There was more power in reserve but I was too chicken. Sold it a month shy of the warranty expiration. The water pump had failed at 25,000 miles and was (obviously) covered under warranty, but the dealer told me if it had been an out-of-pocket repair it would have run me around $3000. As much as I love the XK, I would never own one without a warranty. Good luck, Hoovie!

I had a 2004 XKR Coupe, blk, just like this one. An amazing car, never had a stitch of a problem with it. Unfortunately, it was stolen a few years a go. I am looking at the F-type R (nice and loud!) I have owned 4 jags, never had big issues with any of them. You just have to take care of them.
I’ve had a black on black 2002 XJR for 4 years now and I have the same engine and intake, also deleted the 4 mufflers. The sound of the supercharger whine with the deep exhaust is dangerously intoxicating and makes for a pretty intimidating kitty. I love it so much, but would also love an XKR coupe someday, maybe with a manual swap… these cars are so slept on. Richard Hammond and Drivetribe have some Jag videos, nice to see them getting more love these recent days
That Jag XKR is beautiful what a bargain! I miss my black Jaguar X type 2.5 AWD which we bought in France, while my wife misses her Renault Fuego I bought for her back in the nineties in Australia, "rare as hen's teeth there" much the same thing here!
I've been waiting for you to buy an XKR for a long time! I owned a second generation XKR, a 2007 convertible, for a little over 2 years. Such amazing cars. Beautiful and fast. The second generation was a lot sportier driving, but I do still have a soft spot for the first generations like this one.
Im obsessed with these cars - im very lucky to have a 95 XJS and 97 XJ6. I very recently bought a 2016 XF as my daily to replace my 250k mile Honda Accord. If you do preventative maintenance and make sure the quirks are sorted, they really are fantastic cars!
Randomly found a bunch of your old XJR stuff on the jag forums this week. Taking it on the beach was certainly a choice! Currently have an X308 XJR, always loved the 'verts but couldn't commit to it as my daily. Voting strongly for you and the Wizard to pick up some XJRs so that people remember just how excellent Jag was in the early aughts!
Hoovie, I just replaced the tires on my 99 Suburban and those Generals lasted 116,000 miles. I got the EV version with the thicker sidewalls, and the easy roll pattern. So I'm getting 10 more mpgs. Stops great, and holds the turns just fine. Would recommend.❤

Mom had an XK8 which is the same body style with a v8 minus the supercharger. Had to drive it cross country and it was a fantastic grand touring car. Smooth, fun to drive and the styling still holds up.
Now we are talking Hoovie. My 2005 STR looks better and better with age, and the 4.2 supercharged engine and drive train is basically bombproof. Leather and wood will never die.

@@starfox_wr-45e93 yes man. That was exactly the reason I bought it as soon as I could. It was and is still the dream car. Big V8 supercharged and stylish lines. Never going to see something like this new from any brand and at this price point either

