I had to explain that the WBAC price was a buying price and the dealers price was a selling price, and that the dealer had to cover prep, repairs, warranty, profit etc. She still wasn't happy !
Very interesting to hear the real costs you incurred which I am sure surprised most of us especially the VAT and you didn’t mention overheads, cost of guarantee, loss of earnings on your capital for at least 6 months. Nice work young man, I enjoy your honesty and videos, you are giving car dealers like yourself a better name so to say. My morning views of your casting bring a smile to my face.
Some people are just a complete PIA & don't quite get the fact that if a business doesn't make a few quid then there's, errr no business to buy from...oh & you didn't even mention out of the small margin such things as pension contributions, travel expenses, staff pay etc. I for one find it very refreshing that you are so upfront & honest about the cars journey from auction to forecourt...we all have choice!
The MARKET dictates the value of used cars, he should look online for comparables if he’s unsure. £800-2k net margin on quality used cars like this is the goal to stay afloat for garages. Sometimes you’ll make more sometimes you’ll take a huge hit, these average out. No need to justify yourself but a useful illustration to the ill informed
Great video, very honest and most importantly fair; those costs rack up and time to do the mot etc...and selling it in the best possible condition...I'm sure you have loyal repeat customers form your videos. I've only ever bought one car from a dealer last one, and surprisingly it was a painless process from start-to-finish....good dealers definitely have their place
He's a typical pilot. It's hard to become one. It's expensive and the money isn't that great once you qualify. And to top it all when they tell people ( and they ALWAYS DO) that they are a pilot, no one gives a shit.
We all work for a living - & You're honest explanation, goes many ways into disparaging the preconceptions of 'Car Dealers' that we've come to believe is a 'shady' industry . . . . Thank You for your honesty & clarity. I learnt a couple of things there myself
Bad form for him to Welch on a deal like that (I’m Welsh!). If it helps Salvage Rebuilds UK always sit down and go through all the numbers for each car so people see the expense in turning these vehicles around. On face value seems you had a big margin but I was amazed when you went through your spend how little was left. Great work and great open and honest vids as always.
You are SO diplomatic. Well done, you are the very acceptable, honest face of car dealers. As you said a while ago “ no good deed goes unpunished “ . Carry on the good work.
Jeez Louise, customer is an utter tool. He probably would have wanted a full tank of fuel too! Good luck with your business. You are extremely transparent. 👏
Your profit is no one elses concern, if you make 6k then so be it, the item should be the main concern, if it ticks all the boxes and is priced fairly across the the board then its a winner.
Having managed a business you have my sympathy and going on experience you've dodged a bullet with that 'dreamer'. I think you've done yourself a great service by sharing this information and I say this as accountant
I'm impressed you remain calm and respectfull on your videos when describing some of the crap you have to deal with. The fact your colleague got a lecture from the buyers friend makes me think it was his friend who put the seed in the buyers mind about the price - maybe his friend was jealous of him buying the car? either way its an appalling, and spineless way to go about pulling out of a deal. lovely car now though - at worst its a break even deal,, could have been worse. Thanks for sharing
I love the integrity of this company. If I lived nearer to you I'd buy a car from you as honesty is a rare thing these days. I need a car right now with 4 wheel drive but alas I live in NI!!! Love your videos...
As soon as Mr. BigBoy Pilot said " Ok I'll come and have a look at it again " the red flags were there that he was either going to pull out of the sale or be a complete d***. After you done all those requests for him, he should have been excited to come down and collect. His missus probably told him he wasn't allowed to buy it. Don't change how you create video's because of Maverick. You're a business and a business needs to make profit.
Love your honesty and explanation of your costs, think your definitely helping your business with your openness. The guy backed out of a contract to buy the vehicle and was lucky to get his deposit back and missed an honest car which will sell soon I am sure😊
Should have held deposit after prepping it for him.We have all been there,as soon as you hear they are coming for another look after all the prep!! He has been ripped out by his mates and cant deal with the piss taking,so easy way out is to walk away from the deal.
One of the biggest problems here is that the general public dont understand the unfairness of margin VAT. Its a killer especially if the dealer has alot of work to do on the car
Unfortunately the customer had zero knowledge of how a used car sales company works & would not listen to reason. I think you have swerved a curve ball not selling to Mr Top Gun as i am sure he would have rinsed the warranty for all its worth. I believe that through your videos & disclosing your prices, you are as transparent as can be & is testament to being a all round decent, respected business. Keep up the good work Joe.
you're best off not selling to that sort of time wasting purchaser....I think you have been very open and honest and if I lived in the UK I would buy the car from you tomorrow !
You were right to give him his money back, customers like that you don't want, he will be like a bad penny and keep coming back with every little moan.
