Tbh if I was a flying infant, and the blasphemous artificial god was about to smash me into a minced meat, I would not give a single damn about anyone's deep mental trauma
"The first to betray me was a God. My creator. *My mother."* That was the line that brought me to tears, and in that moment I was invested in his backstory/lore more than any character. Scaramouche/The Wanderer is a very complex character, and I love him for that. He has a very interesting backstory, the plot, the point of views.. Ei thinks it was a good thing of giving him "freedom" as she didn't want him have the burden of emotions from carrying the Gnosis to not have the same fate as Makoto, but Scaramouche perceived it as betrayal and neglect. He didn't want freedom. He wanted love. And I think we can all agree Nahida's got his back on that :]
She put Scara to eternal sleep in the pavillion. Then he woke up for archobs knows wht. I wouldn't call that "freedom" but Ei wasen't in a stable state of mind during that time.
@@dinoluka11 It wasn’t freedom. She said she didn’t want to interfere is his fate. So she set him in that domain , asleep. A kind of reset if you will . Whatever happened from that point onward , was his fate. And it would have been a happy one but fuck fatui
One thing people seem to miss is the Scaramouche ever since being taken in by the Fatui had been extremely suicidal. He never gave a crap about what happens to himself during the abyss missions, often returning broken to be pieced back by Doctore. During sumeru, he made it clear that he understands that his sentience will be gone when he ascends to godhood and he is completely fine with it. Further more, when he realized he mistakenly killed his friends all those years ago, he immediately resorted to commit suicide in the most spectacular way possible erasing himself from history (attempted). He was truly broken before Nahida took him in.
@@kawaiitsundere6673 I think they mean mistakenly enacted revenge on innocents, Niwa and the others at the forge didn't abandon him after all, as he found out
Just realised that Scaramouche also represents the feeling of being adopted, when your birth parents don’t want you and put you away that leaves scars, deep ones Not feeling “normal” or fitting in pne way or another If you get betrayed again its just opening your scars again Also something that always bothered me is the amount of adoption jokes around this world Its extremely normalised while its a pretty heavy trauma
@@GhostEmblem People telling you that you aren't your parents 'real' child and that any birth children they have will always be more important than you. Sad thing thing is, alot of people don't even say it as jokes, they'll just boldly state that you aren't the person who adopted you's child.
I am adopted and this is so true. But my adopted family abandoned me in the end too. (They were quite old by the time they adopted me and let me know how much they regretted it lol) but it's all about what you make of it. I was bitter for a long time but it was mostly towards myself not the people around me. My sister who was also adopted lashed out at everyone around her unfortunately. I just hope she makes peace with it someday. But fr there are quite a few jokes but they don't bother me as much as some other super bad ones do.
@@euriditia I just wanna say that we are the person we choose to be. And it's always best to be kind to the people close to us. Cheers to you for being a great person and I hope your sister finds her peace too. Also, I hope you dont come across any tasteless jokes about your situation and if ever you do, you still have the same resilience you have now.
Dang, as strange as it is, Scara is the most human out of all the genshin characters to me. No one is perfect, and no one will ever be perfect, we all make mistakes, but we all try our best despite the shit that we go through in our lives. Truly an inspirational chad haha. It really is hard to hate the guy when we're just like him
I used to hate Scaramouche until the 3.3 interlude chapter filled in most of the gaps in his story. It really touched me, as someone who struggles with self-worth. I love complex characters like him, and for the latest development in his tale to be that he's willing to forward WITH his faults makes him one of the best characters in the game for me.
Me too, I still don’t like him and also I’m not a person who gives second chances easily but after the interlude, I decided “I will give you ONE CHANCE” and also I didn’t want to admitted it but I relate to him when it comes to self esteem, feeling bretayed, don’t worry, my family hasn’t betrayed me but they saw how I was betrayed both in school and in University and thought that I was beyond repair, until I call for help, casually 2022 was the year when both Scara and me decided to change.
@ᶜᵒⁿᵗᵃᶜᵗ ᵐᵉ ᵒⁿ ᵗᵉˡᵉᵍʳᵃᵐ 👉 Ashikai 👆👆Wow Congratulations🎊🎊 You have been selected to be reported to the FBI, CIA and the Metropolitan Police Force :D 🚓🚨 see you in jail SCAMMER..👮
The fact that I feel reluctant to watch this video, shows to me how important Scaramouche is to me if a certain thing can make me emotional. His backstory, and his defeat , and then his comeback made me feel something that the previous Archon quests have failed to do.
@@ziephel-6780 it could be because so far, he’s the only character who goes through character development. Most of the other characters are already good and don’t really do any self-reflection or improvement. They never really make mistakes and when they do, it’s brushed off or someone else's fault (mainly a NPC), so while they are still lovable in their own rights, they aren’t really complex. Scaramouche is the only character so far who isn’t liked by anyone, who isn’t a good person, loses something of extreme importance to them and has to own up to their mistakes and change. I believe Childe is the only other character who’s complex and isn’t just another good guy.
