I despise the fact that British media is beset by this requirement to present both sides of every issue. This is about the massive, horrific scandal of the uncovering of unequivocal evidence of hideous medical abuse of children. There is no “other side”, least of all any which could be presented by a bloke called “Katy”.

Using drugs to cure psychological priblems is always a bad idea , especially for kids.
I subscribe to that view! Drugs have only one utility: for the highly creative, deeply invested in the zeitgeist, young males (rarely females), aged 21-29 and with a clear creative goal in mind- even then, it is always a gamble.
Drugs are not a cure for psychological problems but they are a tool that can help if used correctly.

The problem isn't that all children with body dysphoria have mental illness, the problem is that at this time we have no means to determine which children are trans and will develop into adults that transition and are long term happy with that decision and which of the body dysphobic kids have some kind of mental illness that's causing this (like for example girld with eating disorders often have a problem with their female body type)
There is no denying that there are trans adults. And of course these trans adults have already known as children that they are not what their bodies and societal expectations dictates. But with the current explosion of eating disorders, explosion of cosmetic surgery, explosion of dissatisfaction with ridiculously minor aberrations from exaggerated beauty standards it's very clear that most cases of body dysphoria are probably not caused by an underlying trans-identitiy.
There are plenty of people who transition and are long term happy with it. People who later de-transition because they realise they have made a mistake have obvioulsy never been trans to begin with. For that reason people should transition as adults and should even as adults not immediately rush into irreversible treatments and surgeries.
Self-awareness is in short supply these days.

The Tavistock Clinic caused me immense harm in a totally different field in 1963, by breaching my right to privacy and not disclosing what they'd found. They'd claim it was for my own good.

Too clever to relate to, and denied support because that meant IQ testing, formally forbidden me because I'd been added to the baseline group everyone's tested against. Somewhere the #EveryonesInvited abuse developed, after I was well clear. I'm a man of faith, and have no difficulty whatsoever sharing my prayer that Matthew 18:8 awaits them.

This is interesting and as I suspected. Gender reassignment has become fashionable, which is dangerous. As a retired doctor I can affirm that the NHS does not support whistleblowers, quite the opposite in fact. NHS clinicians work under a highly coercive and threatening Department of Health.
Some of this topic is simply selfishness, people wanting special attention or parents wanting special children.

Censorship has been endemic throughout academia also. In 2017, Bath Spa University rejected a research proposal into destransitioning (submitted by James Caspian), on the grounds that it was 'politically uncorrect' and 'might cause offence'. This is absolutely disgusting, and those responsible for suppressing research into potential harms of children and vulnerable people with gender dysmorphia need to be held to account. Universtities have clearly abadoned their commitment to pursuit of truth, and are driven by ideology. Instead of encouraging debate, they suppress free speech. Instead of promoting free enquiry, they only support research with foregone conclusions. They need to lose their charitable status.
I almost went to study at Bath Spa. Sounds like I dodged a bullet, wow.

I can foresee lots and lots of litigation coming. Dr Bell has been shut down until now. It's great that the Cass report has unleashed all the professional honest information about the damage this ideological treatment does to children. Experts are no longer afraid to tell the truth. However it's disgraceful how long this has taken.
I've always thought the same. I could just imagine the lawyers circling the perimeter like wolves licking their chops waiting for the lawsuits to start rolling in. There's going to be a lot of lawyers living in beachfront mansions when this is all over.
Katy makes the claim that someone taking opposite sex hormones will still go through puberty, ie complete their development into an adult across all their body systems. Katy doesn’t have any evidence for this claim. Where’s the papers that say females taking testosterone during puberty have sufficient testosterone receptors to complete adolescent development into adulthood? Likewise for males taking oestrogen. When you have activists on please do your job as journalists and point out when they start making claims about human development and how drugs impact bodies that the activist isn’t speaking as a scientific or medical expert. After all it’s how we got into this mess in the first place.

