It's HUGE for Gunlance mains to get something new for shelling since augmentation did not do it justice. 20% extra DMG is a lot through Sneak Attack. Absolutely love it
@@jeppehst9387 the japanese version of the skill text is boost damage by x1.05, x1.1 and then x1.2. In the english version they use percentage, so it should be 5%, 10% and 20%. But the mistranslation happened when whoever did it confused 1.2 for 12% instead of 20%.
Well on the not attacking the head thing: You can still attack the head and triggering sneak attack at the same time, the only requirement is where you position in relation to the monster’s direction. So attacks that are vaguely facing in the same direction as the monster is still counted everywhere.
1:49 Charge blade phials do benefit from attack boosting skills like attack boost, they just don't crit. Every raw damage boosting skill applies to impact phials while element skills apply to element phials.
I always had Gunlance as like a secondary main, but in Sunbreak its become my main... Main. It lets me play safe while also allowing me to do big bursts of damage
I do hope that the MH teams figure out shelling properly in future games. It feels like nobody on the team really plays GL. Nobody wants level 7 shelling capcom!
@@ek9750 the risk vs reward for GL just isn’t really there. If I’m going to be up close and personal with the GL give me the reward of shell damage please. Meanwhile LBG is dancing around outside strike zones and getting all the glory.
Randomly picked up gunlance the other day. Mostly dual blades main here. Just wanted something new, but it’s been an absolute blast *hehe*. Most fun I’ve had with MH in awhile honestly.
Agree. Lance has gotten all the attention in terms of buffs and has made me consider switching over. But I always find myself going back to GL in the end
As a gunlance main this is amazing, though I find the usefulness for almost every other weapon to be niche at best. "If everyone starts attacking the back, we might have a new dilemma" shouldn't be a problem, because your max DPS is still the head in most situations. 20% increase in damage means that if a tail has a 45 hitzone, the head only needs a 54 hitzone to go even. Couple that with 3 highly limited armor slots to even get sneak Attack, and I'd say that in reality a hitzone of 50 on the head is enough because of the extra damage you can expect with the additional armor options. If the tail hitzone is 44 or lower, however, it's not at all "worth it" over the head (assuming the head is at least 45) since WEx is also a 20% damage boost that doesn't require dedicated armor, but only starts proccing at 45 hitzone.
I guess I see what they were going for then. If the gunlance is supposed to have more than less flat and consistent damage throughout a hunt, then attacking a monster whether front or back ought to reflect that same design decision. It’s interesting.
damn nice timing today i started gunlance and had a blast the only problem was the damage was pretty bad compared to dualblades and didnt know how to get more damage after i got load shells and artillery didnt care tho and just got 3 wirebug whisper and a shit ton of defensive and sharpness skills but now I CAN GET MORE POWERRRR
Gunlance is often seen as a big joke when it comes to DPS, so this was a nice addition. However, they need to keep it up in the next updates because Lvl8 shelling is as good as it gets and without new skills coming the other weapons will most definitely out-do Gunlance easily with new armors and weapons coming out.
It's quite sad to see that while lucent narga and the metal raths got fun skills to play around with, seething bezel just got guts and random assortment of skills and did not benefit the boomstick at all.
Amm we still got the short end of the stick, there are still only like 6 GL that can do the max damage with this new skill x.x, and dont even make start with how bad they did us with the garangolm GL -.-
For me (and me only) it's not really worth It. Narga's armor slots are utter bad and if you don't have a godly charm then the build it's not optimized. In my set up I have everything and more, while with narga's armor... Meh
Im the only gl main who hate by fellow. Hunter because im a bullet barrage spammer having wirebug wisper 3 ,they kick. Me or after hunt they trow small bomb at me lol
Wish they gave reverse blast to the HBG instead. Just doesnt really fit the gunlance, although cool you found a way to use it it realistically shouldnt be hitting the monsters hitbox but w/e.
Even with sneak attack, gunlance is still one of the lowest damage weapons. Gunlance can get a flat increase with sneak but besides mace, so can HBG, or GS, or bow, or LBG, or SnB, or LS, or CB, or SA. Gunlance still needs a rework to be worth the trouble in my opinion, to much effort for so little gains. Even lance has an excuse for it's low damage since it's designed for a more chill hunting style.
I agree with everything except the lance. Lance if anything is a top contender in the speedrun department. And because it has great defensive options it allows you to output more dps than MOST weapons
I think gunlance is the best it's ever been in Rise/Sunbreak. Definitely doesn't need a rework, maybe a slight buff to damage, but honestly I never feel weak or underpowered when I play gunlance, and I haven't even fought Lucent Narga yet as I've been grinding anomaly research. Gonna have to change that though
GL doesnt need a rework, what they need is for capcom to stop favoring other weapons, buff GLs overall damage and start putting max level shelling GLs. Why would a rarity 10 GL has lvl 7 or even 6 shelling?
CaoSlayer fans saw it first. I was curious if it was actually something different because of the bloated as hell repetitive intro, but it was covered mad early in TU1. Its just wierd to know Bazel who's whole deal is explosions doesn't benefit gunlance but a sneaky poison cat does ..
Maybe if they buff blast in the future, gunlance gets some love. They may have overcorrected for World's blast damage
What's weird is the blast elder dragon doesn't have a gun lance
WHERE MY BOOM STICK BOYS AT?! 💥💥💥
RIGHT HERE BABY!!

CaoSlayer talked about too a bit ago. What is horrible is that most of the “new” rarity 10 gunlances it only goes to rank 7 shelling
We get like 2 good normal shelling gnl total :(
And Praetorian doesn't even have purple sharp for smacking!!

I'm sad it doesn't effect kinsects/Awakened Kinsect Attack.
just asking whats its the armor build? because maybe i wanna build this
The damage potential is bonkers. I need to try this out.
BOOM STICK IS BEST STICK!!!
Guys try running minds eye with sneak attack
Did I miss something? Where is the equipment load out?
"Had a blast with the gunlance", haha... Love puns
The union of the better sides
What armor pieces is he wearing ???
To get Sneak Attack Lv3, you need to wear Lucent Narga Gauntlets, and Boots.
we need more shelling 8
What’s the build?
He's been having a "blast" lol
Finally we get something as gl users
What if you combine this with part breaker? U just gonna tap that ass and tail will just fall off LOL gotta test this build.
Yes yes skill is nice. No doubt. But the armor slot is sh*t
Funlance!!!
Wait, so attack skill is not that important on gunlance then?
I sub-main gunlance. Sneak attack is a MUST now for any shelling type gunlance build. The dmg is is good!!!
