I'm amazed the flight deck came in weighing almost the same as a normal deck. My flight deck feels so much lighter than a normal deck, but I am pretty sensitive to a missing a gram ;)
I feel it is perhaps incorrect, as my Flight deck is 8.45" and _much_ lighter than my other 7.76" board which is a 7 ply freestyle board. And the flight decks are 5-plies total, not 7. They haven't added extreme layers of carbon IMHO. I would also say these boards _are stiff_ . It is why it pops higher, which it really does with a snappy pop using ankles properly. Concave is medium but probably only a problem to those who ride steep concave boards only.
I have been riding an 8.0" Flight deck for a few weeks now and that one is even lighter. Thing is, with trucks and wheels being the weight that matters most to a skater, I doubt people will care either way. I have Tensor Mag Lite TENs on my Flight decks making them a pretty lightweight setup overall, but it still ollies and spins like any other board. And I have been riding in windy conditions.
Yea man, my 9.13” Andy Anderson flight set up feels way lighter than my 8.75” 7-ply Ripper deck. Same trucks and wheels too. I might just be trying to convince myself that the price I paid is worth it lol, but it feels amazing regardless and I love how they keep their pop so long. Whether they are lighter or not, they are so worth it.
Yeah its like the enjoi or almost impact light decks with carbon fibre inserts.... and the almost über light decks. You can tell instantly it is way lighter and stiffer. Last 3 times as long too.
Hey Ben, I think I speak for a lot of people when I say I very much appreciate both your skating and construction videos. I’m both a carpenter and a skater as well and have seen dozens and dozens of your videos and they are never a waste of time. You explain and help me to understand things In a clear concise way that I can easily wrap my head around. So thank you for that. Maybe you’ve already done a video explaining this and can just send a link, but if not, I wanted to ask you. After riding all these different decks and doing so many reviews, what deck in particular do you find yourself always coming back to? Do you have a favorite? Or maybe a few favorites that you like best for different reasons. May not be an easy question but I’d like to know as I trust your judgement and opinions.
Just a recommendation for skating mellower tails. What gave me the taste for mellower tails was this. I would place my backfoot not on the very end of the tail when popping like I used to. I placed it more in the middle or towards the truck, it gives you more pop! And it allowed me to jump higher with my body while popping. Gave me more control as well. I saw that foot placement from watching some pros. A lot of pros do this.
Great tip! I think it just depends on what feels good for you, bc a lottttt of people say the opposite, move your foot to the edge of the tail. That actually makes sense to me, because ollies are a lever mechanic, the easier you can pop your board vertical, the higher your front foot can establish the fulcrum point. For me it is easier to pop the board vertical with my foot more on the edge of the tail, but the way tails work, I think you can really do it anywhere and make it work. Popping the way you say sounds like it feels really good when you get it

having skated lib tech and an impact support deck I feel this would be worth the money. I'm creating a website and your information has made me think outside the box in terms of technology and specs. Lib tech makes a great design but can cause splinters if you smash the nose or tail up. I've snapped an impact support in one day which was discouraging. This is a technology I'm seriously considering as I don't skate as much as I used to.
Can you make a mini logo deck review? Please i want to know if its worth buying mini logo decks. My fav brand is planB for now i like how they make their decks.
This review is slightly relevant since mino logo comes from the same distribution. But a separate would be good too. Since they're good for the price. Last one I rode was In 2010. It lost its pop within a month, but the shape was really good.
@@pabsrea5998 I already tried the brand and now thats what im using, in my birthday my uncle gifted to me a powell peralta flight deck and because i dont jump stairs it look like brand new and im using it for 7 months. I just do flatground tricks. v:
I literally snapped two element decks in a hour today. One was brand new too. So just ordered one of these to see if it will last me longer as I tend to be a heavy lander
Great review! Very thorough. I'd love to see a review of a hemp skateboard deck if you get a chance. Saw recently that there are some companies making them now. Cheers!
