Just a quick tip for those not wanting to do so many steps, you don’t need to use both a rinse out and deep conditioner during the same wash. Hair strands can only absorb so much product so you’ll most likely be wasting product(money.)
Very true. A lot of times I will only use one or the other, unless I’m doing a treatment that suggests following up with a conditioner. I plan to do a follow up to really discuss my wash day routine. There were so many points I was trying to hit in this video.
Question. Many deep conditioners do not allow me to properly detangle my hair. The slip isn’t as great as a conditioner. So at what point do you detangle your hair when you’re just using a deep conditioner? Or you don’t have this issue?
@@jessicaroseandreajones I start detangling before I wash with some detangler or conditioner and I apply product to the most tangled areas. Then apply shampoo and gently start to finger detangle some parts gently to help work through it throughout the process gently and slowly. I listened to most of your video and I care for my hair very differently than you and I am getting amazing results. This just shows that haircare is very personal and unique to each person. I use absolutely NO Direct Heat on my hair ever. I do a pre-poo hot oil treatment, moisturizing shampoo, moisturizing/strengthening mask, and deep conditioning every two weeks. I only use an all natural clarifying shampoo 4 times a year. However, there is never any product buildup in my hair, because the weeks I don't wash my hair I just rinse it with warm water. Rinsing will remove any product buildup without washing. Also, I never use tangle tesers. I only use my fingers and once a week I gently use a wide tooth comb to detangle my hair. I am happy you have discovered what works well for you.👍🏽
@uberhaute_naturalz84 Not at all. I don't use any heavy products on my hair. I stopped using petroleum products in my hair 30 years ago. I use a natural butter on my edges only.
I wash every two weeks also. I am going to try that rinsing on the off week just to keep hair hydrated. Your routine is very similar to mine. I love deep conditioning. It's my favorite part of wash day.
@cathyfreeman8608 Yes, I started rinsing my hair on the off weeks about a year ago. For two reasons, to rinse out any product buildup and to keep my hair hydrated. It was an idea I had came up with on my own. 👍🏽🤗

