Are you sure it was this stuff? There is no scientific evidence that this Polyvagal Therapy works. While the vagus nerve does play a role in transmitting and integrating emotion-related signals between the brain and the rest of the body, there is no evidence to suggest that it has any control over such behavior.
@@sofiafantin5280I see you didn’t get a response, maybe they didn’t get your question, but I found breathwork to be very calming to the nervous system. It helped me to connect with my body, has been grounding. Look up breathwork to understand more about this if interested. Hope this helps..Best to you!
This is the most helpful video I have ever watched. I have been trying to heal my childhood traumas for years and getting nowhere. Thank you for sharing.
This is exactly what I needed to find right now. I’m going through a lot of changes right now with my mental health. I have been making positive changes, but it’s been overwhelming and my way of coping with overwhelm is, on top of learning how to sit with my emotions, is research. I’ve been through a lot of trauma, some childhood, some domestic, some alcohol dependency related, but I’m healing now and it’s nice to know what going on in my noggin and still give myself kudos for how far I’ve come.
I had to mix my meditation with journaling. Meditation doesn't make you anxious, it just shows how severely anxious you already are. it's like a weird mirror. If you don't have counseling or don't reflect on your life and feelings - seeing that mirror is frightening. Also popular meditation is always the sitting still and trying to silence a mind. Well if you experience trauma - how can you tell your brain to quiet? Your brain is screaming, lol. So do the meditation that works for you. I have ADD - meditation is lying in bed or doing gardening. When my brain feels safe, then it quiets. Remember, you and your body are healing together.
That upbringing was straight in the 60s. Not to mention many other factors in my young life. Glad to be attempting to heal at the age of 63. This all sounds so me.Ty❤️
you are incredible!! been battling mysterious physical and mental health issues for quite some time now and have been researching so much about trauma and it’s link to chronic illness - and it’s funny, i keep telling everyone “i feel like my nervous system is out of whack or misfiring - it’s something new every week!” - just embarked on a neuroplastic journey not too long ago and i haven’t been holding myself accountable as much as i should. your approach is so refreshing. i look forward to continuing binging your videos!!
I have noticed since I have been watching your videos and talk, my nervous systems seems to be more calmer; I can't explain it but you have made me become aware of it, like a holistic living system thats connected to everything. When you speak I can see how all your nervous systems are in harmony and it is very calming and spiritual feeling which I like and are drawn too.
YES!!!!! This is how I feel. Some things don’t need re-wiring, they instead need to be wired for the first time !!!!!! So much resonates with me. Thank you 🙏
Good stuff! I recently started an exercise program with the help of a trainer and look at it as physical therapy. I come from that dysfunctional family background and know how to close off feelings. So when the trainer asks things like how did your body feel after the last session, it takes a moment for me to come up with a coherent answer. These training sessions are baby steps for me to become more active with my body and in the world. It's giving me permission to focus incrementally and not rush to the nearest gym to pump iron. Be well all. Thank you Irene.
Thank you so much for your channel. It is been very helpful and informative. I've been recovering from my childhood traumas for over a decade now and during this time I've seen many psychotherapists. Sometimes those interactions have been more retraumatizing than actually healing. I feel like my own inner work and research from UA-cam, studies and books have helped me a whole lot more. For example, I was seeing a specialized traumatherapist who always engouraged me to focus on that part of the body where I felt the pain or numbness. That usually made me feel so much more disconnected and unsafe. She also encouraged me to just keep on deep breathing although I said to her that I just can't do that now no matter how hard I try. Then sometimes when big feelings like anger was coming on the surface and I started to feel helpless in the session she came into my chaos and started to fix it. When I said that I want to take a moment to regulate and can you please back of a little and give me space she couldn't do that and instead she started to ask me questions like "Well, how do you want me to help you then". At that point I just went to completele freeze. I've had similar experiences with many therapists. It also happens in several other occasions like in sport hobbies and even with singing classes. When you start to feel like your body is or is getting into freeze or other survival mode and you start to get panic and become passive people usually just seem to automatically push more. Give more advices, ask questions, even punishment.. Just about everything that just makes you feel more insecure. I cannot understand that. But I guess it just shows that most of us actually don't understand and listen to our bodies and when we see others in pain or helpless we cannot feel compassion and be there for them because we can't keep our own system separate from others and take the pressure off to create safety. That is a common pattern and cycle I see a lot. What you explain in your videos makes perfect sense to me and that is what I have learned through my own experiences and studies. But still it would be so helpful to find more interactions that actually helps you feel more safe because although I'm starting to understand myself, make progress with healing and connecting with my body I find it very hard to feel safe with other people and confronting them just keeps on triggering my body and leave me dissosiated for days or even weeks. It takes so much time for me to get my nervous system calm again. Sometimes it has made me isolate for long periods of time. On the other hand isolation helps with the safety but at the same time it can also enlarge the void between the connection and trust with other people. That is a conflict I find very hard to solve and I feel like it limits my life so much. I can't do things I'd like to because it takes so much time for me to recover from these interactions with people. And very rare people seem to understand. Sometimes it's so frustrating to try to explain yourself to people who just don't see or hear you and who keep on forcing and judging and systematically belittling your experiences.
Hi Annastiina, Seth here from Team Lyon. There is SO much wisdom in what you've written above and I couldn't agree with you more about how hard it is to find people, even those who are supposedly professionals in the trauma healing world, who actually understand trauma, how to work with it, and who aren't themselves traumatized and in fear. All I can say is that we here at Team Lyon got your back! Please keep watching the videos on this channel and if it fells like it would be helpful, know that Irene has created two online programs for people to do the work in their own home, and the biggest reason she created these was because of what you describe: there just are not enough good practitioners who really get it in order to meet the demand. I'll put the links to those programs below in case you feel like checking them out. This is so helpful. I just restarted therapy for childhood trauma and since I just got started, the first session triggered an avalanche of memories and feelings. On one hand it felt good to learn something about myself but then I needed answers and researched and got totally overwhelmed my own body physically got up and walked away from the computer. I wasn’t listening to my body and I went too fast. This video was very helpful ❤️
Thank you!Am doing a brain retraining programme at the moment for chronic fatigue syndrome and this was really helpful. My upbringing was really stressful and I've always known that this affected my body.
I've been working through this the past few years and the biggest critics I've had to deal with have been my "care team" who don't get on board with anything until they "discover" it themselves months after I bring it up.

