Yeah down in a hole was a great performance on unplugged, but I gotta give it to pearl jam for an overall set, nirvana had "where did u sleep with last night" definitely worth a watch. Alotta 90s vocalists stripped down to acoustics did better.
This song is not about addiction. It's about devastating heartbreak and a love so deep that you understand your lover's happiness is greater than your own, even as it comes at your expense. You never get over this. You just learn to live with it. If you have ever felt this, I send you all the white healing light I can. You are not alone.
I “discovered” grunge in my 70’s on reaction channels like this, during the pandemic. I was immediately blown away by the vocals of Eddie Vedder, Layne Staley, Chris Cornell. And then by the lyrics and the fantastic melodic lines. Then, , I noticed what great musicians they all were. And most of them are pretty easy on the eyes too. 😏. Being a rocker from the 60’s and 70’s (yay Zeppelin), I resonated with the power of this music: Grunge seemed to bring a heavy bass and guitar presence back, which I loved.
Welcome to Gen X’s version of the 70’s classics you love. My dad (passed in 2018 aged 71) was a Vietnam vet hippie that loved classic rock so I don’t have any memories of life without rock music in them. My dad, too liked grunge for same reasons as you. Talented musicians that played instruments and sang without computers or auto tuning. It’s sad that Pearl Jam is the last, all members still living, playing together band of the grunge explosion. Eddie, Chris Cornell and Layne Staley have/had some of the most powerful voices I’ve ever heard. Much like a young Robert Plant. (I love 70’s rock too and passed it to my kids..my middle kid (31) and my youngest (13) both play instruments and love old rock. My 13 year old son is a prodigy playing flute, sax, drums, bass and piano and he has all one length long hair that hits his lower back. He would be in heaven to become like Eddie or Layne or Chris. Guess some of these guys were just too great for this life, dying so young overdosing or suicide. Don’t know how Eddie has avoided dying like others but glad he’s still here. Keep listening. This music and talent will never get old!
Welcome to the Pearl Jam rabbit hole! For an emotional second listen, I suggest "Jeremy" (the original uncensored version of the official music video). Their catalogue is vast and well worthy of a deep dive!
Please review Just Breathe! That song is breathtaking, heartbreaking and honestly one of the best songs lyrically ever. I love so many bands and music is my life but Pearl Jam is definitely one of my era’s best ❤
Another very emotional live performance by Eddie is the song “Release” he performed at Wrigley Field August 20 2016. A man camped out days before this concert wanting Eddie to perform this song in memory of his dad who had just died (and you can find that man’s video explaining about it on UA-cam, this whole song might be on that vid). Anyway Eddie was very touched and he did perform “Release” at this live concert for that man and his father. It’s such a powerful song, especially since Eddie never knew his real father and this song originally came from that pain; look up ‘Release’ Wrigley Field August 20 2016 for the right version to react to if you choose. the lyrics: I see the world, feel the chill Which way to go, windowsill I see the words on a rocking horse of time I see the birds in the rain Oh, oh Oh, oh Oh, dear Dad, can you see me now? I am myself, like you somehow I'll ride the wave where it takes me I'll hold the pain, release me Oh, oh I Oh, oh Oh, dear Dad, can you see me now? I am myself like you somehow I'll wait up in the dark for you to speak to me How I've opened up, release me Release me, release me, ah, release me Oh, oh I Oh, whoa, ah ooh, ooh
Thanks Saeed! I have watched this performance more times than I can count. Every time, without fail, when Eddie starts the line "I know some day you'll have a beautiful life..." the tears just flow. It's a gut wrenching performance. ☮
Great song, pure poetry! Brings back great memories! Also, he is quite a pretty man w/ a stunning voice! Great reaction! Sending much love, peace & happiness, always! 🫶🏼✌🏼👏🏼
What an amazing performance! I had a really cool introduction to Pearl Jam. In the fall of 1991, my friends and I drove to Burlington Vermont to see The Red Hot Chili Peppers and the Smashing Pumpkins. There was a new band as the opening opening act. Their debut album had just been released, and we knew their name, but that was it. Pearl Jam. That night, on the drive back to Montreal, we all agreed that Pearl Jam was gonna be HUGE. While the headliners, 2 of our favorite bands, were amazing, we all talking about Pearl Jam as our favorite part of the night. There were a couple dozen people there that night from Montreal. Burlington is only 2 hours away, and the tour wasn't coming here. That show is now legendary in the Montreal rock world as one of the best triple bills ever.
I love how Eddie added the "we belong together" portion at the end of this performance, not part of the recorded song. It's physically painful to listen to Black and overwhelming to the senses in the best possible way. Definitely check out more Pearl Jam if you like incredible poetry. Congrats to being 'on the wagon'!
