Right after "...Phoenix" was released, Glen was on a tour with Red Foley and Lynn Anderson when he came to Salt LakeCity. As a child in 1969. I faithfully watched "The Glen Campbell Goodtime Hour" I enjoyed so much watching and hearing Glen sing and play Guitar. I wanted to be on his show. I wanted to sing and play Guitar with Glen. So, my Dad bought me and my kid Brother a cheap Acoustic Guitar. He said if you stick with the instrument, I'll get you a better one. So I taught myself to play guitar, and started to write my own songs . I was 13yrs. old. By the time I got pretty good, Glen's show was cancelled. But I did play in several bands through out the 70's & 80's.. I really enjoyed myself. But I never got to play with the greatest Singer/Guitarist Mr. Glen Campbell. 🎸🎵🤗
I was blessed to see him (my 1st ever concert) at Univ of Tenn when he began his Good Time Hour concerts there. I was about 10 yrs old with my Mom, Dad & brother. Such great music & memories.❤❤😊
Same here. I took minor guitar lessons in elementary but I ran to my parents room, sat on the carpeted floor and waited every sunday to hear Glenn and see him play. He played a lot with a guy with long dark hair . Forget his name. Had a real crush on him and was sad in the 80’s when the tabloids started with him and Tanya. I did lose interest in his music in the 70’s but find myself so happy listening to him now at 67 and remembering a different time.
I am a child born in '67 with sunflowers in my heart to wonderful parents that filled our family with this beautiful moving music. Thanks, love you always and the 🌎.
Wonderful Angie. I graduated from High School in Seattle 1967. Queen Ann High School! Now all converted to condominiums with additional sunflowers surrounding the grounds over looking the Space Needle and downtown Seattle. Thanks Angie for your appreciation of our music from our time! Dean Seattle
1969 graduate of Cheyenne Mt. High school, Colorado Springs. Fell in love with my high school sweetheart and played this on my 8 track tape player over and over! We're Blessed ❤.
To me, this is one of the most beautiful songs to come out of the '60's or any decade. I still get chill bumps every time I hear it. You are missed, Glen.
This was my favorite 8-track tape in the sixties! Parking with my high-school love was a blessing I had know idea how very, very special it was! I'm 71 now. Time passes so very quickly! Make each day beautiful.
This is the Glen Campbell I and many others will remember. What a life this Dear man has lived. He sang in a day when music was so much better than it is today. I am grateful that I am old enough to have 'been there'. .
My dad loved Glen Campbell, and my dad could sing just like Glen. My dad sang in his church choir but never had any musical training lessons. I guess it just came to him naturally. Of all things, my dad's career choice was to be a professional firefighter for the city we live in, in Pennsylvania. My dad recently passed on, and hearing Glenn Campbell's voice reminds me of my dad singing to my mom in the kitchen whenever their favorite songs would play on the kitchen radio. Ironically when dad passed away, I found him, laying on his couch, looking so peaceful. Nearby was his radio turned on and playing to his favorite Country Music station. RIP mom and dad, thank you for being with me and your four other sons for 60+ years...
Do people know Glen Campbell was one of the most talented musicians to ever hit the big time? Before he was famous, he was a studio musician who played on literally hundreds of songs. And he was technically one of the greatest singers of the last 50 years.
America stopped what it was doing when Glen Campbell was on TV entertaining us. Back then we knew what was worth listening to, we knew what was good, and this music was good.
Glen signed my Mouse Ear pass tag (Disney World pre-opening) in 1969. His hair was EXACTLY the same in this video. As a 10-year old, I knew he was a recent celebrity. He seemed young, tired, but still accommodating. A nice guy.
When I first came to Nebraska in the US, this was one of first records I heard there. I was 16 years old and went to high school in Wakefield -our english teacher really tought me so much. Shortly after I moved to Boulder Colorado and there i lived with Troy & Rosa they led to the Lord and I was saved.
52 years old now in 2016 and i've loved and bawled EVERY SINGLE TIME i have heard this song over decades now! glen campbell my favorite male country singer of all time..
And Me, Im just 50 and grew up listening to the beautiful voice of Glen Campbell. This song always makes me weepy, Once upon a time it was just the words, but now its my own memories of my time with my parents and Glen singing in the background.
mazzg66 i'll forever regret that i never got the chance to see him perform in concert in person! ESPECIALLY years ago when he was in his "prime".. talk about kicking yourself! not that he was ever that i know of performing close to where i live..