Great video and good to see breakdown. I think you’ve been super conservative with costs. You still need to account for general overheads - eg Rent, insurance, office costs, accounting, theses are just a few of the others costs customers sometimes forget. You’re right - you got off cheap - nobody needs customers like that!
A pilot used to be a respected high profile job about 40 years ago , and he probably would have been buying a new jag back in the day, not a sixteen year old one. But these days budget airlines have made the job like glorified bus drivers so I think we should all feel sorry for the poor chaps ego.
I dont feel sorry at all for him, total timewaster, i have an identical car to this one , same year and spec and i paid hard cash for it and i work in the garage at my local authority council, it does'nt matter what profession your in, this guy was just a muppet, Joe deserves so much better.
Don’t forget budget airlines exist now because everyone thinks they should be able to fly wherever they want. People now think everything should be cheap/free and not work for it. The ex-buyer was a knob most likely. But not because he was a pilot. Although there are plenty of knobs that are pilots.
I’d like to join the chorus of support you’ve received over this issue. What you paid for the car isn’t his concern - it’s the value it offers, when compared to similar offerings in the market. I’d endorse the ‘dodged a bullet’ sentiment. Sounds like a pillock to me. Leopards and all that - he’d have been on the phone every week interminably. Keep on with your progress, adhere to your principles. HNY.
The price you had the car before were very fair bearing in mind the pre etc, as for the said previous buyer would have been back when a tyre deflated or could not work out how to you the electric mirrors and last call regarding the type of fuel it needs. I think you were open and honest and I hope you get a buyer who understands the cost of normal maintenance and repair costs. Good luck with your next sale.
Hi, you guys are always recommending sites to check a car's history. Well you buying it at auction, doing all the work, prepping and cleaning.......you essentially are part of the cars history to the buyer. The buyer should know what you've done, to then justify the forecourt price. Great vlog by the way....very transparent. All the best. Jonny 😎☯️🌱
I had a business years ago selling collectables, most of which came from fairs in England, which is an 800 mile round trip from here. One time I’m down in Birmingham buying at a fair and I bump into one of my customers, who is furious with me… “I bought this for £10, you’d have charged me £15!” “Have you bought anything else?” “Yes another two, so that’s £15 you would have ripped me off for” “Ok, so you’ve driven 400 miles, in a car that does 20mpg, paid £10 to get in…and you’ve saved £15?” “That’s not the point…” 😂😂😂
There's a huge difference between cost and worth. It might not have cost you £12,000 but that's what it's worth. If your parents leave you a £300,000 house in their will for nothing it doesn't mean you let it go for £50k. Fella sounds a proper blurt
You don’t need customers like that. You certainly sound appear to be a decent dealer, yes he should have been delighted. Your program is superb thank you.
People want a business to do all the hard work and take little/no profit from it not thinking how hard and all consuming running a business is! Go to auction and buy a car yourself if you want to take all the risk to possibly save yourself a few quid! (Though with the non-trade price you’d pay for parts and labour at a garage you’d be in for a lot more than £12000 on this car - OBVIOUSLY!) you can’t have your cake and eat it. Keep up the good work Joe & team 👍
Great video, thanks for the cost breakdown, and the VAT bit, and now I've been educated....the only thing you left out was the 'value' of your experience in not buying a bag of old nails...which is certainly worth a fair bit!!!

I think you'd be justified in using ''Re-advertised due to time-waster' / tyre kicker '
Price seems well fair to me! What with all your overheads as well! Keep up the great work and vid's .Don't be disheartened!
As a former dealer and current hobby car flipper… I endorse this video! 👌🏾💎😎 I feel your pain!
Your honesty will win through, your reputation will grow, and you will gain good customers, great video and explanation.
You owe me a box of tissues, because i literally could not stop crying when ADRIAN took his new rattle gun for a test drive 😂😂😂
😂
@@ShiftingMetalnever do any business with him what a deluded mard ass he is wow well someone is in for a great car 😁👍
That buyer was a thief & opportunist. You deserve to make any profit you like, you take all the risks.
He's a typical pilot. It's hard to become one. It's expensive and the money isn't that great once you qualify. And to top it all when they tell people ( and they ALWAYS DO) that they are a pilot, no one gives a shit.
@@johnmunro4952🤣 sure mate, if you say so! Mustn’t have met many then.
Only difference is salvage rebuilds is sold as seen with no comebacks where as Joe is on the hook for 6 months
Yes I forgot that, good point. 👍
You are SO diplomatic. Well done, you are the very acceptable, honest face of car dealers. As you said a while ago “ no good deed goes unpunished “ . Carry on the good work.
