Hi! This tutorial could've come at a better time for me! I like your idea I've kicked the idea around for sometime to complete a vintage wooden hostess cart / with wheels or take wheels off and whitewash, cherry stain, black stain or paint black with a metallic edging possibly. Thank you!!! ♥️🙏👍
@LemonstoLemonadeFurniture Nice piece!! 👍🏻💝 I heard you mentioned in the video that the wax is scented - following the link you gave for the furniture wax, their ad says nothing about it being scented. Is this (from Real Milk Paint) actually the same wax that you mentioned in the video?
Just an FYI for people. Denatured alcohol rubbed on furniture with old dark varnish will lighten the coat two times lighter. Then rinse and dry your item. Use Johnson Paste wax rubbed in well.
Hi thank you so much I wasn't paying attention to labels and accidentally bought denatured alcohol instead of Acetone and was wondering what I could use it for. About to try this later
The cabinet is beautiful❤. Two handles on each of the drawers look bit heavy. I may have filled in screw holes with woodfiller and drilled a new centre hole for one handle on each of the drawers. Not saying this would be better but handles are beautiful and so ornate that two look little heavy on this now simplified beautiful cabinet.❤
LOVELY!! I have to admit... as much as I hated those over-designed French Revival handles with the original red/orange finish they look much more appropriate all cleaned up with the weathered white wood! Amazing what miracles a little love and attention (and sweat equity) can accomplish.
I love the look of wood and thought it beautiful before, I'm an antique lover, not a trendy person. However, your finished product is gorgeous, glad you kept the handles, solid brass is very nice and looks great on the new finish, warms it up as well. Overall, I like what you did. Goal achieved.
OMG! It's gorgeous. I'm at trying this on my next project. There's so much of that old pine in the thrift stores here and this method is a great way to transform them. Thank you.
I've seen where people use an old crock pot to clean hardware with the vinegar. Knobs, hinges etc. That way when you have something to dry for 24 hours, the crock pot does the work for you in that amount of time. Your project is beautiful 😍
There is no household bleach in wood bleach. Some wood bleach is oxalic acid (Savogran Wood Bleach). Two part wood bleach is sodium hydroxide “Solution A” and hydrogen peroxide “Solution B.”
It looks better. 👌 Thanks for giving me a possible solution to lightening my real knotty pine wood walls in my kitchen. Sanding is going to be a test, but I really don't want to get rid of them. I want to salvage the original integrity of my 1960's ranch house. I think the wood came from our land also because the original owner was a carpenter. 😊
Wow! What a transformation, well done. Cheers for the step by step instructions and the ideas others gave as well. Now I’m feeling a bit more motivated to redo my husband’s ghastly dresser. It’s so awful that the dresser is IN the closet!
Nice improvement! I might have tried squaring off the top front edge and adding modern hardware. A safety comment coming from a chemist in the paper/wood industry, please cover your skin when using harsh chemicals, arms, legs & feet included. The solutions you used can cause burns.
The piece was beautiful but I think when you put the old handles on it, it dated the piece. Black modern handles or modern gold handles would make this piece look beautiful. I’ve never tried the bleaching but I might just have to try it. Thank you for sharing with us.
The “ugly” dresser has been erased! A lot of work and now you have more knowledge for those dressers that have the “uglies”. Definitely a great transition from the orange pine!
I really like using gold and silver rub and buff. Great job. You might try a handle with very light rubbed buff and see what you think. Thank you for sharing
You did a great job! It looks nice and I liked the hardware. I’m glad you were able to re-purpose the hardware. The bleached look is interesting. It gives me an idea of what to do with an old coffee table that’s in my sun porch! Thanks for sharing all your tips and uses! I’m glad to know about the sander, too.
I think the piece looks great with the bleached and paint wash look-paint wash was perfect idea. I’m wondering how the hardware would look if spray painted black?? ~Cathy
Thank you for doing this video! I have been wanting to learn how to get that white washed look from the “yellowed” look. This really looks great! Love the transformation
Love the look ❤. Going to try this. I don’t resale. I just do it for myself when the pieces get old to me. I take them to some charity and move onto another piece.