49, grew up on songs like these since I can remember. Served in the Indian Army, left in 2007, in Dubai since, and now listening to him while getting ready for work. Time is elastic. RIP; sir.
The memory I have of this haunting song is years ago in a little diner in our town this song was playing on the jukebox as I watched a man crying at the counter seemingly about his lost love and the waitress trying to console him. I'll never forget it.
My gosh, this song -- and this performance -- reduces me to absolute mush. Glen Campbell is pure genius, his voice effortlessly produces the purest beauty. And the song itself... written by Jimmy Webb... what was going through his mind when he composed the music and lyrics? What is the source of the inspiration that can move another person to compose poetry and music which, when combined, brings the rest of us to tears? And are the tears the result of the voice that sings the words and makes the music, or are they the result of knowledge that something so simple yet so incredibly powerful was created by another mortal? Campbell and Webb surely will live on. Thank you to both.
30 plus years a college English teacher in Japan here ... and I agree with Wilshire and Pak ... your questions and sentiments reflect my own. About the only observation I can add to the discussion is this: It seems to me, that out of the darkest despair and sadness, arises the most noble and beautiful art. To me, that is the crucial difference between mere entertainment / whimsical diversion ... and great art. And though I am more of a jazz fan myself, this combination of Jimmy Webb and Glen Campbell is about as close to the sublime as I dare approach. Any closer, and I would be forever blinded by the light. Well spoken, David.
David, Thank you for speaking what so many hide in sweet desperation. I call it living on the edge of a tear. That longing that you just know a piece of life is always just in front of you, or a step behind. We often hide that part of us that could set the world free, if shared.
Here is the young man I met before he left Pasadena, Texas to sign a record label in California. I am grateful that I was briefly able to call him a friend. I've watched his career grow. I pray for him now.
This song and Wichita Lineman - two of the greatest songs ever written. As a young girl, I would listen to them over and over. They still tug my heart.
For quite some time now, I've been thinking I'm silly for crying over Glen's beautiful voice, it just gets me. HOWEVER, I'm seeing more and more folk have the same thing... I don't think we can help loving him.. What a loss to the world he is.
This is one of the saddest and most beautiful songs out there. I've always loved it. It was the coda to my parents divorcing and my mom and I moving from AZ to NY. Always makes me teary-eyed but I'm also addicted to this song. Campbell's voice! And I love Johnny Rivers, too.
this song...and all his...makes me want to leave town and drive across the country...just to listen to his songs and think about my life....and where I went wrong or right...
Though Glen Campbell has been silenced by disease, his genius and extraordinary talent as a master musician, singer, songwriter, will live on for generations yet to be born. There are musicians...then there is Glen Campbell. God poured out an extra dose of musical prowess on any string instrument known to man....he is in a class all by himself and there is no one to fill his shoes. Thank you Lord for sharing this man and his many gifts that keep on giving!
Very beautiful performance and old school vibratto, and live. Beautiful instrumentation and arrangements. I enjoy it very much. The Great Glen and now his legacy continued by his daughter Ahsley and his son. Greetings from Mexico.
One of the most underrated performers of all time. A master guitarist, a wonderful voice, and a gentle soul. Growing up watching him, I didn't appreciate how phenomenal he was. But, I did eventually, and miss him every day. This is my favorite song by him, and it still tugs at my heartstrings when I hear it!
I am Brazilian and it is not of my time this great man of music and cinema, but when listening to this song I feel salty, the melody gives me a certain longing that I can not explain, but this song is beautiful and I know that with all respect it says I admire his voice and other works in which he participated ... I leave my condolences for a longing that will never disappear in the face of such talent. Congratulations Glen for this wonderful work you have left behind for all of us regardless of age and gender. May God be with you always beyond, because you deserve it ...
Heard this song when I was running away from home in 1968. Was hitchhiking in OK. Started crying. God were those tough days. Thankfully things turned out well.
As a young boy my mom would play glens records while doing her chores around the house. I've been listening to glens music now for 50yrs and will continue til I see mom again. GOD rest her soul. Thankyou so much GLEN for so many great wonderful years. GOD bless you and the family.
Thanks so much for sharing that beautiful memory Russell. My dad used to play Glen Campbell all the time when I was a kid. He was an English teacher so he loved Jimmy Webb's beautiful work, and Glen's ability to put genuine life into it. Thanks for the reminder, take care of yourself.