Almost correct on tensile strength. Tensile strength is how strong in tension(being pulled apart) the steel in concrete will resist being pulled apart end to end so if it is attached at the ended the lack of stretch will not allow for sag.
Ben i purchased a flight deck, in your experience have you ever had a situation where the graphic doesn't match up with the orientation of the nose and tail?
A. Amr not sure cause I haven’t skated either but from what I’ve seen impact decks just have reinforced carbon fiber circles around where the trucks are mounted and Flight decks have full length carbon fiber plys plus the little discs around the trucks as well
@@booneprock4952 You're thinking of 'impact support', 'impact plus' has both the carbon fiber disks as well as the ply, while usually being cheaper than flight decks. So what's up with that?
29 years old, picked up skating again a year and half ago after getting burned out, man if that was a good decision! I'm considering getting a flight deck but I am a little hesitant. It seem to me that thought the flight decks don't snap/break easily (which isn't my problem, I'm a very light dude) it seems that they still razor tail and chip away just as easily as a normal 7-ply deck, is that correct? I spend most of my time practicing flip tricks, so I was hoping that a flight deck might allow me to do so longer before having to switch board, but it seems like this type of board is most beneficial for people who frequently snap their boards. Would love to hear your thoughts on this! :)
First like then watch cause a Ben video is for sure a good video. Anyway I just realized I got so used to the flatness of the toy machine that the Real I got seems so steep I can't do stuff...I think I'm a mellow guy hahahaha and if it wasn't for the price I would buy a flight Much love from Italy ❤️ keep killing it Ben
What would you say is better/more durable and has the best pop. Real or Flip decks? I've broken a few Real boards but that's because I'm a bit of a burly boy.
hey ben, how are you? i was wondering if you could do a review on mini logo decks. the ones currently on youtube are either too old or sponsored videos. beginners, like me, could use a honest review of those decks, because they don't want to spend too much money on a deck without knowing if they'll enjoy it (which i doubt, but you never know).
I have an 8.5 mini logo deck, and use mini logo bearings-both are great. The deck has lasted longer and outperformed other more expensive decks I’ve owned. Their trucks get really good reviews, though they are definitely lo trucks-48mm clearance. THey’re basically coming out of the same company as Powell and bones, but are made in China and don’t sponsor so as to keep the price down.
Where are you from Ben? If you don't mind my asking. I get the vibe you are from the lower mainland in British Columbia is that correct? Richmond Vancouver area?
Another great vid. Thanks Ben. Have you skated a "double impact" deck from dwindle distribution? How do you think they compare? They have similar tech in them but at a regular price.
I guess nobody remembers the boneite decks from powell back in the animal chin days. They had 2 plies everyone believed to be tarpaper. They where really tough decks.
I feel like these boards are only worth it if you're skating gaps and taking lots of impact. I can buy 3 Palace decks for the price of one of these boards in the UK. Yeah, the Palace decks might get 'soggier' quicker but I feel a flight board would naturally razor tail way faster than I would be able to thrash 3 normal decks. The technology is really great but too expensive right now for me to seriously consider it.
Dude they last so long! I'm a toy machine guy though. If they get good graphics or if other companies pick the tech up I'd be down to use it. It will save you a ton of money.
I got an Almost Impact deck bc I can't justify freaking $100+ for a Flight deck (and am not wild about any of the graphics) but I really appreciate carbon fiber technology. It's medium/mellow, but it is definitely not soggy at all. Very stiff, which I know you and Joa don't like, but to me it makes it seem really poppy. I really, really like it - but it is 8 plies, and I've been out of skating long enough where I can't tell if it is heavier than normal, and I can't find any accurate specs on what it weighs - gonna take the parts off an weigh it now bc I'm curious!
I always skated an almost deck as well, but Powell Peralta let’s you choose your shape and concave. That was my selling point. Now I have a board that feels absolutely AMAZING under my feet
Which wheels are those exactly? Look like Slime Balls. Wondering about the size and durometer and if you're getting no wheel bite on Thunder Hi, which bushings you're riding. I'm wheel biting 54mm ML C-cuts on Thunder hi 147 on stock bushings (new setup).
