This admonition was given immediately following a grievous example of hypocrisy on the part of one or more people. I was so blown away by this interview. I kinda liked Glen Campbell, and everyone my age knew and liked Alice Cooper. But, to hear how articulate Alice is about their relationship makes me appreciate both of them even more. Alice Cooper is such a genuine guy. As a young boy on holiday in the south of France in 1985, my father had a Glen Campbell cassette. It was played over and over for 2 weeks during that holiday. Now being 40 years old, I listen to Glen’s greatest hits. RIP Glen Campbell you were a wonderful family man.
I'm so glad I came across this interview with Mr. Cooper. It was kind of him to share his memories of Mr. Campbell and give sincere, thoughtful responses to the interviewer's questions. I appreciate that, very much.
I love Alice Cooper. I listened to him so much in the 1970’s. I loved his work, his theatricality and his intellect. What a musician! What a character.
Thanks for posting this entire interview. Big thumbs up to the interviewer who simply asked some good questions and let him talk. This is a rare, honest, heartfelt story about a genuine friendship between 2 people who happen to be really famous musicians.
Back in the late 80s- early 90s I was a Flight Attendant and had Alice Cooper on the plane a couple of times. The first time I spoke to him I was impressed. He was a wonderful passenger. I also overheard him and his manager talking investments. The man is brilliant respectful and down to earth when not on stage.. I found out after the first flight that he's Christian and I was thrilled.
A great interview. it's obvious Alice has a deep and loving respect for Glen. That's what true friendship is all about. Glen was lucky enough to have Alice a part of his life. Good to see both gentlemen as Alice says 'Come out the other side "
Chet Atkins too. Sadly after the eighties people forgot about the many many many great country guitarists, and were told that shredding is the only way to play a guitar.
+Alice Cooper is saying the right words at the beginning of this video: "I think it's a relief for Glen and the family." He talks as a friend of Glen Campbell, and what he says about his friend ARE the words of a true friend. Thank you, Alice Cooper, for sharing this with all fans of Glen, me included. -- Hans Rosenthal (A.H.R.D.)
I think he had reasons for that. If your best friend dies, you do not want to look onto the dead body of the one you loved so much. -- Hans Rosenthal (A.H.R.D.) PS: This is quite natural, the funeral is for the one who died, not for those who loved him the most.
diver dave: His wife Kim Woollen was there, was that not enough. -- Hans Rosenthal (A.H.R.D.) PS: Please bear in mind: This was when Glen Campbell passed away, only his wife had the right to say goodbye to her husband upon his grave.
One of the most heartfelt, genuine and complete interviews I have ever seen involving musical legends and friends. You are a good man, Alice, and taught us some things about Glen that we may have not known. Thank you.
I come back to this every once in awhile, just for a smile. To hear Alice tell things about Glen, not as a way to harm Glen, just to tell the truth speaks volumes about their friendship. I remember in the 70's reading all about things like his fling with Tanya Tucker, his drug addiction, and somehow he came through the other side where the sun shines, and it was really hard to watch the documentary because I saw my mom decline to nothing thanks to Alzheimer's. She was our church organist for 50 years, she had learned to play as a girl, and when we finally decided she couldn't live safely by herself we placed her in a nursing home. Her first few years there were great because she would sit down at the piano in the dining room to play and many of the residents would be drawn to the music. Her final 3 years she no longer recognized the piano or what it was for. It was a relief when she did pass away. She wasn't "living" when that time came. There has to be some great music in heaven when you think about all who made music are there when you get there. Rock and Roll will never die.
I remember getting out of Jr. high school 7th grade for the summer and Alice was the man. In 1972 all you could hear was School's Out blasting from every car radio, Always loved you Alice, I'm 57 and I've loved your music since I was 13!!!!!!!!
Same grade as u when "School's Out ", hit Lodi California . What a year 1972 was! Alice was the man for sure!!! He both, really scared me and fascinated me at same time. Never in a million years would I have put Campbell and Cooper together as best buds!!! What a great world we live in!! Thanks God!
I saw a concert of his, performing with his family a couple of years before he passed away. He needed a teleprompter to remember his lyrics, but his musicianship was perfect. His guitar and banjo skills were so entrenched in his brain that he still had it right to the end.
He's an artist. He's complicated. Why do people who aren't artists just not get it? Artists are full of seeming contradictions. Goes with the territory. Don't pigeon hole people. You'll have a much more interesting experience of life.
Easy there fella. As a free human, I have a right to not like someone or their music. I was no fan of Glen Campbell'music either but I like to see friendships span musical genres and social backgrounds. So here, I express some new found appreciation for him as a person and instead of saying something intelligent like, "Glad you got to see this side of Alice. He's a decent guy and maybe if you give his music another shot, you'll appreciate his creativity." I get a potatohead like you giving me a lecture. I hope you're not representative of his overall fan-base. Mr. Cooper my appreciation for your cross-genre friendship stands regardless of harmoniabanana.
Thank you for this insight I was unaware of. My wife is a huge Alice fan so I'll share this with her. I was just raised in another genre altogether but I'm going to give a listen to him again with my wife's choice of album..

