98 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Hard Starting, Rough Idle, Hesitation and Stalling upon the first 45 seconds to 120 seconds of driving. Diagnostics were fuel pump was previously changed out prior to purchase. New fuel pump died. Gas tank was dropped, fuel pump was taken out and the attached fuel filter/strainer was extremely dirty and clogged which led to the old/new fuel pump dying. A New fuel pump assembly was put in (with new filter/strainer). It was dark when I changed it out and I also could not syphon/remove the 3/4 tank of fuel but I did look inside the gas tank and noticed grime/particles/and bits of debris floating around in the fuel. I was not in a position to dump the fuel or remove the debris so the new fuel pump went in. A few weeks passed with normal operation of the vehicle and the previous symptoms resolved. BUT one morning the symptoms returned. Fuel tank was dropped again and fuel pump assembly was removed and upon inspection the new fuel filter/strainer was clogged. The tank was carefully cleaned and the remaining fuel was removed. The 5 gal of fuel that was removed was filtered using coffee filters fitted around the nose of the gas can and fixed with black elastic hair tie wrapped around the nose. The fuel was poured into another clean container with the coffee filters being changed liberally throughout pouring. Fuel filter was cleaned the best that could be and the assembly was reinstalled. Clean fuel was introduced and the symptoms still persisted. Tank was dropped again for the 3rd time and a new filter was installed. Fuel and tank appeared clean still and hopefully the small remaining debris was sucked into he already dirty but previously new filter. New clean filter was again installed on the assembly and put back in the tank with 2 new hose clamps on the fuel inlet hoses (coming from gas pump insert). Symptoms resolved for a few starts but persisted again with even rougher idle. Fully confident that the fuel, pump, and filters are clean and operational...the FUEL INJECTORS will now be removed and cleaned. I am more than confident that this is the last issue causing the symptoms in the fuel chain. One of the injectors must be partially clogged if not more. They will be inspected, cleaned, and reinstalled. If symptoms resolve I may upgrade the injectors altogether with a 4 hole injector instead of the factory 1 hole. One hole injectors make it even more suspect that one of the injectors is currently clogged or partially restricted and not allowing the proper fuel pressure/ flow to pass through into the chamber. I hope this helps someone. Clean your fuel or your tank anytime you pull the fuel pump assembly. Its a pain sometimes but its better than pulling the tank 3-4 times. But sometimes shit happens and you gotta diagnose it yourself. I seen numerous jeep forums encountering the same problem and were chasing the same symptoms for years. And yes BTW I elevated the possibilities of it being other sensors because each of them were changed out and retested with a volt meter to ensure proper voltage. Thanks
You know that the fuel pump delivers more fuel than actually needed...any excess fuel flows thru the pressure regulator back to the gastank. There might be a problem n the fuel return lines.
@@JusticeAlways ended up being O2 sensors. Changed both of them. Easy way to see is to climb under there and unplug one of them. My upstream 02 sensor was the main problem causing all the symptoms. I had a fuel injector cleaning and an oil change shop near me they ran a machine through the fuel injectors to clean them. About 1 to 2 weeks later my car was experiencing all these symptoms such as rough idle, decreased RPM, etc so my question is, should I replace all my fuel injectors now? Or do you think it might be something else? Or should I take it to a auto repair shop in just change out the faulty fuel injector? What should I do what do you think is happening?
Sounds like maybe you're using a bad fuel station? I would change to better gas or a different station... But either way sounds like you got a tank of bad gas and may need to redo the service again and/or your car may have a fuel filter that needs to be changed

