Oh. Did not know Mr. Yost is Canadien. Yes, without question Canada produces musicians of truly great and rare excellence. I do Love That Song, "Traces."
One of the saddest, most heartbreaking songs, but, oh, what a musical gem. It was a treat when it came on the radio in 1969. But it does make me sad. Released on January 25, 1969, reaching # 2 on March 9. R.I.P., Dennis.
Harry: According to your dating, this song was released 20 days after I was shot in an NVA ambush while walking point on patrol just off the Ho Chi Minh trail near the "Parrot's Beak" on the Cambodian border in South Vietnam. I remember it vividly.
BULLCRAP!! Life was not, nor is and has never been good and simple. Kent State lost 4 students killed(who were NOT even a part of the protesting) by National Guard overreaction called for no real reason&shooting an unnecessary action. And there's more. and good and simple I don't see, but it was at times great fun among different folks, Lotsa talk about Brotherhood and love and anti racism going on, and so, thanks fellow hippies, hippy was a term that began as a slur, but became a symbolic and meaningful recognition within sight of folks meant anti--racism, brotherhood and peace as excellent goals. Peace and love all.

Dennis Yost and Pat Upton two of my idols from my youth and happy years when I met my wife in high school, she 14 and I was 16, great music. We still together by the way.
Gee, This song actually makes sense, I can understand the lyrics, NO rap crap, no autotune, no tight skinned girly man singers! Work for me! Wish it was back live! Sorry for all those that missed this time!
Now I prefer Meghan Trainor, Billie Eilish and Taylor Swift...today's wonderful women of song. This song here may have been good in its time, but nowadays it just seems to be a throwback relic of an era of too much toxic masculinity. I'd as just soon listen to Baby It's Cold Outside.
What a beautiful Classic song, by the Classics IV, RIP Dennis Yost, you had the most beautiful smooth voice, I get so emotional still listening to Traces, still crying like I was in 1967...God bless you, Dennis. thanks for uploading! 12//5/12 San Diego, CA
Traces is one of the most beautiful songs and so well written. The lyrics and how the lead singer/band arranged the melody was brilliant. The vocals and harmonies are indelibly beautiful. I was born around the time it was released and I never get tired of listening to it .A Class act band and talent from some of the most talented singers/bands from the 60's and early 70's. Thank god for digital.
JH... imagine being a high school kid 15 years old at a private party dancing with a pretty and sweet girl to this on a .45 RPM. I lived it and it was almost a dream to live out. I haven't forgotten it in 50 years.
The Detroit, Mi born Jacksonville, Fl bred Dennis Yost had that smooth silky voice. He was one of my all time favorite singers R.I.P Dennis you're one in a million.
This is one of the greatest songs ever recorded. Besides the beautiful music and lyrics listen to the awesome arrangement and the bittersweet effect throughout the production. It's tragic that we no longer have these kinds of songs and craftmanship.
Upbeat show, Cleveland, Ohio, host Don Webster. In this era, we didn't have to think how great the music, the "magic" was. We lived it. Tragically, those in charge didn't record these groups in the best film format available. That era, this song, just wonderful.
This quality of voice and lyrics, can never go away or be subsituted by today´s "music".....Dennis Yoist has left a great legacy in the history of music and his place is forever.
I could listen to this beautiful song all day. I remember waking up to it early one morning as it played on my clock radio in 1973. Love it as much now as I did then. It sure beats the rubbish being recorded today that tries to pass itself off as music.
I am getting a different take on songs like this after decades of enjoying them. Still loving them but have finally realized that it was Vietnam that fuelled so many of the writers' personal feelings that make songs of that era great and unbeatable. Not about extreme partying and going nuts but reflecting on the present and working toward better days. Like Marvin's "What's Goin' On?"
Oh my god, this song reminds me when I met my husband, I was 14 years old and we loved both of them, I still have the album. Hahahaha, what a beautiful memories.
Back when song writing was a real art, amazing craft in arrangement and lyric. Not sure what’s going on today, but there’s a real lack of depth and soul missing today. Great stuff. Still holds up
This is one of the classic songs of all time. Dennis was one of the individuals that lead me into songwriting. In the mid-70's when I was picking up every book and manual I could find in songwriting, I found out how the Classic Four and other would write hit songs. 1969 was a great year for me...that is when I became a Professional Musician at age 15. Rest In Peace Dennis...GOD gave us a great gift in your music!
I was a young tike,I would hear my neighbors transistor radio playing,in 1969 I was 7 years old,I'm fortunate to have these beautiful songs in my head to this day.
What an exquisite combination of meaningful lyrics, soulful music and soothing voice. A lifelong love story told in less than 3 minutes. It leaves you waiting for more. Like or comment and we will keep this going for a long long time...
This song is so dang beautiful! One of those songs that makes you long for the past, good times and bad. I found this song by accident about 5 years ago, and I am so glad that I did. A masterpiece.

Almost 2024 and this still tops anything on the pop radio stations ❤
This got me crying, I'm 74. So long ago. You're so right.
This man was truly underrated during the sixties. They were so good in every song they did. They were one of my favorite bands of all time.

Music sure has changed! I still love this!
My favorite group
Faded photograph
Covered now with lines and creases
Tickets torn in half
Memories in bits and pieces
Traces of love long ago
That didn't work out right
Traces of love
Ribbons from her hair
Souvenirs of days together
The ring he used to wear
Pages from an old love letter
Traces of love long ago
That didn't work out right
Traces of love
With me tonight
I close my eyes and say a prayer
That in her heart
she'll find
A trace of love still there
Somewhere, ooooh, oh
[Instrumental Interlude]
Traces of hope in the night
that she'll come back and dry
These traces of tears
From my eyes
Whoooa, oooh, oh, ooo

Alone Again by Gilbert O'Sullivan.
Geez, thanks for making a tune that hits home about my last relationship "the saddest tune ever". Sheesh, cut a guy a break!
I know right Timeless
When it took talent to sing because you could understand the words and actually sit back and LIVE the music! What an era! So happy I was a part of it.
If you're still out there 👍👍

Just saw Classics IV this last Sunday with the Happy Together concert and can still sing this well. They were wonderful.

1969. The year I met my lovely wife. We married four years later. Still brings memories of my awakening as a teenager. Always loved the classics four.

Great tune. They don't make music like this anymore.
You should hear another one of his awesome "classics", 'Midnight'. Many of his songs have a sad tinge to them.
Stormy & Spooky were also great songs
