It’s absolutely stunning Matt! The one thing I’ve noticed is both rear exhausts look to be hanging too low ? I think they should be more snug up to the rear bumper apron
Had one of those in blue with the wider Detroit wheels. Lovely car. Had the cream interior with the grey-ish wood. A little less pipe/slippers than yours in my spec, which it needed to be really, I was in my early 30s when I had it. Wound up that supercharger whenever I could. Yours is lovely though, but even though it's 20 years later for me, I still look at that interior and think 'old'. Give it another 10 years!

Hi Matt, Thanks for the great video, I was looking forward to it. I've been driving a 2003 XK8 convertible for the sunny days of the year for five years and enjoy every mile of it. I'm surprised at the prices mentioned in the video. In 2019 the car should cost 23,000 euros in Germany. It had a mileage of 83,000 US miles. Last year I had an appraisal done by an independent expert. The XK8 currently has a replacement value of 27,200 EUR, although it shows more signs of wear than the one you drove.
I had this edition. A beautiful black XKR with all the extras..it seemed like a Bond car and in my opinion the most beautiful modern Jaguar. Both adults and kids turned their heads when it went by, the later one didn't do that. I sold it mostly because I didn't fit, even on the lowest setting my head touched the roof, beware if you're around 6,2 or 187cm . Why did they make it with such a low roof for the driver? Pity.
Presumably aimed at short arses 😂, which is strange, because Lyons himself was tall apparently? I'm 6'4 and I own one, bit snug, like sliding into a shoe 😂. The other models (XJS, XJ40, XJ (x300/308) etc) were all the same. I'm glad its an auto anyway, I'd never change gear otherwise.
Just glad you’re moving it on you’ll settle for something far better just keep trusting your instincts and gut feeling it’s got you to where you are now after all.
Its had quite a bit before according to the M.O.T. history . I'm surprised Matt bought it unless he didn't do a check first . Pristine to me does not just mean the outside of a car . I also wonder how much work that's had in the past too .
Handsome car that one. Not that the lavalier microphone should pick up cabin noise, but you can definitely hear there are no creaks, squeaks, harsh engine noises etc… genuinely been the owner’s pride and joy 👍🏻
Another great video Matt! Love the channel, just curious why you didn't end up changing the plates for the old font? On a Y it could've come with the new font from the start in fairness, but I agree the wide font does add a touch of retro class.
I drove a succession of v8's and finally the diesel version of the XJ for 30 years. Never let me down for almost a million miles. They left an impression that is very special for a petrol head. Feel so lucky to have enjoyed the experience.