The Ovation guitar was developed by aircraft engineer Charlie Kaman using aerospace composite material instead of traditional wood construction. Charlie Kaman was a professional guitarist. He turned down an offer to be guitarist with the Tommy Dorsey orchestra in order to pursue his business of developing a unique helicopter based on a WWII German design. Years later, he used the latest thing in aircraft structural technology to go back to his roots, and he developed a space-age guitar.

James Stewart is obviously referring to the God he believes in, and also since many folks believe in God, the God we each believe in as we share the great appreciation for Glen and the gratitude that he has been released from this imperfect life in an imperfect world. He is, according to the beliefs of many, in a place of perfect Peace and perfect Love. While those who do not believe can simply know this post does not pertain to them-you, it is no one's place to put down the beliefs of others...since you asked. I've never been a fan of Alice Cooper's music but am a HUGE fan of everything else about him! What a great friend to Glen Campbell, a figure I saw on the TV as a very young girl and have only just come to appreciate as one of the greatest guitarists of our time.
Alice Cooper what a lovely man, totally opposite his on stage persona. A lovely tribute to a great fellow musician, in a completely different genre of music.
When I heard Alice was Christian it was a total disconnected WTF moment. Growing up with him being part of the counter culture and to hear that? Its like if George Carlin came out as Christian after ridiculing everything normal or sacred. Still blows me away.
HEY, for many years, in the early days, Johnny Cash and Bob Dylan were close friends and often partied and played music together. Kind of a mutual respect type of thing I think..
Alice Cooper and Glen Campbell - who would have thought they were close? It just goes to show you how talented Glen was, and honestly, Alice Cooper as well. Thank you Alice Cooper. "No More Mr. Nice Guy" doesn't apply here and it's spot on sir. Makes me respect your music even more.
Alice Cooper is such a good guy. If you haven’t seen it, watch his interview with Dan Rather. Probably one of the most misunderstood people in show business.
Glen was my favorite country singer in the 70''s, 80's, 90's and even his last album Adios was so touching! I couldn't sleep so I got up turned on the TV and they were announcing his passing. R.I.P. Glen, gone but never forgotten.
He didn’t have UA-cam or tab books or video lessons to help him along. That is amazing. Old school guys that learned by ear have such an understanding of the guitar. It took a lot of effort to learn things back then.
So blown away that Alice Cooper said evh wanted guitar lessons from glen Campbell. What a nice thing to pass along. Those of us who don't really know these musicians never could have guessed that. Loved Loved both EVH and glen Campbell. Never see talent like that again

