I don’t know too much about the lore of Jak but have played the games. I thought Mar(original Jak) had fought endlessly in the war against the metal heads and devised a plan to get his past self to end it once and for all. Lead them to the discovery of the portal and started their journey to destroy the dark ship from the ending to Jak 1 to 3.
Same, as to make sure we’re both thinking the same thing. Original Jak, no going into the future, is mar that furthered technology mined for eco and so when he was told of the coming darkness (dark ship) in x years, so him and the house of mar readed the world to prepare against metal heads but are losing (gap between 1 and 2) (solving the whole jak is mar, house of mar, tombs and whole technological advancements using lurkers as workers to build all these places). But issue being that how did original young jak get to the past to become mar. Well my answer is that Samos Damos and (old lady forgot her name onin?) figure out that through original mar lineage is all super precursory and to save the egg and young jak (young mar) by sending them to the pass with a protector (Samos). Leading to the jak we know in the first game causing the events in the second game and saving the world in the third
There's so much unexplored stuff in world of Jak and Daxter. I mean, the Metal Heads are actually an alien race that rules over most of the known universe, after winning a great war against the Precursors (which caused the destruction of their society and near extinction). We know that the Dark Makers were corrupted by dark eco, but what about the Metal Heads? They need dark eco to survive and are essentially cyborgs. What makes this all the more interesting, is that the Precursors stated, that all eco contains their "essence"; does that mean they made the metal heads? It would have been interesting to see them continue this story...
Even though he was referring to his human form, if the explorer was an ottsel himself, then he probably wouldn't have even brought up the rude joke, which still eliminates the idea that he's an ottsel precursor in disguise
I see the resemblance in Jak's uncle actually. He and Jak both have yellow and green hair. Plus he could actually be the uncle of the actual real Jak ancestor instead of Jak's direct ancestor, so more of a great great great... Uncle. Maybe he uses his time travel to survive.
first, your mother's brothers are also uncles, not just dads brothers :/ either way, I agree with the common assumption that "uncle" is just a really common term of endearment for an older person who isn't necessarily related to you. In the first game I did assume he had a familial connection to Jak, which is helped by their similar colour schemes, but from the second game onwards I just assumed he'd partially helped raise or teach Jak since he's an explorer (I can't see Samos being the one to give Jak his flair for adventure given the way he tells them not to go to Misty Island). I think it was probably lightly retconned after the first game, since IMO it doesn't even really need explanation. I think the devs trust us to make some logical conclusions now and then without having to outright explain, especially since he's such a minor character anyway. I do like the potential theories though that he had something to do with the precursors, and maybe this was just dropped in favour of other story lines or just something left in to potentially explore that just didn't get picked up or was maybe never intended to, since some mysteries in a game are fun. Also, one thing I think is maybe a small correction - when his uncle calls Daxter "you know, the little annoying miserably ugly one", he does it in a way that shows he doesn't know Daxter is in the room. He is talking about pre-ottsel Daxter, since he doesn't know that Daxter has been changed and is the rodent in his house. So regardless of whether he knew what a precursor looked like, the comment wouldn't be about them anyway (instead it would be whether he recognises ottsel-Daxter as being a precursor, which he doesn't). I would also explain that away however by saying the Precursors didn't readily reveal themselves to be ottsels, so he might've never seen their real form.
I never looked into any theories about Jak's uncle. I thought he is just a character in TPL to show some of Jak's family during the game and then became a plot hole once Jak 2 and 3 happened, just like Keira lol
10:49 now hold on, he was describing human daxter here, he didn't realize that daxter had been transformed. Granted, he probably would have reacted to an ottzel being on jaks shoulder...
Hmmm well the rift gate/rider that Samos and Jak used was located at Gol and Mayas citadel, which was pretty far from Sandover village. What if when Jak and Samos went back to the past, the ended up at the end area of the first game, and the Explorer was the one who guided and protected them back to Sandover, spurring Samos to have him in such a critical role for Jaks development
The real question is how can Kiera be Samos biological daughter if she is only 1 year younger than Jak? Biggest mistery in the Jak and Daxter series, that or a huge plot hole caused by Jak 1 and 2 lack of planned connection.
The only reasonable in-universe explanation is that Keira's adopted. That's my chosen headcanon, and I'm rolling with it. She doesn't even look anything like Samos.
Also something else I thought was really ridiculous in jak II, even though it’s my favourite game of the series, the amount of precursor orbs you need to get to unlock the cutscenes for all 3 acts is downright ridiculous I think. They cost hardly anything in jak 3 and they’re very easy to find too in the haven city walls too. As well unlocking as all the character models. What do you think overall vivi?