I'm sympathetic towards some parents. If you're a parent and you have medical professionals telling you that "Your kid is trans, they'll be at risk of depression, self harm and suicide if they don't transition - oh and we might call social services if you don't comply". How many parents are going to ignore that?

My experience of a court order for medical treatment is second hand but I remember how my son's eye doctor recounting how he had to seek a court order to treat a child for eye cancer. To get away from the court order the mum took her kid overseas. Retinoblastoma moves fast - the kid lost both his eyes when he could have had sight.

What I would like to know, is who in the medical and scientific communities pushed puberty blockers and even all this very questionable nonesense going on lately. This is why when they say 'follow the science' you 100% better question it first.
It is the same kind of people that made sure women got voting rights. You see, the whole women rights vote wasn't about the average woman's right to vote, it was because of those very rare instances of wealthy women that could have benefited from it in situations that the general view could have sympathized with them on the moral basis; also tied to the abuse of their inheritance by their husbands, which again only happened in rich circles. So because some tragic cases happened that depended on legal technicalities, amongst a very limited minority, the narative of the right for both genders to vote was established. It honestly didn't matter back in that time, since a lot of poor males couldn't vote either.
It is the same now: just because of a handful of tragic cases, they impose this tyranny of gender swapping the children and the fire of the public mania spreads in a witch hunt of tragic cases to be set straight. The problem, as always, is who are the ones doing the work? It is always a vast majority who hasn't quite grappled the concept and what it actually is to be solved here. As always was the case. Same with psychiatry and over diagnosing. Same with amputating organs mania of the last century, since taking a rotten tooth out stops the infection from spreading, right? Why not cut off as much of the body as we can then, out of good reason and prevention? (This is exactly what happened by the way, people would get even their intestines out just to be safe).

My nice had intense depression and suicide ideation from a young child. She was unable to attend high school and barely got a completion certificate. In her early 20’s she had top surgery and transition the depression lifted, he’s now finished his GED, getting his drivers license, moving forward in life. it’s just a shame his whole childhood was defined by pervasive emotional anguish and wishing herself dead. Last time we went out was the first time I’d ever heard them laugh (we played VRPsintball).
My employees daughter has major health problems and is on puberty blockers due to a serious illness. It’s not a pleasant experience being on blockers, nobody should be doing that lightly.
I fear your niece's happiness of joining the special club, may be short lived, I hope not for her sake.

The key finding of the Cass review is that we don't have any good evidence in either direction about the real consequences of medical or social intervention for kids who may be trans, so its pretty strange this guy's saying we have reasonable evidence. Thats what a liar would do.

There's a saying (from AA, I think) about God grant me the ability to change what I can change, accept what I cannot change, and the wisdom to know the difference.
I believe when it comes to adolescence, that is something children need to learn first and foremost. Also the one I learned in kindergarten "sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me." (I learned it as "names", not "words", but with the recent attacks on free speech, I think "words" is more accurate)

I hope, for the sake of Dr. Cass's own mental and emotional health, that her rejection of the bulk of evidence on this was justified. We now have two distinct approaches working in this area and will, over time see which is better for the children involved. Let's not go to any extremes though. Pubity blockers have been around since the eighties and have been approved for use after extensive research. They are not dangerous drugs and are used in cases other than medically transitioning.

