Why Does Yuto Horigome Refuse to Skate Twin Tails?
Вставка
- Опубліковано 23 сер 2024
- Yuto Horigome is one of the most talented skateboarders in the world. I recently setup Yuto Horigome's april skateboard deck after skating twin tail skateboards for months. I wondered why has Yuto Horigome not switched to a twin tail like ishod, paul rodriguez, and jamie foy just to name a few. What are the benefits of Yuto Horigome's april board shape and how does that impact Yuto Horigome's skateboarding specifically Yuto Horigome's bag of skateboard tricks?

Man you improved so so much since your first video, thats crazy! Also the videos got much better, I'm a fan ^^!
I’m glad you think so!
Traditionally the longer nose does two things, it helps level out the board faster for Ollie’s, it also gives you a faster and easier pop for Nollies.
Andy Anderson does a great break down on all of this when he introduced his new twin tip shape. Also how he made it wider and heavier in the middle to create a more level flip and center of gravity for tre-flips.
As far as faster pop for nollies, for me I think it comes down to wheel base and steepness of the board, cause I tried primitive boards which also have long and full noses and the nose felt to steep and I kept not getting the pop I needed out of my nollies, and I tried Maltos shape from girl and April and those noses are mellower but because of the shorter wheelbase the pop is a lot quicker but also more mellow and I can’t get my timing right on my nollie tricks because of how quick the nose hits and how mellow the pop is
I like a tapered tail for scooping and a wide nose for flips and noseslides.. that's the main thing for me
You got the 8.25" shape (which I love) but Yuto skates the 8" mold (based on statements he's made in interviews) which is fairly different. The 8.25" has a long 6.8" tail that is VERY mellow for a quick low pop and fast flick. Also, the April 8.25" nose and tail are basically the same steepness, but the nose is a hair longer and wider.
If you like 8.25" decks there are two I want to try. 1. Girl/Chocolate GO52 (The one made by PSTIX). I 've tried the Chinese made GO52 and it was nice, but maybe the concave was too flat. It's a lot like the APril 8.25" but tweaked. you look for a GO52 get one pressed by PSTIX. 2. The second deck I really want to try is the Neighborhood 8.25" that Ben Degros is hyping. the specs look very good for me.
Are we going to get a video on those DCs ?
Yeah coming soon
8:18 Yes nose is usualy steeper, but also much longer, which in combination actually often leads to smaller raise or vertical degree when popped. You can check that by pushing your tail to the ground and then measuring the height from ground to the nose and vice versa. You will see that usually when popped from tail the board raises more, which is more leverage = more pop
You still need to try the Maurio Mc Coy VX twin ! I was using the Girl/Chocolate twin before but the McCoy is actually much nicer
I know I should but they’re pricey
@@localjoe ah yes I do tend to watch for when they go on sales . I find the local distributor sells the last model cheaper when a new graphic comes out
It’s a great shape but the VX decks razor tail soooooo fast
I'm on the reverse of that, I'll be setting up my second Girl Malto twin for the spring and it's amazing. But I've had my eye on that McCoy. And Welcome twins.
Seeing some definite progression 📈 one thing I will point out is , when we get pro boards at the shop a lot of times a pros graphic won’t have that’s pros shape , so yuto might be riding a slightly different shape , the April team graphic I rode had the same dimensions.
Yuto seems to skate the 8” shape
Agreed, there are some shapes pros ride that never make production. Unless the pro their self states what they ride somewhere one surely won’t know it’s something the public has access to. It’s all marketing to get sales, that’s why pro graphics will make it onto sizes they don’t even skate. Easy one is DGK, Kalis and Stevie Williams roll on 7.8 and 7.9 respectively, if they were to limit their graphics to those sizes only, they’d take a massive hit on sales.
@@reup4023 Another good example is Louie Lopez. He also rides twin tail but all his FA boards for sale have shovel noses
@@skateplusrice you sure about that? Louie doesn‘t skate production shape?
@@SchwappSchwopp yeah he said it in an interview last year for the premier of as you wish. Also if you look at the footy, his shapes dont match any production shape, even the shape 2 that has less of a shovel nose
You did a job job editing this video too bro!!
What did you like about it?
At the end where you normally talk you added in footage and that helped keep my attention. Its definitely something I’m going to use when Im editing my own videos.