Very clear. Good outline of relationship towards mindfulness in the healing journey... ...I practised neuroplasticity, [on myself] with permanent success.
@@mariamshaikh9879 Firstly, we need to connect with other human beings. Something you have just begun, Mariam. Finding suitable health professionals for help. I believe that we all should have a breathing function test. I had so much wrong with me- I did not know where to start.
Thank you so much! I’ll totally get your e-book. One of the problems I have is depersonalization-derealization disorder (I’ve had it for over ten years) and in stationary treatment they advised me to be mindful and meditate and it does help, just the mindfulness mindset did already help me a lot to move to the right direction but it helps only to a degree and then it doesn’t anymore. I used to make body scans every day for about 9 months and at the beginning it was helpful and I was a little calmer and then it got really bad, I almost couldn’t get endure staying still for five minutes because my whole body felt like a thousand ants were running all over it. I saw that as me having to learn to cope with my anxiety and after a while it did get better. But then after another while it got worse again and I didn’t have the energy to do this fight again so I stopped. But I am still meditating every once in a while although it’s difficult because it has teached me to focus my system and get out of the flight mechanisms I am living in all the time, even if it’s just a bit. I still get really anxious because I can’t deal with myself yet. My experience when I try to stop and look inside is more like I am looking and then falling into an abyss and there is nobody to help me. Like existing is pain and I shouldn’t exist. Mindfulness and meditation helped me start to teach my body and mind that it’s okay to exist and calm down at times. It doesn’t work completely and I guess my nervous system and psyche is just not there yet, but it does help nonetheless.
Hi nyctilla, Jen here from Team Lyon. From a nervous system perspective, depersonalization-derealization disorder is something we can experience when the nervous system uses freeze as it's go to response for dealing with stress. When this is the case, meditation can sometimes help manage symptoms but it's not a long term solution. The good news is that this (and a lot more!) can change when you learn to grow nervous system regulation and capacity. I'll link to a few of Irene's resources that might be of interest. Team Lyon Dear Jen, thanks for your response. This explanation resonates with me a lot. I have actually even described my state of being as “living in the freeze response” (means “Totstellreflex” in German which translates to “reflex to play dead”) before I had done much research on trauma and just knew about those three types of responses. I’ll check those resources out!
Absolutely mindblow. Thank you sooo much for this information. I had the same problem with meditation, meditating years and I progressed very slowly. Not long time ago I started to build "safe space" in my imagination and that helped me ALOT, I started to feel the body more and also let emotions to release. I see that feeling safe is REALLY important.. Thanks also for your other videos, it helped me to do this safe space.
My experience is that a life with trauma can make it impossible to organize your nutrition and exercise as much as you should. My trauma stops me from doing those things. I need to feel safe to be able to give myself this so I prefer to start with inner work. I've come quite far in my neuromodulation now and I'm able to stay with my feelings, so personally I haven't gone through the steps in that order.
Hi Frida, Jen here from Team Lyon. The experience you describe is common for those of us with trauma histories. Often we need to grow nervous system regulation and capacity before we're able to take steps like eating healthier and exercising consistently. Have you seen Irene's free Healing Trauma video series? Your example of "no singing at the dinner table" caught me off guard as this is something I hear repeated in my head all the time given how often I heard it at home, and it only just started to dawn on me how damaging it was! DANG.
Also in my experience the issue with meditation is that moving is discouraged and it could potentially trigger a freeze response and following the breath if it's shallow and rapid can create more agitation and discomfort. What's more beneficial is resourcing and moving away from uncomfortable sensations so the nervous system feels more contained, has more capacity and feels safe and not go into overwhelm.

