This is exactly why metal and orchestral music are very alike. They share one very important element: INTENSITY. Metal and orchestral music are meant to be grand, exciting, and intense!

Same with progressive rock. Classical music, metal, and prog rock (Not normal rock, but prog) all have complex rhythms and are multilayered, and all full of passion.
Tool isn't really metal, more like prog heavy rock.
Intensity comes in many forms all to be enjoyed

First time I've seen this. Was watching and didn't realize I had tears in my eyes. This is easily one of the best Orchestral Covers of any TOOL Song I've ever heard. Would love to see them do Lateralus.
I'm planning on doing an orchestral mockup of the Salival version of PUSHIT using some of the best virtual instrument libraries known to man... Got a few other projects to finish before I can fully commit to it, but I tried toying around with some ideas the other day and I believe its going to be freaking epic. If I can get it anywhere close to this video's level of awesomeness, I think I'll be able to die fairly fulfilled.

I just watched this again and it just occurred to me that I could listen to that guy on the keys play this song all day long. Had a Heart Attack last Sunday and should be dead now. My daughter almost lost her dad and hearing him play just woke me up again to the emotions

Tool is my favorite band of all time and I've always had a soft spot for orchestral music covers so this is the best thing in the world.

Professional orchestral players almost never mess up, even when playing something theyve never heard off a sheet.
In a number of places, the percussion sounds out of time and not in a good or intentional way
especially the percussionist

It gives a somewhat different vibe to the original, that is not a bad thing in my view at all, it is the conception of a new opus. I love the result, especially the pianist's performance. It's a special pleasure to see a good pianist's hands' graceful movements over the keyboard.
Can you imagine how insane the time notation looks like on the sheet music... According to wikipedia, "In one analysis of the song, the song alters meter 47 times"

Being a fan of Tool since before Undertow came out, I'm always and continually astounded by the music. Hearing the same music performed in such a completely different arrangement just reaffirms why Tool is the greatest band ever. This was absolutely amazing! I had literal chills.

Another thing I love about this is that this is such a respectful cover. There's dignity to it in a way I didn't even know was lacking in other performances.

This is astounding and all, don't get me wrong, but I'd love to hear an entire cover/interpretation of this by just the pianist, maybe with some light percussion. He did such a rad job with the middle section, turning it into a whole new piece without sacrificing the slightest bit of the original feel, it's amazing.

The complexity of Tool's arrangements translates into something extraordinary in this format. It certainly could handle the big halls and introduced into a crowd with no understanding of what they are listening to.

It's largely so that the sound of their instruments doesn't block out the other players, as they are very loud. the big blocks in front of them actually are for absorbing sound.

There's one thing I have noticed with people making tool covers, any covers be it orchestra, koto, cello, the guy who plays entire song on one acoustic guitar - all of them are so well executed. I mean I haven't seen one crap cover of a Tool song which tells a lot to me about people who listen to and play Tool. Great stuff, keep going 👌

Tool translates very well to different genres. A lot of very good piano covers can be found on youtube. This on is no exception.

Thoroughly enjoyed the arrangement as a tool fan and former symphonic orchestra member. However, where was the percussion? This had such a strong timpani and chimes part that really made this piece great, why wasn't it played live?

For real I was disappointed by the lack of percussion in this piece. Danny Carey does an awesome job. If there was an actual drum set part for this I think it would sound so much better