After comparing the physical traits of the two, I don't personally believe they are related and are brothers by blood. Unless one of them got more genes from one of the mother and the other got more from the father. Which is common to happen. Then again, white hair and blue eyes are just few steps off from blonde hair and green eyes. So it's still in the realm of possibility and I just go with the flow at this point.
Wait, what if they are biologically connected, but not in a close way, I mean like his great great uncle. What if at the time when Samos traveled to the past found that the explorer had something that was evidently from the Mar house? He could even be his great great great grandparent. Then it could be that, in order to hide the fact that jak was from the past, Samos told the explorer that he was Jak's uncle.
I think the explorer was just used to cover up the fact jak was from the future, jak was pretty young when they went into the past so they probably used the explorer as a family member if jak ever started questioning where is family was or where he came from
I realise but if u realise that Samos treats jak as a son and Keira is his daughter Keira’s mother could have a brother, that brother being the ‘uncle’ and therefore jaks uncle
You know, Jak & Daxter might have a bunch of elements that we might not understand like the "Jak's uncle" theory and "Jak is Mar" theory. I wish we can Reboot Jak and Daxter by focusing on the precursor culture arc and we still have the characters from Jak 2 and 3 be in the culture as well. Sly Cooper is good for now, but we need improvements on character development and backstories. I would have Insomniac Games and Bluepoint Games developing the Sly Cooper Reboot Game with the Spider-Man PS4 Combat and Open-World Formula and remake Sly Cooper 1, 2, and 3 in the animation render of sly 4 along with Ghostbot Inc. When we get a Jak and Daxter Reboot Game while we are only in the precursor culture arc, we should use the God of War 2018 PS4 Game Formula.
so the beard on the uncle looks like the side pieces on mar statues. also I think the uncle was someone who stopped in the village and agreed to look over jak and daxter. because Keira and her dad lived in the hut. so jak and daxter needed somewhere to live. So they just said hey this is your uncle you'll live with him so you don't find out about the time travel stuff
But also Vivi you know something really funny about the tmnt movie that came out in 2007 right? The one who voiced Donatello was the one who voiced ratchet in the first ratchet and clank game, and the one who voiced Raphael was voiced by the other guy who voiced ratchet from going commando onwards. Do you remember that at all? It’s so weird I think! Hearing both of their voices in the same money. Like two different ratchets interacting with each other at one! It was crazy! Lol
Thank you soo much for making a video about Jaks uncle aka The Explorer!!! Very interesting hearing a bunch of different theories on him. I think any of them could be possible. I think we should all bombard Naughty Dog HQ and demand Jak 4 😂
Unfortunately going after Naughty Dog won't help since they no longer have the IP leading to the garbage-fire last game that was released for the series being all about planes
Oh hey Vivi I gotta ask you too, with the original jak and Daxter ps2 physical copy, did you get that map of the overall world of the game in general? Where it shows you where all the level locations are and hidden secrets too? That was honestly so cool I thought. I kind of wish I still had that to be honest, but then I traded it in for the ps3 HD trilogy collection, which I have downloaded on my ps4. Oh boy right? 😉
Can you do... just who is the Sculptor guy and his Muse I wondering if that Muse cat is the rare and last animal to exsist? in Jak and Daxter the precursor legacy. And JAK 2 kid Jak has a Dog only appear the second game and not anymore.
We never met Jak's Mother. It's possible the Uncle is Jak's maternal uncle (Jak's mother's brother). I wouldn't rule out the Explorer being a time traveler.
It's probably really simple, like The Explorer is just really good Friends with Samos so he naturally becomes "Uncle" (Insert Name Here) to Jak... Like I'm "Uncle" to my good friends son & daughter but I'm not related to him 🤷♂️
Jak looks nothing like his father too, so i’m assuming he takes after his mother. The explorer does have that blond hair that could come from jak’s mother’s side of the family. It kinda sucks she was never mentioned
I will note this, when Jak's Uncle insults daxter and calls him small and miserably ugly, he's actuallu refering to Daxter as of he was not in the room because he doesn't recognize him in that form. When he calls him small annoying and miserably ugly, he is definitely takking about his human form.
