What kind of things stand out to you and what do you want me to cover in the in-depth review? Are you bummed out by the price and if not, are you outside of the US?
Debating wether i should cancel my order and get an iphone 12 mini or the more expensive 12 instead. I am a stock google fan for nearly a decade and was prepared to pay whatever for the upgrade to the 5 but now im wondering if ill get more bang with the iphone instead
You hit all my buttons with this review, especially on fatal flaw! Why oh why did they crawl into bed with Verizon for such a ridiculous short sighted & limited benefit? 🤔 So how does one of us plain USA citizens get that overseas unlocked model in our pocket?
You echoed pretty much what I expected soon after the reveal. I do think the regular price should be at least $100 less as is. And in my dreams I would like a Pixel 5 Ultra that's basically a Pixel 5 with a SD 865, a 120 HZ screen, sold at the price of the iPhone 12. That's seems perfectly reasonable and I think would actually directly compete with it and do well. Right now I see the Pixel 5 as being a good midranger but not a flagship as it should be. I suppose that's fine but I would like to see a flagship device from them. Three years of upgrades will probably hold up better on a flagship specc'd phone. That said maybe, just maybe if those holiday deals are good enough I'll upgrade my Pixel 3.
Quick question: the bottom of the phone has a hole on each side of the USB port. With the screen facing up which one is the speaker? The left or the right?
I mixed up my words a bit on the disclaimer. I meant to say there are some things we cannot go as technical into in terms of our evaluation because we haven’t had it for long. I plan to do some technical videos on specific things like the camera and comparing it to other pixel devices. A more scientific approach rather than a broad review. This video is still quite in-depth, as many of you would agree. It is almost 20 minutes and I cut out over 15 minutes of script from this video because it was going to be way too technical and weigh the video down. Plus, I’ve been working straight for about 29 hours now on this video and now responding to comments. I’m tired. I didn’t want to make it longer for my sake. Sorry if I made a few errors in how I articulated myself. I’m still really proud of the video and I hope you all enjoy it!
Excellent as always! I would like a deep comparison with de P4XL. It worth the upgrade besides the statics and the ultra wide? Keep the great work!! :D
Could you please run it against a phone with the 8 series processor and 5g running during the test? I am curious to battery life and any difference between WiFi and 5g between the two. What improves , what is worse and how do the two phones compare in what improves and what is worse. I am thinking that an integrated modem makes a far bigger difference than most are willing to say.
Don't you feel bad google abandoned face unlock? Imagine all those users who bought a Pixel 4 thinking face unlock will eventually be widely supported in Android apps only to be abandoned by google in their next Pixel. Would app developers invest on a adding a feature that isn't future proof?
@@tamboyistheman I’m definitely bummed about it going away. I still instinctively wait for my phone to unlock. Honestly, I want both because I also instinctively went for the fingerprint scanner on the back when I used my P4XL
@@ThisIsTechToday Im pretty sure pixel 6 will have face unlock and also soli radar, the only reason why google cut those features is because of the pandemic, no onw would buy a 1,000 dollar pixel phone durinf the pandemic(not many at least) im sorry for my english :( but hey great video i really wnjoy the way you see things, and im very positive about something "Ggole is the most helpful phone!"
The Pixel 5 is amazing, they removed features that weren’t that important and they doubled down on the core experience like battery life, screen brightness, camera, and speed, it’s all there and it’s perfect.
It's the ideal phone for me. I'm sure people with more money to spare would go for the other flagships on the market, but this is a great balance of features. And the cameras are the best in the industry, bar none.
Nothing is perfect! But, if you really like it, go ahead and buy it. Myself, who is an audiophile, will probably keep looking. The other, camera reviews I've seen, are also pretty bad. I will probably just hold onto my s9 a little longer. I used to have an LG G6, that I really liked, so may look at LG again.
Agreed. Just got mine after migrating from iOS and that bastard iPhone XS I wanted to smash into tiny pieces. The Pixel 5 was a warm welcome to Android, actually more like a blow job from Google. Haven't been able to put it down since getting it three days ago!
@@ThisIsTechToday The Pixel 5 isn't as wide as others, better use photosphere for wider pics on the Pixel 5. To be honest, I am really disappointed by Pixel 5, as Google is using the same old h/w on their Pixel devices from the last four generations. I think Google doesn't care about their Pixel devices anymore and it's high time for Google to upgrade their camera h/w...
