As a veteran of this game. I'm happy its getting a lot of attention but at the same time its kinda annoying when you're playing as a commander no squad leaders puts down mark, don't think new players even watched the tutorials before playing.
Yea, I joined the game when it became free. Rank 30 and like to try to play commander. I can almost never get a squad leader to place a marker or the radioman f*cks off and I gotta either chase them or go to the static radio placements.

When I get boneheaded SLs I just go around putting down my own marks, it's a lot more work but better than you copping the blame for your SLs not doing their jobs
Then, if one salty dude doesn't like the mark you chose he will then have you vote kicked.
One interesting attention to detail is that the early war campaign USMC and the ARVN regardless of mode have an A-1 Skyraider attack aircraft drop the napalm instead of an F-4 Phantom like with the other Southern factions.

As a veteran commander, I use a mix of mic and typing. A lot of time people have the sound input turned down or just...aren’t listening. If it’s regarding a strike, First I say it on mic, then I type what I just said, especially with danger close arty. Sometimes if I’m close to the enemy as well, I don’t want them to hear me.
I also sometimes don’t use a radioman. So many times I’ve called recon on a radioman for a dope napalm strike and been shot. Or just about to finish my arty call before THUNK.
Or the radioman keeps running as you are calling in shit and you have to wrangle him constantly. However, when I find A good radioman, I definitely use him. A good radioman is to be treasured.
I usually hang on a radio then between cool downs go out and throw my smokes and make marks. However, there are definitely times to use a radioman as well and it’s highly situational depending on the map.It’s about 40/60 for me.
Bear in mind, this radio stuff is in regards to south. For the north, I think a radioman is crucial because you need to be ambushing and pushing all the time. Northern commanders are much more warrior leaders while the south is more of the tactician.
yes for north vietnamese radioman is usually much more important, you can however ambush without a radio by pushing 'n'. for usa using sl's as radiomen can be very useful, they're just sl's with a better spawn point when they they die
I think its also useful to pay attention to what the enemy commander has and is doing as well as the cooldowns of the abilities, if you know aa is up wait atleast 1 minute before calling in air support. if you know the south side has used all abilities except for spooky or napalm, putting AA up is a good idea especially if you are planning to ambush the point
To any newcommers, who open this guide. PAVN and NLF have Ambush deploymen (Commander spawns all dead teammates on himself, but if he is dead, it just works as rapid), but US army, USMC, Aus Army and ARVN have rapid deployment (commander spawn all dead teammates on their chosen spawn points). Important note: this abilities doesn't waste tickets

I've been playing on and off for the past 6 months. Level 34 currently. This was really helpful. I think this is probably the best game I've ever played in my life. I mean, GTA obvs, but this is just....I love the realism, the diehard fanbase, the maps, the difficulty, just everything. See u in the rice fields!!

tip: when in command screen with the map and orders , press tab (or your score button) and the UI will update and you will be able to see the chat and the rest of the ui
(i really hope they make a better UI for 83 because it has been shit in ALL of their games)

you should make a video on how to use the binoculars effectively, as i personally have no idea what to use them for!
If your a squad leader use them for artillery marks for the commander
I mean, they have the best zoom obviously so are great to spot sneaky guys who are shooting you or to see enemy groups and which way they're flowing. Can tell team mates with support weapons to adjust fire based on the rounds landing near targets.
If you hold command (b i think) while looking it shows a big pillar of light so you can right click to add an artillery marker to that spot or left click to add a squad rally marker. If your squad presses t for tactical overlay it shows the rally point and the range from them to it which is handy as a marker for any grenediers or MGers to flatten a zone or marking where danger spots are or where you want your squad to attack / group at etc.
You can also press z (i think is default) to mark where you think an enemy player is making a red mark for the whole team, for a few secs, if you actually see someone , in the same way a recon plane would spot someone. You can do that without binos but the binos give you range etc to actually spot a dude.
When I was playing as the VC our commander kept running around telling us not to spawn. Turns out he was sneaking behind the point and just spawned us there. Pretty hilarious

Here’s a big tip, retain CONSISTENT communication but do not consistently communicate. That sounds weird but what I mean is that the commander should speak enough to relay necessary information but not enough to be overbearing or annoying.
good tip! ill admit it can get annoying when a commander keeps asking what people want from KFC instead of giving us info

I think being able to change the direction of the bombers already makes it one of the best supports in the game, less risk than the napalm

as a rs2 veteran player i'm loving your videos! i'm getting problems in general with the teams on sao servers 'cause the base there is new players so u ask marks to arty,they dont give,u tell then to update tunnel or stay alive the sl u know they dont so yeah,its kinda mess now,but i hope they're getting improving since the new players from egs become veterans,and by the way,keep doing this great videos! see ya on the rice fields xD