I love it! You did an awesome job. I love that it's real pine wood! That's what I love about shopping at antique and thrift stores. My husband and I bought a nice computer desk at our local Goodwill store. It's not wood, but the finish looks great, but the top is pretty messed up, so hubby's making a butcher block to replace it. Can't wait to see how it turns out.
That's seriously beautiful. Trends or not, this to me looks fresh and timeless. It could end up in a beachy setting, farmhouse or even transitional. Have no idea about the price. Nothing to go by---what amount you're asking, etc.
Love the bleach technique, and I think you do great work. I do not love the hardware with it--the tone is now cool, and the handles have a warm tone. i think changing the hardware will help it sell. I also think it needs legs, and I might have conditioned the wood first to tone down the knots on the piece. So, I still think you are fabulous! Great work!
Lovely job!!! Don’t agree with other comments about changing the handles, so glad you kept them. Hope you get a great price after all your hard work 😊👍
I had the same problem with a pine dresser I was working on. I ended up painting and using the same handles. Wish i had know. About the bleaching. Thanks for sharing your journey!
This has been so helpful! I'm new to tackling furniture makeovers (although I've painted kitchen cabinets very successfully) and have an old but wonderful (excellent condition) walnut buffet I'd like to paint. I want to make it look Country French. You've inspired me! And btw good job reusing the handles. I did that with kitchen cabinets. They were expensive brass handles just like yours and I cleaned them up as you did and it surprised me how good they looked. I took deeply stained dark kitchen cabinets and made them over with a beautiful green (candy apple?) paint that worked beautifully in a large farmhouse kitchen with French Country accents and wallpaper. I painted the old speckled countertop that screamed 1960 a bright white (Beyond ALL in One) and when I sold that house (in 2 days) that kitchen redo made everyone at the open house comment it was gorgeous. It looked very expensive but I did it all (paint, new wall paper, and curtains) for
I want to cry. These fads never last. That's a beautiful dresser. I wouldn't do much to it. People will hate these trends in ten years. Whatever makes y'all happy though. I suggest you like what you want, and dodge any trend. Run toward the burning mountain, while rhe world runs away.
The belt sander can be tricky to keep flat and will gouge soft wood like pine easily. So be careful. The dresser turned out great. I am going to try this on a pine dresser that had me stumped. Hope it comes out as good as yours!
I loved it after it was sanded down. I would have done a light varnish. The natural wood was gorgeous. I also would have cleaned the original hardware and reused. To each his own though. ❤😊
yes, agree, i also love the original and those drawer handles are lovely! But with the new transformation, it looked cheap and pvc like :( and for some reason the handles didnt work with the bleached wood. But without seeing the original, it looks ok, just with the before and after, it doesnt justify the makeover...sorry..:(
I think it turned out great! I love flipping furniture and my neighbors call me the “dumpster rat”. I don’t mind at all. Actually it is a compliment. As far as this comment, the tools you were using, work very well to “tear down” (an upholster’s term) furniture without damaging the fabric. That is, if I intend to reuse the fabric. (I only pick garbage, I try to salvage everything. However if I don’t intend to reuse the material on the piece it came from, I will cut along the bottom, just above the staple line. Pulling staples is very time consuming. Then you can either go over what is left, or pull it out with some pliers and hammer down any staples that come out while removing the fabric. ( I try for perfection every time.) About the tool, If you can just get in under one corner and use a gentle prying motion, the staple will give. If not try something a little thinner first to get it started. Don’t go for the center. It will not turn out well. I’m in the middle of redoing a sofa chaise combo that is more vinyl than leather, and I’m going to reuse the materials So, gentle is the key for this any many more fabrics that still have life in them. You can also find many free tic tok videos as inspiration. I only have 200.00 in total invested and it is for my apartment. If you would like, I would be glad to answer any