The only thing I can say that actually keeps me from saying it's been the best most perfect Pixel overall is ... The speakers. The Pixel 4a cheaper phone at $350 sounds like 5 times better, and I mean cleaner, crisper, louder, more low-end bass tones with an obvious earpiece speaker making a huge difference compared to 4a
Yeah but I think speakers on a phone are not that important. I don’t expect a good sound experience when I listen to music ON A PHONE. If I want to listen to music, I’ll just call Alexa or use my surround sound system. So for me, personally, it’s okey as long as I can watch videos and hear what their saying in there.
speakers on a phone is not a deal breaker for me.. in crowd place..most of the time when watching youtube, I just turn on Pixel Live Caption feature .. for more serious listening I'll take out my wireless buds
Yes being in Germany, I had an offer of having Bose QC35 II headphones for free if I pre-order the pixel 5 device which costs 629 euros inclusive of taxes. Actually I ended up paying only 613 euros since taxes are reduced from 19 to 16 percent. Wait, I guess in US you might have to pay for 700+taxes which could be around 770$. It's a killer deal if you live in UK, france, Germany and ireland where you are provided with free headphones offer. And no other UA-cam reviewers did mention about these offers outside of US. Hey people all over the world watch your videos and don't leave them out. Btw you did mention so thank you for that. And immediately I subscribed you. Keep up your good work.
I'm happy you pointed out that this IS the only android phone with symmetrical bezels. It really makes the viewing experience better and i wish other android manufacturers implement this in the future.
@@a.m.3118 the 8t also has a chin. You can see them from the pics. In order to have a symmetric design you have to have a flexible oled display, which the 8t does not.
@@Gunzlife009 you're splitting hairs *literally*, the bezels on a Note 10/note 20 and S20 tea etc are just as thin if not slimmer and the top and bottom bezel differences are so slim you're measuring a few hairs different, and some samsung phone "S20" actually have a real ear piece speaker that sounds way better than the vibrating screen one in the pixel .... Been waiting for this video review after your brilliant "silent" one the other day! I currently have a 3 and it's been the longest I've ever held onto a phone. Here in the UK we get it for £599 and I also got that free Bose deal so it was an absolute no brainer for me. Now just waiting for it to drop.. 😁 Looking forward to that nice big battery..., 👍😊
I've used Nexus and Pixel devices since the nexus 5. I usually upgrade every other year. I have Pixel 3XL. I'm okay with the overall approach they took with the Pixel 5 but I really, really, wish they would release a 6.5" -6.7" QHD version with the smallest possible front facing stereo speakers and a proportionally bigger battery.
@@SeptienPatterson I agree.. For one handed use, squeezing just feels more comfortable than having to bend my long-ass thumb away from the display then downward to the corner to activate the Assistant. Lol
Earned a sub from me, thank you. Been compulsively watching every Pixel 5 review, this is by far the best overview yet, and has helped me decide. I'm still totally happy with my 2 XL, and if it wasn't for updates ending, I'd keep it going another year. But I feel like I'm being forced to "upgrade". I had originally decided to go with the 4a 5G, which hits the sweet spot for me for price and features ... till I realized as a Verizon customer, I'd have to pay the extra $100 mmWave 5G tax, which makes it a lot less attractive, with the 5 then only being an extra $100 ... which is then worth paying, for the aluminum construction, wireless charging, Gorilla 6 and IP68 rating. I'm still a little concerned about the audio, as I'm a big believer in forward facing speakers (I started with the HTC M8, then HTC 10, then Pixel 2 XL), but I've got that 14 day return window with Verizon if I really can't live with the 5's audio. So ... about to pull the trigger on a Sage Green Pixel 5. :)

Excellent review!! I believe Google is committing to material design on a physical level. Moving forward Google should perfect these phone builds in the same manner, and they need their own SOC. Oh and I can't wait for the Moment collaboration. :-)
I bought a Pixel 2XL on launch because I wanted to hold it and not worry about updates. Still holding it today. No battery problem or any real problems at all. Seriously thinking of buying the pixel 5. The plan was the 4. But it wasn't worth it. This is.
I have the 3xl & I was waiting for the 5 & I'm thinking about it too, but I really like the squeeze feature & the front facing speakers :/ & also, I like the feature where you double press lock button to go straight to the camera
If i were you guys, I'd wait for the next pixel. I'm on the pixel 2, I have battery issues. In fact your phones have better speakers. Neural core Image Processor in both phones and not in the pixel 5.