Yes, that is the correct response to this performance. This is my favorite live performance of any artist ever, and I was never even a big Pearl Jam fan, it's just that good! Eddie's emotion here is so real, so raw, so beautiful. My heart hurts every time, and I love it. I do know that this song was extremely special to Eddie, and he refused to release it as a single. He's quoted as saying, "Fragile songs get crushed by the business ... I don't want to be a part of it. I don't think the band wants to be part of it." And in spite of it never being released as a single, it charted at Number 3!
I'm in my 70s, and I fell in n love with Pearl Jam ony a couple of months ago. Noe I'm deep into the labyrinths of the Vedder rabbit hole... I heard of them, of course, but only really listened attentively very recently. I'm glad I did! ❤❤❤
They’re my daughter’s favorite band, she has seen them live in concert at least 6 times, most recently in Montana a couple months or so ago. She and her fiancé flew there from Colorado just for the concert, and she said over half the passengers on the plane were going to the same concert so it was like a big Pearl Jam party on the plane ha!
I love this performance so much. One of my favorites. Check out the official video to their song Even Flow to see how much fun a PJ concert was in the 90's. Great reaction!! 😊
I can remember having the Ten CD 💿 and blaring it in my car. It was always a great car concert! ❤ Pearl Jam and I had a huge crush on Eddie! He is extremely gorgeous 😂
Check out the entire album TEN by Pearl Jam. This album was very important to my son in his teen years ironically it was very important to me. The song Jeremy is another.
@ I saw them live once, back in 2006, I think lol, and they played for over 4 hours. After about the 5th encore, it was just Eddie and Stone left on stage. Stone unplugged his guitar, waved to the crowd, while Eddie was sitting cross-legged at the front of the stage. Eddie then said “Well, I can sing for you guys all night, if you want me too.” Such a great band.
Terrific performance. Impactful song. Luvvit 😊❤ First saw them interviewed and some clips following the live 3-D Stones broadcast in 1990 when I was working the graveyard shift at the multilingual TV station in Toronto. Always loved 'Evenflow' since, lots more great material. Frank Wilson and the Cavaliers in '64, in the songbook. An Illinois boy by birth whose family moved to San Diego when he was around 10. Got a guitar at 12. Interesting story...😅 ✌🏼😊🎶❤️🍁❤️✨️🕊
Oh wow, Eddie Vedder is just simply amazing. Is voice is so unique and one of the most recognizable ones in music. His and Chris Cornell had voices that just were one of a kind in their own rights. I absolutely love it and glad you are getting to react to it. I love how emotive he is. It’s like he goes into his own world when performing, but he always came across as though the audience was just part of a jam session and everyone was just having an amazing hang out and just jamming. (I know that repetitive but it’s so true). And don’t worry about it being an older song or that it’s been some time and others know him well…..at least you are finding it now and that’s all it matters!😊
Great reaction brother. New subscriber here. This song was actually written for Eddie's ex and every time he performs/performed it he almost always does or did it last because it is truly an emotional drain for him. I have seen him perform with Pearl Jam and solo over 20 times and this was by far my favorite show. When you are sober you are ON the wagon. I too am sober. September 25th I celebrated 7 years of sobriety. And while you are pretty spot on about sitting down with a glass, for me that would lead to some ugly times. Life for me is so much better now without the drink! Keep up the great work! I look forward to diving into more of your videos.
Thanks so much for subscribing and sharing some info on the song. Awesome you saw him live so many times. Congratulations on your 7 years! One glass would definitely lead to some bad times for me as well. I tried many times to stick to one, but we both know how that turns out. Take care!
I’m a 68! Barely! Born December 23, 68. Wild year to be born. Lots of civil unrest and deaths like MLK and Robert Kennedy (I believe). My parents were 18 and 20 when I was born. Still so young and they loved music and dancing. My dad taught me classic rock. My mom brought me Motown. Every good memory of my childhood/teens has music attached to them. This music is the only thing that gets me through sometimes because they take me back to a time when I was innocent and free of worry. I’d go back in a heartbeat if it was possible.
That's the way I feel every time I hear their tunes!! I have to recover!! LOL...I love Pearl Jam! I've been a fan from the beginning and saw them live in concert on their first tour out. I love Eddie Vedder and the entire band! I had all of their cassettes and then cd's and I absolutely love them longtime!! Thanks Saeed!! If you are sober, you are off the wagon!! LOL.. I'm 37 years drug free, addiction free...it's a great feeling to listen to these songs sober and get so much more from them then I ever would have on drugs or being high. This song was very helpful for me in my recovery!!
I agree. Song origin story… EV was standing in the background as Chris was trying to sing a part of the song. Eddie could hear him struggling and had an idea. Ed bravely walked up to the mic (still shy and new to Seattle) and instinctively started singing and the rest is history!
