No matter who wins in your opinion, I gotta say that all of the VAs were able to convey how they thought Scara would react in this situation. Disbelief, anger, grief, bargaining… All of this boils down to a very nuanced character that we can finally meet properly in the future: Someone who went through the 5 stages of grief but is currently stuck on the last step “Acceptance”

Here’s an in-depth analysis of each of the voices and the different emotions they bring out, for those who care: -The EN voice- 0:07 His expression of anger is very explicit in the first few lines, and he appears to be on the verge of exploding into an impulsive act (like aggravated assault). The breaths he takes seem to convey that he is seething with rage. 0:41 Unlike the other voices, he pleads with his listeners almost as though they were his equal and will have an understanding of his motives (while in other voices there is more panic in his voice, and he treats the listener as an opponent that he is losing to). 0:54 He appears to be more desperate than angry in his delivery of “Don’t even try”. 0:58 There is denial, reluctance, and fear conveyed with undertones of anger and frustration in his “I’ll never go back” lines, which indicates that there is a level of subconscious acknowledgement of his fate compared to the other voices. It almost sounds as though deep down he already knows that his struggles will end in vain (hence the denial). 1:03 His final gasp marks the moment his fears are confirmed. Compared to the other voices, it is the one that conveys the most fear. -The JP voice- 1:25 The anger conveyed here is also very intense, equal in levels of explicitness compared to EN, but more unhinged in manner. 1:51 The gasp when Nahida reaches for his gnosis conveys mostly disbelief, unlike the other voices. It speaks to the inflated arrogance that made him unable to predict or even see this outcome as a possibility. 1:57 He appears to continue to be in disbelief, as expressed by that initial whimper. He then proceeds to lose control in a fit of desperation, sounding extremely distressed. His voice is consistently cracking, further emphasizing on that unhinged feeling. 2:14 He seems to be announcing this, as though renouncing the world for being the reason for all his suffering. 2:23 His gasp here appears to convey more shock than anything, and even as he’s falling, it seems as though he is still in the midst of processing everything that just happened. This gasp conveys more shock compared to EN and CN, and less so of fear or desperation, as well as the least degree of acceptance. -The CN voice- 2:41 In the beginning, the expression of anger is much more restrained. There is humiliation from the loss of being in a vulnerable position after defeat and anger from being once again let down by humanity. The breath he exhales after his “humans” line conveys this anger and 不甘心 (indignant unwillingness to accept his loss). There is not much explicit expression of pain compared to the other voices, as he appears to be more consumed by anger (and pride to express the pain he is in). 3:07 The gasp when Nahida begins to take his gnosis conveys an initial realization that something he fears is going to happen, a mix of that “oh no” feeling, more so than disbelief. 3:14 In the lines where he attempts to reach for the gnosis, the strongest emotion conveyed here is desperation, with strong hints of panic. 3:26 Then, he transitions to anger in “That’s mine”, the type of anger derived from a state of knowing that one is completely powerless against another opponent or entity. His transition from pure desperation to anger is also his last attempt at trying to gain control over the situation. The raw emotion in “Don’t even try” most strongly conveys desperation at its peak mixed in with anger that is brought on by feelings of helplessness when he realizes he has truly lost. 3:30 Again, there is a sense of desperation weaved into the delivery of his “I’ll never go back” lines, along with fear, recollection of pain, and panic. The yelling itself is almost like an attempt to reach his opponent and miraculously make them reconsider their decision. To add to this, in Mandarin, he’s actually saying something along the lines of “I can’t ever go back again,” further conveying the desperation. 3:35 His last gasp reveals the moment desolation hits him from the final realization. -The KR voice- 3:57 Very similar to the JP voice in terms of the extent to which there is a sense of him losing control. The JP voice, though, seems to express more moments of restraint than the KR one, and the KR voice sounds more vehemently indignant and hurt than the JP one. 4:23 Similar to the CN voice in terms of conveying the instance of the “oh no” realization, but to a more dire degree. 4:30 The desperation in these lines is very strongly expressed, much like the CN voice, but there is also a lot more panic and distress, and the yelling makes it sound similar to the JP voice, except the yelling feels even more unhinged. 4:47 The raw delivery of this line sounds like a mixture of desperation, renunciation of his past, unwillingness to admit his defeat, and fear of the pain he once endured. 4:51 This gasp is the one that conveys the most shock out of all the voices. An extra note on the CN voice, because it is the voiceover I play in, so it is the one that I can speak the most about. Throughout the story, Scaramouche’s voice is very melodious and doesn’t have too much explicit expression of anger (like the EN and JP ones). Anger is felt instead through the eerie contrast between the soothing melodious timbre of his voice and the threatening aura of his words. He always uses an amused tone to mask his pain and anger, and the only times his voice betrays these emotions are through subtle changes in the inflection of his voice. That’s why to see him not only display such a vulnerable side of him when he desperately reaches for the gnosis, but also to hear that raw delivery of the “Don’t even try” line caught me completely off-guard and was suddenly heart-wrenching. At that moment, he appeared to me as a child who was just desperate for the world to not let him down again. A child who did not know how to escape from his own self-sabotaging behaviors. Such a well-written scene for such a tragic character. This is of course all just my interpretation, feel free to agree, disagree, or add to any part of it. And since I only speak two of the languages here, the other two voices may not have impacted me the same way it would impact native speakers.
this is exactly what i've observed thru all the voiceovers & what i was waiting for someone to point out! when you're a native speaker of either of these languages you're able to look into the emotions behind the lines more efficiently bc you're familiar w/ the dialects, tones so on. All the VA's were just gorgeous, the lore team knew what they were doing when they scripted this. To make us be able to feel even the slightest of pity or understanding for someone who was trying to kill us a few moments ago is p cool, the traveller's expression conveyed that i feel. you're so right, he's such a well written character. Scara's appearance is young, & we were shown just how "young" he truly is when he cried out begging for the gnosis that was supposedly meant for him. Just eager for that purpose which he finally achieved just to be robbed again. Also, when he fell, before losing consciousness his first expression to me denoted him still processing the event in pure shock, but moments before hitting the ground & his eyes dulling out he might have realised smth like "so it ended like this again, huh." His expression is solemn & sad. Your interpretations of each of the VA's were interesting, & to me accurate. Sorry if this is too long to read, but i just love when i see others reading into the details behind the scenes too :D
You summed it up rlly well for me, especially for the CN dub since I also play on it…I think you’ve perfectly described why I strangely felt so saddened during this scene. His CN voice has a sort of soothing yet dangerous tone to it, and it’s always under composure, yet to hear him lose it in this moment, really just showed the gravity of his desperation in that moment, all his pain and past rushing out through his shattered composure. To hear such anger and sadness was enough to make me tear up ngl. Damn mihoyo, first you make me sad over honkai’s villain and now this.
Kudos to Patrick Pedraza, Tetsuya Kakihara, Luyin and Min-Seong Woo for the epic voice performance as Scaramouche. All of his voice actors have nailed the character flawlessly through his fear, anger, hatred and suffering.
the english and korean really captured the emotion well. english represented scara’s self loathing, regret, and pain so well. the korean version showed his despair, panic, and disbelief.
EN and KR version is somewhat depicts his mixed anger, struggle and yearning for the gnosis while CN and JP are more showing scaramouche desperation and anger and somewhat like begging for mercy which tends to sounds more sad. Overall, all the VA did a good job!
All of them are so, so good. The voice crack at the end of the Korean one, though… It’s perfect. Each one delivered so much emotion. I’ve listened to them over and over just because they all did such an amazing job.
the korean VA.... it's like a kdrama line! the emotions, and the fact that i understand the line cuz of commonly used words in kdrama. Ooooff, I love it!
I'm a Korean. I use a translator to convey my words, but the fact that you love Korean voice actors is nothing short of grateful to me. I feel that all the voice actors did a good job, and I can feel the emotions and rage. All the voice actors work hard to make the game, and I want people to love it. All voice actors fighting!
That's right. Every dub are voiced in their own uniqueness. I can't find myself loving one better than the others because they're all equally so great.
I legit cannot decide who did it better as each VA put the perfect amount of pure pain and desperation in his voice. But with the Korean one? The voice crack at the end was PERFECT. It completely summed up the utter grief and hurt in Scaramouche. That's what's so interesting about Scaramouche - he hates humans, yet he's very human himself. He feels pain and defeat, just like we do. The lore behind him is so interesting and complex. I cannot wait to pull for him frfrrr edit: YALL I GOT HIM AT 35 PITY IM SO HAPPYHDJSBDJD