Dear Google, Make the "Pixel Ultra"... Take the Pixel 5 and add back the telephoto to the wide angle cam, Soli, "squeezology" (shout to my boy Floss), 120Hz, Pixel Visual Core, and true stereo speakers. Make it $900. Make a few. Sell them all. #takemymoney
What the heck is a pixel ultra anyways? Making a few is not a good business strategy. The fewer you make the more you have to charge to make it profitable.
@@ThisIsTechToday It can definitely be a good business strategy if it actually sells. Google can continue making devices for the masses while affording to meet the seemingly niche market that wants all the "bells and whistles". Kinda like how "halo" cars work in the automotive industry. It's all about execution.
Everything I read about the 765G over the 8 series is because it is integrated modem rather than needing a separate card, overall speed and battery life is significantly higher. The extra modem along with the energy to move data back and forth significantly slows down the phone making the faster process have in real day to day performance negligible improvements over the 765. If you don't want to put 5g on the device, go for the 865. If you do, you are better off with the 765g, both in overall performance and battery life.
Love the phone for its size & even bezels. Love the wireless charging too. I do all my phone calls thru my blue tooth hearing aids so the behind the glass speaker is not an issue for me. The phone is exactly what I was looking for. I'm coming from the Pixel 2XL. I will wait for a $100 off sale event. That I think is a great price for this phone. Frankly , I don't think $699 is out of line.
Just got my Pixel 5 today, typing on it now, sorta sage! I am totally loving how this thing feels in my hands lol I was a previous Pixel 4 owner, disappointed by battery life and face unlock during times of wearing a mask. In the UK the Pixel 5 was available for pre-order with a free pair Bose QC 35ii bundled with it, essentially making the cost more like this: £350 for Pixel 5 + £250 for Bose Headphones... Total bargain!! Anyway, my biggest worry, was that 765G. My word, I couldn't tell a difference between my obviously on paper faster Pixel 4. In fact, I had to download Real Racing 3 to actually force a stutter and frame drop lol. In normal and not heavy 3D gaming, this thing does it like a champ! The camera app is much better now, ultrawide is very very nice to have, and Google's processing on it is brilliant! Anyway, any questions, ask here, I'll happily answer and with honesty as I'm not a fanboy. In fact I almost thought of returning my Pixel 5 (before I got it) for the iPhone 12 haha!
@@TealTrump11 I recommended sticking with the Pixel 5. The iPhone 12 is an excellent phone. But imo, unless you're a heavy 3D gamer, the Pixel 5's bigger screen, better battery (iPhone mini has a tiny battery along with iPhone 12) is the better choice! Not to mention, fingerprint during mask wearing times is a godsend!
Good honest review focusing on the major points.im a huge Google fan and have been since the Nexus product line, including being a Google fi subscriber. Currently still in a 2 XL. That said, every year I seem to wait with excitement for the fall hoping to replace my device with something from Google that really wows. Price is important yes, but good fictional (not gimmicky) advancements are worth spending a few hundred dollars more if your like me and keep your device for 3 or so years. But every release year since pixel 2 Google just managed to not excel, or simply completely disappoints. Every year I watch the Apple event around the same time, and they wow, with real advancements, and improvements on a consistent design. Every year Google completely changes the design. From generation to generation there is no consistency. They remove feature that people love, like stereo front speakers (a signature design concept) and add silly things like radar (which has no practical use). Their design team is all over the place with no consistent natural feeling upgrade. I want my new Pixel to be like my old Pixel I love, but better. That's how Apple has been successful in keeping, and growing, their customer base. Your next iPhone is familiar and a lot like your old iphone, but better. Five generations of pixels and Google is still throwing s**t at the wall to see what sticks.
Kudos Brandon, appreciate your comprehensive, thoughtful reviews. Your Delight To Dollar Ratio theme is brilliant! After enjoying several Nexus / Pixel models, I'll buy the 5 when it’s on sale.
It's rare to see the previous model be better in any way versus the new model. In this case the Pixel 4XL has a bigger screen, more PPI, better speakers, better processor, inclusion of Telephoto, Face Unlock, Project Soli to name a few. I just don't see why you would want to pay to "upgrade" if you already have the 4XL. Simply trading some features for others. Definitely not a net gain.