I remember being jealous when a guy in a Fuego Turbo blew me away in my Volkswagen Scirocco in the 80s. Love the old Jags. Really good car to sell paintings out of the trunk in a parking lot.
I had an 82 Fuego. One of my favorite cars ever and I’ve owned AMGs, M3’s, Porsche’s and my first car a 68 Dodge R/T muscle-car. My Fuego was normally aspirated but still pulled strong for a four cylinder. Extremely comfortable ride and comfortable seats and great handling although with substantial body lean. Some idiot T-boned me running a red light and I let the insurance company total it though eventually I regretted this decision. At that point I moved into an 89 Civic Si which was a lot of fun to drive but less refined from a comfort and feature standpoint. Loved that giant retractable sunroof on my Fuego.
I've had a 2002 XKR for just a year now and am lovin the experience. Nothing gone wrong so far 'cept for the abs / traction warning light which proved to be a battery voltage thing. A massive car in every sense for very little money that will not depreciate. What is not to like???
Please do not "movie car" up that XKR, that car is in unbelievable shape. It would be so much worse than the mild amount of "boy racer" going on already. If it was a roached one sure, but not this one. Interested to see what those Jaguar center caps look like on those wheels
Damn you got yourself a nice one there. And is that a Renault Fuego at the Wizard's? O yeah, nothing wrong with those wheels. Ah, the Fuego got some love. Deserved.
I put 120k miles on an 05 XK8 convertible (got it up to 162k overall). Great car that never gave me too much trouble. I upgraded to a 2014 XK 6 years ago, which I'm still driving. Weirdest issue I had with the XK8 was internal corrosion on the battery leads made starting it spotty until they were replaced. It was a tough issue to crack since visually they looked fine. It also had an airbag light on basically the entire time I owned it that no one could get to the bottom of. I just treated it like James May said in the Grand Tour Jag episode: it was on to let me know it was working.
That J gate being setup for RHD and not mirrored for LHD makes me smile. So much in our UK spec cars is left for LHD out of penny pinching so it’s nice to see. So many of these still around in the UK but they are starting to thin out now.
My daily right now is an XF 3.0 SC AWD and it's a marvelous driving car Purchased for 10K as a 40k mile 1 owner and I've spent approx 2k on getting caught up on scheduled service
"It's a Jaaaaggg... " just like Jeremy, closely followed by loose clamps underneath... 😆 I love the turbine-like whine of the supercharger! Just as they did with the turbocharged Trans Am back in 1981 or so, Buick spent time and money on the intake system to silence the whine of my Eaton M90 supercharger on the last generation 3800 Riviera... However, I would definitely put a new set of factory springs in that thing.
Had a 2006 XJ Super V8. Put 166,000 miles in 9 years. It was such an occasion every time I got behind the wheel. Drove so well and handled the corners far better than it ever had a right to. Still miss it
Jaguar needs a full do over, probably be better of if one of the big German brands bought it,better than Stellantis or GM. Or maybe they should sell of the Rnage Rover brand as its still reputable
Its kind of tatas little toy now. They will probably get it right in the end. Its the furst Indian owned premium car brand, they wont let that go. And despite the more than plentiful issues that hound the range rovers especially. People do still buy them. Electric is probably a good idea due to the problems mainly being the engines. Them turning into an appliance repair company in totalis is probably a very good idea from their perspective at this point. Or maybe not considering that track record on electronic security... Its kind of funny in a way, as where jaguar started its relationship with internal combustion engines was a bargain brand, a knock off of bentley. And it ended as a luxury ripoff one.
Tata Group is big enough to keep it as long as they want. They revived Land Rover, and they could do the same with Jaguar. I don't see any reason for them to sell any of it given the size of the Tata group.
I remember what happened when BMW bought Rover (RIP). The last thing Jag needs is to be owned by one of the German companies. They'd be best off back with Ford honestly.
I'll say it: The EV move is probably the best option they have. They have had such grief with mechanical reliability and engines that a switch to a whole new drive train is probably a very good idea. If (and it is a massive if) they get it right, Jaguar styling, comfort and refinement on an EV platform should be a pretty unique offering if (and another big if) they can rid out the next 3-5 years of rough EV market conditions.
Dangit, Hoovie, I just saved this a week ago to call the dealership about it 😭 I love it, exactly how it sits. This is my dream car, so cool to see you get it!
Anyone see that incredibly gay/woke jaguar commercial? They’re even getting rid of the cat symbol. These companies are completely out of touch and cannot read the room.
Love Jag, I have 3 XJ6s (86, 95,97), would love an e-type. When I mention being a car guy and say I have Jags, I feel judged. I also have a 260z and 89 XJ jeep as saving graces.
Have owned my black 2005 Jaguar XKR coupe since 2014. It is a sophisticated, drop dead gorgeous, blue-eyed brunette, in a strapless cocktail dress, pearl necklace, high heels, and an English accent. My 2008 C6 coupe in crystal red over cashmere is a barefooted, green-eyed, strawberry blonde from the American heartland, wearing cut-off jeans, a wet t-shirt, and legs that go all the way up. I am in love with them both of them.
The Jaguar XF I have now, has to be one of the best cars I've owned over the 30 plus years I've owned cars. Someone said to me the other day that it should be illegal to own such a nice-looking car!!!
I spontaneously bought a XF-S off the floor back in 2016 and was amazed at how good it was for the cost. I had zero problems and even got a good deal on selling it in 2018. I wish they didnt discontinue that supercharger as i would probably buy another one.
I have an XKR x150 Convertible and a XJR x356. Both have the same 4.2 block around 400hp, and they are just AMAZING. It must be the most reliable engine Jaguar produced in the last decades, sounds amazing and is a blast. They are my favorite cars right now after decades of having BMW ///M and Audi S cars.
Only a Kamla Harris voter would want to own a jag today. Parts and repairs on your first visit to have it fixed would be more than what you paid for the car. Funny.
I've had my 2000 XKR for 9 years. I was looking for a fast convertible and decided to take the leap on a Jag. I have been pleased with the reliability. Sure, the hydraulic top lines need be replaced every 20 years or so, as well as the rubber baffle between the supercharger and the engine, and the front upper bushings every 30,000 miles. But it is gorgeous and thanks to Ford ownership, Denso electronics, and the Mercedes transmission (XKR/XJR only) it is quite reliable. Hemmings in 2024 named the 00-06 XKR one of the top appreciating cars in value. Mine has doubled in value in the last 9 years. If you have a pre-2003 model (4.0 liter), it is vital that you have proof that the timing belt tensioners have been replaced from plastic to metal. I lucked out. The previous owner had the catastrophic failure and $13,700 later had a new factory remanufactured engine installed with the metal timing chain tensioners and metal water pump.
The all electric is killing them. They need to borrow from Lamborghini or Audi’s powertrain and design Sports cars/super cars for Real Jaguar Enthusiasts.
I think XKR is such an underappreciated car. They are amazing to look at and great at what they were built to be. They were never built as an autocross type of a car, but as a highway touring machine? It's great. I think Hoovie got a steal of a deal on this car! :)