Thanks for sharing your hair journey. I must start a channel to share my journey. I restarted my healthy haircare journey in April 2023, and my hair is already past waist length. I am truly shocked at how quickly my hair is growing and how much I am retaining length. When I started this journey 19 months ago, I had cut my hair to shoulder length and within 16 months my hair was down to waist length. I am going to get my hair strengthened (No Heat) in April 2025 for my 2 year Hair Anniversary. By then I think my hair will be touching the top of my butt.
Thats some amazing growth! There are so many factors that play a role in hair growth outside of the way we care for it externally. Would love to see/hear about your journey.
You give great, accurate and conducive advice and you’re so beautiful ❤ would love to see content like this make a comeback because this made me realize how much I miss when Black Women were uploading stuff like this on UA-cam on the daily. I am so happy that I found your channel. Your hair is so long and thick and healthy, and you're a low porosity girl too too. I'm too hyped to watch this video😂❤ Could you please give me the name of the Dew cream you were referring to in your video Please?
Hey girl, hey!!! lol. Yes, the cream from The Doux is called C.R.E.AM. It’s available on their website and at Sally Beauty. If you want the link to Sally, let me know!
Your hair so beautiful thanks for sharing all of the tips. I will definitely put them into use. Are you saying that you are also blow drying your hair weekly as you wash it weekly? Also, can you tell me more about how you diffuse your hair? I’m unfamiliar with using the diffuser and I would like to know more about it and see how it’s done and when it should be done. Thanks again and I would love to see the videos keep coming.
Hi! Thank you so much for watching 🫶🏾. I don’t blow dry every week. It really just depends on the style I’m doing. I have a video I need to edit on my diffusing process so as soon as that goes live, I’ll come back and share the link with you. Would you like me to do a video discussing how often I blow dry and when I do it?
I feel like most naturals are low porosity, however, I have high porosity so the kinds of tips that they offer really don’t work for me. I’ve been stuck at bra strap length for a while now and I need help getting past😭
It can definitely be frustrating trying to find tips that work for your hair type. I feel like these tips are pretty universal. With high porosity hair, since your hair absorbs and loses water fast, focus should be more on hydration and sealing it in. Let me see if I can find some creators with high porosity hair. If you don’t hear back from me, remind me!
@@ItsTayia I know I’m not the original commenter but I would greatly appreciate if you could give some creators to follow who also have high porosity hair! Thank you.
Sorry but curl type matters. 4B/C hair do not do well with brushes and combs. For this hair type, finger detangling is best, and this is what has enabled my hair to thrive.
Hi there! I didn’t say it didn’t matter. I said it doesn’t matter as much as the other factors I mentioned when trying to figure out what products to use. And also, when done properly, brushes and combs can definitely be used for these curl types. It depends on the brush and/or comb and the technique utilized when using them.
I usually finger detangle, but maybe 3 times a year I finger detangle then use a brush, because I don't like how finger detangling doesn't get all the tangled out (for me).
Not true. I have 4b/c hair and brushes definitely work for me. Finger detangling when I did it years ago broke my shit OFF 😭 doesn’t get rid of tangles when they’re small which allows them to build up and cause breakage and knots in my hair… nuh uh. It really is about hair ‘type’. My mum’s actual curl pattern is looser than mine, but her hair is denser, coarser, and lower porosity. I can still get my tangle teezer through her hair without pain or breakage if i’m careful, but her hair is a lot nicer about finger detangling than mine. She thrives with it. My hair would end up webby and stubborn.
Curl type does not matter that much in the grand scheme of things. It’s 2 things: the porosity of your hair (how it responds with water) and the treatment of your hair (whether you’re gentle or rough with your hair). Trying to put your hair type in a category of 4a / 4b / 4c is like trying to put your fingerprint in a category. You can’t. Our hair types are all unique to us; almost as unique as our fingerprints. I hope this helps
I have 4c and Curl types matter, yes. But we need to brush our hair to remove shed hair. If not you’ll suffer from tangles, matting, and single strand knots. Brushing also helps my hair take to my products better. You need the right brush for your hair. I have the generic version of the unbrush and it doesn’t rip or tear my strands at all.
Hi just found your channel & I love everything you’re saying!!! I lost all my hair to chemotherapy in 2019 & I’m trying to grow my hair to waist length . I let some trim my ends & they cut a short bob from hair that was past my shoulders. Please can you give me some product recommendations?
First, I'm so happy to hear that you are doing well now! I'm happy to share what products have worked for me on my journey. I’m already working on it so I’ll come back and share the link once it goes live.
@@nickiawalker645 if I want my mini twists to last longer I’ll blow dry first. I don’t just blow dry and leave it, that’s asking for trouble for me lol. I’m going to do a video on my favorite protective styles! There’s about 3 or 4 that I rotate through.
@ OK cause in the video you didn’t mention if you did that I just assumed that you blow dry it and leave it out like how you have it in the video. I see a lot of girls are here seem to just blow dry and leave it. Looking forward to that video. For now, I’m just doing mini twists every month and plan to do it until I get to my goal. But I love seeing what other people are doing, especially people who are at my goal length. 🫶🏾
Thank you for the video and sharing your successful journey, with your success being reflected in your beautiful afro textured hair. Question, what information or knowledge got you to waist length this time? To clarify, you stated that , 'I didn't know what I know now.' What was it that you learned that skyrocketed your length to where it is today that you didn't know before?
Thank you for your comment and for watching! Really just taking the time to learn my hair and what it needs/when it needs it. Not worrying about my curl pattern and focusing more on the other factors I mentioned. Things the like that. Before I also had no idea what porosity, density and all that other stuff meant or how it affects growth. Taking time to learn those things is what really helped me on my journey. And being intentional about what I eat and how what you consume plays a role in overall health of hair, skin, nails, etc. Let me know if this helps or if you have any other questions 🫶🏾
@@ItsTayia Thank you for taking the time to respond so quickly and with such detail. I appreciate it. You stated and mentioned these things in your video, too. Your success is predicated on increasing and deepening your knowledge about your hair, products and processes, over time. Is that correct? Thank you again for your time and the informative video.
@MsChicoro yes, that is correct! Once I gained this knowledge I was better able to understand my hair and what I needed to do to retain length. And of course, I’m happy to answer questions and engage with my community 😊
Here’s the thing. Many of you all with this wastelength hair are only like 5 feet tall. Now I’m not hating on you because my mother and my grandmother are both under 5’3” but, as a 5’7” female, I did manage to grow my hair, 3 inches below my bra strap before I had to cut it because of some damage from a hairdresser.
@@ItsTayia The length of the space between shoulders and head and head and waist. I know women with very short torsels. I have a long torsel and long legs so my hair getting wasted length takes longer. If you are torsel is short of course your hair can be at waist length faster. We can have the same hair inches and still mine may not be at waste length.
@@writervictoriaYes, of course: If you have short torso, you will have a waistlenght faster than if you have long torso. What’s your point? You seem to complain about your genetic but at the same time you know it’s not impossible to have waistlenght. What’s wrong that you will take more time than a short torso? At the end of the day, the sort and long torso can have this lenght. You should stop to compare your torso to others…