Now, let's have a look at the percentage of children within a society atually receiving these kinds of treatment, shall we?. It's considerably smaller than 1%.
That being said: if there is harm done, it's tragical ... and there need to be sufficient safeguards, especially psychologically. But we have to realize that the perception of and reaction to this issue is far stronger than the issue itself. Weaponized gender related politics happen on the outer edges of the spectrum - and that's true for both, left and right. The center, the overwhelming majority, simply does not care as much.
Exactly, I doubt you will find more support here on UA-cam as sane and moderate responses don't get much tracktion. But just know you aren't the only one to think that way, I really dislike people, on either side, pushing this for profit or political gain.
I agree with you, this has been deliberately stoked to create an issue. With any other health issue mental of physical, it isn't weaponise to create such an uproar. The only parallel I can think of is homosexuality. This particular problem is such a tiny percentage of people and they should be protected but the facts show that transitioning means less suicides and they'd an even smaller percentage regret their decision. If puberty blockers cause issues then that can be researched and all information given to applicants. Every applicant should have also receive psychotherapy to discuss beery thing in full prior to any treatment. What's an absolute joke is that they're concentrating on this, all the while mental health services are so limited, wait times so long that nobody can get decent therapy. There isn't a discussion on those lives which are ruined or lead to suicide. Instead that's seen as 'woke'! I find this whole discussion here very disingenuous

Demonising and sacking anyone who point out the lack of evidence and rigour is disingenuous. Hopefully the Cass report will now rectify that. And the people affected, however few, can rely on decent care instead of ideology.
There is a metastudy from Finland (and another from the Netherlands, I think) showing that gender reassignment is no more effective in reducing depression and anxiety among young people with gender dysphoria than psychotherapy, medication, etc.
Imagine a person suffering from long-term, persistent, clinical depression who demanded a lobotomy or else they'd commit suicide. That person would certainly not be assessed by responsible medical professionals and set on the path to receiving a surgical procedure that would irrevocably alter them.
In 10-15 years, that's how this "debate" will be viewed: medical misadventure made possible by ill-informed patients who have been led to believe radical surgery will cure their ills.

Puberty blockers are being prescribed off-label to minors, despite clear and substantial evidence that they not only do not cure GD, but actively cause a whole host of other health problems which will last a lifetime.

Frankly had the gender fluidity science been available when i was 10 id have probably had a gender reassignment as i think most of my depression is body Dysmorphia and i find the politicising of this when it should be a fundamental human right to feel happy. As happiness trumps health every time if i died in 30 years of happiness or 100 years of misery I'd take the happiness every time.

Just so you know, large populations of LGB people have disagreed with this ideology since the beginning. We do not like being involuntarily categorized into the Wi-Fi password community. I am happy that common sense is turning the tide and hope it will continue.

Precocious puberty and juvenile cancers are exactly what puberty blockers were originally designed to help. The point here is that puberty blockers are being prescribed off-label to treat gender dysphoria. These are extremely powerful drugs that come with a catalogue of side effects and longterm health risks (early onset osteoporosis, stunting of cognitive and sexual development, cardiovascular issues, elevated risk of cancers, etc) and for that reason are supposed to be used for 1-2 years max and only in absolutely medically necessary cases.
They are so dangerous that even in cases they were designed for, such as precocious puberty, these kids can’t live a normal life on them. They cause brittle bones to the extent that kids are warned not to run or participate in sports while on them, as they risk serious fracture.
Now you can understand taking these for a short term, last resort in cases of a young person having cancer for example. I have a relative who took them when he was diagnosed with a brain tumour as a kid. But they should not be doled out for kids who are simply confused about their identity. They are not a “pause” on puberty as they’ve been called. They’re dangerous drugs and should never have been used for this purpose.
Use for a physical reason is quite different to use for a problem in the mind.

I appreciated the question about 14 minutes in: Will there actually be the resources to do a good job? Every time there is a mass shooting in the US they say, "This is a mental health issue, not a gun issue by people who do absolutely nothing advocate for support of people with mental health problems. I appreciated the doctor in this video, he wanted genuine care. I just think people have to be careful because the messages of caution about transitioning, and a thoughtful approach are going to be pushed out mostly by people who just don't want transgender people to exist, and who don't care one bit about children's mental health either.
That's precisely what's going to happen and it's because the activists were (some still are) too extreme. It's unavoidable, sadly. Life is about to get proper hard for privileged white trans people from wealthy countries. It was already hard for trans prostitutes.
There is no such thing as being “transgender”. There are confused kids, and then there are paraphilic men.