In a way, I feel like Nahida finally gave the role he had sought after all his life. It's telling that even after having his memories wiped, the desire to be wanted, to be of use to somebody still remains, like a basic instinct of his. It's probably why he interpreted Ei leaving him in a domain as rejection and the idea that she saw him as worthless. It's kinda like if a parent just drove their kid to a random place and left them there, even if the parent had good intentions, the kid's too young to understand and most likely misinterpret that intention as them being abandoned. That also explains why he's willing to ditch everything the moment he got the gnosis to become a god, seemingly wanting to prove something to Ei. Nahida basically gave him the role he had always desired. He's become her shadow operative, her assistant the same way the Raiden Shogun is to Ei. Given her access to the Irminsul, it's likely intentional too, as if she knew of all of this.
You are right. I'm glad Nahida could give him that chance. But it's sad that he believes he's useless if he cannot have something or do something of value. I believe Nahida wants to take him under her wing, to not only give him a sense of worth, but to hopefully one day help him realize that worth and values is not all that matters in a relationship. It's as she said herself, "a relationship between people is not like a ledger that can be reduced back to zero".Or something like that
broo frr one of my friends had been like ‘why is it a big deal that raiden let him be free’ like hell naaah if you were a small child and your parent just randomly left you somewhere without you knowing why that shit is definitely gonna be traumatising
Ei could literally give him a job or position like Sara and not abandoned him. It would most likely not make him think he is useless, because he got a purpose. Ei has some big faults here. I'm waiting for their interaction in the future.
@@NaviHumi FRRR She could have at least actually protected him or given him to someone like she’s literally the shogun she could have done anything else but she really just went ‘nah imma just let this small child out into the wild’ bruhh
The creators are also huge fans of Evangelion and you can see the references in scaramouche as shinji, dottore as the dad, and the mech suit as the Eva😂
For REAL. Even the underlying theories about Freddie Mercury meaning killing his old self in the line about "Mama, I killed a man, put a gun against his head, pulled my trigger, now he's dead" next to THAT moment, when Scara tells his old self, encapsulated in and culminating in the robot, "Die!"
Ei could literally give him a job or position like Sara and not abandoned him. It would most likely not make him think he is useless, because he got a purpose. Ei has some big faults here. I'm waiting for their interaction in the future.
This video is just inmaculate, Scaramouche's story is seriously one of the best arcs, not just in Genshin Impact, but in the world of videogame characters as a whole. They could've made him just be nice all of a sudden, but he wanted to own up for his mistakes, he wanted to take the responsability, and as you said, that's a very powerful lesson to take in. Personally, I find Scara and a couple of other videogame characters to be my comfort characters, such as Kirby. In a way, I can relate to Scaramouche in the way of thinking you're worth nothing, a thought that I've had a lot of times in the past and has hurt me, so seeing others suffer something similar and overcome it, even if they're not real, makes me feel like I can overcome it too and see worth in myself. Sadly, Scara's story and character is heavily "babied" by the community, reducing him to an edgelord teenager with mommy issues, and making him a one dimensional character, that's really something that annoys me, since they ignore all the character development he had, and I believe the term used for this is "flanderization". This also reminds me of the game Omori, where sometimes the community ignores the powerful message and characters and reduces them to a joke (Like Kel being reduced to be an dense idiot who doesn't take anything seriously) Sorry for my mini-rant, and I appreciate it if you read it all the way to the end. Thank you for making this, happy New Years, and at the time I'm commenting this, happy B-Day to the Wanderer!
This is why I do not associate myself with most fandoms or groups. A fandom's interpretation of a certain character or franchise is usually unreliable.
The worst part is that this “flanderization” isn’t exclusive to Scaramouche. Xiao and Itto get this treatment as well. Xiao gets turned into “An Emo” and Itto gets turned into a complete idiot when they very much aren’t.
not surprised tho, cuz most of them are the type of player that got mad when there is no skip dialog button, but then act like they know and read everything and missed the most important message completely
@@fencerderio9814 Yeah, tbh they deserve better, at this point new players get a wrong idea of the personality and arc of the characters because the fandom makes them flat af
Happy new year to you too!! And right?? You spoke my mind well! I love Kel but I am not a big fan of his fanon version. I'm not really active in the Omori fandom so thankfully I don't get to see much of fanon Kel tho lol. As for Wanderer, oh boy where do I begin? Some view him as the one who Satan even fears while others view him as a baby who doesn't know anything about this world. Like sit down, he's older than both your parent's family sides combined lol. And yes he's done terrible things but that's not what he's all about. He acknowledges he was terrible and is not forgiven. It's like people (unfortunately some of the fans included) forget a big reason why we love him is because he's complex and not one dimensional. I really hate how the fandom mischaracterizes the characters, especially the Harbingers. I really loved his story, at first I had mixed feelings about it (bc of Irminsul) when I finished it but after some thoughts and analyzing it, I made up my mind: it's beautiful. I would continue, but I think Ashikai and your comment are enough.
First, as a lore lover myself I found this summary pretty good. And although I already understood everything it was nice hearing it all in a nice progressive way. At the end of the day whether you like him or not Scaramouche is just an ordinary person just like everybody else. He makes mistakes, he hates, he cries, finds joy in things, and loves. But I think the one main thing that caused a lot of these events to unfold is the fact that he just doesn't value himself. The moment he realized was left behind by his creator that's when his self-esteem immediately went straight through the ground, And as the term, she used "a blank sheet of paper", he knew nothing about the world and was desperate to find a purpose. However, every time he believed he found a purpose it was taken away. Which caused him to think lesser and lesser of himself the longer and the harsher these things he was fulfilling were taken away. I believe that from this point forward the one thing that Scaramouche needs going forward is GUIDANCE, and the fact that Nahida is most likely going to be the one to give him that guidance gives me hope. He has a long way to go but with help from Nahida, us as "the traveler" and many other (good) influential people he can be a better person.