You have dodged a bullet there Joe, He would have lived with you, Sometimes the best deal is the one you don't do.
Lovely car and worth every penny. You win some you loose some. His loss your gain.
*lose, not "loose". 🤣
You are the most honest car dealer I've ever seen. Keep it up mate
Yep close shave. Poor Jason who had to deal with him. I agree also buyer's remorse.
Thanks for sharing
you were open & honest from the start so the bloke needs to take a flight
Good on ya, we all have to earn a living and thanks for being so honest. Too many shitty car dealers about it's nice to see a good one.
breath of fresh air to hear from you all the costs associated with car dealing. Makes me happier with the idea of buying from dealers :)
Absolute dreamer. Can tell he's a pilot, got his head in the clouds....
And his brain up his arse!😂
Unfortunately the customer had zero knowledge of how a used car sales company works & would not listen to reason. I think you have swerved a curve ball not selling to Mr Top Gun as i am sure he would have rinsed the warranty for all its worth. I believe that through your videos & disclosing your prices, you are as transparent as can be & is testament to being a all round decent, respected business. Keep up the good work Joe.
Hey Joe, I didn’t know Jaaags came with central heating. Did you service the boiler on it ? 😂
Hello mate. That jag looks amazing!
I would buy a car from you. I appreciate your transparency and honesty. It’s reassuring and refreshing.
Better that you are transparent and customers get to see what effort and the costs involved.
On that video alone....subscribed. Keep the great honest content coming, its refreshing.
Sounds like an Easy Jet pilot!
Na. Airfix pilot. ✈️
I was thinking more like Ryan Air😀
@davidhunt5945 £44k-£83k. Not sure where you got 200k from?
@@FanaticQuattro first officer wages mate👍
Credit to you for preparing such a beautiful car in a truly professional fashion. You deserve a decent profit.
Top man Joe, don't need customers like Biggles, nightmare!
I think this video has done more for you in terms of positive PR than any number of google reviews. Top work
Space Cadet not a Pilot
you're best off not selling to that sort of time wasting purchaser....I think you have been very open and honest and if I lived in the UK I would buy the car from you tomorrow !
Wonder if Fly Boy will dare to comment on this video?
i love watching your content as i live abroad and it keeps me sane
That customer would been a nightmare
Open and honest video. Buyer probably had no intention of purchasing the car in the first place, keep your videos coming, very interesting 👍
What's wrong with being a bus driver?
HNY.
You’ve been lucky so far, my dad used to say to me” the last arsehole ain’t been born yet son”👍🏻
Well done indeed, really helpful to let people know how the costs work out, especially the VAT margin scheme which people generally do not understand.
There are some right clowns out there......
Can’t imagine franchised dealers being so transparent or honest, yet somehow general public seem to trust them 🤷🏼♂️
Guy has shat it after agreeing deal. Usual cold feet. The customer is a clown
💯 😊
The price you had the car before were very fair bearing in mind the pre etc, as for the said previous buyer would have been back when a tyre deflated or could not work out how to you the electric mirrors and last call regarding the type of fuel it needs. I think you were open and honest and I hope you get a buyer who understands the cost of normal maintenance and repair costs. Good luck with your next sale.
His loss mate it will be a cracking car for someone
Bloke was obviously a tosser. You seem a very straight up kind of a guy and I find your videos very watchable. Bravo! New subscriber.
What You expect? Luxury on the cheap 😂 He can't afford..... better now than later he rejects car after 10 months
One time I’m down in Birmingham buying at a fair and I bump into one of my customers, who is furious with me…
“I bought this for £10, you’d have charged me £15!”
“Have you bought anything else?”
“Yes another two, so that’s £15 you would have ripped me off for”
“Ok, so you’ve driven 400 miles, in a car that does 20mpg, paid £10 to get in…and you’ve saved £15?”
“That’s not the point…”
😂😂😂
Very honest chap you are,you explained what general public don't see, hidden extra bills before sale...thanks for that.👍
Many people like that in the world I’m afraid 🤷♂️
The public really don’t know anything about running a business, they think all the money goes into your back pocket. No clue whatsoever.
god help, i would have kept his deposit and told him to go Forth and Multiply.. What a complete and utter stoker,,,,,
I would have told him to fk off and when he's fukd off to fk off a bit more😂
Great video! Honest and extremely fair! Keep up this great work!!
There's a huge difference between cost and worth. It might not have cost you £12,000 but that's what it's worth. If your parents leave you a £300,000 house in their will for nothing it doesn't mean you let it go for £50k. Fella sounds a proper blurt
Good luck on the sale, very well explained 👍
Anyone who doesn't despise the human race has never worked with the public.