Great review, Brandon! I agree the price should be 599.00 instead of 699.00. However, I will be getting the Pixel 5 and have already ordered from Google store. It will replace my 4XL, which replaced my 3XL, which replaced my 2XL, which replaced my Pixel XL, which replaced my ... you get the point ... all the way back to Nexus 4, skipping only the chunky Nexus 6. So, I guess you could say I am a pixel fan. The fact of the matter is I love my 4XL except for the RAM! 6GB is not enough today, just like 4GB was not enough with the 3XL. I am hopeful that 8GB of RAM will provide the type of multitasking experience I'm looking for. As for the battery, while it generally hasn't been an issue with me on the 4XL (recently I got over 6 hours SOT on my 1 year old 4XL and on most normal days get 5+ hours SOT) I am definitely excited about the prospect of significantly better battery life than I get today. I guess (thanks to you!!! :) ) I'm mostly worried about the speaker quality now! I know how important audio quality is to you. So, how bad is it? If this were $599 and not $699, would it be the phone for you, or is the speaker quality a deal-breaker?
The battery is so good. I'm so blown away. The speaker is frustrating, for sure. I do have to be realistic and say that I often listen to podcast with earbuds so my use of the speakers has been progressively declined. I wouldn't say it's a deal breaker, it's just disappointing.
@@ThisIsTechToday got it. Thanks Brandon! I'm better prepared now! And I've got a few weeks to convince myself that I don't care about no stinking phone speakers anyway 🤣
Superb assessment of the Pixel 5 and its pros and cons. I was alarmed by the 'fatal flaw' headline, having pre-ordered (arriving tomorrow). Fortunately, my fear was unfounded. I'm one of those non-US (UK) folk who is profiting from the £599 price with Bose QC35ii headphones (worth £230) thrown in, and the benefit of decent 5G coverage. As such, feel fully vindicated in my choice. Used to be an iPhone guy but I love the utilitarian nature of this device and the fact that 'it just works'. Google have adopted a Scandinavian minimalist aesthetic and I think the Pixel 5 is best summed up by the Swedish concept of 'lagom', which translates roughly as 'just enough is perfect'!
Right!!!! I have the pixel 3xl & I'm always using the squeeze feature! I use it while I'm driving when the music is too loud & it doesn't hear me say "okay Google" 😭😭😭
@@ThisIsTechToday I trust you...😉 You'll get it.... Plus you are the only UA-camr who always gives a fair chance to pixel phones ... For that I respect you and your feedback...👍
I don't find the Pixel 5 to be too expensive! I think it is a good price. Not perfect, but good. I just wish they at least released one flagship phone, which I believe they will do next year, hopefully. I miss the squeeze, and project Soli is pretty useful; if you bother to learn how to use. For now, I'll be sticking to me 4 XL.
I’m looking to upgrade from my iPhone 7 and am considering the pixel 5- will I even notice the compromises mentioned, especially as far as speakers are concerned? Hoping for some guidance!
2 questions. You and other reviewers said IP68 but on the Google Store it's stated IPX8, so which is it? Also how well does the under glass speaker sound if you put a screen protector on it? Would really like to hear from you, thanks 😊
@@narenprk2003 technical Guruji makes video on smartphone if it sponsers him only Example he now lives in Dubai he could get pixel 5 but he didn't cuz they didn't sponser him
I’m in the UK, so yes £599 is a great deal, plus the Bose headphones. Not only that, but they also offer the phone on a pay monthly interest free option. I wasn’t due to upgrade this year, I bought the pixel 4 but the much better battery and interest free purchase option appealed. The Pixel 4 was still a good buy last year with a free HP 14” Chromebook (which was a godsend for my daughter in lockdown), but I think the headline price and 5g capability makes it even better value this year. The main issue is availability! Even when I ordered mine on day 1 or 2 of orders, sorta sage was out of stock, leaving just black as the only option. Mine is not due to be delivered until 3rd November! Both were out of stock on the google store for some time, and on Amazon they are now over £1,000 due to the lack of stock availability, which is crazy.
I think because the camera system is THE draw to Pixel (save the clean OS) leaving out the neural core is a major misstep. Google should also increase the number of updates the Pixel line receives to counter Samsung's latest move.
Great video as always Brandon! I'm in the UK so will probably pick one up. 2020 US 5G pricing aside, I think you can see a focus in the 5 that hasn't been there before. However, I hope targeting that iPhone 12 pricing leaves room for 'pro' models with Google silicon and updated camera hardware in (next year 🤞😁)
Thanks. Thoughful and well reasoned review. I have the 4a and have purchased the 5 for the wife (she is very hard on phones). And I agree, that extra $100 was very hard to swallow. Hope Google listens to this because I think you are spot on with this review
Well, this video made me subscribe. That unboxing video with your headphones on still has my eardrums recovering after I stuck a toothpick in em 🙄 I have the note 10 plus but decided to grab this on verizon. Really liking how it sounds and I'm sure there isn't an hour difference in speed with the 765g. Great video 👍🏼
How was the cellphone signal reception? Are there antenna lines on the phone like there was on the oneplus 3 to ensure that the all aluminum body does not interfere with the cellphone signal? Thank you for your honest reviews. You are one of my go to trusted reviewers.