I really really like Scaramouche and I have friends that don't like him, and though there are reasons to not like him, I still can't understand them. as someone that hold grudges myself and have difficulties on finding my path, I can completely understand why he got out of hand. it's not easy to live like that, but he surely can be someone better with time and help from others, as you said. I think ppl should give him a chance, he is complex character and we all know that.
Our vulnerabilities, our flaws, our brokenness, is what makes us human, we are a species of emotion not just logic. That is why scaramouche was not the perfect puppet, he is more human than Ei would've wanted as a vessel for Gnosis
But you can get rid of emotion. In Buddhism there is a state of meditation where there are no thoughts and it is called 'no-mind' state. It feels more ecstatic than s*x according to some practitioners I talked to and I myself felt similar things.
You know, I was taken aback, and honestly put off by how Nahida readily said she could make "use" of Scara, or how he would be a useful tool for her, or however it was worded. But now I think, true to her status as the god of wisdom, that really was the best thing she could have said. He wasn't in any place to hear or believe anything she may have said along the lines of, "hey, you deserve a safe place" or "you have worth" or anything gentle like that. He might believe, though, that an apparently _good_ person might have a use for him. That he could be used for good, that he could start working off some of his sin. And Nahida certainly has the time, however long it takes, until she can say those words to him and have him maybe believe it. This video might actually have made me understand and even - maybe sort of - like Scara. I'm now certainly invested in seeing his growth over the next few years in game. So, thank you :)
Out of all the characters, Scaramouche/Wanderer has one of the deepest and well-written lore to date. It spanned across artifacts, archon quests, events, etc. I am still not a fan of him but piecing bits and pieces of his lore made me understand why he has become that way. Thanks for putting together this video.
This. This is why I get deeply hurt and oftentimes get into an argument with some people who generalizes his character as "annoying", a nuisance, or someone with "mommy issues". I can't tell you how many times I've been told the phrase "he's just pixels why do you care". He has a whole deep and painful backstory behind him yet some people refuse to understand it. I feel so much for him. He's an amazingly written character that tugged on my heartstrings after the Sumeru archon quest. I used to dislike him but after seeing everything and knowing why he's the way he is, the only thing I want to do now is to appreciate him and give him the love and recognition he deserves.
my personal headcannon (that i hold dear to my heart) of wanderer is that during his creation, ei was still too deep in her grief (though she still griefing even to hundreds of years later) and when she tried to create a puppet to become a 'god', she unconsciously projected the god she ever known, the one who is very close to her heart, makoto. maybe in the beginning she thought that inazuma (or herself) need their archon (or maybe since ei and makoto used to always rule together, ei created her other half), but then ei looked away from all what it used to be, wanderer was just as vulnerable as makoto, she didnt use gnosis, and adapt an ideology opposite of what makoto stood for, in a way along with raiden shogun puppet, ei became an electro archon of her own (shutting herself away). when we first shown how wanderer was before his darkening and when we met him as the wanderer without his memories was super interesting to me bcs in terms of personality or mannerism, there wasnt much trace of ei in him, the way he interacted with people and how he emotional is he reminded me of makoto instead, though of course wanderer very has his own personality!!! also the delivery of the video is amazing!!! i got teary eyed at the end and almost cry haha
this is such an amazing theory and I believe it could be actually true! I feel like the event of kabukimono not taking the gnosis is so small yet so important, knowing genshin there always has to be an explanation for the littlest of things, so I think this theory fits perfectly and I think we may get a quest in the future where ei and wanderer meet (?) because wanderer still has one thing that proves his noble birth, that being the golden feather, it might be low chance but honestly it would make sense ignoring the question of why kabuki didn’t take the gnosis
i love how you pointed out at the time of his creation, ei was still in a great grief because of what happened to her sister. i think a lot of people who babied scaramouche forgets that. I dont think anyone who are in a deep grief like that can ever make a normal, correct choice. what ei did was still questionable since she could have just repurpose the puppet but she instead left him slumbered in a a domain until of all fcking ppl, dottore eventually found him and who knows what that crazy doctor has done to his already fragile mind.
