times I couldn't count. Sometimes just to walk, sometimes to have lunch, often to shop. My brother had designed one of the storefronts, and we always had to walk past it and admire his work. It is sad, but I am happy for all the memories.
Being from Missouri this makes me so sad 😔
I also have fond memories of going to this mall with my mom. My brother and I would run around like animals and play hide and seek in the clothes racks and probably drove her crazy! 😄 TYFW
@@wdgbirmingham2 Well at least everyone's filming it for you! 😉 TYFW

Man, I was so hoping you’d do this video. Somehow I wish I could tag it to all the KMOV and KSDK videos covering the demo AND the Tesla storage. #tesla #chesterfield
It was actually a pretty spontaneous filming, I found my self nearby so.... I regret not going the last couple days, I debated about it all summer, but I already made my best video about it, and I have a fair bit of unpublished footage already. Still, I think this came out as a nice simple piece on it's own and the sight in the old Dillard's parking lot was an interesting bonus. 😎
My great uncle, sadly passed away on Sunday Oct 13th. Just found this video and it is incredible. He videoed my wedding and it was one of my favorite gifts. He will be missed.
I heard the sad news as well, my condolences. I'm glad you found this video, as I am glad to have made it. I hope you also found part 2, some of his best stories are in that part. Cheers, Dozenspeed
Just a suggestion, but Frank and Helen's Pizzeria will be closing in December. That would be something up your alley. I'm hoping to do a video there, but they won't let me do it when there's people eating inside.
Thank for the lead, bud. 🙂 Sounds like something could be worked out, I might go and bug them. I''d rather film without customers anyway! Looks like I missed Uncle Bills, that one is gonna gnaw at me.... Cheers
THAT Taco Bell is on a dead traffic stteet in a dying part of town, it will soon all be a ghetto filled with democrat invaders, just drive to the new Taco Bell in the prosperous and growing side of town, simple.
Whats left its sad to see
Sad to see it this way
Kind of sad that everything was gutted.
Indeed, but the interior structure was pretty ruined after the fire and the dousing of the fire, followed by months of no roof. If you find my first video of this place you can get a look at the fire-damaged interior before it was gutted. Thank you for watching! 🙂
I love old architecture. That biilding was neither too ornate nor plain. Kind of says "Midwest" to me. I live in Pennsylvania.
A lot of the talking has the volume too low. My phone volume was cranked all the way up and I could barely pick it up.
I haven't watched this one in a while, it's not so bad as I expected haha! But you're totally right, a lot of what he said was hard to make out. Total rookie stuff, it was only my 33rd video. I had no external mic and was far away, and the room tone wasn't doing me any favors! I genuinely appreciate your comment, it allowed me a moment to think about how my videos have improved with experience and upgrades. These days I would have at least boosted and equalized the sound in attempt to make it come through better. This video is so old I wasn't even color-correcting yet, much less narrating, but one the bright side one day I can take the original footage and remaster it and release it again! 🤓Thanks for watching 🙂
Wow! A St. Louis legend for sure. If you grew up in the ‘80’s in SoCo, then you knew The Basement.
And I have to say, as hard as it was to turn into that building 35 years ago, putting a gas station there will be an additional traffic nightmare.
@@JoeyMcSmokey I haven't seen any plans but I'm sure they will have to follow modern curb and traffic-limiting easement standards. The customer parking lot for Sessions would never be allowed to be built right to the edge of an unprotected corner like that these days! They might even force them to incorporate a much-needed right turn lane for Lemay Ferry Southbound. I just hope they don't add another traffic light! 😒 TYFW
LOL The Basement I grew up not far from there, The Basement smelled of patchouli and was a head shop, I got a T-Shirt to prove it, knowing I would never see it again over 15 years ago. That was a landmark building with the restaurant fixture store on first floor the Basement was behind fixture store tucked away, can you guess? In the basement of the fixture store, LOL! It was a throwback from way back in the 70s I grew up in the 80s kinda of the laid back hippy folk ran it. It was not an evil place, just different. At 16:32 mark see the steps going down, that was the way you entered The Basement hence the name....
