I truly believe Afro hair makes a BOLD statement, if you walk into any room with a huge AFRO, all attention just gravitates to you, it also acts as shade when it sort of covers your eyes, it’s fabulous and always will be. It is the only hair style that can’t be truly imitated outside of the people who have it naturally❤

I just feel so gorgeous in what God naturally gave me. People stop and tell me how pretty my hair is and the only folks that turn up their nose are other black people that hate themselves and believe the lies about our natural hair but every other race has complimented mine and it feels different because its not a weave , braids, wig, or it straightened its in its natural state and IT FEELS SO GOOD to be complimented in what I was created to look like naturally and yes hair can do that lol.

For 4c girls wearing natural hair out leads to breakage I would know so I wear natural looking crochet wigs
@@OCDandme123 that will only happen when your hair shrinks and you wear it out while sleeping which leads to matting and then breakage. If you stretch your hair at night ( putting it in a protective style or using the band method) it won’t!
@@OCDandme123 My sister has 4c hair almost down to her butt and her goto style is braid outs. She always says moisture is key but she does a great job taking care of her hair.
Our hair doesn’t grow slower, it’s just harder to retain length.
Our hair does grow slower. On average, Asian hair grows at 0.5 inch/month; white hair at 0.4/month; black hair at 0.3/month. That's on average though. There's always exceptions. It's well documented that different groups generally have differing hair growth rates.

@@chrissiec2123 No. Those studies are not conclusive and there is no definitive documentation on how those studies were conducted. Also, those with coily hair are almost never 100% of any race, genetics vary way too much for these studies to be conclusive. I'm African American and my hair does NOT grow slowly.
@@FTYC2022 I acknowledge that our perspectives don't align, but the studies are quantitative and thorough. As for you being African American and your hair not growing slowly, that's why in my initial comment I said, "That's on average though. There's always exceptions." On *_average_* , black hair does grow slowest. Also, black hair is objectively the most unique in the world and that's beautiful.
@@chrissiec2123 describe how the studies were conducted that makes them quantitative. Do you care to drop references? If not, I suggest you not push this narrative. MOST people with coily hair do NOT have a slow hair growth rate, but we absolutely do have difficulty with length retention. This mostly due to cultural hairstyling practices. And yes, our hair is beautiful.

Ive always been rocking my natural hair but in the last few years i have made a bigger effort to pick it bigger, more undefined, i wanna be as far away from the straight hair standard as possible.
My hair acts as a protection. It repels undesireables and attracts a higher class of people. I especially love that straight hair people will never get an ego boost from me thinking i want their hair. I see them stare at me and my fro. Good, look but dont touch.

The issue is comparing BW to Eurocentric beauty standards. There’s no need for that, just create your own, and stand on it. Confidence is very important when it comes to attraction. How you get there is up to you. (IMO, look at yourself through your creator God (Yeshua), you were made in his image so who are these men or women to tell you otherwise) And never look at your beauty through the male gaze, esp BM.

Omg girl YEEESSSS! This is so true! A couple of days ago, I was on my way home and I had my natural hair in an Afro but later tied it up because it was so windy that day. On the bus home, the bus was really full so I was forced to stand. With that being said, this really nice man (dark skin, Jamaican guy) invited me to sit next to him. The whole bus ride home he was telling me how much he loved my natural hair and called me so beautiful. He said things like “seeing a woman like you with long thick natural hair in a world where everyone doesn’t wear their real hair is a breathe of fresh air” and such. He was a really sweet nice guy and I appreciate him so much! He reminded me of my ex situstionship guy who also praised my natural hair a lot haha. Natural hair is beautiful!

I actually never in my life hated my hair, I just wasn’t taught how to do my own hair. So I had to learn and that was tedious in the beginning but now I’m thriving. Hard work always pays off! Now I get the you got good hair compliments from other black women, which isn’t a compliment to me because I know they see my hair and question my genetics and they also discredit my hard work!
Just learn your hair and it will thrive! It will take some years because you can’t go from all your life not knowing anything to two months and knowing it all!! Be realistic and then you will Love what you see later!