@@charliandluca5928 (it's like 3 months late but i hope you don't mind) i believe that too! i think we gonna get a wanderer quest where he will go back to inazuma for closure!!! just like the kazuha situation where he received he introduction in archon quest but later got his own story quest that touched up inazuma lore. my guess its gonna start as a preface of him finishing his thesis or something and then going back to inazuma for his paper, closure and nahida guiding him to be healed lol
@@akarirei yes....when you think abt it wanderer gotta be one of the unluckiest character in genshin, an unstable and unavalaible creator during that time, grief after grief, and then end up with dottore out of everyone(the experiments, abyss, etc.)...imagine if miko got to him first. tho i really like the person wanderer is now, the redemption arc was really good not only to his character but teyvat lore as well, i still like him before sumeru but now its clear this is how his character meant to be
@@withblue_ it’s actually crazy how Ei and Raiden Shogun got the most hate and not really Dottore himself. tbh i kinda hate the way the game panned out when scaramouche deleted himself from the irminsul as we know now it changes nothing in the past. by deleting that portion of data, it’s absolutely impossible to have any meaningful meeting between Ei and Wanderer. I wished she came to know what was the result of her actions and maybe apologize to him at least to give some kind of closure and end all of the misunderstanding at once. in Scaramouche’s point of view it was a pure evil, painful abandonment but can we say the same for Ei’s? And i’m not sure the word born and mother is applicable to their relationship. he is a puppet, created by Ei. Ei was the creator of the puppet. I know in the Genshin video Scaramouche referred to her as mother but like huh? Like the story of coppelia, it’s weird to call dr coppelius as her father because at the end of the he didn’t “gave birth” to her. I apologize for the rant here, just wanna share my a bit of my thoughts here
The narration, the delivery, the ending. This is literally one of the best videos on UA-cam. You did amazing!! Also, Happy new year everybody✨ Make it the best you can~
"his existence has left a permanent mark on the world regardless of whether anyone remembered him or not" is such a raw line that I hope anyone that reads this and felt like they had achieved nothing and everything they do is worthless realized that maybe it means nothing to you but your action and existence has made a mark on this world
One of the best character development and story ngl..I cried, I laughed and i hated him and loved him. Just amazing..I will always salute to hoyo for making such a character with so so SOOO much backstory to them
I can confidently say that WANDERER has the BEST character story in the entire genshin excluding TRAVELER and ARCHONS of course. we got to know everything about him everything from beginning . he is the only character who has the highest impact on 2 REGIONS and the only vision ceremony we witnessed in cutscenes this itself says how important he is in the story . THE BEST WRITTEN CHARACTER in the whole game . hope we get to know more and more about him . RESPECT and LOVE to the peak .
I’m a person who despises villains until they have a sad backstory. Scaramouche is definitely no exception. His lore (backstory) has the best backstory I’ve ever heard. If not, one of the most.
My ex gf of ~2 years broke up with me over the holidays, saying she just lost interest. I've never felt so unwanted and unloved in my life, and I felt like a bag of trash just tossed away. So Wanderer's story hits kinda close to home right now lol but yeah, everyone deserves to feel wanted and happy. Treat people like what they are, people. I think Scaras story is so intriguing because it feels so real--who could blame him for his hatred and grievances? I know it's cliche, but it's about carrying the weights burdening us and moving forward in spite of how much they hold us down.
Not me crying over our favorite resident gremlin. Beautiful story break down Ashikai. Thank you for all the fun videos and streams so far and I look forward to what comes next. I hope the new year brings many joys and successes to you and everyone in this community.
I relate to the Wanderer. He derives his self worth from those around him and how they treat and use him. He throws himself at whatever he can to make him feel like he’s worth something, to feel loved and needed. I myself have done this as well, and though people pleasing inherently means you want people to be happy, it can also make you blind to how steep the price of that happiness might be and how much harm can be caused in pursuit of that happiness. Self worth can absolutely destroy someone, especially if they are repeatedly told they are not enough.
I did not expect to be so emotionally moved by this video. Scaramouche's story truly is a tragic yet beautiful one with a meaningful message and you illustrated that perfectly in this video Ashikai! Thank you for the amazing new video, oh and Happy New Year!! :D
I used to hate him for no reason just because all was hate him too, but after this scaramouche is deserved to be loved and appreciated, from now on he is my role model 💗.
Learning Scaramouche experiences makes me cry, all his life he was used by the wrong people, and the only memories he have of people who truly valued and loved him are tarnished by these wrong people. I hope we can become a true friend that will cherish him, I hope we become his family too
Aww I already know what his whole story is but Idk why am I sobbing all over againnn 😭😭 perhaps it's because of your amazing storytelling delivery Ashikai!! This video really helped me even better understand his whole character background. Tysm for making this video!! 💖
scaramouche's story will forever be one of my most favorite ones from genshin and honestly, it's probably theirs too lmao. there was so much care and detail put into his story and development and it culminated so well in his interlude quest. i love his story and i love how you've told it here. your ending words surprisingly made me tear up too. thank you for yet another great video, i hope your 2023 can also be one of growth and acceptance
Words can't describe how much I relate to this "heartless", mechanical puppet. The way I became when my father passed away two years ago. I used to hope, but I took solace in nihilism. It stayed that way until I got married and then after going through a lot of pain, I was able to hope again and move forward. I always thought what the purpose to my existence was. Well, now I have a purpose. And I never would have thought when I started this game that a short emo character with a weird hat was who I would relate to most of all. Thank you Ashikai for the apt summary of our beloved gremlin. I look forward to his future arcs. And wish you and everyone a happy new year!
I’m probably going to keep watching this video over and over again. As someone with bpd I heavily related to Wanderer. And after his redemption I just like him even more. I think this is the experience of a lot of people with bpd. Feeling betrayed. Learning that it was false. And working to better yourself.
Indeed. I have a friend who has BPD, but I'm forced by my grandfather to stay away from her due of being "dangerous". And I'm ill-equipped to deal with her episodes so I need to let her go despite the fact that I care for her. Hope she's doing well, wherever she is now...
Here to revist this video since today is his birthday. His lore still shakes me deeply to this day and I'm grateful that hoyo gave him one of the most detailed and well-written backstories.
Thank you for making this! Wanderer is such a beautiful character, both in lore and in gameplay. Excited to see more of his interactions in the storyline in the future!
