    I was about to cave into getting warhammer until i came across firefight. It looked so awesome i got a bunch of units/vehicles and i look forward to getting into a game with fully painted units

    And a new faction called the nightstalkers is coming soon, which is the sort of eldritch horror that was missing

    The models are not "mono pose" so the results depend a bit on the person assembling it. That ha advantages and disadvantages...
    A specific model might look a bit weirdly posed but in contrast you also don't suddenly have 5 guys or whatever who jump off the same weird looking rock.

    Mantic miniatures have come a long way in recent years. My Veermin are a very thematic army with some really cool models, vehicles, and characters. They were around a third the price of an equivalent GW army. Some of the firefight/deadzone miniatures are excellent and the vehicles are very special. I have yet to make the switch but I am pretty sure I will.
    My research indicates that the rules Mantic make are much better presented, properly tested, and key for me, really fun to play. I already have a number of useable models in my squats, arbitrators, orcs, and others, so no reason not to. Alesio Cavatorre and other ex GW staff members work closely with Mantic these days so its not surprising they are producing the better games. I think the Epic scale game maybe my entry point to Mantic's games frankly.

    Thanks for making this a well rounded review!
    Mantic Games have been pushing out great games for a few years now, often not quite perfect, but the rules are generally 90% amazing 10% WiP. All their games are way more accessible than the other guys. Firefight is really fun to play, and the players in my local community have really picked it up and also started a podcast: Controlled Fire.
    I look forward to more Mantic Games review. Have you seen Kings of War?

    As someone who bought into the Warpath kickstarter, I have to say that nothing is a larger waste of money than a game that never gets proper support to begin with. Glad to see they're finally doing something with one of the two rulesets after nine years.

      Biggest thing for me is the story and lore behind your game. Warhammer 40,000 would be NOWHERE NEAR as popular as it is today without all of the novels, lore, and cool characters. Warpath needs hero characters for each of the factions and then more novels about those characters.

      @@thechadnerd8562GW's lore is completely mutable as they have illustrated in the past. What was cannon yesterday will be completely rewritten tomorrow, and this shifting, inconsistent, approach doesn't sit well with me. An obvious example would be the Necrons whose whole existance was completely retconned in the last couple of editions. I am afraid as a long time 40K player, GW lost me sometime ago. I have reverted to playing 2nd edition 40K, and a Yaktribe edition of Necromunda.

    This game is fantastic. As someone who has played both this and the current edition of 40k this ruleset is far superior in every way. Its cleaner, easier and more balanced, I love it. I now just essentially use my 40k models in Firefight as they're are obviously crossover factions. The older ranges of Mantic's models aren't the best but their new stuff is pretty good and they are supporting the game with new models and a new faction on the way shortly. Getting players is the issue as 40k fans are reluctant to try anything else, regardless of how much they moan about their rules and balance and prices etc.
    Great video, glad Firefight is getting some attention around the world. Spread the word!!!

      The hard part is getting 40k players to switch when they've spent hundreds, maybe even thousands, of dollars on 40k stuff. Like I play primaris ultramarines but do I want to run them as enforcers in firefight? no I want the actual enforcer models for firefight. but that's an entirely new expense. Even though firefight is WAY less expensive, its not about how expensive or cheap the new hobby is, it's about how expensive the current hobby was to get into. No one is saying that you have to pick one and only play that one game but when its the case of 2 games where one is CLEARLY superior, you're going to want to play the superior one the majority of the time. So it ends up being:
      "I spent all this money on warhammer 40k, only to what? pretty much abandon it and play firefight the majority of the time? Can't do that, I put too much $$$$$ into 40k to let that happen.
      and yes, you COULD sell your warhammer stuff to fund getting into firefight but it's not going to feel like an even trade. I can quantify the amount of money I've spend on 40k models, paints, brushes, codexes, and other tools but what I can't truly quantify is how much the hours I spent building and painting the models are worth. In order to get the stuff sold, I'd have to low ball the price and no one wants to do that.
      That's what this game is up against.