I have an 08 I bought in 2022 for 14k, i’ve put around 30k miles since then, with close to 140k now, I drive it every single day through all kinds of traffic, 7 days a week, rough traffic, everything you can imagine, I drive it hard but change oil every 3k miles. it makes my trip to work enjoyable, NEVER had any engine issues, I did preventatively change drive belt, air and the coolant hoses around the EGR valve/throttle body. only thing that’s ever went wrong was some suspension bushings & once having to charge battery after it sat a few days. it will reward daily driving and I would never want to waste my life not using it or sitting in the garage as a weekend cruiser. life is too short for that.
@@h7pubg - yea, I don't really worry about it. I have two cars and don't work, so my yearly is like 5k miles, and I mostly use the SUV with the dog. So, the XK is for fun drives, or quick drives to the store, etc. Plus, I plan to get some more sports cars soon, so I simply am not going to be able to put miles on any particular one.
@@h7pubg - I drive it as much as I want. It just so happens, I don't drive that much, so it is there for me ready to go anytime. How many miles do you think Hoovie puts on any one of his cars? Nothing... because he has more cars than he needs. But he enjoys all of them.
Hoovie, what do you think of Doug DeMuro only wearing one T-shirt now and growing a beard to look like a 1980s camp councillor in a Friday 13th movie.

Very pretty car. I agree those wheels aren't bad at all, all things considered. Fixing the stance and exhaust pipes should make it lovely.
Love my 2012 XKR-S, one of those cars that depreciated so greatly and is so over looked that they are now one of the best bangs for buck.
At some point I think I’m going to grab one.
@@mogulme6190 prices are trending down on them, time and market are on your side, the only real downside may be if your dead set on a specific color/interior combo. Luckily my combo is somewhat common, FRB exterior, charcoal with blue stitching RS interior.

I have a 05 S-Type R and love it ! They are super fun cars . The supercharger on the XK,XJ and S type is so intoxicating
I’ve got an 05 and 03 love them
Yeah I have a S Type R as well and absolutely love it, it’s 2007 with 55000 miles on the clock and in concourse condition. Great power, great comfort and great looks..IMHO.👍🏼
That supercharger whine is incredible.

Mom had an XK8 which is the same body style with a v8 minus the supercharger. Had to drive it cross country and it was a fantastic grand touring car. Smooth, fun to drive and the styling still holds up.
Indeed. I'd go for the non-compressor.
I just love the wizard, he seems like such a genuinely good guy
Now we are talking Hoovie. My 2005 STR looks better and better with age, and the 4.2 supercharged engine and drive train is basically bombproof. Leather and wood will never die.
My father had a silver coupe with racing green stripe down the center, modified supercharger - total beast
I've got an 03 xkr coupe love it to bits but it really isn't cheap to keep running 😭 I'm glad that you appreciate these cool jags!
That's a dream car of mine. I remember when they were new, and I still feel the same then as I do now.