Lol I had no idea there really is a tail and nose on skateboard, just checked mine and I can see it now. 😅
before twins were a thing I always preferred the nose as my tail felt like I had more control over my flip tricks. I would like to see more twin nose shapes all I've been able to get are ishod twins lately(which are great) but so far my favorite twin is the welcome evil twin.
Twin nose is def the way
Hey joe that tre flip you did looked great 👍🏾
Thanks 👍
Yuto seems to skate the 8 or 8.1 shape because he skates Venture lows which come in only 7.6 or 8.0 axle size and seems to fit pretty flush with the deck he rides 🤔
I remember reading somewhere that he skates an April 8.125 with venture low lights
@@skwibblez9239 He seems to be on regular V lows 🤔
Brings me back to the Mike Valley barnyard deck. That was just as trendy. Shit be going in circles. Can't wait for tail and nose guards to comeback.
Neen Williams pro model deck is twin nose. Maurio McCoy has a twin shape too it's pretty rad. Cheers
3:37 had my headphones on, had me buggin. nice vid Joe.🎧
I'm not 100% sure but I reckon you could get board rails to protect your graphic.
Not a skateboarder myself but a fan of it (Skate games, fingerboarding etc).
I just got Chris Robert's Chocolate Twin 8.25. Sean Malto has basically the same shape but it is on Girl.
Great conversation. The Bucky Lasek Flight board has 6.5" nose and tail but it's not twin shaped. I'm looking forward to understanding how it works.
Appreciate the upload. This board looks like a great one to skate. And that park keeps lookin better and better on film 🤙
When I was a kid and still now, I skate my board both ways. Never think about it, get similar grooves on both trucks and its chill.
I think twin tails are good in theory but imo the standard nose bigger than tail will prevail
I think there’s always gonna be both
I skate mine with the bigger tail than nose
Twin nose where it’s at
@@urdadnevercamehomewiththem1023 same thing
Yuto is Ninjaaaa,no doubt!
I like your shoes,are they Ishod's?
No DC Metrics pretty similar
@@localjoe nice, finally something different from Nike sb dunks.
I skate twin tail not because of preference but because it can save a little bit of money. you have extra tail whenever one end gets razor tailed, coz here in the Philippines deck prizes really cost a lot
Next board evolution will be symmetrical boards on a spectrum of twin-tail, hybrid nose-tail, twin-noses, and variations in between. A double spectrum, 1 being the kick and 2 being the length. Like Indica, Hybrid, Sativa, and the variations in between.
Twin tip boards are a no brainer ❤ just focus on skating putting less faith and responsibility on the gear and more on the skater.
Well said
Sweet explanation! I love the standard shape personally but having the twin shapes makes sense. It’s all preference at the end of the day
If you are a hyper technical skater that spends more time finessing than doing ledges and rails than for sure it makes sense but for most of us who don't have the money, time, or patience to spend hours a day mastering every difference a twin tail lets us do far more, quicker, cheaper, with less hassle and more joy.
Yuto could skate a lamp shade and still throw bangers all day. Not like him changing to ride a twin is going to make any difference. Having a nose to get you more pop is great but if you don't have good board control it's useless and hindering. Idk, I've ridden nose+tail for so many years, but I've been on twins for 3 years and do skate a lot of switch and nollie with zero issues. Definitely tradeoffs both ways but the benefits of a twin seem better for me.
Joe your heelflips are looking really good man. Keep trying to tweak that back leg and you’re really start bossin em especially up banks n shit
Yo Dude! Neen Williams once did a video about flatten his nose and tail. He rolled over the board with his car and stopped when the tire pressures the concave.
Sorry man, i am german so i hope you got what i meant.
Please check this out, it’s like made for you to Local Joe this technic 😊👌

haha i've actually seen this before never tried it tho
@@localjoe so please if you ever try it - make a video. 😊
Ever notice that a squared off front front can keep your pop straight. Maybe it helps you lead with knee.
You have always had a solid heel flip I’m jealous of.
expecting you actually asking him about it
Theres something satisfying about a big nose, I remember the 3D boards when they were around had sweeeet noses and so did skate mental back then.
That being said I skated a Welcome board that was fish shaped and mannnn those things are fun
Yuto knows what he is doing. He can skate what he skates best and it's this board.
just put more pressure and weight over your front foot if you need more control or grip. contrarily popping quick so the front foot gets the suction faster is equally key.