Having a mic should be requirement for being a commander.
I've been playing this game since it came out and I never knew there was a difference between the artillery between the Souths. But how about the Marines, are their's the same as the the US Army? And ah I now understand the keypad marks.
I have no idea primarily because the servers I play on are on a very few select maps so I couldn't tell you :(
Marines have the same artillery as the Army afaik, fun fact the airburst rounds have a significantly higher chance of killing helicopter pilots than normal artilleryz
My friends and I always spam “round eye go home” when we want to play as the south Vietnamese in the campaign
A bit late to the party, but calling directions left or right, refers to your team facing the enemy. Simple as that, no reason for confusion or to check the map which sometimes gets you killed ;)

Canberra bombers are much more precise than the spooky, I prefer it in a game where I'm getting decent marks and need to clean out a point or flank

Bit late to the party, but I disagree on the notion of the Canberra bombers being worse than the Spooky given the fact that the Spooky is way easier to counter using AA, and NLF/PAVN commanders typically save their AA purely for Spooky midwar and onwards.
The mic in Rising storm 2 doesn't work anymore. It seems like a bug after the Oct, 27th update. Every time you press the caps lock button the needle doesn't move.

@@Tantwo Yeah, a lot of players have been reporting this issue. I even posted this on Reddit to see if there was anyone else and there was a person who commented they had the same thing

Hmm this might be 2 late but people who plays this game must have a habbit to check maps just a split sec i have people just run into my arty zone and i'm like dude there is an audio que and marker where the arty will drop.

press alt and drag mouse in a direction, it's a bit weird as it doesn't always work. dunno if it depends on server or map but sometimes i can angle the napalm, sometimes i can't.

No, but they said they're trying to figure out a way. The issue is is that the winter war mod is treated as a separate game on steam and not a mod.
Are the servers for epic games and steam the same?

sorry should have clarified that in the video, the napalm trajectory is random however, the canberra bombers trajectory can be adjusted

I love being a radioman. Thats how i levelled up quickly. I have made quite some decent kills in that class while protecting the commander. I hate people who take that class but are nowhere near the commander. Once in a match. The radioman slot was full. Imagine my suprise. Not only that. Those mofo's were running around in the map. We were playing as U.s. When i voiced my concern in squad radio i guess? I dunno who told me to shut the fuck up. I wish i knew, thought it was the commander. So i shot him. And left the server. Right before i was deciding whether to shoot. Dude was looking at me. Wondering what i was doing i guess. We were literally looking at each other for a few good seconds. Now i feel bad for the dude...
Isn't it bad to speak in VC as a commander because there's a glitch allowing the enemy commander to hear you??

yeah I went through that phase, people not listening and being blamed, thankfully what I see now is that if people don't read the chat or listen, they get bombed and that's their problem
My repeated experience replicated perfectly. I just play grunt now.

Why does it matter where i am as a commander when i use rapid deployment as USA?
yeah I more or less meant Viet in that instance, but like when u are playing as US it isn't that effective IMO if there all the SL are dead and everyone is going to be spawned far back from the place. If you have SL near the point and a lot of people are waiting to res pawn thats a good opportunity to use rapid deployment
@@Tantwo just make sure to tell all everyone to get ready to spawn on squad leads. I do this as commander plus its annoying if you haven't clicked on your SL who's in the fight or flanking and you get forced respawned on a starting spawn point.
It saves tickets. Wait until there are lots of people waiting to deploy for maximum effectiveness.
@@Tantwo force deploy doesn't use tickets so it can be very good when you're low on tickets, in a close match getting ~10 free tickets in the end can really help. keep a consistent eye on force deploying when many are dead the entire match and you can get dozens if not 100+ free tickets for your team.

AA shoots down heli's above 75m not 50m. :)
so to clarify, I get the missle warning at 50m and I feel as if I stay there for 2 long the missles are released, or do the missles fire automatically at 75m?
@@Tantwo At 75m and higher you get warning sound of being locked by AA and as soon as you get the warning drop your altitude under 75m. If AA does lock you before you droped down the 75m it will launch a rocket so no matter if you managed get your heli below that critical altitude you will get shot unless you somehow dodge it(super rare). Small advice on the matter,on maps with high diversity of terrain you can use hills and mountains that are close to you to decrease your altitude fast. Sometimes its faster and safer to fly closer to some mountain than to drop like a rock trying to avoid AA.

Also you should have mentioned that the aus bombers are special because you can control the line they fly in unlike napalm. Also on southern forces the force respawn does spawn on squad leads, not on you. You didn't clarify that in three video.