I feel like I saw the most significant growth within the last 2-3 years. I was stuck for so long around bra strap length, but it was around that time that I really became committed to my journey.
Hello!! I am currently on this journey, my hair is mid-length however my hair is quite thin, how do I grow my hair thicker? I am a student, so I don't have time to do my hair frequently.
There are a number of factors that can contribute to thin or thinning hair. It can be due to genetics, underlying health causes, over-manipulation, and more. To best figure out how to address it, I suggest that you determine the cause.
Green Beauty UA-cam channel has a ton of good info for high porosity. Qhemet Biologics Amla & Olive heavy cream is the best product for very dry type 4 hair! Good luck.
Looks like someone commented with some suggestions! Let me do a bit of research and see if I can find some folks on UA-cam who have shared their high porosity hair growth journey and I'll get back to you. If you don't get an updated comment from me by the end of the week, please remind me!
I have high porosity hair. I'm trying to get there but I got a long way.. I've retained all my length the last 5 months. What has been helping me is washing my hair every week. Making sure my hair gets the hydration, moisture, & protein it needs.
I look forward to doing one or 2 thick FAT braids by end of 2025. I haven't got the patience for mini twists or mini anything. Sorry. I have my wigs always at the ready to cover my mix of fat twists, braids and African threading. Not even lying.
I feel you. Installing them can be time consuming but they last so long! Nonetheless, I'm happy you've found a style that works for you as you continue on your natural hair journey.

Hi Tatyana! I completely understand. My hair isn’t quite at my lower back yet. Thank you for your comment though and I hope that some of the tips I shared are helpful for you on your hair journey.