Thank you so much for making such substantive reviews. I really love that you take it a step further and don't just state the obvious like alot of other reviewers do.
I am on my third Samsung S7 replacement...and there are issues with it. I have been strongly considering getting the Google Pixel 5 - because of the battery life - but I have concerns. 1) I live in the rural area of Mt. Hood...I will probably never see 5G in our area; 2) Do you believe that Google will come out with a software / firmware update to take care of either sound or video / picture issues? Living in the States is there a way to purchase this phone from overseas? I really do not want to get an Apple and I am very leery of Samsung...but I need a replacement phone. What other recommendations are there? I do not need - or want - a high end featured phone that costs me to sacrifice grandchildren on the alter to be able to afford it.
First time viewer and now subscribed. Great review! Best review I've seen yet. I have the 3XL and am so torn. Do I just get the 4XL or go to the 5? Etc. The speaker situation really sucks though... I'd love to see comparisons with the previous flagships. I love the lighting behind you too (and your voice is smooth like chocolate. 😂 Cute af too. Dkm)
Excellent review Brandon! I live in The Netherlands and tomorrow I'm picking up my Pixel 5 Sorta Sage in Germany, for €613,- a really good price! Other question, how is the 4a 5G? And are the speakers better than on the 5? Greetings from Holland 👌
Great review bro, one of the only reviewer who spoke about the proximity sensor and that led Indicator. Can you please tell me what the Flicker sensors does ? Nobody seems to talk about it and what is it real life benefits?
The fact that I have a nice gaming PC and a 165hz monitor is precisely why I don't care about 90hz and a less powerful CPU. If I want to play games I'll just use my computer, mobile games are terrible, and for everyday use 90hz is basically indistinguishable from 120hz.
For your in depth technical review, can you talk about the features that come with the pixel 5? I know the squeeze feature is gone like you mentioned but does it still have the feature where you double press the lock button & takes it straight to the camera? Thank you! You gained a new subscriber here!(: Great content!
Great video and I am glad you discussed the design philosophy and brought up the "Delight to dollar ratio" I own the 4a and would have gone with the 5 had I been able to keep my OG pixel for 2 months longer but still am pleased with what it offers at its price point. I do think Google will come back to the $1000 dollar market with a phone again in the future but I think they will do so with a folding phone. As for what Google offers, Now owning the 4a the amount of great tricks the assistant does for me on a daily basis, I can't see myself using another phone. The fact that my assistant talks to the person that is calling me before I even pick up is so tremendously useful, and the always listening to show what music is playing has been great, these lil everyday life features are the reason I keep coming back now, more so than just the great camera.
The speaker quality baffles me. I'm really liking my Pixel 5 in general, but the bottom speaker on my S8 is just way better. @@davidletterboyz I only have the S8 to compare to, but yeah it seems ridiculous that my 3 year old phone is better for that bit, even if the Pixel 5 is better at everything else. Guess I hope they fix that for the Pixel 8 next time I upgrade !P
@@lizzyblitz07 Yes the screen looks better, especially when scrolling (i.e. Where the 90Hz kicks in). I'm actually quite surprised as I was worried that going to a lower resolution might be a problem, and for me at least it definitely is not.
Great review. My concern is the performance in the camera. As you show, it takes time to process a single picture. Can the P5 even take burst shots? So as Google is focused on computational photography, what happens next year, or 2 years from now. If they create a Pixel 6 with a better processor to run new gcam features can the pixel 5 run them well if they take time on each photo now. Long term it may be an issue.
Fantastic review Brandon @This Is Tech Today ! You really do have fab production, and the best reviews... I wish Google would take notes! However, I'm planning to pass it onto my teenage daughter who needs a new phone... If I can ever decide on what to choose... Another Pixel 3a XL? Pixel 4a (why is it less than the 3a XL?), 4a 5g? Can't wait for all those in-depth videos you mentioned you would do! Great video and unbiased, and love all the knowledge you are giving your viewers. Thank you! I was lucky enough to be outside the US and got the Bose deal with the preorder I thought it was a no brainer! I ordered the pixel 5 ! , But to be honest... I wish Google made a pixel phone with the pixel 4 hardware and pixel 5 screen and battery ... Just imagine the oh so orange or panda colors with full display! It would be the perfect pixel ...