How can anyone not feel moved by this honest and emotional interview with 'Alice'? This is the best of humanity - feel sad for the ones who do their best to show how shallow they are.
Your statement is very profound. I read the comments first before I listened to the interview. I was never a fan of AC as his music appeared to be in the dark side. He is a stand-up person and in the Kingdom of God. I just don't know enough about his on stage performance character. I would think that he would renounce that part, but that's not my problem. I wish him well
As someone else said here, someone may simply not be a fan of either artist, or maybe there's something they disliked in the interview. Don't assert that they must be trolls.
I have always had Glen in my heart since the days of my childhood when my Mother played his music. His music reached into the common Man's heart. At least, that's how it was for me, and seemed to be so for all those I knew. Witchita Lineman reached deep in me as a laborer/worker. He speaks to the heart of the Natural Man.
I think Alice Cooper represents the highest pinnacle of integrity any performer could ever aspire to. I am sure Glen is smiling right now knowing he had a friend so stayed and true.
It's nice to see someone of his fame interviewed, and for a change just be a regular honest and down to earth guy, not "putting on airs", not "being self scripted", but honest and even admitting his faith without reservations. Thanks Alice and God Bless you and your family.
I always liked the real Alice Cooper as opposed to the character he portrays in concerts. He’s such a great story teller and is so knowledgeable about all the other characters of the music industry. I can easily see why he was friends with all these other stars.
I discovered this 'real' Alice about ten years ago. The man oozes integrity and warmth. On the other hand, I had little knowledge of Glen, and stumbled upon his story a few days ago. Glen's memory is kept strong by people like Alice and Kim, and I have found a renewed appreciation for Christianity. Godspeed, Glen.
I spent some time with Glen (and his wife Kim) one day and it was one of my most amazing experiences. He was so gracious, so humble, so entertaining as we talked about his music career, his film(s) (he said he was only happy with True Grit but humbly suggested he wasn't that good an actor, I thought he was GREAT!). So full of light, life and love we also talked about his faith and he sung a lil of a gospel song that was a number 1 hit and I got to sing along a lil'. What a thrill. I pray he is resting peacefully asleep in the Messiah... I love that man ... and Kim and his family ... HalaluYaH !
He told me this that he ... "Was hand-picked by actor John Wayne to play alongside him in the western film True Grit (1969)" ... "which gave him a Golden Globe nomination for "Most Promising Newcomer," and had a hit with the title song which was nominated for an Academy Award. He performed it live at that year's Academy Awards Show."
The best concert I ever attended was Alice at the Richmond Coliseum about 1975. A tremendous rainstorm kept people away; there were fewer than 500 people. They could have said "The hell with it" and walked off but they gave a show as if there were 100,000 attendees. Respect for the audience; respect for the artists.
Alice was close with my neighbor Danny Briggs in the 90's and they played golf all of the time together. Danny loved Alice so much and said that he was one of the most genuine people he knew. I never got to meet Alice, but I know, through stories that Danny and Kim Birggs told to me, that he is an incredibly intelligent and funny man. Glen Campbell went to my dad's car wash on 40th and Camelback in the 80's and my dad said that Glenn was gracious and he always had a kind word for my dad. Arizona is so lucky to have had great men like them, living in the Valley! We love them both!
I was never an Alice Cooper fan, but I am now! What a really great guy!!! Shows that you cannot judge a book by it's cover. RIP Glen, and thank you Mr. Cooper for those great memories of Glen that you've shared with us. Vincent is a really cool guy.
I was 18 when "eighteen" came out. It was like our high school graduation anthem. I loved Alice Cooper, the band. They played serious rock and roll with a bit of a haunted house theme thrown in. They were a great show, toured every album back then and I never missed them when they were in town. Vince was/is a very normal guy in real life and I appreciate his friendship and respect of Glenn Campbell.
I graduated high school the spring 'School's Out For Summer' hit the charts. We cranked the car radio every time it was on and screamed along all that summer. As for Glen Campbell - what a guy!
Wow, this interview just gave me a whole new level of respect for Alice Cooper. What I wouldn't give to have been at the 19th hole with them listening to their tales of the music business. A pleasant surprise was Alice's callout of Bobby Goldsboro, one of my favorites in the 60s and 70s. Memories indeed.
Glen was one of the Wrecking Crew in LA in the 1960’s and they did the instrumental back ups for hundreds of hit songs for other bands. Great guitarist and human being. God bless him!🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
What a beautiful interview! I NEVER knew that Alice Cooper and Glen Campbell were such close friends, or that they even knew each other! Alice's obvious love for his friend shines throughout the whole interview without being sappy. RIP Glen Campbell, and keep on rockin' Alice Cooper!