I have been stuck in fight or flight my whole life because, as a hypersensitive person with a constantly stressed out and scared mother, I never learned to calm down. I already improved my lifestyle, but how do I start tackling the second step if I never learned to calm down in the first place?
Ashwagandha is a hormone regulating herb (adaptogen) it reduces the stress hormone cortisol to healthy levels. Adaptogens also have many other benefits and I recommend to include it in your vitamin stack. Make sure you take 400mg of quality magnesium per day, a good form of magnesium supplement is Magnesium Bisglycinate, it is well absorbed by the body, another form of magnesium to take (which is like ice-cream for the brain) is called Magtein, this is a patented version of magnesium designed to cross the blood brain barrier. To answer your question - "how do I start tackling the second step if I never learned to calm down in the first place" Research, take control of your wellbeing, no one else will do it. Because of early trauma we didnt learn things at the critical time, but we are still alive and can learn now. How sick of suffering are you? Ask yourself these questions, Is just coping good enough? There is so much more we can do for ourselves, it is not hard work because it is your own liberation from suffering you are involved in, it can turn into a creative joy. Our trauma is not our identity, you are Eternal Consciousness, observing the play of existence. I recommend meditation also.
I'm 25, I have childhood traumas, anxiety, depression, dissociation ... I need advice where to start. I've watched your videos and they help me, but I don't know what to do first?

