"I have evade extender so my hops will be slightly longer"
*Jumps into another continent*
Is that evade extender at max lvl or....
Honestly tho just having level 2 and you’re flying everywhere
@@hit9819 me too it’s awesome.
If you're using GL, you can actually do that.
I sidestepped once and now I'm back in Pokke
DO NOT and I repeat DO NOT listen to this video and use evade extender!!!!! I performed a long back hop and it jumped my character so far back I am now playing Monster Hunter Tri.
Not bad tbh
Is the online still broken with hacks?? Lol
😂😂🤣🤣
Goddamned 😭
Hhahhahaha
I did the double back hop with evade extender and flew back into last week! Now I have to wait for the game to come out again.
Just so you know, I spit out my water at this. Still giggling about it.
@@matthewfera2954 this got a proper chuckle out of me as well hahaha
I got a good cackle out of that
😂😂😂😂😂
Lmaoooooooo
Right after watching = I am now a master of the Gunlance.
In game = I don't remember a damn thing i just watched. 😐
Right after watching: this'll be a helpful guide to help me fight strategically!
When fighting: *AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA*
Right after watching: Nice weapon have to try it
In Game = Or I stay with my heavy bowgun „Ratttattttttta“
Right after watching: this should be an easy switch from my lance
After trying in game: naw I think I shall just poke things normally
After he finished a section I copied what he did in my game until it stuck
Gotta apply that information to have it stick. This morning I spent 15 minutes practicing the full burst chain combo, because I had never been able to do repeated full bursts before. I got it down in the training room and am now out on low rank hunts to build the fundamentals skills required to successfully use gun lance.
Whaaat? 50 minutes? This is some masterclass level material.
gunlace masterclass
Good lord I’m about to learn so much
Didnt realise it was 50mins til i read this comment!
Except he doesn't have a clue about how to use wide shelling properly...
@@manuelmsp how do i use wide shelling properly then mate?
A 50 minute guide for gunlance... you really do love the heck out of this weapon.
It's understandable, the gunlance is an awesome weapon.
Boom stick
@@jaredaadland9692 yep agree, touched it in Rise the first time in my MH carrier (first fleeter btw). It is so much fun. Also evade extender is op in Rise. 👍
@@johannesnagengast7643 monster hunter world was my first mh game. I got generations ultimate later and I thoroughly enjoyed gunlance in both games.
Yes we all like the walking artillery unit
At first I was scared because the video was 50mins and i literally just picked up this weapon, but after the first 30mins I learned more than I even thought I could lol thanks for teaching me some tricks!
I literally learnt all I know about Gunlance through Rurikhans videos lol
This is literally the best the GL has ever been.
Hell, its really hard to go back to previous versions of this weapon.
I was happy that it was closer to Worlds, but Capcon outdone themself, this time around.
@@MasterLink19 While I DO miss Valor GL; I absolutely love how it is now.
Maybe when Rise Ultimate comes out, we can swap another switch skill for the crazy fast shelling.
@@pockystyx4087 hopefully in less than 2 years
@@MasterLink19 data leaks said something about a 1+ year; but that was before Covid.
I can wait though; team deserves a rest.
Ehhh not sure bout that one cheif. I missing being able to keep a monster tripped and not to mention the shelling nerf…
Rurikhan, Hail Cutter can be used anytime midair where it goes straight to the reload and then to the vent upon reaching the ground, skipping the rising up part that occurs when it is used on the ground.
Notably it can be used after Aerial Shelling. One of my favorite combos is Blast Dash -> Aerial Shelling -> Hail Cutter. I Blast Dash to a spot above the monster, Aerial Shell to adjust which direction I am facing, and then reload plus WF vent with Hail Cutter when going down to the ground. It lets me use Hail Cutter from further away and from a safer position (midair) compared to the normal grounded version.
This is the ultimate use for Hail Cutter. I'm impressed it has no comments and only 6 likes. Thanks a lot for this information!