I've noticed that when I wear my natural hair, people are much sweeter towards me. Plus, I attract a lot of good-looking men, which is so bizarre because when I wear braids I don't pull anyone.
I was thinking about it the other day but our hair is very exotic if you think about it.

I think part of the reason why people are in btw love/hate of their natural hair is NOT knowing how to take care/ maintain their hair.

When the undercover cop was posing as a lady of the night, she had plaites in her hair and when she was polished up and posing as a cop, she had a silky smooth blowout. So Film and Television is doing this on purpose to discredit African Caribbean styles.
That's why with have to dress up to the 9s when out with our natural hair.
We don't have to dress to the 9s with natural hair. I have 4♾️xyz^10 hair and I dress very casually. As long as I have a clean body, clean clothes that don't break the bank, and even have a very plain basic appearance it doesn't matter. Love your texture stop consuming media believing that you must fit a standard.
I think the problem is that the beauty standards for black women are even too high..I have 4a fine strands and can't have these amazing large afros and my hair can't handle braids. So a lot of what makes black women's hair "cool" "beautiful" or "unique" are just qualities don't have. So as you say, do hairstyles that compliment your hair but those are often the styles people dislike, regardless of the race

@@TeaWitcher okay but thats the beauty of cosmetics. most ppl dont have naturally clear skin but they still have a skincare routine. most ppl dont have naturally long lashes but they still wear mascara and fake lashes. its 2024, this "but naturally its not me" stuff sounds like just another way to beat yourself up especially when you dont have to naturally have thick hair to still have thick hair. wear the clips ins and rock that fro like its yours.
You shouldn't dwell too much on what you think you're lacking. As you said youserlf, making the best of what you have and styling your hair in a way that compliments your face is the most important. Everyone deals with insecurities when it comes to their physique regardless of race or hair type. For example plenty of white or asian women don't have the very thick, dense and super long bonestraight hair that is promoted on TV over other hair types, but that doesn't stop the majority from having a hair care routine and going to their stylist for advice, cuts, treatments, trims etc
When it comes to type 4 hair specifically I think there are plenty of styles that are accessible to any hair density thickness or length. Twists are a lot gentler on your strands and I don't remember ever seeing a successful twistout that looked bad. Finger coils can look very good too. All in all there are options regardless of what you start with, so you should experiment as much as possible
@@glamglam8347 but by the time you do that, why not just wear the wigs and weaves? I tried that for a while but curly clip ins that are kinky textured are MUCH harder to maintain than looser textures, usually more expensive, and generally require me to wear more leave out which means the clip ins will tangle. I just keep my hair twisted under a glueless wig 95 percent of the time for ease of maintenance. If I want my natural hair to look "right" then it takes a lot more effort

I'm so mad at myself for not realizing how much representation matters. I knew it was true to some extent, but I didn't realize how pervasive it is to always have the "Becky with the good hair" being the lady that gets it all, while the one with 4C is the sidechick or the bestie. I couldn't see how to wear my hair out until I quit instagram and started using Pinterest and following 4C classy ladies living their best Main Character lives. The other day, I opened my feed of Pinterest and realize how much they made me feel like anything is possible. We have our own beauty standards and we've always been the blueprint. Thank you for reminding how important it is to curate our feeds.

As a daughter to Haitian born parents - it’s sad! Most of my family is natural (obviously due to the black population being the central). It was not until I started visiting haiti often as a little girl that I felt something about straight hair is just not normal for us lol) I’m so grateful
The wigs and weaves that come from other races , is not a good look. If you can just imagine the people that had that hair on their head, they actually lived in that hair. They got sick in that hair. They made bodily functions in that hair and even had sexual encounters in that hair. I can’t imagine putting that hair or spirits on my head.

So many videos keep talking about how we are oppressed but I have found that when I wear my natural hair, I become one of the most beautiful women in the room. And thank you for pointing out that what we consume also affects us. I'm only 35 seconds in, and i just wanted to tell everyone that I've been wearing my natural hair for years now (it's been blonde for years😅) but it's an afro, in it's natural state and i love it!. I get compliments on it everywhere i go, literally. I messed it up a bit through trial and error when coloring it but babbbyyyy it's grown healthier and become way stronger!