@ItsTayia I am starting my channel soon. I'll send you the link when it launches. 👍🏽🤗
Yes share. I’m realizing RETENTION is where we want to rest. It’s not growth… we will grow. Its retention we need to master
Send me a link
@juliejohnify I am excited to share my journey. Will be launching my channel soon.👍🏽🤗
Postpartum got me too sis!! I’ve been seeing to keep taking prenatal vitamins after delivery to help. I’m going to try it on my next pregnancy!
Yes, it's so important to keep taking them!
You give great, accurate and conducive advice and you’re so beautiful ❤ would love to see content like this make a comeback because this made me realize how much I miss when Black Women were uploading stuff like this on UA-cam on the daily. Please keep posting stuff like this. We have the same texture and length I feel so seen thank you so so so much for this!! ❤
This comment brought tears to my eyes. Seriously, thank you so much for saying this. You are the reason I do what I do. Your comment has inspired me to continue sharing my journey and include more educational style videos. I'm so happy that this video resonated with you and made you feel seen. Okay, going back into my corner to to shed more tears of gratitude.
@ Did not mean to make you cryyy😭I’m sorry. I do highly recommend you keep posting content like this tho. I’m a new subscriber for sure and would definitely love to tune in if this brings back a sense of norm from the nhc heyday. Don’t cry; your content is refreshing and inspiring. It’s precisely the kind of nourishing content we need to return to as Black Women, imo. Keep going. Be an example🫶🏽 You took my breath away.
Yessss! Her videos are such a breath of fresh air ❤️🙌🏽 I noticed she also responds to so many comments & uplifts each girl/woman in need of tips or general inspo. She’s really a gem!
Please do a video of your favorite hair products.
I got you! Any specific category you want recommendations for? Or some of everything?
Excellent upload. You're glowing too.
Thank you!! 🫶🏾
yes, please make a product recommendation video!🤍so beautiful btw!✨
Thank you ☺️. I got you on the product recommendations. I’m currently out of town but will record it when I get back home.
Period Clark!!!
Reign Clark Atlanta, thou reignest, reignest! lol. Love my alma mater.
Yes please make a video with your fav hair products.
I got you! I have a lot of content backed up that I need to get out but I promise I’ll make it!
I think some confuse their porosity with product build up. A lot of heavy oils and butters can also prevent your hair from absorbing moisture.
Such a helpful video! I really need to give myself some mini twists 😩
I’m so happy it was helpful! Let me know if you have any questions. I love mini twists and will actually be doing them tomorrow 🙌🏾
You’re hair is beautiful 😍
Im on my journey now😊
Thank you! Best of luck to you on your journey 🫶🏾. Let me know if there’s any questions you have.
Thanks for the advice 🙏🏽🎉 And Happy New Year
You are so welcome. Happy New Year to you as well!
Gorgeous Hair!!! Great job😊
Thank you so much!
Such great tips! Love the revair!
The RevAir is bae! lol. I lowkey regret not using it whenever I use one of my other dryers.
Dear Tânia, how long have you been using revair blowdryer?
your hair is absolutely beautiful!🤩🤩😍
Super helpful thank you!
I am so happy that I found your channel. Your hair is so long and thick and healthy, and you're a low porosity girl too too. I'm too hyped to watch this video😂❤
Could you please give me the name of the Dew cream you were referring to in your video Please?
Hey girl, hey!!! lol. Yes, the cream from The Doux is called C.R.E.AM. It’s available on their website and at Sally Beauty. If you want the link to Sally, let me know!
@ItsTayia thank you so much, I found it 🧡
Your hair so beautiful thanks for sharing all of the tips.
@ yes please
@@ItsTayia so you stretch out your hair biweekly use a heat protectant to do so and then you apply products to do mini twists?
Hey Shawnta, here's the video showing how I diffuse my hair: ua-cam.com/video/B0bf29F9VFc/v-deo.html. Let me know if you have any questions!
Thank you.
Can you drop some product recommendations for dry hair? 🫶🏾
I got you! Do you want both styling and wash day products?
@ yes please!
This was great! Thank you ❤
Thank you for watching!
Your hair is beautiful
Thank you 😊
Sorry but curl type matters.
Wow you are so pretty.❤
thank you!
I’m surprised you didn’t mention doing heat treatments!
@@leah38521 heat treatments? Like adding heat when deep conditioning?
Wash n go caused breakage for me 😢
I can’t wait more than 1 week without wash bc my scalp goes on fire
Mini twists messed up my edges
Hi just found your channel & I love everything you’re saying!!! I lost all my hair to chemotherapy in 2019 & I’m trying to grow my hair to waist length . I let some trim my ends & they cut a short bob from hair that was past my shoulders. Please can you give me some product recommendations?
First, I'm so happy to hear that you are doing well now! I'm happy to share what products have worked for me on my journey. I’m already working on it so I’ll come back and share the link once it goes live.
She got that Sza thing going on
Great video!
You use a protein treatment and a deep conditioner in the same wash day ? Thanks for Sharing
Yep, that’s my favorite way to get my hair moisturized and strengthened, especially if I’m using a protein treatment that’s not very moisturizing.
When your hair was heat damaged, did you cut it all off and start over?
3:39 wow who was your colorist???! It’s beautiful!! 😊
Her name is Rachel Redd and she’s based in Atlanta. She’s amazing!!
Gurl dont cut after all this work
I'm interested about what products you used on your hair please.
Beautiful hair keep the growing your hair long❤
Thank you! I keep going back and forth but since I'm so close to lower back/tailbone, I might try to get it there ... and then cut it lol.
You are adorable! Much success to you. ☮️
Thank you Laura!
So it sounds like overall you just stretch your hair and blow dry it as you protective style? Do you mostly do mini twist or you just leave it out?
"UA-cam University" 😂♥
Let’s see those products ❤❤
I got you!
I love your nail color. Do you know the brand and nail color?
Thank you! I do my own nails so this really means a lot to me 🥹. Here’s the link to the polish. It’s a gel polish: links.itstayia.com/nailpolish
Yes I.need product recommended please
Here’s the thing. Many of you all with this wastelength hair are only like 5 feet tall. Now I’m not hating on you because my mother and my grandmother are both under 5’3” but, as a 5’7” female, I did manage to grow my hair, 3 inches below my bra strap before I had to cut it because of some damage from a hairdresser.
Im not exactly sure how to respond to this 🙃
@@ItsTayia The length of the space between shoulders and head and head and waist.
I have low porosity hair the as i am brand is amazing for low porosity hair...
As i am curl clarity classic shampoo
As i am leave in dry and itchy conditioner great for those who get product bulid up
As i am coconut co wash
As i am hydration elation❤❤❤❤