I got one of these last year - XKR convertible. Gibraltar plates but RHD so an ex UK car. It was literally a barn-find - it was stored in a barn near Jimena de la Frontera. The guy just wanted it moved so we agreed to take it for nothing. Gave him a nice bottle of wine. 300 euros grua back to La Linea and we've had it ever since. Recently bought an XK8 shell with nice interior so we're going to swap that out and then ...... probably leave it sitting where it is for another 2 years or more!!! Thats the world of projects ....
I own a very late model X100 XKR and I understand what Matt means. The car looks absolutely stunning, no question. But it falls between two (or three) stools as we say. It is very quick in a straight line, and handles high speed bends well, especially on sports suspension. But the steering, autobox and sheer weight mean it is not a country lane hustler. It is very comfortable for a long run, but so are lots of modern cars that have better equipment such as Apple Carplay. Plus modern cars spoil us for fuel consumption. But it sounds amazing - especially with a decent exhaust such as an Adamesh! And did I say it looks gorgeous?
I was born too late to appreciate these, nothing about them makes me want to own one. Have you rectified the ill fitting exhaust backbox since filming the video?
Exactly. Welding that's needed for an MOT is not a car that's been cosseted but more one where the owner knew when to bail out. Not least, if it wasn't an advisory on the previous MOT it must be rampant and if it was an advisory it'll have been issued with the classic line "I'd get rid before next year, mate".
That's a lovely example of the first generation XKR and a credit to its one previous owner! Agree with you about the colour combo looks great - I notice you don't make any "Werthers" quips about Jaguar's these days?🙂 The original XK & XKR had the underpinnings of the old XJS that date back to the 70's so I think it is now very much a modern classic whereas the series 2 could still be a daily driver and I think I prefer the looks (slightly) of the later model. Still a very nice car for someone.
I want one so bad, and an old Range Rover Sport , and an old Range Rover Vogue, and an XJ6, and an XJS. Sadly I'm retired and skint. I love the shape of the XKR and this one is in incredible condition outside and in. I hope you sell it to your friend to add to his collection - I'm sure they'll treat it with the care it deserves!
I miss my XJS as it had the bullet proof 4.0 litre engine and lovely comfortable suspension. I thought about the XKR and XK8 but the amount up for sale with issues was a worry plus you have the Ford buttons. The leather on that car does look lovely though, it's aged really well.
We rented a new X308 from Hertz in LA back in 1998 as my father was thinking of buying one. We didn't really like it and to our surprise, didn't think it felt very 'special' despite it being a LWB with every extra. It was very floaty on the highway.. and that's compared to the Lincoln Towncars my Dad usually had...! Still, I like Jags and I'd like to have an X100 someday - Geoff Lawson was underrated.
Grace, Space and Pace, as the old Jag advert said, I would have kept it in a heartbeat but as you say if it does not make you fizz, no point. What a gorgeous car though, looks like its just driven out of the factory, good job Matt another great video.
Hi Matt, Shame about the Jag not floating your boat. Could you let us know the end results of your video cars, maybe a short aftermath video, does not have to include final deal price if your not happy with that aspect.
It does look very good, BRG and beige. Never had a Jag, just never trusted one but does look like a nice GT - gentleman's tourer that is. Would have expected a blast down the dual carriageway to see if it tingled your toes.
Think you will regret, not keeping this one, it's a lovely machine. Proper Jaguar. Great video, just wish i had the brass to purchase and run her. Not be long before cars like these become museum pieces or worse scrapped !
These are gorgious cars, along with its sister car the Aston DB7 with which I am sure it shares a chassis. Back in the day I am surprised these did not sell a lot more as they were quite unique. I heard they had a problem with sulphur in the fuel back then damaging the nikasil bore liner coating and causing issues.
Been in the motor trade business for 3 years then stopped and started a successful car insurance brokerage business. But after watching this video, I will get back into buying and selling as well. It is great fun and enjoyable. Amazing content 💪

It looks like a gorgeous example Matt. I've just bought a Jaguar XFS. Perhaps Drive tribe's XKR is more your speed. It's a manual conversion, uprated on power and for sale. I know I will have an XK8/XKR as a classic at some point

Brilliant video as always Mathew. I myself had a 2001 XKR new and it was a lovely car, but very much like yourself it never ever gave me the fizz! So I kept it for 2 years then part exchanged it for a new BMW M5, and I'm happy to report that the M5 definitely gave me the fizz!!!! Cheers Mathew. Regards, John 😁
I'm thinking of trading my 2016 XF-S 3.0 D for an XKR - somwhere around the 2014 year. I haven't driven one yet but I've heard they really shift. May I ask why you didn't get the 'fizz' ? I love my XF but I don't do long journeys any more.
My dad's friend had a green XKR convertible with that same beige interior. There's only like two or three XKR convertibles in the country I live in, so it was a pretty rare thing.
Matt, just let my 1996 xk8 ( Sherwood. Green / Beige leather) go…beautiful car, but it was time. The unseen rot internal of both sill is always a factor, however it still broke my heart to see it go.
I remember the first time I drove and XKR. It felt like it was tailor made for me - it just fit. I can't explain it but I've never felt a connection like it with a car since. I wasn't that impressed with the later model as it felt more BMW than Jag. I may spoil myself when I retire.
Shame. I had one and loved it. Manually select the gears on the J shift and it revs lovely and can even upgrade the exhaust and suspension as it is quite soft even on the XKR but is such a lovely ride as a GT

As a Jag enthusiast and an Italian, I feel envious of the ease of finding mechanics and spare parts that guarantee being able to follow these cars while keeping them efficient. Unfortunately in my country this is increasingly rare! Last year I had to have the gearbox electronic board changed (yes it's a Mercedes for the entire X100 series). Compliments!

