    Great job Wes. Both F-18's look great and I'm sure they fly great to. While flying the FreeWing version you sounded like a kid with his dad's coffee cup😳! They both cost about the same. For myself, it comes down to this one thing. The cost of, any and all, replacement parts. Sooner or later you'll need a part. You could do a comparison on that as well. At any rate......FreeWing, hands down and all the way. AirHammer out!!

    • @mickmuzzmkmz1628
      @mickmuzzmkmz1628 4 роки тому +3

      That's a good point. The cost and availability of replacement parts is definitely something to consider when choosing a model.

    • @hifinsword

      @@mickmuzzmkmz1628 +1; the E-flite spares are VERY EXPENSIVE. But the real problem with E-flite/FMS is the retracts pricing and marketing. You cannot buy just a left or right retract or a left or right strut with wheels. FMS/E-flite only sell them in pairs. I've been told you can get the pair and have a spare, but that's not the case. Only lefts or rights can be used for their respective sides. The left and right side parts are not interchangeable. So you have to buy a pair, AND they are much more expensive. E-flite/FMS gets you twice - you must buy 2, even if you only need one, and their prices are much higher than Freewing's.

    • @mickmuzzmkmz1628
      @mickmuzzmkmz1628 3 роки тому

      @@hifinsword Thanks for the insight. I guess that you'd have a spare in the case you were fortunate enough to break the other side wheel or strut!😄
      It does seem a bit ridiculous that you can't just buy the side you need though.

      I ended up with an FMS 70mm F18F V2. I like the navy version f18E/F which has a larger leading edge area. And the 70mm is also convenient for transport. 2 days into that plane, I had 8 flights. Sweet flyer. The downside is the FMS Aysmitrical flap deployments. Need a little F2A mix to correct that. The plane flies dead straight out of the box. I didn't have to put a single click of trim. For those of you who want a smaller F18 out there.
      Other things I did to the FMS F18F:
      1 added another pilot, give both some helmet art.
      2 replaced main gear spring to SP 9600 Extension Spring with 0.35-Inch Diameter, 1/4-Inch x 1-1/2-Inch
      3 replaced all tires with Dave Brown softer tires. 2"x19mm for mains, 1.5"x13mm for the nose.
      4 added AR636B SAFE receiver.
      5 use a Hobbystar 4200mah 6S lipo.
      6 added Assan AG61 Steering Gyro. (8 flights in, I only rolled over slightly with full rudder deflection on a landing once)

    I thought your review was a very good review. One of the more honest reviews out there on jets. If I were a new jet jock, this would be a great review of both F-18 aircraft and answers to questions I want to ask before purchasing a jet. Very informative and educational. Now, I'm not trying to bust your balls BUT, If your going to give a fair review to the best of your ability, (both planes should have standard equipment out of the box, no upgrades). What I mean is, I'm a new jet jock and I'm looking for advice on these 2 different jets. The Freewing has the "upgraded higher performance" enging not the "standard motor" which will give better performance, faster speeds and better for taking off in grass. As a jet jock, Do I need to purchase the upgrade enging or keep the standard engine if flying off grass? Eflite has a "standard size motor" with no upgrades, which you said is an issue when taking off grass. Can I get upgrades for the Eflite from factory? You should show both taking off grass. The price you said was around $30.00 more for the Freewing. Does this $30.00 include the upgraded higher performance motor? What is the price with the standard / upgrade motor?
    Things I like (AWSOME) on the review vs the things i don't (NOT SO AWSOME):
    (AWSOME) Landing gear looks more scale on the Eflite vs Freewing but, Freewing is better on grass and you give a great reason why. (AWSOME) as a person who might purchase a F-18 that flies off grass this is a big positive point on the Freewing. But, (not AWSOME) no video on grass taking off video to show the differences. (AWSOME) Freewing has no (standard) gyro but flyes great and very stable, Eflite has a standard gyro for stability. A great plus as a positive (mental thing) for new jet jocks. My theory on gyros is, if a rc plane needs a gyro to fly then (IF) the gyro goes out during flight, how unstable will the airplane be now. (AWSOME) Adding that your opinion of the elevator having 100% throw for taking off grass is a GREAT information especially for new jet guys but, ( not so awsome ) again no video. (AWSOME) video of the Freewing vs Eflite undercarrage when explaining the differences of price, 90mm vs 80mm motor power for speed, the look of how the gear retracted look, and your summery of difference in runway and why. (awsome). You said that it Freewing had no gyro and doesn't come with a gyro but, you implied that possibilly, a gyro could or needs to be installed? um ok? How was the Freewing flight like with a gyro? As a new jet guy, should I add a gyro which will cost more? I thought your review was great but, it did have minor issues. Last but not least, they both are great planes and produce a great experience for jet guys. I did like the lady saying we need to add the number of WOW's that was said. I thought it was funny. The bug in your ear was funny as well because we all have been there, Where is the bug in your ear number like the WOW number in the video? The more extream WOW should have added more than only 1 WOW. The review was a more personal, real review with funny clips as well. Thats is what we jet jocks like, none of this (the plane is great) and the guy is just saying that because he is getting planes for free as well as to sell planes for the manufacture. Those are FAKE reviews. I think I would give this a rating of 100% AWSOME because of your REAL review with funny clips. I would have enjoied videos of the planes on grass. Please don't let this discurage you in any way making more videos. Your doing a great job and I do appreciate the positive effort for me and other rc flyers. This is just my opinion and opinions are like butt holes. We all have them and they all smell funny.