Very good and well explained In my opinion you need more than anything else is to go into one’s feelings, to experience true wholeness. Meditation will just suppress and maintain trauma.
Dear Irene, these video’s have thought me so much. Thank you SO much for sharing your knowledge and all the effort you’re putting in to help others. You’re a blessing to my healing journey. Again, thank you! ❤️
I had lower limb dystonia of my left foot that just started out of nowhere a couple of months after the stroke.. slowly got worse as the cramping and contractures have become more rampant with certain movements. Just walking across the floor can trigger it. Really looking for options. Thank you for your education!
I had a Greek World History teacher in high school who was passionate about Greek history and culture and who spent an inordinate amount of time on the Greek ideal of Sound Body, Sound Mind. That was 40 years ago. Crazy how much of our scientific "discovery" seems always to have correlations to ancient wisdom from a variety of disciplines. Also, how much arrogance has separated us from those disciplines, as if the ideas hold no value unless they are ours. How much energy are we wasting essentially reinventing the wheel? Alan Watts, Joseph Campbell, and Lao Tzu, the Bible, and myriad other purveyors of great ideas in philosophy may not explain the mechanical processes involved, but long ago identified operative keys and desired results. I don't need to know how an internal combustion engine works in order to drive a car. But, I appreciate VERY much that you've taken the time and effort to identify the complexity of the systems involved and describe how to manage them in coordination to facilitate healing because study of the ancients may give you the tools, they stop short of giving you the manual to use them most effectively. And going at it in a haphazard fashion could take decades with no promise of achieving the desired outcome. I'm glad to have all of that knowledge (liberal arts degrees ARE beneficial -- but that's an argument I engage in elsewhere), but very much needed a qualified guide to help me apply what I know. Thank you for being my guide! I can't tell you how excited I am to finally understand what has been happening to me and to have at least a solid direction in which to begin. I feel like I found you just in the nick of time as my therapist just this week started me on a daily routine of meditation to sort of calm my trauma responses in advance of their triggers (though I don't know what they are) which makes zero sense to me. I felt like she was giving me a prescribed response, generic to PTSD, without fully understanding the complexity component of my trauma.
It makes so much sense not to add in extra neuro differentiation exercises if the body is already complete disregulated. If you already know how to calm your system, then things like meditation can be extremely beneficial
Hi. Can you make a video on healing weak nerves , agitated nerves, from years of build up chronic stress. I and a lot of my friends are burnout due to workalcoholic nature
Hey Rachit, Nicole here from Team Lyon. Many of Irene's videos cover this in an indirect way. The build up of chronic stress and burnout due to being a workaholic is often a result of a dis-regulation in the nervous system. I would suggest exploring some more of Irene's videos and seeing if they resonate! Here's a great one to start - ua-cam.com/video/k4A4_OpbzkU/v-deo.html I would also suggest checkign out her 7 Steps to De-Stress as it might give you some tools on how to support yourself so that you can get more regulation and capacity on board so that you lead yourself to less burnout! irenelyon.com/7-steps-opt-in-IL Let me know if you have any questions along the way. Totally agree with this but learning TM in '87, having an incredible sense that I had touched a Magnifence within me for the first time, CHANGED MY LIFE. I've not missed a day of meditation since, have found many other inc Vipassana 10 day silent retreats, my latest discovery is WIM HOF breathing, cold showers, push-ups. I sleep very well however I find often that it can be 2am by the time I actually go to bed. And I have often told myself or commented that it is almost like I am afraid to sleep. And I tell myself 'It's ok to go to sleep now.' So fascinating.
hi Irene, i recently had a (what can i only describe as psycosis due to THC use and large amounts of coffee), there are 4 mounths since i sleeped at all. I sometimes get to the point of my eyes closes but just when to fall i have a twitch of hands like i'm afraid to go sleeping. I coming more in the present and slowly recovering. What i did to get thru was a lot of meditation and i trust my body. Funny thing is before i started all this i had my best 2 weeks of my life and did amazing job with my T. I now wondering that maybe i'm afraid to get better cause always i feel without anxiety/fear in my body i just feel so empty and it scares me. Thank you for all your work, helping us to heal ourselfs!!
I am just starting with you. I've always sensed that the pain I felt in the body was from a reaction to fear I sense in the environment. And mindful relaxation doesn't do it for me. I'm either hyped up or on the bed exhausted. I shall look for the e-book.

Team Lyon I know I had trauma. My father killed my mother and then himself when I was seven years old and I was there. Then I married a very religious selfish man and was beat down by him and his church for over 30 years. I am not sure I will recover in this life time!