Also Hail seems to be atleast decent w/ wideshelling, as u can get faster Wyvernfire, that can stun.
Stop making me fall in love with the Gunlance all over again
I believe the one thing you forgot is the upward poke while shielding. Easy access to heads/flying monsters that way, and you can shell afterwards too. Also shelling from the the upward swing can do the same.
Very useful against Rathalos
mhr decided to give gl a vertical wyrmstake - almost like there would be things over our heads and not just a angled up shot either lol
It's also extremely safe if you aren't sure you have a window for bigger attacks. You can return to a block really quickly from this move. I've blocked so many attacks directly after doing this that I could swear should have absolutely hit me. It isn't strong, but it's quite nice in its versatility.
that's a really weak attack and you shouldn't use it in most cases, honestly. the X+A is far stronger.
@@non_da You're right that it's stronger, but it doesn't really matter, because the times at which you can and have reason to use either are so different that they really don't compete at all.
You cannot uppercut straight out of guard (and using a Guard Thrust into the uppercut is faster than dropping guard first). You typically have no reason to Guard Thrust if you weren't guarding just before, fringe cases or safe play aside. If you're doing either to aim a shell or stake, it literally doesn't matter, you use what you need. If you play a sweep combo playstyle (full burst or swinglance), you just use whichever gets you into the combo loop faster, which depends on the starting position.
Both have their uses, and they differ too much to say one is better.
I don’t even play gunlance. I just like watching your videos.
I can't quite put to words how much I appreciated this guide. I was already playing very similarly to this but with holes in it, so my fighting felt disjointed. Integrating a few things I was missing really made me more effective overall. Recommending it to everyone in my hunting circle with an interest in this awesome dumb boomstick.
So I was playing around in the training room thinking to myself: “I wonder if Ruri put out anything about Gunlance yet”. Decided to check: “Posted 18 minutes ago” YES!!!! Thank you man, you are one of the main reasons I keep coming back to this wonderful weapon.
Love how detailed this guide is. Started playing with gunlance as a secondary weapon while deco farming and this is one of the only guides I’ve found to be helpful.
Hell yes Ruri, this is possibly your best weapon guide yet. Your love for the game and the weapon really shines through every frame. I was considering maining gunlance for the story in Rise but wasn’t really sure about it. Thanks to your video I now feel like I have all the information I need to understand and be effective with the weapon, and I’m super excited to try it out! Thank you sir.
I just made a huge discovery that wasn't in the video. You can change the angle of charged shelling by moving the left stick while the shot is charging
I noticed he accidentally did it at 38:40. :3
Thank you so much for this video. Gunlance mains rise up baby!!!! 💪🏽🙌🏽💪🏽🙌🏽
Pun intended?
Finally getting to play this with the PC release. Gunlance was my favorite in World and watching this it looks even better in Rise! I love the Aerial shelling. The wire bug opens up a lot of possibilities and new found mobility that I felt the weapon was missing.
The guide itself is very well put together. Good formatting and in-depth explanation!
I'm literally blown away by the changes to gunlance in this game- blast dash was so much fun in GU and the extra shell is just nice- but it kinda feels like they hate wide.
@@thatparkerkid368 I mean, I hope stun skills work for wide, since apparently focus doesn't do anything for it. I'm a little baffled about it otherwise.
Thank you for this video, gunlance is the one weapon I have avoided for years due to ignorance and unwillingness to learn. I’m definitely going to practice and use your video as reference in the future so I can really give this weapon a chance that it deserves.
This is absolutely the best weapon tutorial for any weapon and any Monster Hunter game. The patient demonstrations, thorough explanations, very good organization in general. This video is the sole responsible for bringing me into the Funlance Fray. Thank you very much for this video tutorial, definitely one of the best (if not the very best) for MH!
Thank you! I've been looking for a good comprehensive guide for gunlance and this came out just in time.
Just made my first gunlance build because of you. Blast dash has fixed my only problem ive had with the weapon which was repositioning made me feel like I was in one of those dreams where your in a hurry to get somewhere and your running but somehow your going slower than a turtle. This thing is awesome now!