Personally Ive always just thought of him as Jak's real great great great great great great great great grandfather or uncle, but tgat Samos just arrived in the village eventually with Jak and just told the Explorer that Jak was his relative who's parents passed away or something. Jak's uncle then taking him in and giving Jak his love for exploring. And Im gonna assume him disappearing isnt something bigger than "he's only gone for a couple days/months and the only reason he "disappears" is cause the metalheads destroy the world shortly after he leaves anyways. I have doubts he ever knew anything more. Samos re alistically just kinda reveres Jak's uncle as a great explorer but realistiy provably ony brings it up yo Jak because for Jak it's his only relative and it matters to him.
If we were to think of a theory... I think he's just someone related to the excuse of Green sages appearance and Jaks adoption. Otherwise Jak doesn't know where he comes from, doesn't know it's literally out of nowhere. They also needed a person to look after Jak when Samos was busy and they also need someone to inspire Jak to become the person he is in the future. Like, it's if they put Jak in a family tree to seem as if he is the same as all the other kids, since he has blonde hair and green eyes. It wouldn't be a stretch to think he found Jak and Samos on his adventures and brought them back to Sandover with him unknowing of their travels from the future. I think that specific precursor projection was made simply so it can go back in time to put itself in the precursor egg, in order to relay a message to Jak. I think his mental health is just old age. I think his Staff is a relic, but I don't think it influences him as much as how young the world of Jak and Daxter was new to explore back then. I'm sure he wanted the precursor orbs so that he could go on another adventure, so he went off to adventure again. Simply gone while his home was overrun by Metal Heads. He could even be one of the people who survived and helped in the beginning of the first colony that fought the Metal Heads when Mar appeared. But otherwise, I think he's some normal dude, and by the time of Jak 2 he's simply dead.
Sorry for the inconvenience vtnvivi, I wanted to ask you a question about Sly, is it still possible that Sony has convinced itself to do Sly 5 and will you entrust it to another manufacturer?
I think alot of the plot holes were mainly due to the fact they had basically 5 year total to make the entire series, and they writers just forgot plot points. Cuase wtf is that thing that comes out of the precurson stone? Samus would have had to hide the time cart keira built and rift gate behind the 100 powercell door himself. So many plot holes in this game series.
as to make sure we’re both thinking the same thing. Original Jak, no going into the future, is the mar that furthered technology mined for eco and so when he was told of the coming darkness (dark maker ship) in x years, so him and the house of mar (friends and family, young onin, Samos (from first game) and all those people) readed the world to prepare against the metal heads but aren’t prepared enough (war between 1 and 2, built haven mar died, son Damos whose son is mar, overthrown by praxis creating the Jak 2 world) (solving the whole jak is mar, house of mar, tombs and whole technological advancements using lurkers as workers to build all these places). But issue being that how did original young jak get to the past to become mar. Well my answer is that Samos, Damos and onin figure out that the mar lineage is all super precursory and special they find the portal and to save the egg and young jak (young mar) they send them to the pass with a protector (Young Samos whom they find in jak 2)(this is because Samos in the start of 2 answers himself with so this is how it happened. How what? How old Samos got to the future) Leading to the jak we know in the first game causing the events in the second game and saving the world in the third, creating all these time travel things. And after the metal head leader in the first timeline found out about the portal killed everyone and everything, so when the “last rift gate has been opened” he can come through and keep it out of mar’s hands, and in so doing dies trying to go through one more time to fix his mistakes causing his odd decapitation in the boss fight. My name is Phantom#1732 on discord if there is any questions ask me there
That’s what I thought had always been the story I had no idea that it was so heavily debated. I’m sorry but youtube has a bad commenting system on phone so I did link my discord to answer other questions people may have. FYI I only played the games 1-3 are the games I consider canon and all things that happen during
I think after Jak 1 your supposed to just forget about jaks uncle and I think naughty dog did this on purpose because obviously he's never seen in any of the other games, basically they were trying to make it as if he never even existed
Maybe jaks uncle is jak himself, and maybe the warrior is mar? what if the precursor stone/egg originates from Tess and Daxter and he kept it safe for them, would explain the gem collections, a cover to disguise his true goals. it would explain the orbs and travel too, knowing whats soon to happen old fart jak would leave to protect the stone/egg.
@@VtnVivi lots of ideas. I've been thinking maybe its more of a chrysalis than an egg. however From what it seems its basically just a special type of eco crystal, maybe its just a holding cell for the energy stage of its life cycle. Or, maybe it comes out small and feeds off of eco like metal head eggs and then hatches with some kind of trigger or signal?
Or this "uncle" is actually just the man put in charge of raising Jak and has no actual relation to him. Samos probably didn't want his daughter, the soon-to-be only bachelorette in the village to look at the soon-to-be only bachelor in the village as a sibling, so he had "uncle" raise him instead. They decided he'd call him "uncle" because "father" would not have been appropriate, given Damas' status in Haven and Spargus.