I've seen 5 youtube reviews of Pixel 5 and yours is the best: I especially like the in depth discussion of the speakers and call quality, something so important to user experience that often gets overlooked or short shrift by reviewers enamored of shiny objects. One thing though: I find the fast pace of your speech hard to keep up with at times and a bit tiring in doing so. thank you
Yes! Moment lens collab! If only google photos could do auto squeeze for anamorphic picture ratio, using moment’s anamorphic lens on pixel would be so much fun
Your reviews are the best. I like switching things up I’ve had a iPhone 11 since release and I enjoy switching it up so pixel 5 is my next phone. Also I hate the way Apple processes images I really like the trademark pixel look especially when it comes to human subjects.
As a US resident who bought his phone in Taiwan (for $599), you’re the first reviewer who has emphasized this disparity and why it exists (placating Verizon), props to you. Everyone else just goes, “Google whiffed it by pricing it at $699, it should be $599”. And I have a strong sense of why. Carriers still have humongous sway in the US (Verizon got like 30 mins of Apple’s keynote). I suspect that Verizon said, “If you want us to sell your phone, you need to put mmWave in it”, and if Google said, “Ok, we’ll sell your phone for $699 and T-Mobile, AT&T etc for $599”, Verizon would also snub them because it would make it obvious their version was worse (and mmWave wasn’t worth it). So in order to launch on all carriers, they had to cave, and now have a phone that’s $100 too much and 2 weeks late.
Hey bro you are really good at what you do, keep up the good work. I'm really pumped for getting the pixel 5 and I have a pixel 4 but the battery sucks and with us wearing fast masks now I need the finger print reader🙂. I'm gonna wait until the Thanksgiving deal to get it though because I don't feel it's a $700 device.
I'm in Canada, and was really surprised to see that the Pixel 5 was only $799 CAD, especially when $699 USD actually converts to around $918 CAD in the current exchange rate. I agree with you on the fact that the Pixel 5 is a great buy for anyone that doesn't live in the US. This is especially surprising when you compare the iPhone 12 mini, which is $699 USD but $979 CAD. It's bizarre to me how you can have two phones both priced at $699 USD but then priced almost $200 different in Canada. Definitely considering the Pixel 5 as a step up from my Pixel 2XL.
You all realize I was working on this video for 34 hours straight? Give me a break. Also, with tax, the pixel 5 is still more than $750 USD and doesn’t include the headphones.
The image processing lag is due to the fact that they omitted the neural core and Pixel Visual Core. It increased the image processing power by about 5 times. Thank you for covering that. No one else has!
Thanks for explaining the extra costs companies has to bare to accommodate the 865+5G modem, however as you said its a 100$ too much. But as you said I'm from Germany and with the Bose headphones it's a steal deal!
Hello! I commented a few years ago on one of your pixel 2xl videos. I'm glad to say still on my 2xl! I'm skipping this 5. The 2xl's front facing speakers are just too good. Sadly, I think I'd be downgrading if I switched to the 5.
The 5 is amazing, and damn that color on the sage green is drool worthy. But I am still glad I went with the 4a instead, solely for the "delight to dollar ratio" you mentioned. With the 4a doing all the "core" things that the 5 can do, I don't regret the purchase for a second. Maybe I will switch back to the "flagship" line when the 4a stops getting it's updates in a few years. Maybe not! The "a" line might be even better by then! Only thing I actually miss is IP rating, and only because I'm paranoid.
Outside the US, the price varies from country to country. The one you pointed out is the UK price of 599 British Pound Sterling . So the price doesn't go for "essentially" 599 USD because 599 Pound is 780 USD. Same goes for the price of the phone in Germany, which costs 613,14 € or 720 USD.
Love your reviews. Got the 4xl based on it. The 5 seems decent especially in terms of screen to body ratio. Only small downside of my 4xl is size in pocket but so glad I got it as I use a lot of the Google assistant features. A friend of mine is looking to upgrade from his iPhone XS to either Pixel 5. Would the Pixel be a good option? He isn't really looking for the fastest phone on the market
How does top speaker performs for a normal call at outsides or a barely crowded place or walking in a traffic jam? I can t use bluetooth headphones all the time.