You asked so: Pearl Jam "BETTER MAN" live at Madison Square Garden 2011 is a must on a Pearl Jam journey. It was released in 1994 on their "VS" album, but the live performance in 2011 at MSG drives the message home!! There's an inspiration behind the song (about Eddie Vedder's mom's struggles😉). It's a timeless and universal struggle (male and female). Check it out. Buckle up... Pearl Jam is as real as it gets. Great reaction! Love getting to watch your journey. Peace and light to all...💞
I remember my girl Shannen Doherty (RIP) being infamously obsessed with Eddie Vedder back in the day and i could never blame her for it lol, the man was beautiful, and so talented. There's A LOT of passion in this performance, like the lyrics were still burning inside his soul. We were spoiled in the 90's by MTV showcasing great artists like this, it's always fun to revisit through fresh eyes like yours.
Well, if you’re beginning to go down the Pearl Jam rabbit hole, I’m in. Subscribed. Love Pearl Jam. Adore Eddie Vedder. Let’s go! Many people will recommend their earliest songs, but they have gems all through their career. Even their latest album, Dark Matter, is fantastic. I would recommend maybe “Release” from Wrigley Field in 2016 as a later performance. Eddie’s voice has aged like fine wine.
Raw, powerful, emotional. You say you are missing out, I say you're discovering and keeping great music relevant. 👊🏾 Hence, why I sub just about every reaction channel. The music we experienced isn't popular, and music has changed, not to mention our artists are aging and journeying on, not creating anymore. So "classic" it is. ✌🏽
FINALLY!! You found them! It’s time to feel feelings. This band has gotten me through everything. My favourite songs include “Hail, Hail”, “Corduroy”, of course “Just Breathe” but all songs are amazing.
🍁🍁🍁🍁 .... this is one of those moments where us subscribers say , "how have you never heard Pearl Jam ????" Though , I believe you Saeed for your spare time was spent reading books. My feeling on this one is that it was worth you starting your channel just to hear this version , of this song , on this day. Eddie Vedder is Rock N Roll royalty and he absolutely should be. He pours his souls into the songs. Great live band for sure ! Happy you found this one. 🎶🎶🔥🎶🎶🔥🎶🎶🔥🎶🎶
This is an absolutely legendary performance. If you want to truly appreciate the tone and emotion in his voice, listen to “Yellow Ledbetter”. The lyrics are nearly incomprehensible, but the feeling you get from the sound is unmatched.
Pearl Jam and Eddie till today is my favorite band along with counting crows, Adam Duritz and Eddie Vedder more than sing they express EMOTIONS in every line they write and sing. It's a journey of light and shadow, they give us that embrace that we need on sharing that they feel the same that we feel and they survived. It's almost as coming home while we listen to them.
They were so good live!! Lucky enough to see them live twice in 91 & 92 unforgettable. Man I am so lucky to have been free and in my 20's in the 90's so many great band and concerts I wish I could go back
Thanks again for another great reaction! Pearl Jam always remind me of the 90ties, when I was a student going through the ups and downs of life. I always loved (still do) their Song "Alive" because it described the way I sometimes felt. 😉Do you want to go a little further on your musical journey? Meet Duman, the Turkish Pearl Jam! Try "Olmadı Yar" live at Bostancı Merkesi (Istanbul) in 2003, a kind of desperate break up song. What a great performance!!!
Bit of trivia. For this performance, Eddie Veder was very sick with a flu or upper respiratory infection and was not a hundred percent with his vocals but he still sounded so outta this world that most people are in tears by the end! He didn’t just sing/perform the song. He was pouring his broken hearts pain and emotion out with his voice and you can see the pain on his face. There’s a reason why Pearl Jam is the last, all original band members still alive and playing, of the original grunge supergroups. They are super talented and all of the songs Eddie songs have lyrics that mean something to him..usually something that’s hurt or moved him in some way and he brings that authenticity to every show. Even today when he and the guys are all mid fifties/close to 60. They say you either love Eddies voice or hate it but one thing for sure is his voice is definitely one of a kind and his vocal range is out of this world. This particular live performance is so much watched because most intimate sit down live performances are stripped bare and quieter and lots of bands, especially rock bands, have a hard time pulling off a good sound without the loudness and high energy of singing in an arena but P Jam and Eddie did it without a hitch and Eddie was really too ill to be on stage. Still sound awesome.
The members of Pearl Jam were actually prior members of Mother Love Bone. CLOE Dancer Crown of thorns live version with Eddie and Andy Wood is amazing.
Ahh, whudda reaction!! Don't, worry 'bout any over reacting with this one; I think this performance elicited that very reaction from a whole lot of us. Wow! 👊
There is a 90's movie with a fantastic soundtrack called "Singles" with an all-star cast and some cameo appearances by Chris Cornell and Eddie Vedder lol. It's a cute movie with lots of great 90s music.