You know vivi it was really annoying how you couldn’t get anymore skull gems after you beat the final boss in jak II. It’s basically whatever ones you already have. And it’s really pointless trying to get another upgrade too because there’s no more enemies left to fight after that. Do you agree?
I've just always assumed that Samos asked this guy to pretend to be Jak's uncle to help keep the ruse up. Maybe the Uncle is the one who actually raised Jak, and he just casually encouraged him to hang out with Samos.

They could write a game around this guy explaining how he is related to Jak and how he ended up in Sandover. It has potential to be quite epic.

Let's look at this "The Uncle" could have just been a place holder for a friend or someone to look up to.
I have been wondering about Jak's uncle. Thanks for doing this video.
No problem!
I didn’t know The explorer is Jak’s uncle
Until this video
There's so much unexplored stuff in world of Jak and Daxter. I mean, the Metal Heads are actually an alien race that rules over most of the known universe, after winning a great war against the Precursors (which caused the destruction of their society and near extinction). We know that the Dark Makers were corrupted by dark eco, but what about the Metal Heads? They need dark eco to survive and are essentially cyborgs.
What makes this all the more interesting, is that the Precursors stated, that all eco contains their "essence"; does that mean they made the metal heads? It would have been interesting to see them continue this story...
I think the Uncle is refering to daxter before he changed.
Even though he was referring to his human form, if the explorer was an ottsel himself, then
he probably wouldn't have even brought up the rude joke, which still eliminates the idea that he's an ottsel precursor in disguise
I see the resemblance in Jak's uncle actually. He and Jak both have yellow and green hair. Plus he could actually be the uncle of the actual real Jak ancestor instead of Jak's direct ancestor, so more of a great great great... Uncle. Maybe he uses his time travel to survive.
I see :D
This is good vtnvivi i always wanted to know more about jak,s uncle in process
I'm glad you liked it :D
first, your mother's brothers are also uncles, not just dads brothers :/ either way, I agree with the common assumption that "uncle" is just a really common term of endearment for an older person who isn't necessarily related to you.
I always thought samus found a random traveler coming to town and asked him to adopt jak so he could spend more time talking to the rocks and plants
Talk to rocks and plants with no context :P
I never looked into any theories about Jak's uncle. I thought he is just a character in TPL to show some of Jak's family during the game and then became a plot hole once Jak 2 and 3 happened, just like Keira lol
Vivi: 300 years is plenty amount of time for someone's family lineage
Yeah, cuz there isn't a game series with an even longer family lineage.
@@AnimaVox_ Jak doesn't look like Dammas at all either xD
@@AlexxxMYLSince2013 True, he probably takes after his mother. Although they both have blue eyes.
@@AnimaVox_ Dammas's eyes are purple xD
@@AlexxxMYLSince2013 I've always seen them as blue. 🤷
It sure was a grind!!!!!
I think he's from the future mostly because of the metal head gem looking thing in his cane
I see :)
Point subtracted for not including the "ONE OF NATURE'S MYSTERIES!!" clip from Ratchet & Clank 3. JK JK, nice video still.
AhHHHH I should've!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ONE OF NATURE'S MYSTERIES!!!! XD
Thank you so much for doing these videos!
With pleasure!
I think the explorer was just used to cover up the fact jak was from the future, jak was pretty young when they went into the past so they probably used the explorer as a family member if jak ever started questioning where is family was or where he came from
Oh!!!!!
Damus is 500 years old
Meme comment aside its fascinating that the lore has so many unpolished ends but so much intrigue that people keep theorizing.
I realise but if u realise that Samos treats jak as a son and Keira is his daughter Keira’s mother could have a brother, that brother being the ‘uncle’ and therefore jaks uncle
Or even, daxter is treated as jaks brother and maybe Daxters father or mother could have a brother and therefore the uncle
Actually, IG was asked about working on Sly by a fan, they said no. It's Sony who makes the call.
Many cultures call non family members Uncle / Aunty out of respect, so I always thought it was that
Yeah!
so the beard on the uncle looks like the side pieces on mar statues. also I think the uncle was someone who stopped in the village and agreed to look over jak and daxter. because Keira and her dad lived in the hut. so jak and daxter needed somewhere to live.
Lol
Also, Kevin Munroe directed that movie! He wrote the R&C movie after original script got scrapped.
VTNVIVI ikr? Isn’t that the craziest coincidence. It also has similar animation too doesn’t it?