questions you have, as I was a high end piece rate upholster for almost ten years before making a career (educated) as an interior designer. I no longer work a job, which gives me lots of time to “putter”. I am a decent upholster, but my true talent lies in fixing screw ups. I can hide things on furniture, both case goods and soft goods, that don’t seem possible. I do so without compromising the quality of the piece. That is why I liked watching you bleach this piece. It didnt seem expensive, hard or very time consuming. They are the top three things I look for when redoing furniture. Waste not want not!!! My current sofa is going to become a recliner, at least one poof ottoman. It is very nice distressed cowhide. I’m thinking pillows and maybe coin purses with the rest. I’m sorry this is so long, but you seem so genuinely i treated, I thought you may appreciate the value of my experience. If you made it this far, thank you for humoring an old lady. If you are interested I will send you some pictures. They is nothing wrong with the outsides of the sofa. It looks great u til you look and know what to look for. Again I like your style and you made me feel very comfortable to watch you and then leave you a “journal” . They is much more where that came from. Sincerely, Loretta thedizzydesigner@gmail.com
The world needs more "Dumpster Rats"! That's my passion too. Sadly (or happily?) I now live in a country where discarded furniture is really at the end of it's life - but that too is changing as folks are throwing out solid wood, old furniture in favour of modern MDF and Chipboard.

I like the bleach makeover- I didn’t know this could be done- very cool- your furniture piece turned out great! 👍👍

Love the paint but the hardware, not so much!!
Disagree….those handles are awesome! Black would be oppressive
Hi from Australia. One thing that would help the drawer sanding to be less wobbly, is to put a couple of bricks inside each drawer.
😊😊😃😃😃
Just an FYI for people. Denatured alcohol rubbed on furniture with old dark varnish will lighten the coat two times lighter. Then rinse and dry your item. Use Johnson Paste wax rubbed in well.
Excellent! Thanks for sharing this comment. I’m going to try your recommendation.
Hi thank you so much I wasn't paying attention to labels and accidentally bought denatured alcohol instead of Acetone and was wondering what I could use it for. About to try this later
So you would use this method instead of using the Simple Green? I would like to try something else because I am highly allergic to Simple Green.
Thanks for the info!😊
The cabinet is beautiful❤. Two handles on each of the drawers look bit heavy. I may have filled in screw holes with woodfiller and drilled a new centre hole for one handle on each of the drawers. I like it and the handles too. They give it a cleaned up vintage vibe. Good job.
Thank you!
I love the look of wood and thought it beautiful before, I'm an antique lover, not a trendy person. However, your finished product is gorgeous, glad you kept the handles, solid brass is very nice and looks great on the new finish, warms it up as well. Overall, I like what you did. Goal achieved.
I love the hardware. It's updated but keeping some of its original character.
I love the hardware better on this color.
I think it turned out great. I really like that you can still see the wood grain.
OMG! It's gorgeous. I'm at trying this on my next project. There's so much of that old pine in the thrift stores here and this method is a great way to transform them. Thank you.
The handles look amazing against the bleached wood! I personally don't like pine, but this piece turned out Gorgeous! Thanks so much for sharing
Holy cow! That was not what i expected at all. It turned out amazing!
I've seen where people use an old crock pot to clean hardware with the vinegar. Knobs, hinges etc. That way when you have something to dry for 24 hours, the crock pot does the work for you in that amount of time. Your project is beautiful 😍
I’d use oxcillic acid to bleach wood. That’s what the antique restorers use to get rid of stains on an antique.
Lovely
So do I but I’m terrified of it, so I make sure I’m masked up, with goggles and gloves 😅
Interesting! I have a stained Djembi drum. Where would I find some of this oxcillic acid? Do you let it sit for 24 hours too?
@@elettramia6380 do you think breathing in bleach is any safer? Lol
There is no household bleach in wood bleach. Some wood bleach is oxalic acid (Savogran Wood Bleach). Two part wood bleach is sodium hydroxide “Solution A” and hydrogen peroxide “Solution B.”