Did you take off the negative terminal or both on your battery when you placed your ignition coils or spark plugs? @@RJPhotographics wouldn't a tune up, new spark plugs and new ignition coils have prevented all that?
@@XxowendanxX only lesson is that E10 fuel has a much shorter shelf life, so don't store it for longer than 6 months.
I'm currently dealing with rough idle when stopped. Definitely going to get me some fuel system cleaner to see if that'll help
Also, look for vacuum leaks (hissing sound) and check to see if your throttle is dirty.
@EasyAutoFix I definitely checked for vacuum leaks and no hissing sound. I haven't checked the throttle so I'll do that in a bit. I bought the fuel cleaner so I'll know tomorrow when I fill up the tank if there's improvement
@@Megacooler96_ Smart! Another thing to check is the IAC valve if you have one. If you have an electronic throttle body you won't.
@EasyAutoFix I have a 93 Acura Integra so most likely it does
@@Megacooler96_ Hi, did you fix your problem? What was causing that issue?
You've made it so simple, even an old lady can understand. lol
So I had a servíce engine light on my BMW 328i and with these symptoms. After half a gallon of fuel injector “Lucas” my car is running extremely better and the light turned off. Thanks a lot.
Awesome information ‘ awesome narrator ‘
The breakdown was 💯
98 Jeep Grand Cherokee.
I changed the downstream too. Runs like a champ and no more stuttering. Won’t throw a code either so beware!
My car has at least three of these symptoms. Thank you 🎉
Thanks man, I thought that I might have a defectives fuel injector as I have a p0303 code. However, I do not have the lean fuel p0171 code so hopefully I am looking at a bad coil. I'mma play it safe and replace all the 4 coils on my Nissan Frontier. I have already replaced all the spark plugs and the valve cover as i had a leaky seal anyways. Crossing fingers. Thanks for the help man.
Update - after replacing all 4 coils I no longer have the misfire.
Sorry in advance, I'm not very good at mechanic work. When you mentioned you were going to replace coils, are you talking about spark plug wires? I just trying to figure it out, thanks.
Well, now I know about fuel injectors. Thanks.
Maaaaaan this was sooo helpful ! I’m replacing all of them
Super informative and straight to the point I’m glad I found this video thanks for making it truly!
Thank you, friend. Currently fixing my first car (Pontiac g3 2010) this could help me
Informative watch on 2x speed for those who idle fast.! Good vid
as i was told cleaner might not work if your injector is burnt which you have to replace cause i already ran the stuff threw it and still doing it
Dude you’re awesome my Camaro has all these symptoms
So you have no check engine light but also have misfire codes and the like? Well thought comment.
@@Rico702Vegas I don’t believe I was speaking to the peasants of UA-cam.
Good God, where have you been, clear and concise video and explanations as well as diagnosis, mad video, Thanks.
Thank you!
I’ve changed my throttle body, mad air flow sensor, air filter, and my engine light is still on. I’m hoping this is what it is so I can be done fixing this car for a moment. It also sounds like fluid is running through the car when I come to a stop….do you know what that may be?
I need your help my mechanic told me I was taking in to much air to change fuel injector, I bought an after market part and 4 days later it started loosing acceleration??
Your editing skills on point
I cannot thank you enough for knowledge. Amazing video!!
My 2019 Nissan Sentra exhibits some of these symptoms, like the rough starting and idling, and my fuel efficiency has been slowly dropping over the past few months. My check engine light isn't on though, so is this combination consistent with a fuel injector issue?
Any update ? Having the same problems with my car. No CEL

Literally me putting fuel injector cleaner in my car and itll run good and then just be shit again but now its gotten so bad i thought i was my transmission. I think i might replace my fuel injectors today.
yes same here i bought best fuel injector cleaner at auto zone didnt work so they said if they don't work then you'll probably have a fuel injector if you haven't feeling tractor the fuel injector cleaner won't help at all and my friend that works out told me the change the one that's misfiring too to a different one and put the other one on it too and see if it misses on the other side
Hi there, did you ever replace the injectors and it fixed the issue? This is the problem I’m having. Fuel injector cleaner fixes my symptoms but temporarily.
@@jrrifenburg6251any luck changing the injectors?
@@Whatchamacallit22 i think i had water in myspark plug holes lmao. Very vaguely remember but i know didnt have a hood on at the time its been a good minute. I'm going to ask my mechanic to look at this, to see if it may be the problem with my 06 Ford 500, it will occasionally die at idle, when stopped.
The video was Informative. You teach well. I'm here watching and taking notes. How do you know so much about vehicles? Trying to get on your level.
I suspect this is my issue. One spark plug wasnt tied down correctly and it became so dusty when i pulled it out ever since then i am getting kncok and those symptoms. On same bank as that spark plug