I didn't know a lot of this about the Gunlance! The aerial shelling I discovered, but not the full burst! Amazing.
I've been playing Gunlance for a bit now and after deciding to main it I found this video and learned so much. Thanks a lot for your amazing guide!
I just got the game as my first MH last week and after trying out the Longsword and not really feeling it, I fell in love with the Gunlance, so this was very helpful! Thank you!
I appreciate you going through things in full and not just assuming knowledge of world. I even played through world, but it's been a while and I barely remembered how gunlance worked.
On a whim i decided to try Gunlance during the demo and i was surprised by how much i liked it. This video has been super helpful, thanks!
I just did a hunt with Lagombi and the gun lance and it was great! I have been playing for years and avoided the GL but I actually really enjoyed that. Thank you!
Ah the gentlemen that taught me how to be OP with the GL in World. Is back.
*with a 50 fucking minute video*.
Such a good guide. I main GL, and this helped me understand all the capabilities in Rise. Its long, but with the chapters you can just come back in a practice the moves you need. Thank you!
I always wanted to try out gunlace, this video is the last straw that I needed to finally learn it, Tha KS 😁😁
I appreciate you going into the full details of the weapon. A guide for the ages!
50 minutes?! On a guide for Gunlance!?
*O* *H* *Y* *E* *A* *H*
this guide is literally the meme "but wait...there's more"
however thanks to you i finally picked up the gunlance and love every second of it
thanks c:
Never really been a fan of the slower weapons, but I've been trying the gunlance these days and it's so cool! This guide is a 10/10!
I don't really feel like I need blast dash when using evade extender on long shelling. I really love having charged shells to keep cranking out fast wyrmstakes since it ticks 2 more times. Charged shells on long truly makes it feel like long can do it all. It really puts the "Gun" in Gunlance.
This is what's beautiful about the switch skill system, it let's everyone play how they want to play and keeps the community unique and fresh!
I hope you see this sir. Thank you so much for this guide! I was a LBG main at first but it became so monotonous and I hated having to wait for wyvern shot so I was branching out to new weapons. First I tried switch axe but that was way too complicated. Next was gun lance and I found this, it helped so much and I love the class! Tanking with good damage output, and the blast charge helps immensely with mobility. Thank you again for this guide! I hope you consider going over other weapons as well!
Lifetime ranged player here, been maining light bowgun in Rise. Was thinking about trying GL, cause I enjoyed it in the demo. I found your video, and just wanted to say:
Thank you! This video was so incredibly in depth, and helped me switch from just flailing around to actually USING the weapon. Ive been a ranged player since I started playing in 4U, so trying melee I always struggle on the whole idea of waiting your turn, doing the parts of your combo you can, and then backing off again. But after finding and watching through your entire guide, I got back out there and felt SOO much more confident in what I was doing. Managed to kill an HR Ratholos without dying (which when melee is great for me) and felt like such a chad when I combo'd into the wyrmstake to cut off the tail.
Great guide, thank you for all the time and info, it helped so much to not only hear the combos, but how and when to utilize what parts of them. Gonna be sticking with GL for a while, and may try actually shifting into maining it a bit more
I picked up Gunlance for the PC release because it's the one weapon I never understood and couldn't get to work for me in any MH game. It just never felt good. And this time I was not going to quit, even if it felt bad I would persevere and learn the darn thing.
This guide changed everything. You ever watch a speedrun or an experienced player use a weapon and you just think "damn, I wish I knew how to do that!" Well, this guide taught me all that! It finally shown me how to play this weapon without it feeling like a clunky mess. I played through about 10 low rank hunts with it now and it already feels amazing! It clicked and it clicked really hard, I am enjoying it so much more than I thought I could. It's amazing how much of a change a good guide makes. Hats off Rurikhan, splendid job.
Tried it,
Now i'm loving this gunlance
thank you for your very thorough guide!
I've been waiting to pick up the gunlance until after you made a video like this. Now I feel prepared for gunlancing.