I'm not s Scara simp but damn this scene got me all emotional. I really appreciate his character and don't understand the haters who call him "edgy brat". His character is so complex and he has such a cool backstory. Can't wait to roll for him
I don't get why people feel the need to discredit any of them! I adore the En and CN for scara and still really like KR and JP. The changeover with anger and frustration with CN is amazing and ENs realisation that he's lost really shakes me I've always loved all of the vas for him and I really don't like this pick and choose mentality like sure we can have our preferences but saying one over the other in "performance" isn't fair because I think it affects people differently depending on a lot of factors.
I like Cn En the most and I don't like JP, since for me it's lack sadness and too much anger, but I comment only that I like Cn En the most I do bring JP up when someone discredit En first😅 'm offended
@@Insertregret Wym no it doesn’t? People have different preferences and there’s nothing wrong with that. If that’s what they heard then that’s for them personally. Japanese is my favorite. Not just because it's a strong vocal performance but because of all the little sounds he makes. It first conveys his anger, which naturally turns to fear and uncertainty, and then to desperation as he falls apart. The little gasps and trembles really make it sound so real. I'm so impressed by it and it really got me hit in the feels.
Yeah! Also you can only hear ‘ALALA’ vibes in Japanese! It sounds kinda cute and scary at the same time but still makes him SPECIAL from another languages🤌🏻✨