LOVE this!! And the cleaned up hardware is gorgeous. Makes it unique. Modern handles might be fashionable but this is timeless. Great job. 💙
So thrilled you loved the outcome. Stunning look.
Blessings Always
Thank you so much!!
It looks better. 👌 Thanks for giving me a possible solution to lightening my real knotty pine wood walls in my kitchen. Sanding is going to be a test, but I really don't want to get rid of them. I had a brass range hood for 23 yrs. Liquid ‘bar keepers friend’ is easy fast brass cleaner
Yep, Can’t beat Bar Keepers Friend! I’m 57 & my Mom used it when flipping houses & furniture when I was a kid!😊
I think it looks great! I didn't think the hardware would look so great but the color is perfect. Way to upcycle!
Thanks so much! 😊
Same. I would've tossed them but glad she didn't bc it really looked great after
That is beautiful,I am a natural wood lover, but this pretty amazing how it turned out.
Thank you very much!
I like it. The handles no because well I remember those as a kid! 🤣
Beautiful and the handles look great on it!
Wow! What a transformation, well done. Cheers for the step by step instructions and the ideas others gave as well. Now I’m feeling a bit more motivated to redo my husband’s ghastly dresser. It’s so awful that the dresser is IN the closet!
I loved the bleached wood look before you done painting on it. 😊
Great tutorial! I've learnt a lot. I had never heard of wood bleach before!
So glad it was helpful!
Girl, you did a great job!!! It's gorgeous!
Thank you so much!!
Nice improvement! I might have tried squaring off the top front edge and adding modern hardware. A safety comment coming from a chemist in the paper/wood industry, please cover your skin when using harsh chemicals, arms, legs & feet included. The solutions you used can cause burns.
What a sweetheart you are …thank you for all of your help
Love this!! Beautiful turnout! Ty for sharing!
You are so welcome!
The piece was beautiful but I think when you put the old handles on it, it dated the piece. Black modern handles or modern gold handles would make this piece look beautiful. I’ve never tried the bleaching but I might just have to try it. Thank you for sharing with us.
Wow. I didn't think I'd like it, but it just came together to look so beautiful. Nice job.
Thoroughly enjoyed watching this change. What a difference
Glad you enjoyed it
It has MORE depth than the piece on Amazon - beautiful! Great work.
It turned out pretty nice in my opinion. It gives me farmhouse decor vibes.
would also suit an old period home
19:09 I really like the wood and the tone you achieved. Somebody will buy it to put in just the right place. Love your work.
Thank you so much! I appreciate you tuning in! Hope to see you next time!
Beautiful job on the dresser. No no no on the handles.
I absolutely love it! I happen to like the handles. It gives it an antique look.
I think they're a fun touch, too!
Beautiful project and the original handles are perfect!!
Thank you very much!

I really like using gold and silver rub and buff. Great job. You might try a handle with very light rubbed buff and see what you think. Thank you for sharing
Love that you cleaned that hardware and reused it! Lovely jewelry for the dresser
Very pretty. Nice job.
Totally great updated dresser
Stunning, really beautiful. I’d be happy to have that in my home
Beautiful work. I wouldn’t change a thing you did.
Thank you! 😊
Great bleached look. It looks great. Those handles though still really date it. Black modern handles would have been better
I totally agree
The handles totally defeated the purpose.the bleaching went great!, the handles are too dated bringing the whole flip back.
AGREED and black handles would indeed have looked good.
I kinda like them...
I think the handles bring a yellow cast on the piece. I personally would have preferred a brushed nickel handle.
But the piece is beautiful overall. 😊
I think the piece looks great with the bleached and paint wash look-paint wash was perfect idea. I’m wondering how the hardware would look if spray painted black?? ~Cathy
my thoughts exactly! I was thinking maybe a flat black so it won’t take away from the dresser itself
Yes to the flat black!🙌🏻
I love the hardware, glad you reused it.
