    I wish I could set up a new deck every six weeks. Down here in Brazil decks are over 100 bucks to say the least, besides the grip tape and bolts. I cannot invest that amount of money too often. A deck can last over six months with me. Of course I don't go skate every day, so it's already expected that they last this long. Problem is, when I set up a new board, it takes a few days to fully get used to it. Anyway, setting up a brand new board is always an amazing time.

      I sure did once, It was over 12 years ago. The thing is Brazilian brands have to buy Canadian maple in order to produce boards made out of maple. The final price is (believe it or not) the same as an Alien Workshop (my current deck). You don't see people riding Brazilian boards here too often, most of the skaters would rather skate the bigger worldwide brands, like Baker, Flip, DGK...

    Best tool for outlining grip is just a screwdriver. Especially if it is one that has a hex shaped shank so you can use the edge. And then use it again to perfect the edges after cutting. Oh and I'm surprised more people don't use the grip backing to press down the griptape so you can slide your hands smoothly. I do get a kick out of watching how other people do things though.

    Also, that file is better for doing the grip, to stop the grip from ever pealing back or water getting under it, it's crucial to blend the grip tape into the wood with the file. Here in the UK, with all the crazy temperature changes and water, I found if i didn't rub the grip take into the wood properly it would end up pealing back at some point. Cheers man!

    I spray paint my griptape black first to make it glitterless. even if it has graphic or not. I also use thin rubber riser pads. I noticed that I brake my boards much easier without them because the truck baseplate will make small indentations on the board that can weaken the board, especially nose and tail. It also makes my board softer and less noisy because it separates the metal trucks and wooden board that amplify each other. It also hold the hardware much better because it creates tension between them that micro vibrations won't affect.

    I can attest to the difficulty of gripping 8.75 decks. Grip is only 9" wide, so that's an eighth of and inch on each side. Grip is also usually 33" long and some wider decks are around that length too, so you really have very little play all around when gripping a deck. Now that I think of it I kind of want a new deck or at least wheels. I usually do Formula Fours, but kind of want to change it up; maybe some Bones SPFs(I destroyed some STFs some years back, flatspotted beyond skateability within a week). Also; yes, allen wrench hardware is my preferred hardware; I feel like it stayed tighter better than phillips head does.

      @Hell's favorite Salty Masshole yeah. Usually grip is free with a deck and if that isn't a free option I'd rather have a harder time gripping a deck than paying extra. I just bought two decks online and luckily 10" Jessup was a free option. Definitely a lot nicer and easier that way.

    I use a normal file and it works well. I also prefer the same type of bolts.
    By the way, there are a lot if good stretch exercise for writer. I do them all the time and my wrists have gained a lot of mobility.

    i like to sand down the border of my grip it helps keep it seeled down and helps stop the concave edges of the grip from digging througb your shoes, i also do the very tip of the nose where you hold it cause i got sick of raspberry gripthumb man. i usually carve out the mountholes with the razor too to allow the hardware to countersync in so they go flush with the grip

  • @Y34RZERO
    @Y34RZERO 4 роки тому +1

    I'd imagine it's way easier to grip a small board. I have to be a bit precise with my big boards or just cut it up into grip tape art but I honestly just like to have a nice solid black piece beneath me. I can never keep a skate tool. I always lose them but I don't lose my screwdrivers and socket wrench. I'm more of a colored urethane kind of guy with my wheels. I prefer bright pink or green. I just love the look of it. I'm using a wider and softer wheel since I like to have a bit more grip when I'm skating the bowl at the park near me at 97a.