I know why saint louis is special, most people are mentally challenged....
Come to the Brookes Park Open House December 7th, 2024 from 10:00 am-4:00 pm.
I was there probably a couple years ago taking pics of the historical markers there. It is indeed a hidden place as you have to go by that car dealership to get there. I did not however go in any of those buildings; I'm sure on special occasion they are open. And I wasn't sure about the pronunciation on a lot of that stuff either, so no sweat!
3:40 "MY LACK OF KNOWLEDGE IS NOT A BUG, IT'S A FEATURE!!!" - Dozenspeed, probably
I will stop by this place as a result of your video.
Cool park and houses. What mount and camera are you using on your windshield?
Just a good ol' GoPro ¯\_( ゚ ͜ʖ ゚)_/¯
I had no idea this existed despite passing through the area many times. I need to check it out.
Ah ha! I made a difference! Most likely now the aliens will NOT defeat us in 4357! Humanity and I thank you for watching! 🤪
I dig the extended still shots and pans. Very Dan Bell…. 😂🎉
Interesting compliment, thank you. I'm certainly trying to be me and not him, but I appreciate the positive association, as he was no doubt a very big inspiration towards my whole foray into making videos for posting on UA-cam. I didn't really start watching UA-cam consistently or take it that seriously until about 2015, and Dan Bell's inexplicably compelling videos contrasted and combined with videos of many others that in comparison seemed lacking if not downright awful, urged me to try my hand, as I felt I could at least move a camera slowly. 🙄 In fact, one of my biggest early catalysts was our local Mills Mall was incredibly dead, and I figured Dan would not be able to cover it before it disappeared, so I took upon myself to do so just in case. Yes, there were some okay videos of it, and some really really bad ones, but they didn't have much aestheticness, and frankly there is just something about filming something yourself personally. So I went (3 times) with my cheap camera and did my best to put the footage together with equally cheap software and cut-rate vaporwave, and I'm very glad I did, it was an amazing scene and probably the peak of any mall content I will ever produce. This was before I began voiceovers and that video contains some text referencing Mr. Bell as motivation for my "knock-off dead mall video" Dan has inspired many others to "pick up a camera" -as he takes after film makers who inspired him, so surely some of that even has trickled down into content of myself and others too. So I appreciate you observation of this, it shows I'm managing to convey a vibe I hope to, just as long as I'm not seen as some pale Dan Bell copycat wannabe.😬
Ah Hammond's Books & Antiques. Home of the second cheapest books in town!
Well… I posted a comment a few minutes ago telling you how similar your vids and voiceovers are to a very talented historian back in Pittsburgh, Rick Sebak on WQED. I assume it’s getting blocked by YT. Anyway, great video! Keep up the awesome work… because it’s not work, it’s a passion! 🎉🎉🎉
I don't see it in the filter, but who knows, it could have been a random glitch. But I really appreciate you going through the effort to let me know about another very flattering comment, it certainly encourages. 🙂 I've only managed to check out one of your videos so far, I've been trying to focus on my backlog, but it was of a Howard Johnson's which I feel has become a rare bird and I hope to find someday. I found it quite palatable and liked it. I'll get around to looking at a few more I'm sure, and I bet you can relate to the conundrum of finding time to watch AND create your own videos! Cheers, thanks again for your kind remarks and support. 😎
Great video! This gets people interested in visiting places like this in their towns and regions. Very cool place! I’m not a book person, but any place like this needs to be documented and shared here online. 🎉🎉🎉 People “should” have a primal thirst to get away from big box for a few hours per week and support small business. I am hoping the trend to rebuild Main Street USA grows bigger before it’s all rotted away. There are sooo many small town main streets down here in sc that I film but have already rotted away and roofs fallen in…😢
What a cool lady! Awesome that she shared her passion. There are certainly many business owners that unfortunately push away from “online attention” and it’s a bit frustrating.
