We moved to Idaho since Oregon had gotten so bad. I had moved to Oregon in 1995 and it was beautiful then. My husband definitely liked the weather better here. Also loved the friendliness of the people. Definitely more affordable here.
I live in Southern Oregon. Small town of 2,500. I've been looking at Idaho. Kids are grown now. My thing is off-road riding dirt bike and MTB. Pretty happy here though. I've had good luck with the public school system out here in the sticks. the teachers are very down to earth and no homeless unless I go to Medford.
I’ve lived in the Portland, Oregon area my whole life. New stat just came out, downtown Portland has the highest office vacancy rate of any city in the US!
Very interesting video for me as a fellow Seattleite who moved to Portland around the time you left. I visit Boise for work so know it. None of your decisions seems wrong at all, for example, we’ve felt pushed to put our kids in private school. That said a camping ban and drug recriminalization has passed - whatever the pendulum swinging to the right looks like in Portland, it’s happening.
I am from chicago and the -40 with a wind chill of -72 can be a norm. I loved Portland but it is now a dump. Latest stat says Oregon (portland) and Washington (Seattle, Vancouver) are the most dangerous states. What a stat!?!?
really appreciate this insight, we are having our first child soon. which put a halt on our cross country move to Idaho. I hope that we will be able to in the next few years.

This video should be shared with the Oregon governor and the mayor of Portland. It'll show them their failures and how they're driving away the very people they need.
You totally skirted the Red vs Blue issuers of each state, (and related Gov. policies) sure hope you do not bring Portland Blue to the beautiful state of Idaho!
We left California in 2018. Mostly because of the politics and because we were retired and didn't want to get stuck in California on a fixed income. We brought my elderly parents with us and purchased houses on the same street. We love it here and don't mind the winters at all.
Idaho Native. Lived there in Boise, till 18. Left for the service in 1975. Lived in SF bay area. Came back in 1979, married with twins. Worked and lived in Boise and Meridian till 1986. Btw, population of Boise in 75, 58k, Meridian in 86, 9k. We had to drive Fairview Avenue to Cole Road. For a McDonalds meal out. Hungry Onion was a awesome substitute!😉❤ Moved BACK to Boise in 1995. Caregiver for parents till both passed. Not liking Oregon as I did in 2005. Ready to land back in my native state. Not necessarily the craziness of the valley. Maybe smaller community. You touched on some good points. Especially when you commented about being "out priced" in Portland, my implants from California. Being from Idaho, now able to say, I have lived and worked in 3 incredible States. Watched Silicon Valley go CRAZY Mid 70's all the way through the mid 90's and more. Also witnessed the impact of migration to Idaho. From Californians, and Oregonians and Washingtonians. As student in grade school in the 60's, teacher would introduce new student, "this is _______, they are from California. And yep, class room would groan. Go back. Then in 80's working at HP. Couple of Northern Idaho ex miners, were complaining about Dang Californians ruining our state. I would snicker to myself, (I lived in Palo Alto) and comment. Well if it were for TWO Californians, having a dream idea in a Single car Garage in Palo Alto CALIFORNIA. you guys wouldn't have a job, making good money in 1980's BOISE IDAHO. They would mumble, and quite down. Wishing you and your family many happy years in Boise. I miss my hometown, hope to visit soon. I eventually get my feet back on Idaho soil for good! Merry Christmas, and happy new yea!
I'm in the Idaho Panhandle, but I've been in Oregon some and it isn't very far to drive from Portland to the slopes of Mt. Hood. Pretty country. And you can cross a bridge to the Washington side of the Columbia River and see pretty sights and have very little traffic. And then you have the Tillamook Cheese factory where you can get samples and return and get more samples. I've been there twice and love going there and it isn't that far from Portland. I think Oregon and Washington are both very pretty states, especially the Columbia Gorge.
Sadly, politics have lead to the decline of Oregon in general. I was born & raised in Portland & when I was a teen in the '80's it was very different. I'm married & living out in the suburbs of Gresham now, but having to deal with the idiocy of the leadership of Portland is still nauseating. They've really ruined the entire area. Crime, drugs, & homelessness has over-run the place. I avoid the city at all costs. We had some friends move to ID, above Coeur d'Alene, & went to visit them a few years ago. It was so beautiful & we've been thinking about moving ever since. Unfortunately, Spokane is a big blue city in a big blue state & has many of the same problems Portland has. Too close for comfort. Boise seems to be going in a similar direction, although not as bad, but I just really want to get away from crazy. I've been looking recently at Idaho Falls. Much smaller, but still has a lot of the amenities we're used to & great access to the outdoors. Last month some other friends moved to ID, outside of Lewiston, & we're going to go visit them next weekend. A bit small for my tastes, but we'll see. Thanks for these videos Craig. I've really enjoyed getting to know ID from afar. 😊
We live in Vancouver, Wa and it use to be beautiful like the old Portland (BC) [before covid] Now, Vancouver has become a human dumping ground too. We are looking for land and to move to Big Sky country people are so much nicer and real. Not over done sign yeilding Hippocretes (hope I spelled that right).
This should be why I left “Portland” and moved to “Boise” because the rest of Oregon doesn’t wanna be lumped into Portland. Boise doesn’t have the coast, Boise doesn’t have Hood, Bachelor, the Sisters, Crater Lake the list goes on. So again you talking just life in Portland.
Of course, 4 seconds and 7 seconds are both Stanely Idaho. It’s a small mountain town north of Sun Valley Idaho. I don’t have a film on Stanely Idaho but here is one on Sun valley Idaho you may enjoy. ua-cam.com/video/pQReVW9l4Ik/v-deo.html What has you considering Idaho?
All over Portland metro and outskirts have got insanely crowded over the past 10-15 years. They keep building high rise apartments, condos and town home everywhere! Prices for rent will continue to rise. Eventually, we'll get pushed out, or we'll move somewhere more affordable for retirement. Thought of Idaho, but I love living within driving distance near the coast too much. I'd just like to live where it's less crowded, less expensive and among people where a majority are fairly conservative, clean wholesome, respectful, non-judgmental individuals. Would rather not live among fake nice superficial Mormons. I was raised around them 20+ years to know how many of them behave.
We are at the point that who cares if you offend people. It's called freedom of speech, if you don't like it simply move on or counter it with a better argument. Edit: why type of you do to allow you to be anle to move into another state? I live in southern California and moved to a new city in 2019 that had affordable housing but had just started a new job where the pay wasn't there. Now im making the most I've ever mad but now thr housing is unaffordable haha.
Yes, 4 seconds in of the bluff on the right with houses on it and the valley on the left, 7 seconds in of the town in the foreground and the mountains in the background. Thank you.