I think we can all agree that Scaramouche is definitely one, if not, the best well-written character in the game. All the build up spanned many version updates, from earlier events, artifacts to archon quests. It felt like we were on a roller coaster of emotions and information about him. It’s such a shame that some people just tend to still reduce him into one stereotype, when in fact his whole character is actually much deeper than that. Great video!
This is the first video I saw from Ashikai, and the one that caused me to subscribe almost immediately. It's so heart-warming to see so much love in the comments for Scara (Wanderer, Kabukimono, Balladeer, all of him) compared to all the hate in the Chinese Genshin community. I first got into Genshin's storylines and lore because of Scara while I was still in China, first because of his looks and personality, but then I completely fell in love with him when I knew more about his story. Then around the one month mark I stumbled across a video on Douyin (Chinese Tiktok) about how he/she hated Wanderer. I was confused, heart-broken, even a little bit angry. I knew I had to find out more in order to defend Scara fairly. So for a few weeks I went through all the hate comments and blogs I can find, some "logical" some completely outrageous. Here are some most common points: 1. His personality after he regained his family This is a very controversial one, you either hated his personality or loved it. Now if you just hated him for his insults, I completely understand. But alot of people argued that Kabukimono + Scaramouche should equal Wanderer, a brand new personality, not just Scaramouche's personality. I obviously love him for his Kabukimono personality and Scaramouche personality, but I would argue that Wanderer is different than the Balladeer. The Balladeer was completely ruthless, as said by himself: (rough translation) "Abandoning the worthless emotions of humans," while it was made obvious in the Simulanka quest that although he's still insulting us, he genuinely cared for Durin and had "human emotions" despite "not having a heart." This makes him very VERY human and you can't help but love him. 2. A sad backstory is not the reason for all his slaughter Okay, some other Scara fans in China would argue about how the people he killed are not exactly good people, but I think that response is a little bit too... I don't know, it feel forced, and even if those people were evil in some sort, it still doesn't deny the fact that the Balladeer DID kill alot of people. I, instead, usually respond with: You're right, a sad backstory IS NOT the reason for slaughter, however, at the time he was influenced by Dottore and the rest of the Fatui members, and was also partially forced by his duty as a Harbinger. Now this leads to my next point. 3. He didn't do anything to payback for his own actions. This is probably the most common one. Alot of people that doesn't actually understand the storyline after watching some videos purposefully hating on Scara would think that Scaramouche erased himself from history using the Irminsul was a way to escape his crimes. This, is you actually went through the quest, is untrue, of course. Scara, a person who wished he was never born, thought that maybe, if he never existed, maybe all those people he brought suffering to would come back, that everything would be happy again. But the only thing is, he didn't succeed. The bravery it took to charge into the Irminsul, to face the unknown fate of not only death, but complete nonexistence (even if it failed) is atleast, ATLEAST admirable. In regards to his actions as Wanderer, technically, in the rules of Tevyat, Wanderer is now innocent of his past crimes. (In the rules of Tevyat, not the real world ofc) And I would understand all the hate if Genshin just let him remain as the polite, naive personality of the Kabukimono, after all, then he would have actually done NOTHING to pay for his crimes (at least for Wanderer, his new identity) But he was brave enough to take back his memories, to place the burden onto his shoulders again, even when he knew how evil his past was, even when he could have just lived a peaceful life. Finally, alot of haters argue that Wanderer didn't take actions, even when he said he would, to apologize for his past. I would agree with this, however, this I think, is not the character Wanderer's fault, it's honestly Genshin's mistake. Even if Mihoyo made one clip scene showing him apologizing to Kazuha, Ayaka, etc. etc. and maybe get stabbed by someone in a fit of fury like he himself suggested, Scara wouldn't have so many haters in China. You already spent so much time on him, why can't you just plan one more cutscene? Anyways, if you're reading this, WOW, thank you. Thank you for reading this small "essay." The Chinese Genshin community is awesome, really, but the amount of random hate for almost all the characters is ridiculous, especially for Wanderer. It make me so happy that I can go out in public saying "Scara is the best," without having to worry about random strangers bullying me. It make me so happy to be able to wear his merch in public without people looking at me with disapproval, or even disgust. It makes me so happy to see shorts without pictures of Scara bleeding. It makes me so happy to see Scara being loved by so many people.
Welp, I've cried ugly tears now. Thank you Ashika for your wise words and making me weep thoroughly. Wanderer's/Scaramouche's story really is a fantastic one, and damn does it make me love him so much. As someone who has dealt with serious emotional trauma (some very relatable to Wanderer's) and who has struggled with self worth because of those trauma: it hit home to watch his story play out. I really can't wait for more and to see what awaits Wanderer on his journey forward, with the Traveller (aka us, the players) and Nahida by his side 💙💙💙
This absolutely showed how much you love Scaramouche as a character and honestly this video made me wanna cry like 3 times over the course of it, a wonderfully done video Ashikai, this to date is my favorite video you have ever made. Happy New Year and I hope your 2023 is the best you can make it. ^_^
Such a well written character that took the cliched "the world and life made him a villain" to a whole new level, after all his wrong doings and misconceptions he chose to walk a different path with the blessing of a god that gave him purpose, basically what he needed at the very start of his life, just the mere fact that he was willing to erase himself so that the people he wronged would have a new chance at life tells a lot about his real personality behind all the snark and tough exterior, I really hope we see more of his current self.
more people from the fandom should watch this video, you summarised his story perfectly! i've seen a lot of people saying hyv fucked up his lore with this ending but i think they did extremely well. he's the perfect example of someone who turned evil because of what happened to him. he never wanted to turn out this way but he did because of the constant betrayal and abandonment he faced in his early years. he knows that doesn't excuse his actions, his past will always be part of him, but now he realised that there's still a place for him to do better.