Irene, you really are a Godsend. I believe you are an angel sent here from above to spread your spiritual work. While you may not talk about the spirituality, let me tell you, it shines through you anyhow!! Muah! Oh! is it SAFE to bingewatch your videos all day long for days at a time? I feel like it helps me so much.
Hi Terry, Seth here from Team Lyon. Thanks so much for your lovely comments! It's actually a good question - whether or not it's good to binge watch this kind of content. I would say that one would want to err on the side of caution as even taking in this theory and knowledge can be activating for someone with a trauma history. Soi just watch your system, as well as the videos! If you find yourself getting agitated, or numb, or checking out, etc... then leave it and go do something else for a while :)
Sorry can't remember which video you used the train track analogy. It really sent me to a very difficult place of grief and rage. Then new perspective. Something happened 10 years ago that has me convinced that I blew out my wheels back then. Therefore I can't build a new train without wheels. I gotta rebuild the wheels from scratch and I really don't know how and too angry about that to focus. I really needed to cry for 2 hours about my loss of wheels. So then I could get to the place where I could comprehend building new wheels. Reassuring myself that I for the first time in years am in a place to safely express these emotions. Thank you.
Relate to the mindfulness/meditation bits. I often used to find meditation mind numbing - just absolutely nothing there in my mind, in a strange quiet disconnected kind of way. But when I got into psychotherapy, started to realise how much I dissociated and I started to connect to my feelings, then meditation started to feel like a useful tool - I started to feel (sometimes scary) feelings come up during it and also moments of calm from it. I don’t think that would have happened without my therapist first helping me sit through feeling my feelings in therapy. I had a controlling, abusive, religious upbringing too like the people Irene describes.
Check out Norman Doidge's work for background reading. Be gently diligent and persistent and plan to play the long game. First Stage- Neuroculturate - Establish Good Lifestyle behaviours- good food, sleep, exercise. Second stage- Capacity to neuromodulate which means being able to regulate our nervous systems. Third part in sequence- Neurostimulation, out in sunlight, exercise enough only, swimming and more. Fourth step- neurorelaxation- rest, regenerate. not just in sleep. Even one minute every hour of the waking day is very good. Fifth Step- neurodifferentiation, ability to tell the difference between, previously tangled, states. So good, Thank you Irene- heart heart heart
@movingthroughwithrory, Jen here from Irene's Team. The Feldenkrais practices do often involve more complexity which can require more capacity, and there are practices - and ways to engage with the practices - that may be suitable for people in the earlier stages of building capacity. For example, this practice of Irene's explores some principles drawn from Feldenkrais - ua-cam.com/video/RoPOmAb108w/v-deo.html Also, practicing a little at a time - what we call titration in this work, an approach borrowed from Somatic Experiencing - can be applied to practicing Feldenkrais, as well as more generally to anything we practice to do in life. In your e-book on this, neurostimulation and neuromodulation are switched, neurostimulation being the second stage and neuromodulation being the third. Which order is correct?
I noticed the PDF 5 stages is in a different order than the one you outlined here. You switched neuro modulation and stimulation in the PDF (stages 2 & 3). Are these sequential? And which is correct?
@AlyssaBurtt, the stages aren't necessarily linear. We can move around and be in various stages in different areas at the same time. By way of background, the five stages are taken from Norman Doidge's book "The Brain's Way of Healing". In Doidges book he lists neurostimlation before neuromodulation. - Jen from Team Lyon