Did you get the wheel bite issue sorted? I just got 8.25" Thunder Hollow Light IIs. Had to tighten them down more than the Indys I had on before that. That wasn't a surprise given they are significantly lower trucks. I wasn't sure if I would need a riser. They seem to work alright without. Just need to be tightened down more. I'm using 55mm Mini Logo AWOL wheels. I had them tighten down to where a couple threads were showing. However, it was about 80 degrees the day I set them up. It was in the 30s today and yesterday, and I loosened them up to where the nut is almost to the top. I think Thunder bushings harden up more than Indys do when it gets cold. I vaguely remember Ben complaining about that in another video. I will see what happens when it warms back up again. You could try adding a 1/8" or 1/4" riser. I weigh about 168 lbs if that say anything.
Also, I don't know if all bushings to this, but, I had wheel bite problems with an 8" pair of Mini Logo trucks which are even lower than Thunder. I didn't like them for that reason and stopped using them almost right away. But, after having them sit in my garage for a couple years, I tried them again and didn't have wheel bite problems anymore. I think the bushings hardened after sitting there for awhile.
@@idmhead0160 I got some Bones hardcore whites and it's pretty good. I didn't give the originals a chance. I recently picked up some 1/8" shock pads, but they're laying on my kitchen counter still 😋
@@squig808 I don't like the rubber shock pads. I prefer the hard ones. I bought some Indy shock pads, but, they mashed down when I tightened the trucks down. I recently bought Mini Logo ones. Haven't tried them yet. It seemed like maybe they are harder rubber. Maybe they won't be as bad as the Indy ones. The hard 1/8" Indys are good though. I've used those on some setups I have that have big wheels.
Hey Ben, could you shed some light on the meaning of "soggy"? I just got back into skating after about a 10 year hiatus, and I noticed that my board feels soggy and squishy. I can recall riding a friends Element when I was younger and it felt very hard and light. I feel like I would prefer a lighter harder deck with lighter harder wheels. What should I look for to get the "lighter and harder" feel? Thanks in advance!
Tensile strength and compression of the concrete was so well explained. Thanks. Also where is that park? looks like New Westminster? But they don't have a skate park do they?
I couldn't remember the name but I knew it was out there near Silverdale somewhere. That park has been exactly like that for years. I think I still have pictures of it looking exactly like that from 02-03 time frame.
Sorry about this question, but I'm considering buying a deck as a gift and not being skater I honestly don't know if Powell-Peralta Skateboard Flight Deck (8.45" - Andy Heron Skull) deck is better or same with Powell Peralta Flight McClain Tiger Shape 24 8.25 Skateboard Deck? I understand it's different size, but skater to whome this gift is intended said that he likes anything from 8.25 to 8.5, being a 195cm tall with US11 shoe size. Can anyone tell me which one would be a better choice? He uses skateboard mostly for street and ocassionally park tricks.
clicked so fast! i would like to try a flight deck, but i'm too picky on both graphics and shapes. i like fuller nose and tail and high concave and nose tail. i found BBS to be my fav decks. so i think i will stick with that for now. great review anyhow! Keep em' comin!
I love your videos Ben keep up the great work. Also would like to mention the 3 stair at 9:30 is perfect. As someone who only has a two stair and a 5 stair to skate I would kill to be able to have something in the middle of 2 and 5 so I could gain some confidence for the 5 😂.
I skate the girl g008 shape and i love it, how would you compare it to the powell as far as like its steepness?" also idk how people skate tablet wheels haha. I HAVE to skate the A cuts and like barrel wheels lol. I skate the original clouds from ricta. As in the fully marshmellow white 54mm 92s with tiny black print. I just can't revert on tablets/c-cuts for some reason. at least not when skating on bad crapcrete lol.
My only problem with these type of reinforced decks, is that since the deck is strong, you feel more pain in your legs/feet. Like if the board breaks that energy is dissipated but if it does not all that stress is transferred to your body instead. So basically they make your feet hurt more...

