You did a excellent job ty for sharing. I got some painting to do but those fumes get to me badly. Seems like the mask hardly do any justice. If you know any mask that can tone the smell down while wearing them please let me know. Ty in advance!
Adding water to the paint per se is not bad since the paint contains water (from the name itself, water-based 😆). Do you mean not to add more water? She used 10% water, should she have put 5% add instead? When you said "reduce". I believe you cant use lacquer thinner, or paint thinner to a "water-based" paint. You can add "Floetrol" to ensure none of brush marks left behind

The wood grain popped up like that because of the water you added into the paint. It caused swelling in the wood. Reduce or don't add the water and then it won't have the grain raise up plus you won't have to apply so many coats. Hope that helps everyone. It turned out beautiful.
She didn't remove original finish and then put 2 coats of shellac on it before painting. Seems unlikely the water would have seep into the grain. The grain was likely already raised from long term exposure to humidity.
👌🏼 another great product that works well is KILZ bonding primer. 25 a gallon but it also repels water and mildew and coats ikea type glossy furniture, plastic, metal. It also makes it so you barely use any paint. Thanks for this! ❤
Kiltz is a great product but has a horrible chemical smell which is off putting for people with allergies. It will cover almost anything and does retard mold growth.
my desk has to be painted in my office i have a new craft table that was built in and will be hard to move to get my desk out so I will have to use kilz because i wont be moving it and don't wanna spray in a small room
I just received a quote to do for my bedroom set and 2 extra pieces for $2200. I don’t have that kind of money! I will try this one piece at time. Thank you 🙏🏽
Great tips here. I’m painting a large dresser soon. I’m gonna sand the top and give it a clear stain and paint the rest so I’ll spray it with Shilac. Nice job on that table came out great.
Easy, affordable and straight to the point. I love your voice, your simple instructions and the warm quality of this video. Your work is beautiful. I just subscribed. Thank you.
I appreciated your clear and concise explanation as you went along. Veey nice paint job. If I wanted to use a roller, could you recommend that? Foam or pile? Thank you !
The best roller for painting furniture is the Mohair roller from Sherwin Williams. It’s a short nap and is the best at leaving only a small amount of texture behind.
Looks great ,I picked up a tip from you to coat my table and buffet with milk paint first then my final color coat with a poly finish.Hope I got that right .Better watch video again before I start
BEAUTIFUL OUTCOME! MY TV STAND AND DVD/BOOKSHELVES ARE CHALK WHITE. I ORDERED BOTH A COFFEE TABLE AND MATCHING END TABLE FROM AMAZON WHITE. BUT WHAT CAME WAS AN EGGSHELL AND LIGHTER CREAM. U CAN ABSOLUTELY TELL. MY TEAL AND WHITE LIVINGROOM STILL LOOKS GREAT BUT U CAN SO TELL THE DIFF IN COLORS. I AM GONNA GET THE SUPPLIES AND PROB USE THIS WEEKEND FOR THE PAINT PROJECT. CURRENTLY LOOKING AT VIDZ LIKE YOURS FOR INSPIRATION/INSTRUCTION.
I didn't know you can paint furniture without sanding first, so I'm glad I saw this video. Next project I won't feel bad about repainting w/out sanding.
Me as well. Not a fan of painting detailed or vintage wood furniture that can otherwise be restored and kept with original finish. Only run of the mill furniture should be painted.
Nice. Hey I did hear another artist say never add the water right into the paint can as the bacteria in the water causes a chemical reaction after time, and when you paint something later with that paint the actual piece can smell bad weeks or months after you paint it 😩
This was such a soothing video. Your voice and tone were very nice and easy to follow. The table turned out amazing! I'm going to attempt to do the same thing to an old desk I have. Thanks again for such an informative video.
Wou this came out beautiful, i have 2 21x21 tables black that I just love and this is even the color scheme i was , looking for. Thank you im definitely saving my tables
I think it turned out beautifully! That said, for the "you should've left the beautiful wood" 🙄 folks. Different strokes for different folks, and brace yourself...not everyone likes natural wood. Yes, a shocking, I know. TONS of channels focus on natural wood restoration. Wouldn't it make more sense to watch something that you like?
It turned out great, well done! I find using a foam roller brush makes the job faster and ensures there are no brush strokes etc. Is there any reason you prefer a brush over a roller?
The degreaser spray and a scuffing pad to start as a “ wet sand “ ( would have taken the same amount of time with a better prepared surface ), wipe it down with a clean damp rag. A can of rust oleum primer and a can of rust oleum topcoat and you would’ve been finished by lunch. The paint would last for 20 years.
I’d rather people buy painted wood furniture than buy cheap shit that was made in a factory that will end up in a landfill in 10 years. You’re right, eventually someone will decide to remove the paint from this piece, and it will still be a perfectly good piece of furniture when they do. If someone went to TJ Maxx or Hobby lobby trying to buy a little side table like this, it would cost them over $100, and it would be made out of shitty press board.
That is so beautiful thank you so much for sharing and teaching us this but I would put a color where the front of it like a black or some thing that’s in the
I've always sanded but just downsized to an apartment and figure the sander will be too loud. Trying this weekend on a bed and dresser. Thanks for the tips.
so if you prime with shellac. u dont need to sand scuff scar? iv been watching furniture painting videos for a bed project and you are first to shellac as a primer
You’re such a good teacher and you’re very talented!! It’s beautiful!! I’m only saying this since you asked for peoples opinion that the little knobs I’d paint black or maybe a pop of color just for contrast. Did you ever do other pieces where you added a pop of color? If so I’d like to see😊
The wood grain popped up because of the added water. If adding water always sand the surface down a bit between layers of paint❤ Otherwise lovely job ❤️ well done