6:55 Yes, I would absolutely love to know how the Pixel 5 compares against the 4/4XL in zoomed in SuperRes Zoom shots. I have a 4XL which I use for macro photography, would absolutely love to see if the 2x telephoto on the 4 makes it pull ahead, even if by little, versus the Pixel 5. Thanks Brandon!
This is the first positive review I've watched. And you seem to be the first one to explain that this is designed to be the best phone for battery life for the $$$
Thank you for covering the speaker and audio quality. That is a deal breaker for me because I listen to music and podcast all day while at work with my phone. Got a sub from me.

🚨 QOTD: What do you think about the Google Pixel 5?
So how does one of us plain USA citizens get that overseas unlocked model in our pocket?
Agreed.
I love the design of the Pixel, it's nice to see something different (like you said)!
It does look great!
The Pixel 4a cheaper phone at $350 sounds like 5 times better, and I mean cleaner, crisper, louder, more low-end bass tones with an obvious earpiece speaker making a huge difference compared to 4a
100% absolutely spot on!
But symmetrical bezels dude 😂
Yeah but I think speakers on a phone are not that important. I don’t expect a good sound experience when I listen to music ON A PHONE. If I want to listen to music, I’ll just call Alexa or use my surround sound system. So for me, personally, it’s okey as long as I can watch videos and hear what their saying in there.
speakers on a phone is not a deal breaker for me.. in crowd place..most of the time when watching youtube, I just turn on Pixel Live Caption feature .. for more serious listening I'll take out my wireless buds
true, but I don't care about speakers at all. I'm always on my headphones or buds when on a call, listening to podcasts, or watching UA-cam videos.
Seems they’re giving away Boses because of the sneaker quality. I’m hoping the same offer comes to the US 🤞🏽
Your video production quality is incredible, best video on the Pixel 5 I've seen today! :)
Thank you!!

It is pretty nice!
Nope op 8t symetrical aswell
@@a.m.3118 the 8t also has a chin. You can see them from the pics. In order to have a symmetric design you have to have a flexible oled display, which the 8t does not.

Thank you so much! Please share it with others!

Excellent review!! I believe Google is committing to material design on a physical level. Moving forward Google should perfect these phone builds in the same manner, and they need their own SOC. Oh and I can't wait for the Moment collaboration. :-)
What we've always wanted!
Dear Google,
Make the "Pixel Ultra"...
Take the Pixel 5 and add back the telephoto to the wide angle cam, Soli, "squeezology" (shout to my boy Floss), 120Hz, Pixel Visual Core, and true stereo speakers.
Make it $900. Make a few. Sell them all.
#takemymoney
Hands down Id pay extra for a triplecam setup!
Agreed
Day one sale!
I am totally loving how this thing feels in my hands lol
I was a previous Pixel 4 owner, disappointed by battery life and face unlock during times of wearing a mask.
US buyer. Should i stop my order and get iphone 12? Ive been a google mytouch 3g/ nexus5/ pixel 1 owner for nearly a decade now.
People get worked up about paper specs so much, but I care about actual experience. The processor in the pixel 5 is great.
@@ThisIsTechToday I'll stick to my gut and stay with P5
Initial review? Your title includes the words "In-Depth Review"
The pixel 4 and 4xl have the Neural core and the 5 doesn't for image processing.

@@ThisIsTechToday the anger was communicated effectively lol
I think because the camera system is THE draw to Pixel (save the clean OS) leaving out the neural core is a major misstep. Google should also increase the number of updates the Pixel line receives to counter Samsung's latest move.
Great video as always Brandon! I'm in the UK so will probably pick one up. 2020 US 5G pricing aside, I think you can see a focus in the 5 that hasn't been there before. I am on my third Samsung S7 replacement...and there are issues with it. I have been strongly considering getting the Google Pixel 5 - because of the battery life - but I have concerns. 1) I live in the rural area of Mt.
Does the wide angle camera makes taking panorama photo easier? Like less spin/photos for 360 photo?

@@lizzyblitz07 Yes the screen looks better, especially when scrolling (i.e. Where the 90Hz kicks in). It feels like it doesn't go as bright but I'm not sure how much that matters - Unfortunately I have no bright sunlight right now to do a better comparison ^^.
Can you elaborate on the display color accuracy in your full technical review?