    • @MerryBoozerRC
      @MerryBoozerRC  4 роки тому

      Wow what a comment! 🤩 wow haha. Where to start on this answer I guess we will start with the upgrade motor the Freewing can be purchased with this motor already installed. As far as Gyros go there good in any airplane but not necessarily a needed item. I myself prefer no gyro but I can see that newer pilots love them. On fairness of review these planes were purchased with my money and not provided for this review so yes I’m honest with all of my reviews 😉

    • @MUDDMINNOW
      @MUDDMINNOW 4 роки тому

      @@MerryBoozerRCI hope my commits weren't taken in a derogatory way. If so I apologize. Sometimes I can sound very harsh or cut and dry but, I don't mean to, On the contrary, I do believe you are honest person and i think you gave a true evaluation between the two airplanes. You did a great review and I very much support your review and your positive efforts helping out other rc pilots with the 2 F-18's. Other people, that are sponcers of manufactures, would not attempt a product vs product review due to the backlash from their sponcers or other rc pilots like me. So KUDOS to you for that. I wish other people were so bold. There would be less BS products out there on the market or should we say, there would be BETTER quality products out their on the market not just enouph for us just off the ground. I loved the humor, the education, the insite that you gave about the products, these are very helpful for a newbe jet jock not understanding what questions he or she might not think of asking. AWSOME, They both are very good airplanes. I guess I wanted or expected to see the airplanes taking off grass vs asphalt, My relation to the review, Myself, I remember buying a Freewing 80mm A-4 that worked great off asphalt but would not even get off of the grass. $400.00 down the tubes. I had to join another club just to fly my jet, that sucked. Even thou the primous was plane vs plane, what realy happened is each plane was shown apart from one another showing how they individually worked. I like the fact that I could get a Freewing F-18 with the upgraded motor factory installed and I could take off in grass. Also, the Freewing undercarage looked complete due to the fact that the wheels didn't show like on Eflite. The gyro thing, it's Ford vs Chevy, thing. It"s just another thing that could go wrong. example: a friend of mine (manufacture sponser) put $2000.00 in gyro's, redundence servos systems, extra sensors and installed a bunch of other crap he didn't need and due to his gyro not being programmed to all the redundence servos and other products, his plane during a review he was filming for a manufacture, it crashed and totalled his P-51 Mustang. Again, your review was Awsome with these two different F-18's. If I were going to purchase an F-18, because of your review, My choice would be a Freewing with the upgraded motor. I fly off grass and I need the xtra power and ruggedness of the gear. If I were looking at Scale and i had a asphalt runway it might be the Eflite. Your review was very intuative for me. I really liked it. Keep up the reviews. Remember, my opinion is one of many butt holes that smell bad. HA! HA! Please keep up the good work.

    P.S. I see since I posted yesterday, HH has put their $45 retracts on the F-18 web page now for $20 each, left or right. Things are changing. Thanks HH. Maybe a price drop on the fuselage, wing, etc. are coming?
    The E-flite spares are VERY EXPENSIVE. But the real problem with E-flite/FMS is the retracts pricing and marketing. A FW retract cost $14.99. You cannot buy just an E-flite/FMS left or right retract or an E-flite/FMS left or right strut with wheels. FMS/E-flite only sell them in pairs. Their advertised spare retracts are $82.50 for the pair! E-flite/FMS gets you twice - you must buy 2, even if you only need one. That's a huge difference from $14.99 to $82.50. Fuselage, $80 for the FW, $110 for the E-flite.

How is the Freewing without the upgraded motor do you know? Just wondering if we are comparing apples to apples or not. Nice video BTW, and thanks for comparing.
