3 Ways To Develop Your Intuition

  • A lot of people think intuition is just for psychics, but rest assured, it is not. Intuition is our biological birthright and when we are regulated (in our nervous system) we ALL have access to this supersonic skill. When we have it online it guides us. It tells us who to trust, what to eat, when to rest, what our work should be, how to create, and more. (From my experience, those who do not have this online, or those who deny it and refuse to work on improving it, really struggle. Their decisions, relationships and health, are often a never ending cycle of disappointment and struggle.) But here’s the thing - this natural intelligence, this intuition, gets bleached out of us when we are not cared for and attuned to. Cultural conditioning also robs it from us. For example, the moment we domesticated plants and animals we started this domino effect of shapeshifting and molding nature to be convenient for us, which in turn, has been at the expense of our organic need for flow and rhythm and of course, our health. The good news is we can get this flow, rhythm, and health BACK. And we can get it back even in the face of domestication, industry, and tech. Heck, if anything, I’m seeing that we needed to wait until this very moment, in the year 2020, to finally GET this reality, but I digress… From my experience, both professionally and personally, getting our intuition back starts with what I outline in this video.

Speaking up is something I had to push my boys do in school...self advocacy! It is part of authenticity and honesty to ourselves...speak up! Everyone is responsible for our own reactions and responses...including others! 😊

It always makes me smile when my children leave one grape or one piece of pepper on their plates when they have finished, as I know they are listening to their cues of feeling full. 💖

Yes yes yes! Sometimes intuition gets confused with the "untrustworthy" habits of our thoughts & emotions. Underneath our habits is a natural knowing. Sensations & messages of what we want & don't want lives within each moment. We just need to re-learn to listen to our very beings. Thank you for sharing how to better listen to ouselves :)

I agree, but it's not easy. Everything is so "noisy" these days that we need time, patience and practice to master listening to our inner voices.

And when you are child sometimes needing/wanting to go to the toilet is another way of getting 5 minutes of time out. A rest, a breather. And as adults do we do this too. Well I do. A resource.

    Very interesting and helpful.
I remember as a child that I felt exactly to the bite when I had to stop eating and my mom was so surprised that I could tell when I had my last bite and could not take another. It was easy for me to stop eating then.
Nowadays I don't feel it often and if I do I do feel it, somehow I sabotage myself and keep on eating because it tastes so good.
I love your explanation about movement. How it can awaken intuition and creativity. I dance in a Biodanza group and there we do exactly that: biologically dancing. No linear or structured dance moves, but following our body.
It's a wonderful setting to practice with feeling my body: how my body wants to move, what the dance does inside my body.
Thank you for this compact teaching! 🤗🙏🏼

I think listening to your body's needs for sleep and rest is equally important as hunger and bathroom in to pt. 2!

Do you take questions from the comments? I have been wondering why I feel the need to isolate myself so much now that I am working with my trauma. Is there an explanation for this? Everyone tells me I shouldn't be doing this and and that community is important and I agree, but it just feels right to be alone and I can only feel safe when I'm alone.
Also how does loneliness connect to trauma?

Hi Sarepaar! Irene doesn't answer questions directly, but Nicole and I (my name is Seth) are both trained somatic trauma specialists and we answer the questions on Irene's UA-cam channel.
What you describe can be a tricky situation. There is a degree to which we actually need more space and time alone to process when we start healing this stuff. If we have survived trauma then it is likely that we perceive others as inherently dangerous, no matter how safe they seem. This may not be a conscious perception, but it's very common for the nervous system and psyche to perceive any other persona s potentially dangerous when we have been traumatized, so as we are unearthing that trauma and working with it, it can be important to have time and space away so that are system is not constantly activated by the presence of other people.
AND - we do need other people. Fundamentally we are social people and cannot heal totally in isolation. So the important thing is to find a balance that works for you. It may be at the start that one night a week being around others is plenty, and then you have the rest of the week to soak up that interaction and do your work. Then, as you get better and your capacity increases, you could increase the amount of time you spend with others. Another way to work with this is to limit your interactions to just one or two close people. If you can talk some about what you are going through and discovering in your process with those you socialize with, that is ideal.

Hi team! Question around trusting our body’s instincts. This is a strange one so bear with me. I was diagnosed with IBS about 3 years ago and obviously until now didn’t realize it was nervous system related. Regardless I was constantly peeing bc the bladder would get pressed by the rectum and blockage Etc. My doctor at the time told me to train my bladder by not going when I need to pee. However now that I’m starting the work and listening to my body I find myself going more often. However due to this illness this means going around every 20 minutes or so which is a bit impractical. My question is - is there a balance between needing to sort of guide the body intellectually sometimes and still allowing the space for the nervous system and body to communicate with the mind? Another similar example that comes to mind is maybe picking up a different way of eating and your body not enjoying it in the beginning while getting used to it. I’m not sure if those are similar use cases but it’s been stressing me out as I want to start listening but I also get frustrated by the constant need to go to the bathroom because of the illness

HI Liz A, Jen here from Team Lyon. Interesting question. I am familiar with the practice of training the body not to pee when the signaling system may be overactive, and in the nervous system work we generally find that as people do the foundational healing work the signaling changes too (assuming there is not a structure issue). In the meantime, if you choose to not listen to the body's signals at times, you might explore being in communication with your body the way you would with a friend. For example, "I hear that you're giving me a sign that you need to go, and I sense there's more space in there and am going to wait 20 minutes." or whatever feels authentic and resonant to you.