@@charlestonpinballarcade She certainly is, and it was. Your statement bears much truth and I try to appreciate they might have their reasons. Sometimes they can be won over, and my hope is to gain a reputation that might assure those willing but unsure of my intentions. In the meantime, I've managed to find many accommodating business owners so far to make the risks of asking pay off and cope with the rejections gracefully.
A delightful little video. Got to check out this store. Thank you.
The "I See You" when the "Smile you're on camera" sign showed up was a nice touch.
I actually gave the owner an Uber ride from his west county home to the Brentwood Fort Taco.
What happens when you put a 3rd mall in just a few miles from 2 2 other malls
I found this video on accident and it was fun!
The color changes with the beat must be hard to do!
They're not too bad, maybe because I find them fun, satisfying and I've practiced doing stuff like that for a while. Thanks for noticing the effort, I'm just glad the effect translated. 🙂 Thanks for watching
I wish I would have filmed places in Branson when I visited there a few times. It’s just such a weird place. I really didn’t understand what it was all about when there for business meetings… but then I drove past the Yakov Smirnoff theater and the WTF began. 😂😂😂
Branson is certainly different and ever-evolving, in just a few years and a few visits I have accumulated footage of things come and gone already, and the place is full of stories. A channel could probably survive on Branson content alone. 😉 Thank you for watching.
Across the highway is the longest strip mall in the world
Ha ha! Is it really? I can believe it, it's a 1.5 mile long monster! Thanks for watching
just came back from out of town after 10 years and just realized they were gone the other day.
Have they started building new stuff on the site yet? In '22 it looked like they were rearing to go. Thanks for watching. 🙂
If this place doesn’t get saved, it’s going to be sad. Even if someone is able to save the signage and some parts of the interior and facade for a regional museum scene setup, that would be awesome.
I'm confident the sign will be saved at least, to not would be outrageously foolish! 😣 TYFW
Just found your channel! Subscribed. You have a very unique style and is something that is needed more in the dead and dying retail genre. I also like to have a few hidden jokes in my videos on my channel while visiting the places that many others would never pay attention to… I enjoy seeing and filming some of the real old school places similar to what you’re filming. I dig that courtesy diner and the old tv repair place you posted. Going to watch more of your stuff! 🎉🎉🎉
Thank you for one of the nicest and most meaningful comments I've received to date. 😎
It's not even about paying to maintain a car either though... I could easily afford to but have decided to live car-free in StL city for a decade now and don't plan on ever owning one again. Climate change is a big factor (even electric vehicles are terrible for the environment) but so is economic sustainability. We simply cannot afford to continue sprawling out with low-tax return land uses. We must invest in rail transit again and develop more dense and connected urban fabric again. This will also improve quality of life dramatically. :]
This kind of stuff seems to be happening more and more. Not everywhere just yet, but certainly more common. It's like developers are finally realizing that, maybe just maybe, everybody driving cars isn't necessarily the way of the future like everyone hoped.
We need to rebuild our stolen trolley networks and revitalize StL proper with dense development again!
@@StLouis-yu9iz I second that, and this goes for sooo many American cities. On that note, I saw that Omaha has kinda been making some strides towards improving their streets and trolleys.
Perhaps it was inaccurate to use the term "mixed-use" - I don't think anyone will be living here, at least not in any of the existing structure. People will still be essentially driving their cars to this destination venue from their subdivisions up the hill, but at least that is a much shorter drive and they don't have to go into the scary city! 🤪 The other Staenberg development at Chesterfield Mall proper will be interesting to see. Thanks for watching 🙂
It’s getting to the point where I’m visiting these places once, time flies by without me visiting again, and then they are closed.
Thanks for sharing. 🙂
Noooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!
I'm bummed out that the comment I pinned about the guy and his dog going to Fort Taco back in the day was deleted. I thought it was a charming story and about as wholesome and anecdotal to the subject of the video as they get, one of the best things about UA-cam comments in my book. I can't figure why me highlighting it received a negative reaction. 😕
I literally have never heard of Fort Taco sounds like a smaller and less bigger Taco Bell. 😂