    Jumped on the mantic train myself, building my Asterian force now. Asterian lore in particular is super strange lol. Basically an elf space force who uses weak weaponry to for 'balance' of the universe, and ran by a bunch of 'neuter males' or space eunuchs

    Iam happy that other companies are also making relatively 40k style lore and units etc. To be honest, even if Amazon's tv show makes 40k massively popular which i doubt in this day and age, the table top will be on life support. Too expensive even for a die-hard fan. I'll stick to the books and the video games. Thanks for alternatives!

    • @thechadnerd8562
      @thechadnerd8562  3 місяці тому

      Hey thanks for watching and commenting! While I agree that the Amazon show COULD end up being…..not that great (we all saw Rings of Power) I don’t think the tabletop game will be on “life support” it is still the world’s most popular game of it’s kind.
      Every generation has its people that will get into it. That number is not as big as it used to be but as long as they keep putting out new lore it will find new fans. Plus with Kill Team people can now experience a fun yet more affordable experience in the 40K universe. Plus whenever GW finds themselves needing money they can always license out the IP to have video games, action figures, and other merchandise to help bring in profits.

    I sold all my GW models and armies for both 40k and age of sigmar due to getting sick of the constant fomo and price hikes. Bought the deadzone starter set to see if it would be a good replacement.....and it is definitely a better game to play and so much cheaper to get started with.

    Firefight is still not grabbing me the same way as OPR. I do like the models and while Firefight might not be the most amazing thing ever, DEADZONE is really good.
    Also FWIW, The plague are humans who went wrong so, their kit is "reaver-ed" GCPS gear. The Marauders were used as filler troops by the GCPS until they rebelled, so, a lot of their gear is GSPC kit as well. You get to the actual Aliens and the variety kicks in.

    If 40k had alternate activation or somethibg akin fewer gamers would be loking into warpath and opr. People want to use their cool 40k figs but are wanting more than tired igougo for what is a fairly complex game.

    • @thechadnerd8562
      @thechadnerd8562  3 місяці тому

      I’m really not big on skirmish games. I do play kill team and have several teams but to me that is just part of overall Warhammer 40K. The models are the same so why would you NOT play kill team if you already play full 40K? Star Wars Shatterpoint looks dumb to me in comparison to legion. I am however considering getting into the upcoming Fallout: Factions skirmish games simply because I love Fallout and there is not big tabletop wargame for fallout.

      @@thechadnerd8562 There are no big wargames as such other than GW products as the capitalistic rules of a niche market only allow so many competitors, in this case none.
      The roadmap for Mantic is from 2023, it's now April 2024. That's a bad sign.
      The packages that Manmtic sells also used to have mode models in them for a lower price. This is shrinkflation and price increases, which tells me that the market model is invalid.'
      Before it died the skirmish game Void was sold as a combat-level game, and before that folded it was sold as a battle-level game.
      There's no room for anything on the level of combat that GW sells. That's one of the reasons other companies go into Skirmish level. It's cheaper and there's room for them.
      The last company that tried to do a combat-level game was Privateer Press and last I checked their games were practically on life support.

    I've been looking at mantic games recently, but the fact that the rules aren't free really makes them a hard sell for me when things like One Page Rules are available. I really like the look of their Asterion faction

    Mantic has good rules.. They have the worst minis though just trash tier compared to GW and even many stl 3d creators, and the lore is generally inoffensive but generic as well as boring. It need focus on 3d printing and get some good 3d designers and a few quality writers. Otherwise I'll just play One page rules which is a generic system I can do what i want with

    • @MNman87
      @MNman87 Місяць тому +1

      I do not mind the lower quality models; it reminds me of when I was a kid in the early 90's. Plus I have a pretty good imagination. Plus there is no way in hell to justify the absorbent costs GW is asking. To me its more about game play, emersion and story.

    • @DeusMachina71
      @DeusMachina71 Місяць тому

      @@MNman87 I'm not buying GW anymore, simply I prefer to 3d print over Mantics kits. I do really like Kings of War rules wise.. I just can't dig the lore or the models particularly when better cheaper options exist. I don't hate Mantic at all, quite the opposite in fact. Had they bumped up the quality I would have bought in more heavily.