Great video 🎉
Thank you for watching!
How long (if you can remember) was it for you to see results ? I know it won’t happen over night; I’ve been in the stagnant stage for a while now and I’m changing a lot of things so I’m curious
I feel like I saw the most significant growth within the last 2-3 years. I was stuck for so long around bra strap length, but it was around that time that I really became committed to my journey.
What do you set your Revair to when you are blowing out your hair?
Hey Alex! I have a video showing how I use it. Here's the link: ua-cam.com/video/idU9XNzeR-E/v-deo.html. Let me know if you have any other questions!
My hair is thick but my follicles are thin and it retains water takes a while to dry is my hair low porosity ?
Thank you 🙏🏾
You’re welcome! Thank you for watching 😊
Your advice is very good, but it’s definitely for low porosity hair type and you need mention that’s the hair you have
I do.
Anyone get success with this with HIGH porosity hair?
I have high porosity hair and protective styling has been my best friend. No tight styles though.

@ItsTayia I am sure they do, but my hair knot so badly. I may try it on a small section this week while studying and see how I get on.
Thanks for the encouragement 🙏

Hi Tatyana! I completely understand. My hair isn’t quite at my lower back yet. According to the hair charts that I looked at before determining my hair length, I’m about an inch and a half away from reaching that point. Thank you for your comment though and I hope that some of the tips I shared are helpful for you on your hair journey.

"It AIN'T GONNA be it." PhD?
Yep, I said what I said. If you’re here to police how I speak, you can keep it moving.
She’s not here to deliver a dissertation, she’s here to talk about her hair journey. A big part of communication is being able to appeal to a wide audience, I wouldn’t expect her to sound scholarly for a video of this caliber. How about we congratulate her for obtaining her PhD.
You dont cook meat at home cause of husband? You lost me there. Becareful of the people pleasing in a marriage, i am married so i know.
No, I don’t cook meat at home often because it’s no longer a major part of OUR diet. It has nothing to do with people pleasing 😒
Why are you trying to prove to people that you have waist length hair? You don’t have to do that, in fact, the only people doing this are black women, stop please, if you have long hair then good.
you sound salty af💀 women of other races show the length of their hair in their haircare videos all the time...

Why are you so triggered? I’m confused 🤣
Indian women from India do that all the time