I actually like the English and Korean versions the best. Both did really great at just conveying a sense of desperation. Edit: after a rewatch I actually prefer the Chinese over the English with Korean being number 1, still very close and amazing performance all around.
It’s so cool how all of the Scaramouche VAs have a “youthful yet deep” voice, which is perfect for his somewhat immature but grieving character. All the performances were A+
Korean actually won this one for me as it seemed to best fit Scaramouche's character overall. English: betrayed. Japanese: most desperate. Chinese: scared and angriest. Korean: threatening. English was my favorite voice tho.

Losing the gnosis for Scaramouche is like losing his heart, given that's the reason he was created in the first place, and every voice actor nailed that feeling perfectly.
My take is English did a good job portraying his utter fear of the moment, along with his weakened state. Japanese did a good job portraying his desperation, and Chinese displayed his sadness and exhaustion. Korean does a good job with his anger and pain. Especially the pain part.
The shouting in the korean version sounds so natural with his voice breaking almost holy crap. The Japanese version was so full of emotion. English dub is just pure desperation but also all of them just feels like watching a child have some massive temper tantrum while being punished
i fucking love villains where you just know one single act of kindness or love in their life could've helped them stay on the right path. there's just something about the unfairness of the world corrupting a pure soul at every chance it gets that really pulls me into the story.

Here’s an in-depth analysis of each of the voices and the different emotions they bring out, for those who care:
-The EN voice-
0:07 His expression of anger is very explicit in the first few lines, and he appears to be on the verge of exploding into an impulsive act (like aggravated assault).
-The JP voice-
1:25 The anger conveyed here is also very intense, equal in levels of explicitness compared to EN, but more unhinged in manner.
-The CN voice-
2:41 In the beginning, the expression of anger is much more restrained.
-The KR voice-
3:57 Very similar to the JP voice in terms of the extent to which there is a sense of him losing control.
Bro wrote a whole paragraph and I genuinely enjoyed reading it
you just made my day better with this, thanks
Very well thought out in sight, awesome work!
민승우 성우님 그저 갓… 인겜에서 볼때도 정신 놓고 봤는데 또 봐도 소름돋는다

Damn, the Koran VA really outdid themselves, the emotion in his voice was amazing.
4:47 the voice crack at the end makes it sounds like he’s about to cry. I love his kn va so much.
Wow all of the versions can express his grief sadness and anger at same time. Salute
4개국어 다 절망하는것과 화남을 잘 표현햇는데 민승우 성우님 너무 절망적인 심정을 잘 표현해서 숨이 턱 막혔음
Kudos to Patrick Pedraza, Tetsuya Kakihara, Luyin and Min-Seong Woo for the epic voice performance as Scaramouche. All of his voice actors have nailed the character flawlessly through his fear, anger, hatred and suffering.
the english and korean really captured the emotion well. english represented scara’s self loathing, regret, and pain so well. the korean version showed his despair, panic, and disbelief.
I know right? KR’s voice cracked and it almost brought me to tears
EN and KR version is somewhat depicts his mixed anger, struggle and yearning for the gnosis while CN and JP are more showing scaramouche desperation and anger and somewhat like begging for mercy which tends to sounds more sad. Overall, all the VA did a good job!
All VAs did really good job... they'll almost sounds the same, not like other characters that sound different in each Language
I feel so bad for him, he was like "hey my mom gave me that" or "i worked hard to obtain it so please don't take it"
What’s there to feel bad for? He murdered people including Teppei
I would also be mad if a random kid down the street took away my power ranger figurine.