14:01 love how Nahida ripped of his heart and crushed his dreams, went back to the Traveler and was like "okay we are done here let's go my meet Mommy"
His story always made me emotional because of how tragic and powerful it is. It's a shame that a ton of people misinterpret the events, so I'm glad you made this video
"They can take your world. They can take your heart. Cut you loose from all you know. But if it's your fate...then every step forward will always be a step closer to home." - Sora "May your heart be your guiding key" - Anonymous Proverb
It’s like what I always ALWAYS say! The most meanest of characters have the most tragic (and deeply relatable) backstories, and after knowing their background, you just wanna give them a big ol’ hug!
Maybe this wasn't the video you were planning to make, but it was a fantastic result. Maybe even better than what you wanted. What's matter is that you made a choice, and made it amazing.
you spoke so softly through this whole video and it gave me euphoria i didnt knew i needed, Ashikai , you gave to us so much wisdom and beauty, but nothing can compare to your bond with scara, since the start you always cover his journey , even predicted him be having an anemo boy , you aunderstand him ins such profound way~ the way you started this video with Kazuha voicelines from the irodori festival just made my heart bloom , thank you for this beautiful video on his birthday~~ you DESERVED this c6 scara , the way he came home back to back to back ~! i know you gonna have incredible 2023 cause you are a hard worker queen and you are such a gift to us , thank you for evetyhing
Thank you Ashikai! Wish you a peaceful and happy new year! I love Scara's story, he is still on his journey of understanding himself and what it means to be human. The anemo vision manifestation at the moment when he reconnected to his past self and reached for the light, was such a powerful moment.
Ayo, while I had expected a theory video, this is, well, pretty damn good! I guess this is the part where you were struggling to decide whether to have it be separate videos or combined into one video. While my care for Scara might only be on the level of the traveler (the "I'm watching you, be better and we're cool"), seeing the comments, Scara-stans seem to really love this video, and I can respect that. Also, watching this vid really has the atmosphere of listening to a proud mom talking about her son XD
I literally cried, the way you narrated his story touched my heart and it shatters me more, I guess in a great way I would full-heartedly accept. Keep up the good work!
I can not say anything.. Incredible. JUST INCREDIBLE. I've never saw such character development like this. And that was a beautiful way of telling a story.
At first I'm not really interested on Scara but the more I dwell on his story it made me realize how humane his depiction on the game is. I really love his realistic attitude towards others and how he would love to change things because he knew he caused that problems albeit with the help of that doctor.
19:21 this is the first time I understood what he said here. He’s basically for once taking some sense of self worth by declaring that he is not worthless dross and he is worthy of being saved.
I loved this new style of video, you did an amazing job showing scaramouche's arc and characterization. Hope you make more analysis videos like this and the Xiao one in the future
The cutscene when he receives the vision still gives me chills, thanks for giving light to that pulling in the dark scene, kinda confused before I never thought it's "acceptance" phase of his life...💕💕
Gee, Scaramouches' story was quite a lot wasn't it. Despite having listened to and watched this part of the archon quests a number of times, I almost don't mind rewatching lol. Thank you for this nicely done video
THIS! Ashikai has outdone herself. This interpretation of available lore is magnificent. Bitter yet heartwarming like a fine tea well prepared and served with care. Happy New Year Ashikai! Happy Birthday Wanderer and Scara-nation!
I love the way you ended this video. Your original Scaramouche analysis was what made me love this character, and this video just solidified that. Thank you for the wonderful storytelling and content. 😭
As someone trying to accept myself and trying to move forward with all my flaws, this video came at the right time. I’ve always liked scaramouch because of his weird edgelord complex in the beginning but after his whole story was revealed to me, he was elevated to the characters I find will be part of my heart forever. I have always strive to be better after my downfall with depression causing me to be violent with my family and lose compassion. I remember and am always reminded of the days when I was a so much cheerful person. The thing is I remember being insecure back then too. High school just made it worse. I’d comfort myself by watching cheery shojou girls being cheerful and striving to be like them. What I really needed was a character that showed all the flaws but at the same time acknowledges their path to betterment won’t always be perfect. Every year I will go back and watch this, to be reminded to not give up. No matter if nobody is striving for you.
I just replayed this quest on my secondary account today specifically so I could name him on his birthday. So watching your summary and rant was the perfect way to wrap up his story. Thank you, this was lovely and it made me cry a little. Scara's evolution is so damn interesting also because of the way it grew into the game and the story. He went from a cameo on a timegated event that most players missed, to part of crazy lore theories before 3.1 like the Pale Flame set one and having a relation to the electro archon (which were correct!), to the big reveals in the Inazuma archon quest, to more lore crumbs thanks to the Husk of Opulent Dreams set and then the Irodori Festival, to finally the 4-act ride that was Sumeru archon quest and interlude. He used to be the "shows up for 5 minutes, says/does something creepy, doesn't elaborate, leaves" gremlin and now, he's one of Genshin's most elaborate and layered characters. Truly our little meow meow
This is a beautiful narration of his life. A top-tier analysis, right next to the video about Xiao and the Perilous Trail quest. Thank you for all the content you make, I hope you have a fulfilling 2023!