I just finished watching Glen Campbell: I’ll Be Me, an account of his disease and his farewell tour. It’s hard to watch his decline, but I’m grateful that he had such a supportive family. All the tributes to him that are showcased in the film were well deserved. Incredible talent.
This beautiful song reminds me of my lovely dad...he sang this song all the time back when I actually moved from England to Phoenix xxx god rest his soul
I'll meet you there, too! Although an accomplished player, you can give me some lessons, like the ascending/descending 12-string lines on "Southern Nights"..Genius, Sir! !
I remember listening to this song when I was about eight in 1973. It was my first cassette that came with the player Mum and Dad gave me for Christmas. The time l was thinking of we on an off-road trip to South Australia and I can clearly remember laying in my bunk in the back or our Land Rover with the speaker held close to my ear putting me off to sleep. That song even as a kid made me emotional. It came of a Glen Campbell greatest hits album. When l here that song it still makes me emotional as l think back to that time when my parents were alive, and everything was magical.
I begged my spouse to help keep our marriage working, nothing, so I left just as I said I would, the hardest choice I ever made, I had a 3 year old Son, that I loved more than life. 24 years later this song still brings tears to my eyes, for I warned and begged her, she wouldn't listen.
Beautiful Man, Beautiful Voice, Beautiful Song, Rest In Heaven Glen, You Gave The World So Much Joy With Your Music, You Will Never Be Forgotten And Always Remembered, Your Legacy And Memory Will Live Forever In Our Hearts, Thank You Glen For Making This World A Better Place With Your Music, We Love You. 💙
Glen Campbell was a virtuoso guitarist , great singer , excellent live entertainer !! ( Jimmy Webb - great writer ). Let's give him the tremendous respect he deserves ! Don't dwell on the struggles he had with his health last years of his life Bravo Glen Campbell 🏆👏 🙋♂️👍❤🙏
An ERA is over folks Glen Campbell is Gone but he will always live in my music that I have... I met his cousins in the 60,s when they would have the family Reunion in Delight Arkansas what great days those were.
Love this song, and this version. And so much respect for Glen Campbell. Rest well Mr Campbell, and thank you for a lot of great music. You were so classy! I'm an 80s kid, and a rocker. But I like good music. And this is good stuff. I love Miss Joanna Moore's cover of this song as well - and would have loved to heard the 2 of them do it together.
GOD thank you for the Artist who bears the name Glenn Travis Campbell! Another member of a Great generation who gave so much to their Republic and to the World! This includes my Daddy who GOD Blessed me with! Although the lyrics are part, the melody is what always touchs ny heart. The tone the emotion in the voice of this great singer who GOD Blessed us with!
I remember driving to Albuquerque from Tucson many times, and when getting into NM I always started crying, I love NM so much. I lived there 19 years of my life. I've met the most honest and hard working beautiful people there.
During a time of an explosion of incredibly great music, Glen Campbell could actually stand out with his signature sound, talent, and presence. Salute and RIP.
One of my favorite songs that Glen Campbell sang was 'everyday housewife' and 'Wichita Lineman' he had so many great songs, and I remember them from my wonderful childhood growing up around my parents who loved music and played it morning and night in our house. It made everything festive bright cheery and loving, I wish those times were here forever but as we can see times have changed. But we can always remember Glenn, and we have UA-cam to watch him on and to listen to his great music. thank you UA-cam for being here for us. Rest in peace Glenn see you in the Resurrection. {John5:29; 11:24,25. Acts 24:15.}
Such a love story she just hear that phone ringing off the wall here in 2019 how do we get on without our cell phones RIP Glen you still give us so much joy
These are legends who impacted a generation with their brilliant storytelling through mastery of musical instruments, words and voice. Wichita Lineman has got to be one of the best and most important songs ever written and recorded in and of the 20th century. What a privilege it has been to have grown up with his music that has touched my life immensely. Gone, but never forgotten. You live on in your songs, which are both beautiful to listen to and sing along.
This song taught me about heartbreak, heard it as a teenager: image of girl just waiting: but she’ll just hear that phone keep on ringing, off-the-wall, that’s all...sigh!
While all the people I hung around back in the day were growing their hair long, getting high, and listening to nothing but rock music (which I enjoyed as well), I listened to Soul, R&B, and musicians like Glen Campbell. I still have one of his original vinyl albums that I used to play all the time. Campbell's version of John Hartford's, Gentle on My Mind, is one of my all-time favorite pieces of music regardless of the genre. It is one of the finest songs ever written. This one comes really close.