Nice vid. Is that Ivins park?
Is that the grand canyon in the back of the skatepark or wtf? My skatepark is right next to a small river that sometimes carries poop bro 😫
Alotta skaters like bigger nose cuz they skate SW and nollie popping off nose with extra leverage helps equalize the pop to reg so people can skate better SW and nol off nose💪✊
Good looking board 👍
I think the twin tails super power is its consistency
Neen williams is the og twin deck ^^ also how you know that Dylan is skating a twin?
Prod said so in a board setup on his channel because he’s riding Dylan’s twin tail shape now
@@localjoe he’s actually skating a twin nose, which is crazy because primitive boards have such steep and big noses
What shoes r those they look siiick?!?
DC Metric
Thanks man!
Ishod is left handed and Yuto is right handed. One could assume Ishod is left footed and Yuto is right footed. Yet both are goofy. This can also explain the difference in trick selection.
you're quite the name dropper
breakdown lazer crawfords front board?
I can’t do 14” wheelbases, I tried for a while because I love the way the shapes look on most brands with a 14” wheelbase, like girl, April, Primitive, very full noses and longer tapered tails, and a 14” works way for me with certain tricks but will throw off a lot of others, treflips whip around easier with less effort, manuals hold a lot easier, the more mellow feeling makes it easier to commit to tricks down gaps, and easier flip tricks feel nice and mellow on flatground, but I find it harder to get the leverage and pop for more technical tricks, my fs flips suffer a lot cause of that, and I lose all my nollie tricks on a 14” wheelbase because the nose hits so quick and easy and I can’t time it to get the leverage and height I need to get good nollie flips, I recently went back to skating Nyjahs 8.125 mold from Disorder and I really like that shape, the 14.25” wheelbase works great for how I skate, and the board is just so easy to maneuver, probably gonna stick with it for a while
Trucks play a big part since they have an effect on overall wheelbase. I'm short and like a 14" WB with thunders or ventures since it pushes the WB out more, but I've also had good experiences on a 14.5 WB deck with Ace classics. There's a lot of variables at play
@@skwibblez9239 I try to stick to the same truck because I don’t like changing it just for the board I’m riding, but in my experience, a higher truck works with smaller wheelbases, which makes since since most pros on a small wheelbase ride Highs, since highs tend to push the wheelbase out, Venture highs work best with best with a 14” wheelbase, it pushes the wheelbase out a little bit and the height of the truck help make it easier to get the height and leverage for a short wheelbase, but I don’t like high trucks, throws off the timing for all of my nollie tricks, thunders work okay for a 14” wheelbase, the slightly lower trucks makes the board hit the ground fast and you can get the leverage you need for most tricks, but I still feel like it’s not enough leverage for me personally without having to change how I skate, Venture lows do not work with a small wheelbase, and actually make the wheelbase smaller relative to thunders, it’s very difficult to get the heigh and leverage for a lot of tricks, I don’t like aces or independents, and as much as I like the mellowness of a 14” wheelbase, I just can’t do it anymore, was messing up so many tricks for me
Twin nose, 13.5 wheel base would be dope, but a 428 Powell shape .
Definitely agree !
i think its Ben Degros (Touring PS stix with Prif Schmitt) Schmitt provides a great answer on why twin tails arent as great as regular boards. More options with regular boards
yuto real pro
Yuto skates an 8 with venture lows 5.2
Love Sue Shoe's style
Fuckin sick analyzation man 🔥
I personally prefer twin nose. Makes more sense than twin tail, TO ME.
steeper nose teaches the non dominant foot to push more
Paul Rodriguez doesnt skate twin tail, he skates twin nose..
If u don’t wanna ruin a graphic jus get rails, it saves it a lil
I like twin tails but I agree if u like nollie and switch I’d rather go with a deck that has a nose
I skate a lot of nollie and switch and only ride twins
the shit that passes for content these days. Pro skater does not immediately join a craze that handful of others have tried out. "yUtO rEfUsEs tO sKaTe TwInTaIlS!!!" Soon we'll all be skating hybrid twin nose / tails where one end is the nose and one end is the tail.
Haha be about if your gonna talk about it. Makes something better