@@pabsrea5998 I already tried the brand and now thats what im using, in my birthday my uncle gifted to me a powell peralta flight deck and because i dont jump stairs it look like brand new and im using it for 7 months.
I just do flatground tricks. v:
DeTixXs keep on !
Hi Ben, is that first location with many quarter pipes around Vancouver? Thanks.
Ty for the good review! Please make a review or a comparison between the flight deck and an almost doubble impact deck. Love from Switzerland
I literally snapped two element decks in a hour today. One was brand new too. So just ordered one of these to see if it will last me longer as I tend to be a heavy lander
Awesome review. You had me rolling with soggy. What do you think about the Andy Anderson deck?
Great review! Very thorough. I'd love to see a review of a hemp skateboard deck if you get a chance. Saw recently that there are some companies making them now. Cheers!
Yes more shapes are needed ... indeed. Much anticipation. Much. Please Powell diversify the shape of the flight!
and the second noseslide nollie heel was fine! keep killing it man
Almost correct on tensile strength.
Powell Peralta flight deck or Almost Impact Uber Light. Which is better?
Awesome review!! I had skeptical thoughts about the Powell flight decks being soggy and I'm glad I got your take on it, though!
Isn't this construction just like an almost impact plus deck? or is there a difference?
Finally I know why they put rebars into concrete :) Thanks so much for the explaination!
Can you please do a madness deck review?
Nice video! You're lucky that you have some good spots and parks. Not much in my city. Have to travel a little bit to get to a good spot.
Ben, where was that place you skated surrounded by trees with wooden ramps and stuff and a flat bar
Poulsbo Washington
First like then watch cause a Ben video is for sure a good video. Anyway I just realized I got so used to the flatness of the toy machine that the Real I got seems so steep I can't do stuff...I think I'm a mellow guy hahahaha and if it wasn't for the price I would buy a flight
Much love from Italy ❤️ keep killing it Ben
Toy machine was the last board to ever grace my feet
You are my official to guy for reviews.
What would you say is better/more durable and has the best pop. Real or Flip decks? I've broken a few Real boards but that's because I'm a bit of a burly boy.
nice quiet town you live in, eh. bloody sweet skateboarding. I am going to search for one of those decks. maybe
have you ever tried a Lib tech skateboard? the E-matrix has a similar construction to the flight deck, they are also a similar price at 75$.
hey ben, how are you? i was wondering if you could do a review on mini logo decks. the ones currently on youtube are either too old or sponsored videos. beginners, like me, could use a honest review of those decks, because they don't want to spend too much money on a deck without knowing if they'll enjoy it (which i doubt, but you never know).
Minilogo would be great for beginners. I would be surprised if they were bad.
Are these unbreakable? I’ve been snapping boards left and right lately I think I just need to lose weight I’m like 200 pounds
Hope you love this board it’s made of resin and fiberglass ,no carbon fiber
Where are you from Ben? If you don't mind my asking. I get the vibe you are from the lower mainland in British Columbia is that correct? Richmond Vancouver area?
Yup
Where do you skate in the winter months usually? Is there anywhere you can recommend? I need somewhere local.
Didn’t Skip Engblom make something similar with Santa Monica Airlines in like 2008?
please review the globe g3 bar 8.25 completes with the tensor mag
Steve caballero said he will never go back to riding normal 7 ply boards
Another great vid. Thanks Ben. Have you skated a "double impact" deck from dwindle distribution? How do you think they compare? They have similar tech in them but at a regular price.
That dude walking by thought ur crazy ass was talking to yourself lol.
holy shit, i didn’t expect to suddenly see my local once u got to the review bit lol. that’s poulsbo skatepark
I guess nobody remembers the boneite decks from powell back in the animal chin days. They had 2 plies everyone believed to be tarpaper. They where really tough decks.
no they were not
@@mikehemens9359 They would turn to mush if you got them wet
One of the best decks ever, along with the Element Fiberlight, Planet Earth Blue Core, and Dwindles Impact decks.