Thank you soo much for making a video about Jaks uncle aka The Explorer!!! Very interesting hearing a bunch of different theories on him. I think any of them could be possible. I think we should all bombard Naughty Dog HQ and demand Jak 4 😂
Yay glad you like it :p
Unfortunately going after Naughty Dog won't help since they no longer have the IP leading to the garbage-fire last game that was released for the series being all about planes
Such a shame. 😞
Don't forget the Uncle's note was also written on the map for the PS2 copy
No :(
I believe when they went back in time Samos give Jak to a couple on Sandover village but they died and Jaks uncle adoptive uncle took him in
Can you do... just who is the Sculptor guy and his Muse I wondering if that Muse cat is the rare and last animal to exsist? in Jak and Daxter the precursor legacy. And JAK 2 kid Jak has a Dog only appear the second game and not anymore.
I always wondered what happened to that dog! Probably died from old age.
@@VtnVivi Or was killed by Metalheads or those Dark creature from JAK 3?
@@davidosclay852 They probably forgot about him just like they forgot about Keira.
We never met Jak's Mother. It's possible the Uncle is Jak's maternal uncle (Jak's mother's brother). I wouldn't rule out the Explorer being a time traveler.
Even as a kid I kinda felt like he was just his close friend, not Uncle
It's probably really simple, like The Explorer is just really good Friends with Samos so he naturally becomes "Uncle" (Insert Name Here) to Jak... Like I'm "Uncle" to my good friends son & daughter but I'm not related to him 🤷♂️
Perhaps :)
What if it's Dexter's uncle and therefore jaks uncle by friendship
Jak looks nothing like his father too, so i’m assuming he takes after his mother. The explorer does have that blond hair that could come from jak’s mother’s side of the family. It kinda sucks she was never mentioned
Vtnvvi do you think the giant gem Marty and Willard are digging out is an Eco gem?
Hmm.. Never thought about that :O
The explorer is the same idea as the plumber from ratchet and clank
I think jak would sleep there, and that guy was like a father figure but he just said to call him uncle
I just assumed he calls himself everyone uncle.. like that village guy everyone just refers to as uncle
The mission is called "Give 90 orbs to *your* uncle", not "to Uncle".
Are you implying the uncle escaped as to protect his bloodline?
God! I thought I was the only person in the world upset by this. Finally someone else addresses it
If we were to think of a theory...
Interesting analysis!
@@VtnVivi thanks, it’s just my take of what you’ve shown and then looking through the same sources.
What if when they made the precursor legacy they didn't think it all through and didn't have the whole time travel thing in mind.
About the 10:30 mark. Both theories could be true and this actually just ties more into the first one
I thought the gems that the explorer collected was same the Gordie and Welber were mining in Volcanic Crater.
I don't know about that. It just might be a huge gem. I do wonder how long it took them to mine that gem.
Sorry for the inconvenience vtnvivi, I wanted to ask you a question about Sly, is it still possible that Sony has convinced itself to do Sly 5 and will you entrust it to another manufacturer?
Sir Galahad is sly 5 close then?
Who knows..... By manufacturer, do you mean Sony selling the IP to someone else? I highly doubt.
@@VtnVivi No, by producer I mean another publishing house in place of Sanzaru as inmsoniac for example
i miss sly and jak i hope blue point games make it

This just makes me wanna play the game
Ratchet in Sora’s KH2 fit go hard
Uncle is Mar, fight me
no
I think alot of the plot holes were mainly due to the fact they had basically 5 year total to make the entire series, and they writers just forgot plot points. Cuase wtf is that thing that comes out of the precurson stone? Samus would have had to hide the time cart keira built and rift gate behind the 100 powercell door himself. So many plot holes in this game series.
This is why we either need a sequel or a reboot h, idc by who
as to make sure we’re both thinking the same thing.
I wonder how that stone egg gets produced though.
But did Young Samos even know that Damos was Jak's father? Hmm....
I agree odds are he was just the man given the job to raise Jak since Samos couldn’t do it alone.
You know vivi it was really annoying how you couldn’t get anymore skull gems after you beat the final boss in jak II. It’s basically whatever ones you already have. And it’s really pointless trying to get another upgrade too because there’s no more enemies left to fight after that. Do you agree?
Don't skull gems become infinite after beating Kor?
VTNVIVI i have no idea to be honest.
@@VtnVivi no, they become so after starting Hero Mode, it's a great way to get every dark Jak power early in the game
Jak isn’t the same Mar. There was still a Mar from before even the first game. Jak’s birth name is just an honor to the original Mar
Could very likely be so!