Ladies. I want you all to bear in mind your hair texture will change as you age and your hair turns gray and white. I say this as my mother, from Ghana, recently passed away. My mom always let me play in her hair. she had course 4c hair. it was like a brillo pad, thick and strong. as i got older i continued to do her hair. as she got near the end of life her hair was all white, and soft like cotton candy. very fluffy and straight. As a cosmetologist i know once melanin leaves hair the structure changes. even now my 4a tight coily fine hair is changing as it turns gray. i love my curls but so know as it grays its getting straight. love your hair NOW, TODAY. love what you have because it will change and you will reminisce back to days of old. enjoy your hair. i stopped wearing wigs and hair extensions. nothing on this earth can match the beauty of what is naturally yours. always replicated but never duplicated. ❤

Sis, i couldn't have put it better myself. I completely agree with everything you've said so eloquently. 'As a man thinks, so he will be,' says the good Book. And how we see and think about ourselves is a direct function of what we choose to focus our attention on. I've always been convinced about one thing when it comes to this weird world of ours: there are only two categories of humans; those who despite the negativity, hate and evil in the world, deliberately choose to see the positive in everything. And then there are those who choose to see only the negative and bad in circumstances, things and people.
In the end, it's a choice. And you ultimately become what you choose to see.
This has actually been my experience! Ever since I started wearing my natural hair out more I get many compliments from all people. I feel the most beautiful when I embrace my coils. I cant get enough of it, I just love my God-given tresses so much!

I still have a few insecurities I’m working through with my 4C hair. Also balancing a 9-5 and a hair care routine. BUT I’ve never been a wig kinda girl. My mom wore locs and never allowed me to relax my hair at a young age which I’m grateful for. I eventually got locs myself but recently reversed them. I’m loving my natural hair more and more and get compliments for my natural looks at work and in public. I no longer speak negatively about my hair. The people who have hair opposite than mine complain about their hair and not being able to have the versatility I have with kinky cool hair. So before you talk down about your hair, think that others feel the way about their hair too so be grateful.

If you hate something about your hair then learn how to meet in the middle. I don't like shrinkage but I love my texture so i either stretch my hair or i wear afro extensions to give my hair length. If you hate your texture than why not try kinky or yaki straight?
This is a good tip for those who hate their hair.
I love our 4c hair texture. How to style it while it’s in a short length is what I think most people find less appealing. I touched on that topic in this video and in some of my other hair videos.

I love this title. if black women took time to be patient with their hair which is what I did in HS now when my hair is at its worst it’s still its best because it’s well cared for. Wigs/ getting braids is expensive and a lot to learn just like natural hair. It’s much more worth it bc it’s God given my hair means more to me knowing I’m created wonderfully and I thought I should change it.

The title inspired me to like this video before watching it. I'll come back and comment after. I've been wearing my nair natural since by big chop in 1995 and I'm not looking back. It's one of the best decisions I ever made.

Honestly, I think understanding your hair limitations is for every women...All my friends who have thin hair like me have very similar difficulties, no mater their ethnicity or hair texture. So , after yeeears of frustrations, accepting my hair limitations and focusing on what makes my hair beautiful and unique is the way to go...it has really been a game changer for me 😊

I have worn my 4c hair naturally for the last 24 years . I started with cutting all processed hair off. I left one inche and it is now down my back. I would NEVER go back to straightening my hair.

As for natural hair, i have finally embraced my natural hair and i realised how hidden my facial features were behind all these ridiculous wigs lol. Imagine i have never worn my natural hair out, only during my childhood....and it really dawned on me as a grown adult that I've been hiding my natural hair. I had to acknowledge this hate i had for it but now i love it. I found a wonderful hairdresser that knows how to treat and style my hair. So now It's growing, and it is the healthiest it has been in 31 years of my life. I honestly do not care what anyone thinks about my hair, it makes me feel confident and i feel beautiful.