Me too!
I think it turned out lovely. You really take and idea an create a vision of beauty!
Beautiful beautiful
The color turned out amazing. I really dislike the hardware still.
Love the original hardware!

I can’t believe how much I like the change! Just hate that old orange pine, but this turned out great! ❤

Yes,knowing the asking price would be extremely helpful.( Especially if someone wanted to invest time into a project like this)
Beautiful... love the hardware with the new color... compliments the color.. ❤
Of course, it turned out beautiful ❣️. I wasn’t sure how you could transform it, but you did not disappoint . Lovely❣️ - Jill 😘
Thanks so much 😊 have a great week ahead Jill
Love the colour, works well with this piece. Some chunky legs would look nice, but it's also fab how it is.
Love the bleach technique, and I think you do great work. I do not love the hardware with it--the tone is now cool, and the handles have a warm tone. i think changing the hardware will help it sell. Just gorgeous!
Absolutely beautiful!
Lovely job!!! Don’t agree with other comments about changing the handles, so glad you kept them. Hope you get a great price after all your hard work 😊👍
Such a beautiful solid wood piece! Even with just the hardware gone, it gets a serious update.
That turned out beautiful. The handles look nice. I would probably paint them black for my home. Great job❤
I had the same problem with a pine dresser I was working on. I ended up painting and using the same handles. Wish i had know. About the bleaching. Thanks for sharing your journey!
Sorry to hear that! Yea, it was a real work around for sure! I was not expecting that issue
The hardware is so great
I'd definitely put a second coat on the ghost handles, or similar. Nicely done!
I love the finished product!
You did a great job. It looks fantastic. Thanks for the idea. I've never heard of this process.
It looks fabulous, job well done, I’d like to use that same technique on a hall stand I’ve had for years.
You might try using a flat black paint on the hardware and use on another project.
Loved this weeks video. Thanks for all the hard work you do for your followers.
You are so welcome!
That's a beautiful piece of furniture now
Great results!❤ You are bound to get a good price for it!
This is fabulous. Sell for at least $100... love the wash and the bleach process, so fabulous!

Thank you! Cheers!
Beautiful 😍 I like the old handles too.
Thank you! I'm so glad you like them!
Looks beautiful. I actually liked it without the doors, updated the look. Well done!
Thank you! 😊
What a beautiful transformation.❤
Thank you so much!
I want to cry. These fads never last. That's a beautiful dresser. I wouldn't do much to it. People will hate these trends in ten years. Whatever makes y'all happy though. I suggest you like what you want, and dodge any trend. Run toward the burning mountain, while rhe world runs away.
Relax, this is furniture refinishing, good grief!
Gorgeous!! I love the hardware 💕
Thank you! 😊
Love love LOVE it, handles and all
The belt sander can be tricky to keep flat and will gouge soft wood like pine easily. So be careful.
The dresser turned out great. I am going to try this on a pine dresser that had me stumped. Hope it comes out as good as yours!
The handles look great
Beautiful work
It looks amazing. The handles look so much better with this color. I’m curious what it would look like with more modern handles?
Good question!
🤩 that’s absolutely beautiful, I love it
Beautiful!!!!!!!!!!
I loved it after it was sanded down. I would have done a light varnish. The natural wood was gorgeous. I also would have cleaned the original hardware and reused. To each his own though. ❤😊
Love the transformation
Wow looks amazing! If the hardware was silver this would be mine! 🙌🏼
Good choice!
That’s what spray paint is for 🙌🏼
Silver rub n buff?
For some reason, I loved the original
Me too, I think it was beautiful and didn't need any makeover at all.
yes, agree, i also love the original and those drawer handles are lovely! Me, too

@theresac.497 and they regret later I love antiques my house has many and I'm keeping them original they are like 70 and or more tears old
Thank you so much for sharing it’s so incredibly helpful 🌸

Looks good with handles plus & I would have liked it without the doors as large item/s would look good in that gap