This has to be the best gunlance Guide ever. Thank you lad.
Coming fresh out of the charge blade's new counter I feel a good opener to mention is to counter the roar for the quick wyrmstake or slam as well. Great video, really helped explain all the new mechanics since I last played GL.
Brilliantly narrated guide to the Gunlance. Exactly what I needed. You've done a great job here boss.
With the release of 3.0, my friend who got less interested because he hit a wall against Chameleos, came back with newer vigor and interest to the game.
He did a little weapon searching since he found Hunting Horn boring, longsword too much, and bow too demanding of inputs.
He said he wanted to try gunlance. And I showed him a clip of mine doing hail cutter on Ibushi in rampage with counter signal. Aerial shelled him to bring it down with the aerial slam while Proof of a Hero played in the background.
He got sold. And I showed him your guide to gunlance. He feels much more at home now. And feel so proud to have converted him to the FUNLANCE gang.
Gunlance was one of my mains in MHW and I still learned a bunch from this video. Thanks a lot 👍🏻
A GunLance main from 2nd Fleet, still watching this kind of videos.
Keep the booming!
Outstanding! Thank you, brother. Would love see a Sword & Shield Ultimate Guide next! My wife just started MWR and that weapon suits her atm.
I don't normally leave too many comments or likes but this video deserves it, breaks down everything. Even helpful for me who has been maining gunlance since freedom unite. Great job.
Insta-sub. This has inspired me to pick up the gunlance. Not to mention being the perfect, in-depth guide I need (and enjoy). Glad you exist and keep making content for as long as it makes you happy!
Just so you know, this guide made me love gunlace, especially for the infinite burst combo, the amount of times I broke parts of monsters or knocked them down was impressive
Nice video, good commentary ans I really like how with each shelling type you talk about what specific combo you want to use. I have mixed them up quite a bit in the past so I am glad that I now know what to do with each shelling type.
Played a lot of GL in World and watching the video from the start was still helpful as heck. Thanks!
Thank you for this vid. I've been trying to figure out that Blast Dash thing for a couple days now, but none of the other vids I've seen told how to do it. 👍👍
Been waiting for this guide before starting gunlance. Can’t wait to go brrrrrrrrrr
Thank you for making this guide, I look forward to putting this into practice!
Hey thanks for the guide, will trying the skills out as the guide was playing and it really helped me pick it up.
Felt like an hands on lecture haha
Oh damn you got me. I'm a LS main. But after I saw your guide, I gave gunlance a try. And omfg it is amazing. Boom Boom Boom... I love it 😀👍🏼
you've convinced me to main the gunlance when i eventually pick up MH Rise on the pc. heck might even try it out in iceborne
What a guide 👌🏽 Just what I was looking for, appreciated!
Dude again your style is great, so glad to find these now that I'm finally playing rise
solid guide lots of good tips. there was a ton of stuff I didn't know about gunlance but I hardly use it so that makes sense. Might start using it more now tho.
Thanks for putting this guide out. I just started watching it now. But I appreciate you doing this. I’ve always been curious about the Gunlance. But I don’t know what it’s “bread and butter combos” are so this is good for me to watch.
Also I really hope you do a video on my main weapon the Hammer. I don’t have the game quite yet because my copy was caught in a shipping delay. But I would love to watch a guide on the weapon before I get my copy. Whenever that may be.
As a fellow hammer boy myself I can tell you it's pretty much the same as it is in world but now has the addition of the silk bind skills. Its fantastic and I've destroyed almost every monster in the game so far with it.
I Just came here from your colab with Arekkz vid, I Usually watch hes videos for everything monsterhunter (at 0.75 speed)
Nothing bad about Arekkz but cudos to you man, i love the tempo here - feels like a slowpoke like me can actually follow along and learn this stuff!
Great vid!
My mind was blown when I found out u can charge shells in the air 👌🏻 Not a game changer but still so fun. Glad GL got so much love this time around
The only gunlance guide on UA-cam that matters.