Scaramouche is my ultimate favorite Genshin character, his backstory is the most heartwrenching one imho. P.S. Scaramouche's story proves that Dottore is extremely evil and deserves to die instead of being playable like Rosaria.

"The first to betray me was a God. My creator. *My mother."*
That was the line that brought me to tears, and in that moment I was invested in his backstory/lore more than any character.

I need diluc, collei and scara to jump him
One thing people seem to miss is the Scaramouche ever since being taken in by the Fatui had been extremely suicidal.

Just realised that Scaramouche also represents the feeling of being adopted, when your birth parents don’t want you and put you away that leaves scars, deep ones
Not feeling “normal” or fitting in pne way or another
If you get betrayed again its just opening your scars again
Also something that always bothered me is the amount of adoption jokes around this world
Its extremely normalised while its a pretty heavy trauma
Adoption jokes? could you give some examples?

Dang, as strange as it is, Scara is the most human out of all the genshin characters to me. No one is perfect, and no one will ever be perfect, we all make mistakes, but we all try our best despite the shit that we go through in our lives. Truly an inspirational chad haha.
Scara was a good villain imo.
sameeeee, I love scara now to the point of pulling him, but I need to get Yelan first, and followed by Klee and Him
Me too, I still don’t like him and also I’m not a person who gives second chances easily but after the interlude, I decided “I will give you ONE CHANCE” and also I didn’t want to admitted it but I relate to him when it comes to self esteem, feeling bretayed, don’t worry, my family hasn’t betrayed me but they saw how I was betrayed both in school and in University and thought that I was beyond repair, until I call for help, casually 2022 was the year when both Scara and me decided to change.
Scaramouche was a good Villain and Wanderer has to be protected.

This also reminds me of the game Omori, where sometimes the community ignores the powerful message and characters and reduces them to a joke (Like Kel being reduced to be an dense idiot who doesn't take anything seriously)
Sorry for my mini-rant, and I appreciate it if you read it all the way to the end.
I heavily agree with this, i wish i can like it twice

Not me crying over our favorite resident gremlin. Beautiful story break down Ashikai. Thank you for all the fun videos and streams so far and I look forward to what comes next. I hope the new year brings many joys and successes to you and everyone in this community.
Ur crying over pixels?!?!?
I used to hate him for no reason just because all was hate him too, but after this scaramouche is deserved to be loved and appreciated, from now on he is my role model 💗.
you’re ridiculous everyone who acts that way usually has a similar backstory
Learning Scaramouche experiences makes me cry, all his life he was used by the wrong people, and the only memories he have of people who truly valued and loved him are tarnished by these wrong people. I hope we can become a true friend that will cherish him, I hope we become his family too
Ei: “…I do not wish to assert control over him…”
Also Ei: proclaims Vision Hunt Decree and Sakoku Decree
I if we're big Honest no 1 really gave a shit about Sakoku Decree That much otherwise there will be a war fought over it🤷🏾♂️
im gonna cry entire vid i was just covering my mouth in complete shock as i understood more his past omg, he deserves better.
Aww I already know what his whole story is but Idk why am I sobbing all over againnn 😭😭 perhaps it's because of your amazing storytelling delivery Ashikai!! This video really helped me even better understand his whole character background. Tysm for making this video!! 💖
Yes yes my babygirl's lore!!
He’s a male puppet…don’t misgender him!
@@drea4pres970 being one's babygirl transcends gender uwu
he's more of a meow meow imo 😌✨

scaramouche's story will forever be one of my most favorite ones from genshin and honestly, it's probably theirs too lmao. there was so much care and detail put into his story and development and it culminated so well in his interlude quest. i love his story and i love how you've told it here. your ending words surprisingly made me tear up too. thank you for yet another great video, i hope your 2023 can also be one of growth and acceptance
@ashikal I know you're not Ashikai. Stop the spam you bot.
I’m probably going to keep watching this video over and over again.
As someone with bpd I heavily related to Wanderer. And after his redemption I just like him even more.
I think this is the experience of a lot of people with bpd. Feeling betrayed. Learning that it was false. And working to better yourself.
couldnt have said better
you get it...
THIS!! I couldn’t help but think throughout his entire story that it was exactly how bpd is
Indeed. I have a friend who has BPD, but I'm forced by my grandfather to stay away from her due of being "dangerous". And I'm ill-equipped to deal with her episodes so I need to let her go despite the fact that I care for her. Hope she's doing well, wherever she is now...
Duuude he’s that old?! I knew he was in the hundreds but that’s crazy! Also he just needs some love. We all need to love him.
Here are some most common points:
1. His personality after he regained his family
This is a very controversial one, you either hated his personality or loved it.
2. A sad backstory is not the reason for all his slaughter
Okay, some other Scara fans in China would argue about how the people he killed are not exactly good people, but I think that response is a little bit too...