Eddie Vedder performed on David Letterman’s final episode! He’s saying his amazing song “better man”. One of my favorite songs in this tribute was so moving! Give it a look.
such a fun reaction. love seeing a writer react cause the lyrics are like sheer poetry. Its shocking you never heard the before not sure how old you are, but thinking you were around in the 90s ,was cool thou seeing a pure reaction;)

And don’t worry about it being an older song or that it’s been some time and others know him well…..at least you are finding it now and that’s all it matters!😊
PMSL ‘Holy Sheet’. 😂😂😂
Welcome to the world of Pearl Jam. I am gearing up to see the boys live in Oz 3 times this November 😁😁😁
Bring a tear to a glass eye
Take care!
Billy Summer - GOLD!
I need to peruse your library 🤩.
Great reaction, this performance is gut-wrenching!
Being born in 68 is the best. All the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s music was right in my wheelhouse and I wouldn't have it any other way.
Check out "porch" from the same album, but not an acoustic version.
@kerrijohnson2303 I hear you. It helps. Where ya from?
@@rickwelch8464 Born and raised in North Louisiana. Outside Shreveport. You?
@kerrijohnson2303 Albuquerque , NM. I've driven through your town a few times.
Great reaction! You are on the wagon if you don't drink and fall off the wagon if you do! Stay on for the ride! ❤❤
I've always said that Pearl Jam is one of the greatest BLUES bands of all time!
What a song and performance. Truly amazing.
And 37 years is amazing as well. I truly draw strength from that. ❤️
Eddie is amazing. The whole Ten album is fantastic. You should also check out his collaboration with Chris Cornell "Hunger Strike"
Will check it out!
@SaeedReacts. 🙂 their band was called "Temple of the Dog"
Peace and light to all...💞
My favorite song of all time
I remember my girl Shannen Doherty (RIP) being infamously obsessed with Eddie Vedder back in the day and i could never blame her for it lol, the man was beautiful, and so talented. There's A LOT of passion in this performance, like the lyrics were still burning inside his soul. We were spoiled in the 90's by MTV showcasing great artists like this, it's always fun to revisit through fresh eyes like yours.
Really Great song and performance. Their whole debut Album Ten is great. I would recommend the songs Garden and Yellow Ledbetter
Hence, why I sub just about every reaction channel.
The music we experienced isn't popular, and music has changed, not to mention our artists are aging and journeying on, not creating anymore.
So "classic" it is. ✌🏽
What a performance!
Grateful i get to discover all these classics.
Thanks so much for being here!
This whole album is emotive and powerful. Eddy makes you believe every word. Will always remind me of driving through the wilds of Donegal.
Great reaction. You should react to the entire unplugged. I think it’s one of the greatest sets in rock history.
Awesome choice
Welcome to club!
The band is still making music, just saw them this summmer!
Truly a great band
Been enjoying the songs i have reacted to so far. Some video's are blocked, hopefully that gets resolved.
What a great
performance!!!
Thanks for watching and the recommendation. Definitely want to explore more of their music. I reacted to Jeremy, but the video was blocked.
A perfect song and one of the best live performances ever. Enjoy. 😎
Been a fan of Pearl Jam since the early 90s. Eddies solo album where he plays the ukulele is awesome too.
Great reaction! ❤
Thank you!
The members of Pearl Jam were actually prior members of Mother Love Bone. CLOE Dancer Crown of thorns live version with Eddie and Andy Wood is amazing.
You should check out his cover of the song “Masters of War”. It’s an amazing moment where Eddie Vedder’s vocals merge with Bob Dylan’s lyrical genius.
Fantastic performance.
Greatest rock ballad of all times, it’s just wow and always be 😢
Love Eddie Vedder! His solo album, just him and a ukulele , Can't keep is very much worth listening to!
Thanks for the recommendation. Definitely want to check out more of his music.
Great Reaction! Love the channel 😁❤️
There is heartbreak and then there is decimated.
Eddie Vedder performed on David Letterman’s final episode! He’s saying his amazing song “better man”. One of my favorite songs in this tribute was so moving! Give it a look.
JEREMY - SO SAD, BASED ON A RESL EVENT
Great stuff. You should check out Eddie Veddar's live cover of Dylan's "Masters of War" at the Dylan tribute concert.
Awesome cover! Will add that one to my list, but still need to check out the original first. Thanks for watching.
@SaeedReacts. Chilling lyrics.
YES!!!!!
such a fun reaction. love seeing a writer react cause the lyrics are like sheer poetry. Its shocking you never heard the before not sure how old you are, but thinking you were around in the 90s ,was cool thou seeing a pure reaction;)
☮️💙💙💙🔥🔥emotion overload
You’re not over reacting but you have some music to react to with Pearl Jam. Great reaction to a beautiful performance. 😊
Amazing song and performance