In my experience, which in no way competes with yours, it's also pretty bad at the beginning, when things start to go awry, and you can't imagine why, except that something in the back of your mind is going, Oh no please not that; not that please.
My mother died at 93 and she had all her mind intact. She said she wished she had Alzheimers.
Just saw this.....Mr. .Cooper noted that even as the Alzheimers took over, put a guitar in Campbells hands and all was much better . The same observations were made earlier this year about Tony Bennett as he coped with the disease.

And, I've got an especially new and wonderful understanding of who Alice Cooper is as a human being.

I remember sitting back stage tuning my guitar… with my handy dandy tuner and Glen’ walks in… makes one strum on the guitar and in less that 15 seconds every string was perfect… by ear! He was mesmerizing to watch. Absolutely the greatest and always with that huge boyish grin! What a gentleman.
And, Alice… what a class act and it just warms my heart to hear him professing his love of God without hesitation.

Why bring politics into this when you are honoring

I like "School's Out", "You and Me" and this one, which never charted "Some Folks" was on 1975's "Welcome to my Nightmare" LP (remember those?)
I first heard "Some Folks", which never charted (album cut) in late '76. It's from "Welcome to my Nightmare", a '75 album. Loved it ever since!

I saw a concert of his, performing with his family a couple of years before he passed away. He needed a teleprompter to remember his lyrics, but his musicianship was perfect. His guitar and banjo skills were so entrenched in his brain that he still had it right to the end.
Never been a fan of Alice Cooper... suddenly that has changed. Thanks for being a stand up guy Mr. Cooper.

HalaluYaH !

He performed it live at that year's Academy Awards Show."

One of the greatest, most respectful interviews I have had the pleasue to watch.
I was never into that kind of music. But as a man.. he nails it.
I see Alice is getting so emotional talking about Glen my grandfather had Alzeimers it so heartbreaking
Second time I watched this interview, Alice Cooper is for real, his comments are a great tribute to a lost friend!
I'm just struck by the image of Alice Cooper and Glen Campbell playing golf together.
Edward Miller Excuse me.!!!
Edward Miller I can more easily see Alice Cooper hanging out with Willie Nelson. Lol
what alice did not tell us , is that the other two golfers with them on that day were Marilyn Manson and Pat Boone
I was flipping thru the channels on a Saturday a long long time ago. Alice Cooper won a celebrity golf tourney with Bruce Jenner(!)
Glen Campbell wasn't just a great guitar player. He wasw a scratch golfer and a scratch bowler.
Wow, Mr. Cooper..what wonderful, sincere thoughts to share about your friend. We all miss him.
Glen Campbell and Alice Cooper..two music greats! I didn't know they were so close. RIP Glen Campbell.
We love you Alice, and thank you for your kind words about a great man.
Glen Campbell was a very gifted, talented and beloved American!
Glen was one of the Wrecking Crew in LA in the 1960’s and they did the instrumental back ups for hundreds of hit songs for other bands. Great guitarist and human being. God bless him!🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
This particular video coming from one of our 70s legends regarding Glenn was most helpful. Thank you Alice Cooper for sharing.
Guys who spent their lives working as musicians know how great Glenn Campbell was as a guitar player, front man, singer, session player. He truly could do it all and make everyone he worked with look forward to the next time. He was a real superstar.
