You are like my teacher when it comes to Metal, it is incredible to see how the genre has advanced through the decades proving that it is immortal. I'm going to continue listening to Black Metal because it is what I like to listen to.
Great selection. Dawn - "Slaughtersun..." is one of my favorite albums of the 90's regardless of genre. I always thought Virus West was massively underrated.
Drowning the Light and Caladan Brood made it. Awesome vid. You always make great stuff Also can we all agree Poland is killing the black metal game right now
Cool list. I had to stop the video at the year 2000 and take a look at what else was on there. We diverge on our taste in black metal right at the year 2000. I counted 4 bands on there that I listen to from that point on. I would drop a different band name in every other years slot. The fact that I could have a wildly different list from you and someone else could have a wildly different list from me and you is a real testament to how this genre has evolved and stood the test of time.
One of those better be Taake lol. I really thought they would be featured earlier, but I guess Dødskvod is their most popular album. I feel like Hoest does a great job keeping the spirit of raw black metal alive even though they were late to the game (in terms of official release). 1993 and 1994 I see like a game changing years when melodic, epic and atmospheric elements have been starting appearing in the black metal, albums like Dark Medieval Times, In The Nightside Eclipse or The Somberlain literally started a new era of the atmospheric and melodic black metal, which to a certain extent changed a very aggressive genre into something beautiful, but at the same time kept its dark and haunting essence.
The pieces you picked for the 93-98 era are perfect. - The Somberlain, (one of) the greatest BM melodies ever written, - Inno a Satana, one of the most acclaimed songs in BM history, - Whichever piece from Bergtatt, arguably (to me) the best BM album ever, - Jesus Dod, with the best riff from one of the most acclaimed albums in BM history - Funeral Procession has always defined BM to me. This is what happens when the basics of BM are perfectly executed. - Ride the Wings of Pestilence, from Slaughtersun, one of the most overlooked albums in BM history. A collection of some of the best melodic riffs ever written.
Alter Schwede! Deine zerfetzen ist Hammer! For those who don't know, Nagelfar is essential and thier album 'Hünengrab im Herbst' is one of the greatest Black Metal Albums of all time.
Quite a nice selection, one big issue is that you're totally missing on Orthodox Black Metal, with Deathspell Omega, Funeral Mist, Blut Aus Nord, Antaeus, Watain...