@@IreneLyon thank you. Do you also have recommendations as far as resources for this situation? This is kind of a lot but it’s been tough. I know someone who was hurt and traumatized recently. They shut down and go further into dissociation whenever they think about anything that’s even mildly related, which makes healing a very daunting practice. She was getting very poor sleep and frequent nightmares related to the trauma, but recently she’s turned a corner and is sleeping in excess. I’ve suggested image replacement therapy for nightmares, but she can’t bear to revisit the nightmares. I’ve suggested looking into somatic practices, but her brain is very thorough when it comes to avoidance, and since she’s in therapy right now, she thinks “she doesn’t need it.” She’s been stuck in freeze for over a month now and was diagnosed with early stage kidney disease recently. I think it’s all related, but it often feels like there’s no real way to help her because of the way she shuts down in the face of related-topics. I don’t blame her for her freeze response, not at all, I just don’t know how to help her get around it. She says she’s “fishing for thoughts but her head just goes empty” Thank you for reading and considering. Y’all and Irene are a fantastic presence in the mental health space.
I dont understand nuerodifferentiation except that its the last step and built off the others. What do you learn in this step? What are you able to do in this step? Is it the final stage of trauma healing? Thanks
Hi Claire, Nicole here from Team Lyon. The more we can refine what we are paying attention to and be able to differentiate our one experience, the more we can grasp and support ourselves through deeper layers of what makes us us. A way to see it is that we start to be able to recognize our trauma patterns vs our truth. I wouldn't say it's the final stage of healing trauma. Because the layers can be deep (think intergenerational trauma) but it makes working with these deeper layers more accessible.
Im so confused. If you are suppose to sequence these steps, but at the same time, step number two could take YEARS. How would you know when to move to the next step? Since im guessing you are not suppose to build capacity for years BEFORE you start the other three steps. How should i think around this? I, for example, have to take small breaks every day to let my system come down, since i have chronic fatigue. That kinda means that im doing neurorelaxation already, starting at "the wrong end". What should one do?
Hi @mifinedrefined7446, I hear your confusion. The steps aren't necessarily sequential - we can move around and be exploring multiple steps at the same time. This said, one of the most foundational steps is the "housekeeping" step, what Norman Doidge referred to as the "Correction of general functions of the neurons and glia". You may have seen that Irene offers a free e-book on the 5 stages of neuroplastic healing. That can be a great way to learn more. Here's a link if you want to check it out. irenelyon.com/5-stages-of-neuroplastic-healing
By the system “blowing up,” would an example of this be getting diverticulitis symptoms? I ask since I felt my system being exposed to stress that felt “too much” and then I had 5 days of diverticulitis.
I have developed tinnitus and there is a Dr who has developed a class with modules to heal with neuroplasticity. I think it would work because I went through many trauma. The issue is the program is very expensive and I can’t do it. Can you recommend a more reasonable approach to this method?
Joey Remeny! I agree, it is so expensive. I experience d my first episode of vertigo back in March and it was reoccurring for three months. I stumbled across Joey's videos on UA-cam and subscribed to her emails. She offers an affordable 6 months program and lots of free content. You can look up lots of videos on neuroplasticity. I've watched and listened to lots of testimony videos of Joey's clients and it's been helpful for me. I'm happy to report that I haven't experienced my vertigo in going on three months. My tinnitus isn't as often either. Also, healthier life style changes and a big one is mindfulness meditation.
Selene Mayorga-Gutierrez thank you. That helps a lot. Dr Joey Rememyl seems legit...May I ask you how much it costed you for the 6 month program with Joey? Thanks again for replying
She has a 7 day package for $100. I haven't purchased anything because I've signed up for her email list and seek a lot of her free contact which is via emails and her UA-cam channel. I believe her website is seekingbalance.org.au, something like that. But I'm telling you, watch videos on neuroplasticity and vertigo. It's a game changer. Joey talks a lot about being patient with yourself, being kind and compassionate to help yourself heal. Our minds and body's tend to disconnect from each other in our face paced lives. Body scan meditations are something I discovered through her.
I have a question- the ebook has the 5 stages listed in the order: healthy lifestyle, neurostimulation, neuromodulation, neurorelaxation, and neurodifferentiation. But this talk lists neuromodulation before neurostimulation. Which is correct?
Hi Candice, Seth here from Team Lyon. Thanks for your question. The reason for this discrepancy is because there is no real set order to these things - they overlap and influence each other and often happen simultaneously. It's true that housekeeping tends to be a good base, but then again, as we get more adept at the other stages we also will improve our basic self care. Neurodifferentiation tends ot be best to focus on last - as in in depth Feldenkrais lessons, but it can also happen while the other things are happening. So it's more like the series of overlapping circles in the ebook, rather than a set order.
1. Lifestyle
2. Neuromodular (reducing chronic stress / anxiety / regulating system)
3. Neurostimulation (exercise / sun / sound / sensations / trigger and recover)
4. Neurorelaxaion (rejuvenation)
(this is a lifestyle process; like losing excess body fat)
5. Neurodifferentiation
Could you suggest some nutritionists?

It wasn't until I combined mindfulness with Neuroplasticity that my healing truly began.
What did you do in order to heal?
Are you sure it was this stuff? There is no scientific evidence that this Polyvagal Therapy works. While the vagus nerve does play a role in transmitting and integrating emotion-related signals between the brain and the rest of the body, there is no evidence to suggest that it has any control over such behavior.

I’m becoming fascinated with the neuroscience behind mental wellness. I wish this was more widely discussed
This is the most helpful video I have ever watched. I have been trying to heal my childhood traumas for years and getting nowhere. Thank you for sharing.
Я не знаю что

I relate so much to this. Hows your progress?
thats so sweet to say i bet taht meant a lot to her :))) hope it's going well so far!!!!
Maybe everyone’s path through healing is unique. It is your journey no one else’s. Find what works for you. Peace and love !!!
You are the mortar that makes the bricks of recovery fit and make sense. Excellent work - thank you.
Makes total sense! Wiring parts that weren’t wired in childhood! Thank you
Thank you so much for your channel.