quiet, simple tutorial. No cheesy or loud music....what a breath of fresh air. thank you.
HATE loud piano music!

Oil based paint stops this
Wonder what those products are called in the UK? Shellac?
I think it's gorgeous, I would have used a roller though and a brush for the fiddly bits. Much quicker.

@@wendynicholss6886 I LOVE fiddly bits (and bobs LOL)
Turned out beautiful! And no sanding - the best part.
You had my attention at “no sanding”. Tfs❤️

Are you saying oil based kilz after or instead of shellac spray?
Yes I like Kilz better. Shellac is trickier to use, more expensive and has a smell.
Oil or water based are equally good.@@amandachilds5290

Really beautiful outcome. You're a very good teacher giving all kinds of info step-by-step. Great that there's no sanding!
It looks vintage and funky at the same time. Love it.
Thanks for including all the products you used. The table is completely transformed. Love it!

Never ever thought of adding water to paint, but if it's waterbased paint, why not :) Thanks for the tip!

Love the fact that no sanding is required
It's thecdame with Waverly Chalk paint. No primer needed, two coats is usually good.
High quality paint no BRUSH is needed
Mineral paints and Milk paints don’t require sanding. It’s still beneficial to lightly sand.
Well done, lucid, helpful, no extraneous filler
I think having a contrast to whatever wall is first decision! Love this about to do it for a tall shelf.

Who carries general finishes milk paint products?❤
You might be able to but don’t mix water based paints with acrylics, polys and shellac
That’s kind of rule number one.
Use the same type of paint .
Great instruction. Sounds like a reasonable amount to spend. Looks perfect! I will try this with my daughter's bedroom set.🙂

Such a difference with a few coats of paint! I love that there is no sanding involved. I will try this 👍

Appreciate your patience with the process! It shows…
Have to say was shocked of the makeover cost tho $$ beautiful outcome ❤

Nice transformation. I'll have to check out General Finishes! Thanks for the info.
Would you recommend this same process for an oak kitchen table?
Great job 👏😍 I am going to repaint my shelf soon, thank you 🙏
Thanks! Good luck!!
Can you please do a video on distresding/antiquing a piece? Thanks so much!
This is fantastic, it looks beautiful, unrecognizable. Thank you!
Looks great! If I wanted to distress it at which step would I do that ? Before the finish or after?
Before
You should use acetone to thin the paint
I've always sanded but just downsized to an apartment and figure the sander will be too loud. Trying this weekend on a bed and dresser. Thanks for the tips.
You can just let your neighbors know you'll be sanding not too early or too late. They'll be ok
Omg amazing
Very 😊 nice it 👀 looks great… I would put that in my living room…keep up the good work very helpful information…😇 Thank you for sharing 😻
Looks pretty good!
I love the grey too. Good job.
I love this, you really did a beautiful job!
Thank you so much for the tips! Your table is awesome!
Thanks so much! 😊
so if you prime with shellac. u dont need to sand scuff scar? iv been watching furniture painting videos for a bed project and you are first to shellac as a primer

Very nice. Drawer pulls match perfectly. 💞
Great video and amazing work! I am now inspired...thanks
Awesome! Thank you!

Command paint by Benjamin Moore, satin finish. Highly recommend! No primer, no sanding, quick drying to a beautiful finish.
You had me at no sanding!
love this helped me so much was so sweet to watch

Checking if only works on chalk paint or can use flat paint with shellac and top coat. Thanks
Cool video I don t like painting wood furniture I like how the nightstand look after you painted it
Thxs
This is beautiful, how many cans of the shellac snd polycrylic would I need for a table that’s 72x72 snd 8 standard wood chairs
I haven't heard of milk paint, but will definitely look I also have a couple tables that need painting.
Anyway of refinishing a wood table in an apartment? I don't have a garage.
Awesome! Will this work if I use spray paint instead of the milk paint?
Thank you, I am planning to paint my parents old furniture to bring a new look
My favorite color love it
Beautifully painted
You make this look no sweat. 🤣
I know how sweaty it will be.
Can you use a white primer before painting , if yes can you suggest a good one to use?
The wood grain popped up because of the added water. If adding water always sand the surface down a bit between layers of paint❤
Otherwise lovely job ❤️ well done
Cool, thanks!
So nice your labor help my work is same
I like it. It looks great. I have a couple of end tables I might be doing them.