Korean voice acting will always be in my soul, my favorite
Damn the Korean one sounded so hurt
kr is excellent in breathing, tremor and emotion.
the korean VA.... it's like a kdrama line! the emotions, and the fact that i understand the line cuz of commonly used words in kdrama.
Korean's the best here, I can't even understand what they're saying, but I'm getting chills.
韓国語とても良い
I legit cannot decide who did it better as each VA put the perfect amount of pure pain and desperation in his voice. But with the Korean one? The voice crack at the end was PERFECT. It completely summed up the utter grief and hurt in Scaramouche. That's what's so interesting about Scaramouche - he hates humans, yet he's very human himself. He feels pain and defeat, just like we do. The lore behind him is so interesting and complex. I cannot wait to pull for him frfrrr
edit: YALL I GOT HIM AT 35 PITY IM SO HAPPYHDJSBDJD
he also grew up with humans
his VA's name is Min Seungwoo!! and Min Seungwoo is very happy to know that people enjoyed his acting :')
I hope you get him!!
As for me, I've been saving for Scara, but I got c1 Childe very early when trying to get Layla. Hopefully I can manage to get Scara still-

I'm glad you like it so much!!! Sungwoo Sungwoo's other Scaramusu acting is also the best, so please look for it!!
I honestly really like the KR va since it feels like they were actually feeling the emotions on that moment, anger at trying to get the gnosis back but sadness at the same time

Oh my GOD, the Korean VA is the best, i could feel the pain through his voice, it was truly amazing 😭😭
I don't get why people feel the need to discredit any of them! I adore the En and CN for scara and still really like KR and JP.
The changeover with anger and frustration with CN is amazing and ENs realisation that he's lost really shakes me
I've always loved all of the vas for him and I really don't like this pick and choose mentality like sure we can have our preferences but saying one over the other in "performance" isn't fair because I think it affects people differently depending on a lot of factors.
I like Cn En the most and I don't like JP, since for me it's lack sadness and too much anger, but I comment only that I like Cn En the most
I do bring JP up when someone discredit En first😅 'm offended

IMO I rlly loved the ENG and the KOREAN They did so good!!! but my gosh they all did amazing!! the emotion in their voices just amazing!
3:26 the crack in his voice is so good😭
Japanese is my favorite.
Yeah JP is the best at combining both despair and anger. Kitahara is exceptional as always.

Fr i did
I always use English but the JP is the clear winner here
this scene shattered my heart into a million pieces
Goosebumps liked the VA of Chinese and Korean. Just hearing them made me want to cry and fall into despair along with Scara~~
THEY ALL ARE SO GOOD AND PERFECT! BRAVO TO THE EN, CN, JP AND KR SCARA VA’S
I played all of sumeru in the Korean dub cause its the only one I haven't used yet. Oh boyo the Korean dub is soo good. (All the dubs are good) everyone did a great job

All the VAs for Scaramouche are literally perfection. It's hard in my opinion for VAs to be able to portray a character perfectly but Scaramouche's is portrayed perfectly. Hats off to whoever cast the VAs
Chinese is so underrated, so many emotions behind that voice omfg

i think korean & japanese fit so well in this
4:32 e 4:47 FICOU PERFEITOOO, eu sempre joguei no inglês mas nessa cena, o Coreano ficou MUITO bom
Os outros tbm ficaram muito bons mas o melhor foi o coreano
I never expect anything less than steller for the Korean voice overs, his va did outstanding (in my opinion Korean is always some of the best)
Losing the gnosis for Scaramouche is like losing his heart, given that's the reason he was created in the first place, and every voice actor nailed that feeling perfectly.
in the subtitles they wrote: "I'll never go back!" but in CN he said: "I can't go back!" shows just how desperate he was
the korean and chinese ones are just heart-wrenching omg-
My take is English did a good job portraying his utter fear of the moment, along with his weakened state.
"절대 돌아갈 수 없서!"... 너무 많은 감정
the Korean voice acting, surprisingly, turned out to be the most sincere
BRUH LOL the scene was set up so seriously then at 0:15 flying baby radish appears and changes the entire atmosphere
All of them were amazing but the Korean one always tops it
i fucking love villains where you just know one single act of kindness or love in their life could've helped them stay on the right path. there's just something about the unfairness of the world corrupting a pure soul at every chance it gets that really pulls me into the story.

But Korean... The last scream of begging and fear... Just gave me the vibe of "did i do the right thing?"

I love how so scared he sounds in Korean. The despair is real :/
As good as the KR is I burst out laughing at 'Don't even try' because it's more closer to 'How dare'.