When the student is ready, the teacher will appear! Excited to get into this! (Sort of) :)

To answer your question - "how do I start tackling the second step if I never learned to calm down in the first place"
Research, take control of your wellbeing, no one else will do it. Because of early trauma we didnt learn things at the critical time, but we are still alive and can learn now. How sick of suffering are you? Ask yourself these questions,
Is just coping good enough? There is so much more we can do for ourselves, it is not hard work because it is your own liberation from suffering you are involved in, it can turn into a creative joy. Our trauma is not our identity, you are Eternal Consciousness, observing the play of existence.
I recommend meditation also.
Thanks 👍👍

Outstanding. Thank you.
7:50 - it is Horrifying to me how true this all is for me.
It makes so much sense not to add in extra neuro differentiation exercises if the body is already complete disregulated. If you already know how to calm your system, then things like meditation can be extremely beneficial

Hey Rachit,

I sleep very well however I find often that it can be 2am by the time I actually go to bed. And I have often told myself or commented that it is almost like I am afraid to sleep. And I tell myself 'It's ok to go to sleep now.' So fascinating.
Yes. So fascinating!
I hope through some exploration and curiosity you gain some insight on this :)

hi Irene, i recently had a (what can i only describe as psycosis due to THC use and large amounts of coffee), there are 4 mounths since i sleeped at all.
Thank you so much for the ebook of “5 Stage ...”.
Healing and detoxing from weed addiction. 5 years daily started at age 17
I am just starting with you. I've always sensed that the pain I felt in the body was from a reaction to fear I sense in the environment. And mindful relaxation doesn't do it for me. I'm either hyped up or on the bed exhausted. I shall look for the e-book.
I loved this . I went to all this experience. Now I know where I am. But some one in your family went through this trauma how to heal that everybody is different. If you have any tips person has hard time to forgive or forget its kind of hard. I enjoyed your video. Thank you God bless you.Amen.
Hi,
Nicole here from Team Lyon.
Forgiving and forgetting is very hard when we're still living out our trauma!
The key lies in helping regulated the nervous system and healing the trauma. The more we do that the more we have capacity to forgive and forget ✨
A good start would be some of Irene's programs or free content.

This is So me! My life has been horrific and I am literally Frozen in my nervous system..to the point of partial paralyzation. This gives me Hope. I am practicing forgiveness and gratitude and this is really helping but I have people in my life who challenge me and this makes it harder. Life has been very hard for me.
Hi kathleen Wharton, it's inspiring to hear that watching this gives you hope. Sometimes we may have early or developmental trauma without knowing it, and this can have a massive impact on our health and on our life. I saw that you're planning to watch Irene's Healing Trauma training which is a great start. I'll link to two other resources that might also be supportive as they are things you can practice.

I know I had trauma. My father killed my mother and then himself when I was seven years old and I was there. Then I married a very religious selfish man and was beat down by him and his church for over 30 years. I am not sure I will recover in this life time!
@@kathleenwharton2139, I'm verysorry to hear that you've experienced these tragic losses. It's not usually an easy road for any of us, and the nervous system is much more resilient than you might imagine when you learn to give it the support it needs to heal.

Some hard lessons learned. I spent my life trying to please people I could not please and didn’t learn to respect the person that I am. I am Learning!
You work is just so amazing 😍💖thankyou Irene, may God bless you 💞
Ahhh this is so helpful! I’m finally getting to a place where meditation isn’t painful and it was definitely because I’ve been working on the other stages without realizing it. Wish I had seen this years ago
Excellent! Such important information!
Thank you so much for this video. I’m currently experiencing confusions, pains and instabilities. Your video explains a lot and makes me feel better. I think I’m on my way building up the capacity. Thank you.
Amazing synopsis. This makes total sense. As always, thanks for your insight. Which of your current courses (2023) covers these 5 stages?
pco2004, Jen here from Team Lyon. Irene covers these in her 21 Day Nervous System Tune Up course and more comprehensive SmartBody SmartMind program. She also has a related free e-book. I'll share links to all three in case you want to check them out.