Fantastic review Brandon @This Is Tech Today ! You really do have fab production, and the best reviews... I wish Google would take notes! I went from a nexus 4, to a beloved nexus 6p, and I'm now very happy with my Pixel 3a XL (major delight to $ experience!). However, I'm planning to pass it onto my teenage daughter who needs a new phone... If I can ever decide on what to choose... Another Pixel 3a XL? Pixel 4a (why is it less than the 3a XL?), 4a 5g? Or just go for the 5??? 🤷♀️
Always looking forward to hearing more of your insights! Thanks for all the work you put into these reviews and their production!! Ya nailed it!
Can't wait for all those in-depth videos you mentioned you would do! Great video and unbiased, and love all the knowledge you are giving your viewers. Thank you! I was lucky enough to be outside the US and got the Bose deal with the preorder I thought it was a no brainer! I feel like the ONLY reason Google put the Pixel 5 at $699 is for them to have it on sale quite often!
I ordered the pixel 5 ! , But to be honest...
I wish Google made a pixel phone with the pixel 4 hardware and pixel 5 screen and battery ...
Just imagine the oh so orange or panda colors with full display! It would be the perfect pixel ...
@thisistechtoday got any suggestions for camera lens with telescope and wide-angle?
I love moment lenses and cases! myte.ch/moment
I pre ordered the Pixel 5 at $699 only because I've been wanting a Pixel for the longest time now and because my current phone is cracked :/
I've seen 5 youtube reviews of Pixel 5 and yours is the best: I especially like the in depth discussion of the speakers and call quality, something so important to user experience that often gets overlooked or short shrift by reviewers enamored of shiny objects. One thing though: I find the fast pace of your speech hard to keep up with at times and a bit tiring in doing so. thank you
Thanks. Please share the video around!
Awesome video!!
Very strong argument about the price!
Can you notify if it goes on sale? Looking forward to get it if the price drops
Yes! Moment lens collab!
If only google photos could do auto squeeze for anamorphic picture ratio, using moment’s anamorphic lens on pixel would be so much fun
Ohhhh, that would be so convenient!
Is it a bit cold in you studio?😁😅 Just messin with ya! Great vid as always mr B
Stop it.
Also is it brighter then the 4xl?
Wife has the 7t. Curious if this is an upgrade and more of a use for my Wife who does makeup and beauty pics?
@this is tech guy.. how is the haptics on the pixel 5 compared to iPhone
Talked about that in Fit, Finish, and Build.
Did he just compared GBP to USD ?? Because 599 £ is actually more than 750 $ ...
then he called a pair of headphones earbuds! come on!
But the bose headphone alone are worth 300$
You all realize I was working on this video for 34 hours straight? Give me a break.
Also, with tax, the pixel 5 is still more than $750 USD and doesn’t include the headphones.
What is the power output of the reverse wireless charger? How long will it take to charge the Pixel Buds?
Are the 4xl speakers better ?
The 5 is amazing, and damn that color on the sage green is drool worthy. But I am still glad I went with the 4a instead, solely for the "delight to dollar ratio" you mentioned. With the 4a doing all the "core" things that the 5 can do, I don't regret the purchase for a second.
Maybe I will switch back to the "flagship" line when the 4a stops getting it's updates in a few years. Maybe not! The "a" line might be even better by then!
Only thing I actually miss is IP rating, and only because I'm paranoid.
Outside the US, the price varies from country to country. The one you pointed out is the UK price of 599 British Pound Sterling
My favourites are squeeze assist and would you believe always on music 🎶 identification

Yes, I would absolutely love to know how the Pixel 5 compares against the 4/4XL in zoomed in SuperRes Zoom shots.
I have a 4XL which I use for macro photography, would absolutely love to see if the 2x telephoto on the 4 makes it pull ahead, even if by little, versus the Pixel 5.
Thanks Brandon!
I really do enjoy your reviews
This is the first positive review I've watched. And you seem to be the first one to explain that this is designed to be the best phone for battery life for the $$$
Thank you for covering the speaker and audio quality. That is a deal breaker for me because I listen to music and podcast all day while at work with my phone. Got a sub from me.
Great video. I'm torn bc Ive always been a top tier phone guy last yr I switched to pixel 4xl and this yr I'm not sure what to do pixel 5 is it a downgrade or upgrade on the 4xl? Or should I get the note 20 ultra. Great vid keep it up I subscribed.
It's my first time watching a video in your channel and all I can say is the quality of your video is A+ amazing!!!. Keep up the good work. Subscribing now!!! Looking forward to your future videos.
Any improvements with the daylights shots of pixel 5 and pixel 4?
I'm going to check that out a bit more in depth so stay tuned!
