Every time I see the scene where Nahida takes the Gnosis from him, it really does almost make me wish he would've succeeded. I know what would've been on the line if he had but that wasn't just power to him. That was also the closest thing to a heart. It was something that could fill that void in his chest. He may have been a villain at one point but I just can't hate him. Nor can I hate him for acting like he was superior because of knowing what he's been through. It's no wonder he's like that. He was viewed as weak for having emotions, later rejected because of what he was and got betrayed more than once.
The theory is also that he wasn't even a Harbinger by feats of power, but simply a means to keep an eye on him. Not even his fellow harbingers liked him. If he wasn't betrayed enough, he was played like the puppet he was meant to be. (To be fair though, the harbingers don't even really like eachother.)
Scaramouche's voice is one of the best so far in the game. The way he said "so i said good riddance, i denounced the world and laugh in its face" gives me chills every time