Omg so I’ve been experiencing morning panic attacks.. and I was also like brought up in a chaotic household and abused at one point.. now years later I’m in therapy and been waiting for a psychologist appointment but in the mean time I’m struggling..... I’m living with my grandma for the 1st time in my life and when you said an environment where you can’t be yourself it’s like yesss exactly, but my grandmother honestly is not that nice and if I had a choice right now I wouldn’t be staying with her but I don’t... and she herself causes me a lot of anxiety alone never mind the anxieties and things I’ve already had and then now I’m waking up every morning in the middle of a panic attack to where I throw up and I just don’t know how I’m supposed to live with SUCH a negative person when I’m trying to be positive and heal and she just wants to hurt others and I’m not about that.. but how am I supposed to live with her anddd these panic attacks under control ☹️🥺🥺🥺
Hi Gabriellaa, Seth here from Team Lyon. Sorry to hear about this predicament you, and many others too, are in - living in a toxic environment while we try to heal is SO tough. Ultimately, you need to get out of there, but you can still do good work in the meantime with developing your boundaries,. Please have a read of this article of mine, as it talks about some practical things you can do in such a situation. sethlyon.com/sometimes-break-family/
@@teamlyon3109 UNDERSTOOD! SO GRATEFUL AND APPRECIATE YOU SO MUCH
Thank you Irene💕🦋💕Such a great well rounded video.. especially for those not aquainted with neuroplasticity yet😎👍
Wonderful information. This is so helpful. Thank you!!
GOLD! All your videos are good but this one begs repeating and resharing all over the place.
thank you, Irene
Hello Irene, would you say that the work in the feldenkrais method is somewhat advanced? That comes after building some more capacity?
@movingthroughwithrory, Jen here from Irene's Team. The Feldenkrais practices do often involve more complexity which can require more capacity, and there are practices - and ways to engage with the practices - that may be suitable for people in the earlier stages of building capacity.
For example, this practice of Irene's explores some principles drawn from Feldenkrais - ua-cam.com/video/RoPOmAb108w/v-deo.html
Also, practicing a little at a time - what we call titration in this work, an approach borrowed from Somatic Experiencing - can be applied to practicing Feldenkrais, as well as more generally to anything we practice to do in life.
Here's a link to some info about titration - irenelyon.com/2020/04/26/titration-explained-never-rush-trauma-healing/
Awesome 👍 Very good information I am currently doing them all this was confirmation for me your videos are very helpful thanks!

@IreneLyon which videos on this channel could help to soothe and regulate my nervous system to solve my TMS (dr sarno terminology) symptoms/issues?
Paul George, Jen here from Team Lyon. While I can't say what will address what you're referring to as "TMS symptoms/issues", growing nervous system regulation and capacity and working with underlying survival responses often lessens or resolves many types of chronic pain and symptoms.
Learning to grow regulation is a process that involves learning about the nervous system and how to support it. The best place to start is with Irene's New Here page, and with her Field Guide to Your Nervous System. In your e-book on this, neurostimulation and neuromodulation are switched, neurostimulation being the second stage and neuromodulation being the third.
Which order is correct?
Is Irene familiar with the 12 Steps?
I noticed the PDF 5 stages is in a different order than the one you outlined here. You switched neuro modulation and stimulation in the PDF (stages 2 & 3). Are these sequential? And which is correct?
@AlyssaBurtt, the stages aren't necessarily linear. We can move around and be in various stages in different areas at the same time. By way of background, the five stages are taken from Norman Doidge's book "The Brain's Way of Healing". In Doidges book he lists neurostimlation before neuromodulation. - Jen from Team Lyon
You mentioned feldenkraisian practice in the E-book a lot but it didn’t seem like you said what that was. Is there a video on it?
Hello, Sophia here from Team Lyon. Thank you for your comment and question. Here are some videos talking about this topic: ua-cam.com/video/Tm3N9kiODvo/v-deo.html and ua-cam.com/video/BctnVQNg2SQ/v-deo.html
I’ve suggested looking into somatic practices, but her brain is very thorough when it comes to avoidance, and since she’s in therapy right now, she thinks “she doesn’t need it.”
She’s been stuck in freeze for over a month now and was diagnosed with early stage kidney disease recently. I think it’s all related, but it often feels like there’s no real way to help her because of the way she shuts down in the face of related-topics. I don’t blame her for her freeze response, not at all, I just don’t know how to help her get around it.
She says she’s “fishing for thoughts but her head just goes empty”
Thank you for reading and considering. Y’all and Irene are a fantastic presence in the mental health space.
I dont understand nuerodifferentiation except that its the last step and built off the others. What do you learn in this step? What are you able to do in this step? Is it the final stage of trauma healing? Thanks
Hi Claire,
Nicole here from Team Lyon.
Because the layers can be deep (think intergenerational trauma) but it makes working with these deeper layers more accessible.
i still dont understand from where to start. 😪
Hi Ankush, Jen here from Team Lyon. Irene's free Healing Trauma video series can be a great place to start: irenelyon.com/healing-trauma
Thank you Irene
What would be an example of a "differentiated practice?"
@@IreneLyon Thanks Seth! I think I understand better now. I can definitely see how they happen simultaneously!
Brilliant