@@starfox_wr-45e93 yes man. That was exactly the reason I bought it as soon as I could. It was and is still the dream car. Big V8 supercharged and stylish lines. Never going to see something like this new from any brand and at this price point either

@@SuperchargedShift The transmission on them dies with the same symptoms as on regular Chevys? That's a lot of problems, you probably had high mileage and owned it for many years
I remember the Fuego when it was new. It's actually more attractive than I remember it being. Probably because the new cars now are all blob shaped.
I remember being jealous when a guy in a Fuego Turbo blew me away in my Volkswagen Scirocco in the 80s. Love the old Jags. Really good car to sell paintings out of the trunk in a parking lot.
I bought a 2003 Jaguar S-type R for $2100 Canadian and put $1600 into it al love it. 4.2l supercharged v8
That Renault Fuego from EuroAsianBob steals the show!! Love it
I had an 82 Fuego.
Thanks!
Fuego looks sporty but is not due to powerless engine. A proper upgrade responsible with its time of build would be a great upgrade.
@@theblackhand6485 The 1.6 Turbo was 136bhp. Which back then was 0-60 in 8.8 seconds if i remember. Quicker than most average cars in 1984 !.
Had Fuegos since 1987, very underrated, and almost extinct now.
I've had a 2002 XKR for just a year now and am lovin the experience. Nothing gone wrong so far 'cept for the abs / traction warning light which proved to be a battery voltage thing. A massive car in every sense for very little money that will not depreciate. What is not to like???
we have had a 2019 Jag SUV for 4 years, great vehicle. would buy another Jag .
Always loved the styling of the old school Jags. Also love the Hoovies Garage crest on the floor in your new garage! Nice touch!
Please do not "movie car" up that XKR, that car is in unbelievable shape. It would be so much worse than the mild amount of "boy racer" going on already. If it was a roached one sure, but not this one.
Interested to see what those Jaguar center caps look like on those wheels
thank you i have been watching this channel for a few years and really enjoy it.....

I love the turbine-like whine of the supercharger! Just as they did with the turbocharged Trans Am back in 1981 or so, Buick spent time and money on the intake system to silence the whine of my Eaton M90 supercharger on the last generation 3800 Riviera... However, I would definitely put a new set of factory springs in that thing.
I personally love the look and driving feel of the XJ
Had a 2006 XJ Super V8. Put 166,000 miles in 9 years. It was such an occasion every time I got behind the wheel. Drove so well and handled the corners far better than it ever had a right to. Still miss it
These things really do represent a great weekend garage car fr the more limited car enthusiast.

Yeah, that slam job is awful. Gorgeous car though, the X100 is my favorite Jag of all time.

Range Rover is a model, not a brand.
I remember what happened when BMW bought Rover (RIP). The last thing Jag needs is to be owned by one of the German companies.
They'd be best off back with Ford honestly.
What a sound! I'm glad for your channel, every car I dreamed of owning shows up here eventually.
Well, Jag has a new marketing campaign that will fix everything. 😂😂
A car company taking a year off? That’s rare. More companies should do that instead of releasing the same garbage 5 years in a row
It’s not looking good for them to recover with EV being the only product

Have owned my black 2005 Jaguar XKR coupe since 2014. It is a sophisticated, drop dead gorgeous, blue-eyed brunette, in a strapless cocktail dress, pearl necklace, high heels, and an English accent. My 2008 C6 coupe in crystal red over cashmere is a barefooted, green-eyed, strawberry blonde from the American heartland, wearing cut-off jeans, a wet t-shirt, and legs that go all the way up. I am in love with them both of them.
That "Cold" air intake is in fact a "hot" air intake.
The Jaguar XF I have now, has to be one of the best cars I've owned over the 30 plus years I've owned cars. Someone said to me the other day that it should be illegal to own such a nice-looking car!!!
Now you need a LS2 Holden Monaro (Pontiac GTO) to recreate the Top Gear drag race.
I spontaneously bought a XF-S off the floor back in 2016 and was amazed at how good it was for the cost. I had zero problems and even got a good deal on selling it in 2018. I wish they didnt discontinue that supercharger as i would probably buy another one.
4.2 with the blower is pretty solid. When they went to the 5.0 with the blower...disaster 😅😅😅
The previous owner had the catastrophic failure and $13,700 later had a new factory remanufactured engine installed with the metal timing chain tensioners and metal water pump.
gee, just say IT, jaguar is DONE, no one even really drives them.
Tata did good with Land Rover but not so much with jaguar I guess.