Exactly what was the welding that was needed - you didn't specify ?
My mate just grabbed a 2005, Mint Pearl BRG Jaguar XK8 4.2 Special Edition, one owner, 64k miles, full Jaguar service history. for £4k, it's stunning.
Bargain
@@HighPeakAutos unless it's rotten as a pear underneath which a lot are. At least he'll have some money left over for the repairs.....
What about the xjs? Does that give more butterflies. I hear they have something special
I had a 2004 XKR here in Dubai.
I bought it off a UAE Prince.
Loved that car.
@@MilIion5 Actually a fact as I was working for the UAE Royal family.
Ill drop some pictures on my channel.
Been in the motor trade business for 3 years then stopped and started a successful car insurance brokerage business. But after watching this video, I will get back into buying and selling as well. It is great fun and enjoyable. Amazing content 💪
a little bit of welding !! throw that in like you changed an air filter. beautiful looking car regardless
If I could get in and out consistently I would buy one, this was mint and then benefits from MattPrep.
Thanks for this - a great start to my birthday. Off to Cheltenham for the day next in my 2014 xk dynamic r convertible - shame the weather is as per your video! If I had 2 garages I'd have paid you a visit - that coupe looks gorgeous!
I saw a 1999 Jaguar XK that was ULEZ compliant. Amazing that I was just in the market for a car like this and this video pops up! I need the ULEZ compliant spec unfortunately
Put the reg Y64 UAJ into ULEZ - it's compliant!
Surely they will all be ulez compliant ?
@@DaleSteel most cars older than 2004 are not Euro 4 compliant and therefore not Ulez compliant. Something from the 90s being ulez compliant is really unique
It looks like a gorgeous example Matt. I've just bought a Jaguar XFS. Perhaps Drive tribe's XKR is more your speed. It's a manual conversion, uprated on power and for sale.
I know I will have an XK8/XKR as a classic at some point
Exhausts look wrong. Think they stick out too far, and don’t seem wide enough to line up with the bumper cut-outs.
Love a great Jag video.Looks like it just came out of the showroom.
has it had the rust repaired in the footwells -- they all rust from the plates weilded on to the foor on the outside when made and trap water . Bet the engine mounts need changing .
She’s a beautiful example…I absolutely adored these cars back in the day.
I worked in a nightclub when I was 19-20 years old and my boss had a convertible one it sounded amazing.
No need to apologize for having knowledge about all the "geeky" stuff around cars. Those tidbits are actually quite interesting.
One of my dream cars. Almost impossible to find one in this condition for a reasonable price here in Germany.
That is a very sweet car, beautiful condition. Greets from Austria.
Shame. I had one and loved it. Manually select the gears on the J shift and it revs lovely and can even upgrade the exhaust and suspension as it is quite soft even on the XKR but is such a lovely ride as a GT
Tameside Valeting
Tameside Tranmissions
Prestige Wheels

All of the above are on my doorstep. As for Retro plates, they don’t provide period plates but Denton Auto Care do which is another business on my doorstep.
Retro plates do
Nice car, I like very much those XKR especially the cab version. You have good taste in cars.
Its an Aston at Jaguar prices , with spares and servicing at J-aaa-g cost .
What a star.
I own an XKR100 supposedly a 'limited edition'. I know exactly what you mean about how empty it makes you feel. It just doesn't do it for me and it's such a shame as it's a lovely looking car.
Love your attitude and approach. Shame it was disappointing on the drive home but I get you!
From 2002, 6 speed ZF boxes.
That's a collectors item what lovely jaguar xkr never seen one in that condition? Fantastic work matt
Hi Matt, Well I guess it happens in life, one day you get in a car and it gives you all the right sensations and later on years down the line, you don't feel it anymore. We can say that you've moved on and it's quite normal really.