I really can't wait for more and to see what awaits Wanderer on his journey forward, with the Traveller (aka us, the players) and Nahida by his side 💙💙💙
his story always makes me cry, im literally crying rn😢😢
Scara really hit that “I art thou, thou art I” type shit.
more people from the fandom should watch this video, you summarised his story perfectly! i've seen a lot of people saying hyv fucked up his lore with this ending but i think they did extremely well. he's the perfect example of someone who turned evil because of what happened to him. he never wanted to turn out this way but he did because of the constant betrayal and abandonment he faced in his early years. he knows that doesn't excuse his actions, his past will always be part of him, but now he realised that there's still a place for him to do better.
scara has the best lore in the entire game
14:01 love how Nahida ripped of his heart and crushed his dreams, went back to the Traveler and was like "okay we are done here let's go my meet Mommy"
Okay i want to hug him now.
Scaramouch has the BEST character history of this game
Lots of them have tragic back story but Scara's the saddest for me as it resonates with mine.
His story always made me emotional because of how tragic and powerful it is. It's a shame that a ton of people misinterpret the events, so I'm glad you made this video
bruhh im crying and yeah i love how you come out with the whole lesson point, it is truly the best path that genshin took to write his story
"They can take your world. They can take your heart. Cut you loose from all you know. But if it's your fate...then every step forward will always be a step closer to home." - Sora
"May your heart be your guiding key" - Anonymous Proverb
Everytime that i see something related to his backstory, i cry sm, if im just trying to explore tatarasuna i will already feel tge tears in my eyes😭
Honestly tho 😕 I hate bringing my Scara to inazuma so I do my commissions and stuff anywhere else 😭
It’s like what I always ALWAYS say!
The most meanest of characters have the most tragic (and deeply relatable) backstories, and after knowing their background, you just wanna give them a big ol’ hug!
The way a tear went down my cheek
These shots at the beginning with Kazuha's words just broke my heart. Good job. 💔
This brought tears to my eyes
Me before:Enemy bad sice they're born/create
Me after:Knowing the backstorys of the Enemy😔😢😓💔
Maybe this wasn't the video you were planning to make, but it was a fantastic result. Maybe even better than what you wanted. What's matter is that you made a choice, and made it amazing.
Scaramouche is my favourite character
this was beautifully narrated and edited.
you spoke so softly through this whole video and it gave me euphoria i didnt knew i needed, Ashikai , you gave to us so much wisdom and beauty, but nothing can compare to your bond with scara, since the start you always cover his journey , even predicted him be having an anemo boy , you aunderstand him ins such profound way~ the way you started this video with Kazuha voicelines from the irodori festival just made my heart bloom , thank you for this beautiful video on his birthday~~ you DESERVED this c6 scara , the way he came home back to back to back ~!
i know you gonna have incredible 2023 cause you are a hard worker queen and you are such a gift to us , thank you for evetyhing
Thank you Ashikai! Wish you a peaceful and happy new year! I love Scara's story, he is still on his journey of understanding himself and what it means to be human. The anemo vision manifestation at the moment when he reconnected to his past self and reached for the light, was such a powerful moment.
I knew all of this yet almost cried again especially when you talked about dottore experimenting on him 😭😭😭😭😭
I feel like his story is underrated by many.
The fact that this video is posted on my birthday is such a blessing!
Wait...
Damn, I couldn't have imagined a better tribute to Scaramouche. He's such a tragic character.
Great job, Ashikai!
"so nahida gave him a reason" im so happy for wanderer to have a new life with the help from nahida
He never wanted to be a bad guy he just wanted to feel wanted and he didn't know the full truth omg I just wanna hug him 😭😭
Ayo, while I had expected a theory video, this is, well, pretty damn good!
I guess this is the part where you were struggling to decide whether to have it be separate videos or combined into one video.
While my care for Scara might only be on the level of the traveler (the "I'm watching you, be better and we're cool"), seeing the comments, Scara-stans seem to really love this video, and I can respect that.
Also, watching this vid really has the atmosphere of listening to a proud mom talking about her son XD
if you're refering to her c6 scara well then she's a better mom than ei that's for sure
Released the video on his birthday too, smooth! X3 Happy birthday Scaramouche!
thank you for making this video. it all makes sense now, its good to hear an explanation about him because its so confusing!
The cutscene when he receives the vision still gives me chills, thanks for giving light to that pulling in the dark scene, kinda confused before I never thought it's "acceptance" phase of his life...💕💕
Scaramouche really had more character developtment than half the characters 💀💀
Gee, Scaramouches' story was quite a lot wasn't it. Despite having listened to and watched this part of the archon quests a number of times, I almost don't mind rewatching lol. Thank you for this nicely done video
THIS!
Ashikai has outdone herself. This interpretation of available lore is magnificent. Bitter yet heartwarming like a fine tea well prepared and served with care.
Happy New Year Ashikai!
Happy Birthday Wanderer and Scara-nation!
Thank you so much for this, love the way you tell the story too!
The narration, the plot-explanation, the background music and everything in this video was epic!
Loved it!
May you have an Amazing 2023!!
this whole video is a therapy session
Scara isn’t my favorite character (personality wise) but goddam is his lore and character overall so good
I sware to fkin god hoyo makes the best stories and this was a no exception. Also, very well done recap of scara. Good job Ashikai 👌
HAPPY BIRTHDAY WANDERER!! (it's still his birthday in my timezone)
or beloved Kawanami in my playthrough
