      I would agree. That’s why I tried to make sure we carved out a pathway for him in this. A guy like him (which I have concerns about defensively but we’ll figure that out later), is critical offensively if you wanna build around Scottie.

      @@_AVC_ ur right on the body needing maturing and defensively that being an issue, hes young so it’s understandable, I think he’s spacing will get him time to work on things, I’ve seen him key up on passing lanes and reading when to cut, that has been getting him deflections from active feet, but needs more experience imo to see if he’s able to continue to adapt offence theory into defensive iq

      @@logicalraptorsfanatic 100% and I won’t lie I do worry about his physical development on the defensive end (I’ve done a lot of work in college and the league with young players so I’m pretty keen on this usually). That’s certainly the hope! Gotta develop some other skills as well but yes I hope so! That’s why I wanted to make sure we paved the way for him to get good PT next year. On the offensive side of the ball he is the kind of guy you need around Scottie.

    The kelly and ochai trade had different issues at play… we almost had 4 picks in this years draft and bringing in that many guys in one year wouldn’t have worked the best, even 3 guys is too much imo, i think ochai is interesting as a prospect, has defensive chops but needs work on offence, which fits with rj on different skills in the same position, so rj can be used at different positions if needed, Kelly’s role is straight forward spacing passing center/pf with strong leadership and mentoring skills for a younger team, we had the 31st pick as well and having a pick in the late 20s doesn’t change a lot for the tier available at 19th and 31st

    • @_AVC_
      @_AVC_  Місяць тому +2

      For sure those are all very fair points. I’m probably a bit too decisive when it comes to talent evaluation (that used to be my job and still kinda is haha), so I’ve probably just already written off Ochai which isn’t really fair. I still would have rather tried to turn those picks into picks down the line, but I understand the idea you have.

    The biggest need for the Raptors is truthfully development and chemistry. Barnes, Quickley, Barrett, and Dick need to be looked at as your young core. Even if Dick is a bench player. There has been teams in the past that have had young core’s and they fail to develop and mesh. So if the Raptors can do that they can at least have building blocks. The one factor that I don’t think anyone is talking about is finding a killer to pair with Quickley. RJ and Barnes will be a legit wing combo going forward. But they need that that true bucket getter who can form a legit backcourt with Quickley. That’s why I’d love to see them either be aggressive and try to trade up if they have to for a Collier or a Devin Carter for sure. Or clear as much cap and as possible and go after Jamal Murray next off-season if he doesn’t sign a extension. A homecoming would be nice. Murray, Quickley, Barnes, and Barrett would be fun to watch.

But after watching their bench well the last few seasons. It would benefit them to keep him around and still develop his game. He’s only 23/24. And like I said he could score which is needed off the bench. So I get where you are coming from but even a lot of Bulls fans were upset to lose him after seeing how he preformed in the Raptors G-League and a bid at the end of the season.

    Great video and analysis, bud. Typically, I don't watch youtube team analysis of the Raptors since they usually leave me scratching my head. Especially if the analyst doesn't watch all or most of their games. And even if it's someone who does cover and support the team full-time, they typically give the wrong take 19/20 times.
    Anyhoo. Great job. I really like the Miami Duncan Robinson trade idea. The Raptors really need drafted players that can defend and also shoot from 3. They can't acquire - via the draft - anymore weak or middling defenders the way the roster is currently constructed with Grady, RJ and Quickly or they will never be a good defensive team. While they may not be necessarily horrible defenders, they certainly are not lockdown defenders.
    The Raptors biggest needs - and lets be honest, they need everything - are a backup PG who can defend the point of attack, long-armed wings who can switch on D and a backup center of the future who can switch and block shots. 3-pt shooting from center is not a must as long as he can switch but the wings and PGs must be able to shoot from 3 or their spacing is compromised (again!).

    CJ is expensive 30+30 and he'd be more of GTJ upgrade, the problem I see is that Raps would still be small, forcing Barnes to be the lead defender, which I don't think would work out well. How to fix it, I"m not sure, but I like FA Patrick Williams, Andrew Wiggins, someone 6'9-6'7 who can defend and shoot, Naji Marshal? OG light.
    Might be better to let Brown walk and sign an FA, the 2025 pick would be nice.