But how many think there are 32 grams in a ounce?
I feel like these boards are only worth it if you're skating gaps and taking lots of impact.
I can buy 3 Palace decks for the price of one of these boards in the UK. Yeah, the Palace decks might get 'soggier' quicker but I feel a flight board would naturally razor tail way faster than I would be able to thrash 3 normal decks. The technology is really great but too expensive right now for me to seriously consider it.
Yeah they need to bring that price down then I'll never buy anything else.
Dude they last so long! I'm a toy machine guy though. If they get good graphics or if other companies pick the tech up I'd be down to use it. It will save you a ton of money.
They last so fucking long. I love these boards!
I can skate 4-6 months on it, while a normal deck last between 2-4weeks so this is the only deck I skate at the moment
Minolta L. Where did you get yours? And there really as good as you say?
Nice thumbnail. What park is that ? 4:20
I’m the only one I know who sands down my tail to treat razortail. In fact, every time I do it, someone asks what I’m doing.
I do that on the road as im using it but It makes the tail wear down quicker
Photorec is an easy to use tool that I believe has a GUI version for windows that can recover deleted data.
I think Ben has said he likes 52mm wheels the best. I wouldn't be surprised if that's what he's skating.
Sounds like you just need a new deck.
Good video👍
Could you do a review on the darkstar armor light decks?
Tensile strength and compression of the concrete was so well explained. Thanks.
Also where is that park? looks like New Westminster? But they don't have a skate park do they?
The park was Poulsbo Washington. Weird little park. That pyramid was super fun and the quarterpipes were nice.
I couldn't remember the name but I knew it was out there near Silverdale somewhere. That park has been exactly like that for years. I think I still have pictures of it looking exactly like that from 02-03 time frame.
Must get US insurance before heading down next time. LOL!
I loved my Powell mini logos with hella concave and black magic grip
Hey, Ben! Which Thunders do you ride? His or Lows?!
Zero skateboards brand review?
Wish could find those thunders.. can barely find any thunders around at all on any canadian site
Can't wait for the Supra Elevate review, though!!
clicked so fast!
i would like to try a flight deck, but i'm too picky on both graphics and shapes. i like fuller nose and tail and high concave and nose tail. i found BBS to be my fav decks. so i think i will stick with that for now. great review anyhow!
Keep em' comin!
@@pigandrunt bareback generator woodshop. So all dlx boards (real, anti hero etc.) And some other brands.
I love your videos Ben keep up the great work. Also would like to mention the 3 stair at 9:30 is perfect. As someone who only has a two stair and a 5 stair to skate I would kill to be able to have something in the middle of 2 and 5 so I could gain some confidence for the 5 😂.
I skate the girl g008 shape and i love it, how would you compare it to the powell as far as like its steepness?"
also idk how people skate tablet wheels haha.
I HAVE to skate the A cuts and like barrel wheels lol.
I skate the original clouds from ricta.
As in the fully marshmellow white 54mm 92s with tiny black print.
I just can't revert on tablets/c-cuts for some reason. at least not when skating on bad crapcrete lol.
might as well throw in that the 92 clouds literally slide on just about anything perfectly for me and i don't think i will ever skate another wheel.
Where was that skatepark located?
My only problem with these type of reinforced decks, is that since the deck is strong, you feel more pain in your legs/feet. Like if the board breaks that energy is dissipated but if it does not all that stress is transferred to your body instead. So basically they make your feet hurt more...
That is a valid point!
Heck, did Powell stop making these? Out of stock everywhere...
What shoes are u skating there? Is there gonna be a review too?
Gonna buy my first skateboard, I wonder if this would be a good skateboard for me tho?
yes, more expensive than other decks but is more reliable
why dont the make the layer where your logo is printet carbon? wouldnt your skateboard last longer this way?
I think it would get shredded and lose strength. It's very thin.
Love your drywall vids.
What shape are you riding? I'm interested in the 249 shape. I've been riding Deluxe shop for the last 15yrs.