Who is listening in 2020 . 😎
RIP Glen Campbell.
I am.
Amen! The very best!
Listening to one of the greatest guitarists of all time

I'm in my fifties. I grew up on a lot of rock and roll. But Glen Campbell and Jimmy Webb were enormously talented! No one else could compare. ❤
Here is the young man I met before he left Pasadena, Texas to sign a record label in California. I am grateful that I was briefly able to call him a friend. I've watched his career grow. I pray for him now.
+Carol Parker So ... by the time he got to Phoenix, you were rising ... . May our spirits all rise, with his, after he really goes.
Very, Very Sorry For your Loss.......Carol !!!! I saw his last concert in Boston several years ago....SO VERY SAD TODAY !! #RIP GLEN CAMPBELL.......
What a loss this year. I grew up with his music. Makes me cry knowing he is not around anymore.
Wow Carol, what a great moment! Glen is with us forever. like to get to know you,
@@joannicholson3051 Hey Joan, how is things going with you?
This song and Wichita Lineman - two of the greatest songs ever written. As a young girl, I would listen to them over and over. They still tug my heart.
I so agree!!!
For quite some time now, I've been thinking I'm silly for crying over Glen's beautiful voice, it just gets me. HOWEVER, I'm seeing more and more folk have the same thing... I don't think we can help loving him.. What a loss to the world he is.
No Maureen. You aren't alone. We love him and hope one day we will see and hear him again ❤️.
This is one of the saddest songs I’ve ever heard too. My mom left my dad in 77.
Love it! Will keep on lisgtening until I die... I am 86 old BUT LOVE IT!!!
this song...and all his...makes me want to leave town and drive across the country...just to listen to his songs and think about my life....and where I went wrong or right...
Russ Jackson.
ppl pop 'll
Me too
what a man you are , words of truth and wisdom thanks
Like driving across country you can always take another road and change the course of your life.
❤ SENSATIONAL AWESOME BEAUTIFUL HEAVENLY AMAZING WONDERFUL PHENOMENAL EXTRAORDINARY ❤😊!!!!!!
Why do I feel nostalgic about America in the late 60s after listening to this music?
I’m an Indian born in the mid 90s who has never been to America 👀
Same. but born in the 2000s
Love and miss you Glen.
Another one of Glen's 💖 breaking songs.Thats one reason why you were loved.
I grew up on Glen Campbell music. Thank God.
He was a beautiful singer in the 70s when I started to listn to him....
Though Glen Campbell has been silenced by disease, his genius and extraordinary talent as a master musician, singer, songwriter, will live on for generations yet to be born. There are musicians...then there is Glen Campbell. God poured
out an extra dose of musical prowess on any string instrument known to man....he is in a class all by himself and there is no one to fill his shoes. Thank you Lord for sharing this man and his many gifts that keep on giving!
Well I am sorry to hear that as he was such a good singer. Pity! Regards.
Roger L ..9
Lord you sure can sum things up,you just said it all and I for one will always be addicted to Glens music. Here here !

" By The Time I Get To Phoenix"
Great Glen Campbell Single,
Great Injury Reserve Album.
Herhos2015 That was very beautifully said. 😏
Heard this song when I was running away from home in 1968. Was hitchhiking in OK. Started crying. God were those tough days. Thankfully things turned out well.
Glen Campbell & Jimmy Webb = Gold
"By the Time I Get to Phoenix", "Wichita Lineman", "Galveston", "Where's the Playground Susie" ...all classics
This is a Very beautiful song.. Only mature adults would fully enjoy and understand this heart felt song.
As a young boy my mom would play glens records while doing her chores around the house. I've been listening to glens music now for 50yrs and will continue til I see mom again. GOD rest her soul. Thankyou so much GLEN for so many great wonderful years. GOD bless you and the family.
Yeah my mom would too and I can still hear her whistle to these songs.
What a great statement you made. your a great soul
I am in awe of his vocal performance -perfect precision, perfect emotion.
53 years later it is still a Great Song. It has passed the test of time. Unforgettable, it is a song Iike to listen every time I can
This beautiful song reminds me of my lovely dad...he sang this song all the time back when I actually moved from England to Phoenix xxx god rest his soul
I loved you Glen. Your last song for Alzheimer's patients, "I'm not going to miss you", was so powerfulll

By the time I get to heaven, he’ll be singing....