My ex boyfriend loved my natural hair, especially when it was a fro. I started to get jealous because it’s like he loved that hair more than me. It’s weird to think I was nervous about wearing my hair out. Because I’d get so many compliments on it from men of all races.
These days I’m too lazy to style my hair and keep it in braids, my hair grows like weeds when I keep it in natural twists.

I have relaxed hair but during the time I wear my natural hair, I encourage all my friends to go natural and they didn’t want to because of their curl pattern. Fast forward to now they are all natural and they loved it. Sometimes they say that they want to relax their hair I encourage them to wear their natural hair as I genuinely feel that they are doing a great job with their natural hair.

Honestly, I have been wearing my natural hair out, personally, I love long hair
I'm trying to grow it out. But I do get mostly positive reviews from White men mostly (that's who I attract all the time). Black men avoid dark-skinned natural hair women like the plague (in my experience)
I attract a lot of Hispanic men also. Even more so since I went and got locs. I think men of other cultures Are used to light skin and straight hair and prefer something unique. Whereas black men have the same features, they don't appreciate them.

I love my hair but she doesn't like being out...dries out fast so I keep it wrapped in a scarf and I remove the scarf once indoors...I keep my hair in twists; its the only style I can do BTW. My hair is a mixture of all the 4's I think, not sure as I have not yet come across anyone with my hair type on YT nor in my family....and its short (touches my shoulders at the back and chin length n the front).... I don't need compliments to love my hair either. Its mine and I love it. That is all that matters.

I've tried over the years having mine out, wash n gos I do like but it just tangles anf dries out too easily. Working on more bantu knot type of styles where the hair is away.
Your hair may be more dry then mine so these suggestions might not be helpful or have not worked for you, but I always have a spray bottle with some diluted conditioner (to work as a leave-in) that I can use mornings or evenings. I usually do wash n goes so I just spray my hair in sections that I probably made before bed and shake my hair. This gives my hair time to absorb the moisture as I go about my day and the coat is not too heavy that it ends up sealing out moisture or causes to much buildup and dries it more in the end. Keeping my hair stretched with bands or scrunchies helps keep it detangled too. It works for me cause it’s easier to do daily in comparison to other methods

There is always a way to love your hair, you just have to learn to work with it. I struggled to love my hair until I got locs. After a few years locs resolved my issues with length, styling, and finances. My hair is now the longest it’s ever been in my life

I’ve been natural for many years. Proud to ssy that I’ve never wore braids, tracks, wigs or anything outside my natural hair. The compliments vary from other naturals, mature men, white men and sparks the conversation of hair from those outside our race. I won’t call it pretty privilege because I’m experiencing discrimination especially because of my choice of wearing my natural hair. Regardless, I wear my hair my way and for me and not for others. That’s the most important point. Wear your natural hair because you want to but not because it’s expected by other naturals or because it looks like the style that’s in. Be your true self and if straight hair does it for you than do you Boo! Braids, weaves, wigs and anything else you do to your hair is your choice. It’s your hair so be confident and enjoy it!

I just wanted to correct you on one thing, our hair does not grow slower - the frequent breakage gives that illusion, as well as the fact that it is harder to observe our hair growing unless you get a silk press. The research that founds the belief that our hair grows slower did not take this into account. It isn't just about the breakage but about the diet. Asain food overall is heavy in biotin and collagen aiding hair growth, which is why studies show better results for them for example. We were the first humans on earth, if our hair grows at a slower rate - it wouldn't be possible for other races to grow hair faster than us because they come from us. Then also considering the fact that a lot of black women do not know or don't wish to care for their natural hair; or even the relaxers a lot of us had as kids. Relaxers containing such strong chemicals will affect hair growth abilities longterm. If you are a black women educated on breakage, diet and so on, yes your hair grows at the same rate. The real challenge is breakage. The correct statement would be that we do not retain length like other hair types/races. We are not more defective in any way to any race. The studies intentionally leave all this out, no surprise. Black women everywhere walking around with gravity defying hair would be too much for a society that collectively sees us as the demographic at the bottom of human hierarchy. The correlation to our slow hair growth and our history is no coincidence. There's such unique trauma, we have had our hair banned by law, our hair is seen as unprofessional, straight hair is deemed as more desirable overall by society and so on.
