      When Goose died, the f14 A's engine stalled (as like previously), and due to the far spread engines, this caused a differential in thrust balance therefore creating a flat spin at 30 degrees vertically. Sorry to go too technical, I agree, he is very brave.

    I bought the ARF Plus version last week, its supposed to be delivered tomorrow so I feel like a kid waiting on Santa. Sadly the PNP was out of stock, and going the ARF route is much more expensive than getting everything bundled in with the PNP, but at least it gives you the freedom of choosing your power system. I have a few 100 and 120 amp ESCs in my spare electronics box but just decided to go with the MIG 29 100A ESC to give myself some leeway for larger motors in the future and also try and keep heat down compared to the stock 80 amp but not go overboard and add unnecessary weight. Just still unsure of my choice for motors.
    I went ahead and got two of the 3530-1680kv motors, which are the stock EDFs in the PNP version. The only 6 cells I have are 4000 mAh and figured if I went bigger without larger capacity batteries my flight time would just plummet. I read that the motors from either the MIG 29 or the A-10 are a nice upgrade over the F14's stock outrunners, and I'm sure there are other choices. Between my battery situation and still being a little wet behind the ears with larger EDFs with my current largest being my FMS 70mm F-18 and the ones I spend a lot of time flying are my two UMX jets. So even though I feel the need, the need for speed, I figured the stock motors would be good enough without immediately going balls to the wall. Only thing that makes me worry a bit is when you mentioned the large possibility of stalling the Cat out on the stock motors; I didn't realize they were that underpowered and makes me want to rethink my motor choice and just go a little more powerful from the getgo

    • @TwoBrosRC
      @TwoBrosRC  2 роки тому +1

      I wouldn't get the stock motors. They're rather underpowered and heavy. You're better off with the 9 blade motor that comes stock in the Gripen and other new jets.

    • @midlifecrisis3115
      @midlifecrisis3115 2 роки тому

      @@TwoBrosRC I'll check out those ones. I was eyeballing the MIG 29 EDF units to use with this one, but I'd be open to whatever. I just really don't like it that the stockers are so underpowered stalling is a big issue. The other thing that comes to mind with something like the F14 is these planes aren't centerline thrust like many jets are and asymmetrical thrust can really turn into a bad time if it happens when you aren't explicitly wanting it to happen. No idea if the asymmetric thrust would be a huge issue on a scale RC plane like it is the real deal, but just another thing that makes me want some better motors.
      I know 9 blades are more efficient but I just hate the sound they make, its kind of like a nails on chalkboard thing to my ears. Mine got here yesterday but I've yet to open it and start work on it. Do you happen to know what the maximum size the airframe would allow? Thr two I was eyeballing yesterday were a pair of either 3658-1857KV 12 blades or 3658-1920KV 9 blade (both inrunners). But those are a smidge larger than what it lists so I didn't know how much wiggle room there is, or if its just a "make it fit" deal do some custom modifications to get it to fit.

    Big fan of your work. I live not to far away in Fletcher where I have a fairly smooth grass strip where I fly. The EDF’s are awesome but the nose gear just don’t hold up over time in my opinion. I’ve been through several nose gear on my eFlite f4 that I replace before they break and ruin the nose on landings. Do you have any suggestions for jets that are more friendly in the grass?

    • @TwoBrosRC
      @TwoBrosRC  2 роки тому +2

      I'd personally say that you should do what you can to find a paved runway. Jets don't hold up to grass. The mounts for the gear will eventually tear out on most models. If you can't avoid grass, look for jets without cheater holes on the belly and for jets with trailing link gear systems.

    • @TwoBrosRC
      @TwoBrosRC  2 роки тому +1

      You will, but I wouldn't run a 631 in a huge jet like that. There's so many places for the antenna to get blanked out that you'll run a huge risk of losing the jet without at least two antennas. I'd personally run a second or third remote receiver in it. You should get telemetry but you'll need a separate BEC running at 5 to 5.5v to avoid burning the retracts out.

    Ok...... you have to humor my dumbass here for a minute. Are the afterburners truly functioning as they do on a real jet engine? If so, does it suck the fuel at the crazy rate that a real jet engine with afterburner. Also, what about the heat issue? Man it sure looks real as hell. I would love to get into RC aviation. I have always wanted one of those large scale bi-planes that are built extra strong for doing aerobatics. We have a little restaurant that is located on a little airport near me. It's called the fly-in because during the summer one or two planes will fly in for breakfast and then fly back out. Well there is a guy that has a really old Steerman (sp?) bi-plane with a rotary and man it is so cool to watch him fire it up and roll it onto the runway and let the cylinders get warmed up. He then will do a run up with the brakes locked and that thing is wanting to get loose..... you can see it pulsating from that rotary power. When he lets off the brake and in very little wind he is off the ground in about 500-600 feet. He always shows off because he always draws a crowd. He will try and keep it on the pavement as long as possible and then he trys to get as steep of a climb out as possible.

    • @TwoBrosRC
      @TwoBrosRC  2 роки тому

      It's an electric jet - you can see us connecting batteries in the beginning. If it was turbine powered you'd see us adding jet fuel or kerosene. The afterburners are simply lights to create the illusion of an afterburner system.