Can’t wait to meet you Glen :)
Thats so poetic but you could also add to it " and he'll be waiting"
@@yvonneburns2786 so true :)
I'll meet you there, too! Although an accomplished player, you can give me some lessons, like the ascending/descending 12-string lines on "Southern Nights"..Genius, Sir! !
I love this song,. It's so beautiful and heart felt that really tug on your 💜 strings. This song has special memories for myself.
I cry EVERY time i hear this
me too Aimee , so so sad
me three, i've been "bawling" over this song since i was a child and now in my 50's...
me too, such a great singer
Aimee Dawley I
Right. Iam 64. Good memorie s and every day left behinde, ready to go back to my house, closer and closer to God.
Saw Glen in Hawaii, 1968, while on R&R from Vietnam. Wonderful entertainer.
I begged my spouse to help keep our marriage working, nothing, so I left just as I said I would, the hardest choice I ever made, I had a 3 year old Son, that I loved more than life. 24 years later this song still brings tears to my eyes, for I warned and begged her, she wouldn't listen.
Oh that’s sad
Hm my god
Very sorry for your sincere efforts, altho in vain!! Been there, but not with marriage and children!! Still hard!
Did you take your son with you?
so sad so sad dear Glen R.I.P What a great artist! miss you so much, xxx
I've introduced my 23 year old son to Glen and he really likes the music and storytelling.
Your are missed Glen❤
Well done Cynthia...you're a good Mom.

Glen Campbell was a virtuoso guitarist , great singer , excellent live
entertainer !!
( Jimmy Webb - great writer ).
Let's give him the tremendous respect he deserves !
Don't dwell on the struggles he had with his health last years of his life
Bravo Glen Campbell 🏆👏
🙋♂️👍❤🙏
A man who kept so many happy
An ERA is over folks Glen Campbell is Gone but he will always live in my music that I have... I met his cousins in the 60,s when they would have the family Reunion in Delight Arkansas what great days those were.
What a wonderful master piece, and the perfect musician to bring it to us and the world. RIP Glen.
Mr. Campbell the Earthmaker chose you to pour your heart and soul to us . Iconic talent..
During a time of an explosion of incredibly great music, Glen Campbell could actually stand out with his signature sound, talent, and presence. Salute and RIP.
One of my favorite songs that Glen Campbell sang was 'everyday housewife' and 'Wichita Lineman' he had so many great songs, and I remember them from my wonderful childhood growing up around my parents who loved music and played it morning and night in our house. It made everything festive bright cheery and loving, I wish those times were here forever but as we can see times have changed. But we can always remember Glenn, and we have UA-cam to watch him on and to listen to his great music. thank you UA-cam for being here for us. Rest in peace Glenn see you in the Resurrection. {John5:29; 11:24,25. Acts 24:15.}
Such a love story she just hear that phone ringing off the wall here in 2019 how do we get on without our cell phones RIP Glen you still give us so much joy
The voice and the halting singing, is so moving
Absolutely meant for heaven and earth
These are legends who impacted a generation with their brilliant storytelling through mastery of musical instruments, words and voice. Wichita Lineman has got to be one of the best and most important songs ever written and recorded in and of the 20th century. What a privilege it has been to have grown up with his music that has touched my life immensely. Gone, but never forgotten. You live on in your songs, which are both beautiful to listen to and sing along.
Jimmy Webb and Glenn Campbell created shared magic.... RIP Glenn - you are missed!
I agree Jimmy Webb wrote amazing songs and glen campbell sang them perfect never be a better country singer
It's so sad to see everybody get old when they were once young and carefree.
Linda Gray It happens to everybody. If they live long enough to get old!
Just beautiful...I was 9 years old when this was on the pop charts ...
Boy, you were a super star
A perfect song, for an imperfect time
😷
This man's voice....smooth as butter! There will never be another like him!
Mmmmm , I Love Butter too
Clearest voice, best guitarists ever. No one can follow him. Played with the greatest and was the greatest.
I'm so glad that we haven't lost Jimmy Web. Best songwriter that has ever lived. Glen and Jimmy were meant to be together.
Love this song. Have always enjoyed Glenn Campbell's voice and style. R.I.P.
This song was so simply NOT overdone, which is why it's still beautiful to hear today!
Wow, Glenn Campbell's voice is like pure honey! Very few people can really sing, he definitely can. Beautiful song too
Listened to this beautiful song in late 1967 going to Calif from Wisconsin
I haven’t had the heart to hear that song because it reminds me of my dad who died in 68 way to young....
The fact that people are listening in 2018 shows that Glen will live forever...RIP