    • @_AVC_
      @_AVC_  Місяць тому +1

      Yeah I just really wanted that pick. I think it does two things: Obviously put Toronto in a place to trade up if someone you really want is there. Second, having that $30 million can also be an asset. Yes he doesn’t help you win right now but that’s not happening regardless. If someone becomes disgruntled you have a guy that can be used in the deal to bring them in. CJ is easy to sell a franchise on so look at it as trading for the ability to strike when someone becomes available.

      @@_AVC_ I like almost everything here but Dick needs to be looked at as a starter. Quickley-Barrett-Gradey Dick-Barnes-Poetl. I am signing Brown and see if he can up his value before the deadline. Raps pick next year so it is their style to stand pat with whatever draft capital they got. Brown for Wiggins works once he's trade eligible and with option picked up. Taking Wiggins contract should come with a pick from GSW. I also do not think I would pick a big at 19 unless we are convinced a freak of nature like Zac Edey translates. So I think I'd take upside Carrigton there. At 31 I'd pick a big from who is left. On day 2 of the draft Masai will select: Izan Almansa (who?) and then same day sign someone who did not get drafted like big 4-5 PJ Hall. I think Monte Morris is a possibility as back-up point guard and as mle acquisition. They will have to have a tank trap door for Copper Flagg. If you took on a bad contract it could work to get some future picks but CJ is valuable to a contender so it just doesn't make sense. Hey appreciate the thoughts! So I do have some questions/thoughts.
      So when we say someone is more valuable than someone I think that’s rarely a 100% truth. Some guys are more valuable to different teams because they are in need of different things or find themselves in different phases. So I’ll challenge you to try and rethink that one. I try to challenge people to not use absolute statements, it’s a bad debate practice haha.

      @javiernoris3496 Місяць тому +1

      @@_AVC_ I can't be hyper specific in outlining when someone is more or less valuable (semantics) but CJ will be more valuable to almost every team in the league from a relative standpoint (better player now, and can trade away for better future assets), Brown is a good bench player CJ is a good number 3 on a contending team. His skillset is alot more rare. Brown is a 33% 3pt shooter for his career and barely shot 31% from 3 last year. The modern NBA doesn't value that skill set as much as it did just a few years ago, you can't sustain a wing player in a strong rotation with those numbers now a days. CJ shoot 40% from 3 for his career (elite shooter). If the Pelicans trade CJ they can get a much higher quality player and/or more valuable pics than a Brown type player with only 1 year left on his deal and on top of that giving up a bunch of future assets, just doesn't make sense really. Not trying to criticize, just can't imagine a straight swap being considered (much less giving up additional future draft assets) by the Pelicans.

      So I want to make ya think again about fit and value, and I wanna be clear I like both players a ton. The value of CJ comes from his shooting and from what I understand his leadership. You get some deficiencies then in his ability to finish and pretty much the entire defensive end of the court. So you get some give and take and in reality the players have some opposite qualities, meaning depending on what a team needs the value of those two players will be different. One also costs a lot more and is at a much older age so teams consider that as well.
      So here is my thought then. I don’t look at that trade in a vacuum and maybe I should explain that better in the video. The Pelicans are trying very hard to add a new PG this offseason. You might not even move CJ in that trade, so why not flip him into something that compliments your new PG better than he might.
      Curious to hear your thoughts!

      @@_AVC_ You can get more than Brown and subtracting picks for CJ. Doesn't make sense. Zion is already a non shooter, can't add more non shooters and expect to compete. Brown and Zion would basically be unplayable together, you can at most have 1 non shooter on the floor at one time come playoff time.

      @@javiernoris3496 I’ll tell ya from a strategic POV that’s not really true. On a high level view yes, but so much goes into spacing and movement outside of shooting. I did a report for an NBA team just last week about this actually haha.
      It was titled “How Ausar Thompson is one of the best spacers in basketball.”

      @@_AVC_ depends on the direction the fo choose, memphis seems open to talk about the 9th, trae maybe is going out and now raptors have control over the picks, the idea of having a 2025 1st for him is great, but cj sallary would limit the cap, they need to find a cheaper option

      @@murillorocha83 I’m glad you brought up the CJ thing actually because I didn’t explain it as well as I wanted to. The benefit of CJ isn’t on the court obviously, it’s actually the contract amount. If a particular player becomes available he helps easily fill the financial side of the deal to get negotiations going. He gets traded (and probably bought out) and Toronto brings in a big time player. Or he just plays solid basketball for y’all and frees up cap space in 2 seasons.