Perfect! If you keep being outvoted as happens in a representative democracy and you don’t feel you’re being represented, then you move to where people share your values - not take 3/4 of the land and make it Idaho. You have to move to Idaho if you want to live in Idaho.
I moved from Oregon to Idaho. But then again I inherited my grandfather's ranch here in Lewiston. I've also lived in Boise. If you move to Idaho because you want to go to Boise. You need your brain explored. Boise is the worst of the worst in Idaho. You'd be better off moving to Spokane. So you like Boise State as a university. Not a problem, then get the hell out. Ask the predecessors.
I feel bad for Oregon. It used to be my favorite place, myself growing up in Idaho. I looked forward to every trip there, Columbia Gorge, Multnomah Falls, Gardens in Portland, Seaside, Newport, etc.... Now the far left crowd took over and are ruining for everyone even those on the east side of the state. Idaho has a problem though. If tech explodes in Boise you'll find people chasing money that don't care about the place they live in.
Idoho is better in every way Taxes, crime, people expenses, stress, traffic 😅 also i found people in Vancouver and Portland very introverted and mean sometimes even RACIST.
Grew up in Idaho. You're conveniently leaving out the bad part of Idaho. Plenty of white sheets in those closets , and those people are flocking there as well. Not everyone can afford Boise and the surrounding areas. MAGAs may think its the promised land ( and probably is) but it's 2 steps away from becoming The Handmaid's Tale for anyone else.
Literally the exact reasons why I want to move to Idaho from Portland. want a good place to raise my future family, Going to go to Job Corps soon to become an electrician once I graduate, they’ll help me move to where I want. Your videos got me wanting to move to Moscow or Lewiston
Moscow and Lewiston are great options. Also, I use to be an Electrician. I did residential and commercial for two years. I have some good friends who are electricians. It’s a great trade and skill to have. I’ve rewired all the homes I’ve owned and helped countless friends.

All reasons Idaho is a great state to live in.
Another Truth 100%
You left portland because of failed democrat policy
100%
Truth!!
Exactly!

Moved to AZ. OR was beautiful, but yes! Winters in Gpass were depressing. Oh! & let's not forget the politics and drug addicts
How are you liking Arizona?
I’ve lived in the Portland, Oregon area my whole life. New stat just came out, downtown Portland has the highest office vacancy rate of any city in the US!
This doesn’t surprise me.
Sad to hear
I think Portland has the worst stats of any state on most topics currently.
Please vote republican, that's why you moved here.
Liberals that flee blue cities to red states are clueless. They still vote blue. Sad

Idaho is full please deposit your money and leave lol.
Wages don't keep pace with house prices in Idaho. So many moved there that housing prices went higher quickly.
Great video. We moved to Montana from Texas, winters were definitely a new experience. Our first first winter it hit -42* real temp, -60* wind chill!
Thanks
Where in Montana did you move?
Yah, I couldn’t do those winters.
@@livinginidaho Not far from Livingston. Found out it hit -45* Dec 2022. It doesn't last long, but when it's on it's chilly :)
