Ne Obliviscaris is a pretty good prog death metal band, akin to opeth but heavier on the instrumentation and vocals at times, while lighter in others, often within the same song. the "no prog metal song can be under 10 minutes" joke in this video does apply very heavily to them lol

Ah yes death metal, the genre I've heard the most despite it not being my favorite. My favorite subgenres of it are melodic death metal (my favorite), progressive death metal, technical death metal, death doom and recently I've become big on death thrash lol. I also like old school deathcore too but I feel like deathcore is its own thing
Old school deathcore is having a revival and its really exciting, basically like melo death with breakdowns! Goes so hard

I started with the classics, ghost of perdition and the drapery falls but I just last week decided to listen to all the songs and I LOVE the sorceress album, the wilde flowers, sorceress of course and the jazzy ward, just to name a few bangers I like

Theyve also made one of the most crucial, monumental and poignant albums of the 90s with the self-titled which paints its own unique palette, which is not something you can say about any of Opeth's output.

I think Cattle Decapitation are usually considered Goregrind and not Brutal Death Metal, but whatever. Also, Grindcore is not a subgenre of Death Metal. It's older, arguably.

Whereas deathgrind is faster, more technical and with cleaner production, more like death metal.

A cheap way to identify death thrash is if it is death metal with groove metal influences (not like slam, but rhythmic melo death). Groove metalnis just mid tempo thrash with more syncopation in some ways, give or take.

If you can't hear the bass, it's usually because you are deaf or don't have the slightest clue as to what a bass sounds like. Cannibal Corpse, Dying Fetus, Suffocation, Bloodthrone, Viraemia, Deeds of Flesh, the list goes on, all of these bands have very prevalent bass