Is a bad injector easily fixed by cleaned and new o ring?
I just used a bottle of Rislone Cat Complete to resolve a P0430 code. And then my engine started running rough and has hard or no start. I got it to start once but stalls in idle. What do you think?
I had a fuel injector cleaning and an oil change shop near me they ran a machine through the fuel injectors to clean them. About 1 to 2 weeks later my car was experiencing all these symptoms such as rough idle, decreased RPM, etc so my question is, should I replace all my fuel injectors now? Or do you think it might be something else? Or should I take it to a auto repair shop in just change out the faulty fuel injector? What should I do what do you think is happening?
I'm following, I need to know the same.
Sounds like maybe you're using a bad fuel station? I would change to better gas or a different station... But either way sounds like you got a tank of bad gas and may need to redo the service again and/or your car may have a fuel filter that needs to be changed
@@JamesAutoDude ok thank you
Amazing video! You simplified and covered everything with a few word
Thabks for this looks like my fuel injectors are clogged or bad.
My vehicle is getting terrible fuel economy seemingly around 6mpg (I’m in the process of properly checking it with the fill up/trip odometer method), a bit more than 1/3 of what it should. It does have 255K on it and has probably never had any injector work done to it. The spark plugs were way overdue and I got those in, wires are waiting to be installed. I have new baskets for my injectors and I’m gonna see what I can do.
The product helped with the noise my truck was making but it’s still misfiring
I have gone through 3 cans of "Berryman's" to clean the fuel system. The car( jeep)had a few Big backfires, but not anymore. it is kind sluggish on acceleration uphill still. Suggestions?
Get new injectors
@@deleted....2000 Nope. "Cataclean " fixed it.

Will there always be a lean condition code if I’m getting a misfire code? I have a misfire on cylinder 6, with a lot of the symptoms mentioned. Rough idle, slow acceleration, and start issues. But there is no lean condition code. Thanks for the video!
What did you figure out? I had all the same but misfire on 1, cleaned map sensor and the starting issues stopped, idle a little better but still misfire on 1, checking spark plugs next, then coil and injectors.

Nice explanation
2007 Jeep Liberty, 3.7L gas.
Have code faults for #1 misfire, fuel injector 1 circuit open, and Bank #1 lean.
There is a slight rough idle, but no misfire perceived, and it runs fine under load and high speed. Doesn't burn oil. Gets 15mpg combined mileage. Ran fine when I got it 64,000 miles. Now it has 110,000 miles. It has had this issue for about 10,000 miles. Not getting worse, but so far plugs and coils and cleaning intake hasn't corrected it.
I checked and cleaned Injector and Coils wiring connections and they look good too. #1 Injector plug had some oil in it, somehow. Cleaned it very well with first brake cleaner, then electronics cleaner. Let it dry and reassembled.
Can bad Injector o-ring cause this? I already ruled out spark plug, coils, valves, and did intake cleaning.
I have not checked orings and the wiring from #1 Injector to the computer control. And don't really know how to.
Any tips on checking Injector and its wiring and control while it's still in the head? Thanks!
I can’t believe that I haven’t thought of any of this and it’s literally everything happening with my truck

if my car only shuts off while im stopping or idling, and has strong smell of fuel, do you think that fuel injectors can be a possible cause? I've replace the fuel pump, mass air flow sensor, air intake boot because it was ripped and thought that could be something, but nothing has given me any luck and I just can't afford to take it to a shop with my budget right now. Literally looking for any advice at this point
Would a faulty fuel injector also caused it to blow the fuel injector fuse?
Would it be any worse on hot days? Ive noticed my car is harder to start on hot days when its been sitting for a while

Did you take off the negative terminal or both on your battery when you placed your ignition coils or spark plugs? I had the exact same issue as I was testing it out my car started to shake and my RPM went to zero but luckily did not get stranded. I was recommended to take off the negative or both battery terminals (I did the negative only) and reinstall the ignition coils. (which I did) then go back and put on the terminal/s again and run the car idle for 15-20 minutes. Afterward, run the car for a bit (I did 30 minutes) on the streets you are used to driving on and see if this method works, as it did for me.