@@gamecavalier3230 right?
What an impressive video, thank you for your work and explications. You gave me the interest to play Gunlance since MH world ! Again thank you
Thanks for this man!, Haven't played Gunlance since MH freedom definitely picking it up this time around
I see 50 minutes i was scared but i watch all the video every information is good and im happy that the first weapon you do a Ultimate guide is the gun lance good job !
this guide helped me out a ton, thanks for taking the time to make it!
I really appreciate the format of your videos. Very informative!!
was cool to have this type of guide for all weapons
I decided to main Gunlance during Rise, and this video really helped give me some tips.
Thank you. Just thank you. :)
I'm going for a full playthrough of gunlance on Mouse and keyboard, so this helped me a lot.
I've been watching your gunlance runs... So I want to learn. Looks fun!
Love the effort you put into these weapon guides, keep up the great work man!
Cant wait for your guide on charge axe you are why i even played MHW now im following again for Rise
Thanks for this video i just picked up gunlance and was lost so im glade you really broke it down ive played insect glaive, hammer, switchaxe and im excited to get down with the gunlance need something different and fresh
Trying MH games for the first time with MH Rise and this video was very very useful. Thank you Ruri!
Why is this more clear and comprehensive than most of my university courses were?
Because this is probably something you are genuinely interested in and are paying attention to
because this is teaching you skills/information instead of how to pass an exam/assessment
Damn, thank you for all this! I'm enjoying it so far, trying Gun Lance first time. It's a lot.
I appreciate you, ya got my sub!
Oh man I came to your channel knowing full well you would have a good guide for the gunlance
Boy was I not expecting a 50 minute video i guess I got some learning to do lol.
Really glad I picked up gunlance in rise! Super fun weapon!
I'm going to learn gunlance in rise (looks so much fun) and this video will be my bible. Thanks ruri for all the hard work.
I regret I have but one like to give for this video. This is the kind of content that we genuinely appreciate! Thank you for the time you put into making it!
Just really wanted to thank you for this guide. I was playing wide lance until today, thanks to this video I changed :D
Being able to fast reload a whole clip is a gamechanger, I am from MHGU and I was Wide gunlancing there.
Right now, with quite low armour set, I mixed rhenoplos for artillery and volvidon legs for evade.
Getting the Ground Splitter is amazing through roars.
I prefer the Long gunlance as well, will see after I go to multiplayer to see if I change to normal/wide if I hit teammates to much. :D
thanks dude, i am a long time lance player (that we all know be the best weapon), and you inspired me to play the Gun lance.
The video i really useful!
Regarding blast dash... i suspect some developer of Quake 3 arena joined the capcom team...it reminds me a lot rocketjump.
keep releasing good content on MHR
I was dead set on mastering the LS, and after this vid and your "objective review of the GL", back on blasting mons.... *blast away*
Gunlance has always been my favorite weapon but i switched things up and used a few others for low rank but as soon as I unlocked blast dash I've bean maining the boom stick for days again and this video really helped me master all the new and old ways to use it.
forgot to mention that Long (and i think normal as well) do cutting dmg on wyrmstake, meaning you can cut tails. while Wide wyrmstake does impact, meaning you can stun monsters by putting the wyrmstake in the monster's head.
Very well put together, thanks for the video!
Amazing video the first guide I watch all the way though KEEP IT UP!!!!
I've watched 50 minutes of video about gunlance and I'm really happy with all of that
Im not even remotely interested in the Gunlance because im a hunting horn main... but this guide made me feel like i have finally mastered Gunlance gameplay...
After they massacred the hunting horn I have come to be a gun lance main for this game

Hopefully I'll get the game. But I love to see you using the GL, even on training room. Started this weapon because of you and will stay forever because GL is THAT good. Haha Happy hunting! Thx for another well explained guide!
Never played a Monster Hunter game and this video deftly help out a lot.
I ain't a gunlance main, hell, I don't even own a switch to play the game, but damn this is a good guide
